Now formatted for Honeycomb and/or tablets. It looks good but I think notifications are still messed up
Andy
Notifications or not, the new Words app looks fantastic.
It does look good! Lol how hard is it to get the notifications right, though?

No kidding. It is almost like they work the exact opposite of how they should. I always get a notification of my turn right after I play a word
I agree it does look good and depending on how often one uses chat, maybe even better than the iPad version.
Andy
I guess words with friends seems to not just like me in both tablet and phone world. I've always had weird experiences with it that keep me going back to Wordfeud even though it doesn't even support landscape.
Started a game yesterday after it took almost a day to find another player. S/He played a word then I did shortly after. Went back into game to check if the person has played, turns out it was my turn even though it showed that I just went with points and all. Checked back a few hours later and said it was my turn, but with the word and points gone. Tried to play a word but I couldn't since there was no button to play that word. Uninstalled.
Looks great!
Sigh. People ***** and moan when they took it off the market. Now they put a HC optimized version online.
Words with Friends (Update issue)
I see an update is available in the app itself. Though when I go to "My Apps" in my market it does not show any updates for Words with Friends. I have a Droid Incredible 2 by the way. I am a bit curious if there is something wrong with "My Apps" in the market. I haven't seen any updates for my apps in the last few weeks except for one app called, Battery Indicator. Is there a possible issue with my My Market and apps. I can't seem to even figure out how to do the update for Words W/ Friends (as of today 7/6/12). Would really appreciate any help! Thankyou!
The Honeycomb market is probably the buggiest thing on this tab, for me anyway. Clear your data and cache, and force stop the app through your app manager. See if that helps any.
Hi all.
First off a great site here. I am new to android (well not strictly true I did have the Desire when it very first came out and I hated it sold it after a week) Any way I am now converted to Android from Iphone. So I am a complete and utter noob
I have got the the S2 and what a phone, never miss a phone call or antenna problems on this puppy.
So my problem is when I get a text msg it only reads out the number of the person and does not read the actual txt. When I get phone calls it tells me who is ringing. This is a problem for me as I want this for when I am driving. Please help.
I have not rooted my phone yet as I said I am a complete noob. Does not look as easy as jailbreak.
Thank you very much. Look forward to your response and no doubt I'll get told off for reposting but I have looked now for 3 days
This phone can do this? I would like to know how to set this up.. I would love for the phone to tell me who is calling...please tell me how to do this...I am new to the Droid as well...came from BB...

Double press/tap HOME key to bring ON Voice Talk.
Turn ON Driving Mode.
Hit the MENU button --> Settings -->Scroll down --> Voice Talk Settings --> "TICK" Show body of message.
I suppose that should solve your problem
(It sometimes takes a while to read out the message depending on your connection..so plz be a lil patient Cheers)
Not really the same thing. There should be a way in android to have it announce who is calling or just texted you without leaving in driving mode constantly. Symbian used to have this, but I don't believe Android does.

I just use Tasker for this, though some would balk at spending on an app worth 5 dollars for a phone worth a hundred times that =)
Whenever I use the voice function on the keyboard, my Note capitalizes every Y. What's that all about?
It picking up the way you speak. Mine was doing 't' and 'h'.

Are you sure? My Skyrocket didn't do this. And today, it's all the T's and not the Y's. I haven't changed my inflection, either.

Pretty sure. I was able to make it change by altering the way i was speaking. It was pretty consistent when i first started using voice input.
Edit: maybe not so sure. Seems random on some of the texts: d,g,y,n and e have been capitalized. I have been able to recreate it but Not understanding how a silent 'e' would be capitalized because of inflection. Will experiment some more..

I asked this question about 2 months ago - mine was capitalizing random letters. The only solution offered (which worked) was to turn off the auto-caps option for voice.
Is there any way to make auto-correct jus take my words from suggestions as I type without javinh to tap the suggested word? Ive always used custom ROMs and not seen this behavior...suggestions are there but if I dont intentionally tap them it takes whatever I tyoe...which can be subpar 8n many cases LOL ok it is happening now too

i agree, i am not the best typer and i wish it would just input the word it suggests for me rather than me having to go back and correct my sentence.
I'm interested in this as well. The ability of the app to auto replace the mispelled word and to learn the users typing habits is one of the few things that apple got right.
I purchased swiftkey because I was not able to use the Samsung keyboard. Swiftkey auto corrects the words which I had on all my previous phones.
The reviews I read about the GS4 all said they could not find a setting to do this automatically. They all suggested going with a 3rd party keyboard like Swiftkey.
I'm not sure if this problem is isolated to me or if it affects everyone, so I thought I'd ask.
tl;dr: text messages don't persist on the phone, and in Google Messenger in particular, outgoing texts don't display as part of the conversation.
I use Google Messenger by default, and I noticed that none of the text messages I sent were appearing in the conversation history. Turns out, they weren't reaching the recipients either.
I switched to Google Hangouts, and all of the texts I received from (and sent to) other people before my upgrade were present, but any texts I received from others were gone.
I tried deleting and reinstalling Google Messenger, thinking maybe it was a version/cache thing, and again, any text I received before the upgrade was present, but none since the upgrade, including any I had received while using Google Hangouts.
Something definitely seems f%@#ed up here. Am I alone?

Same here. Verizon's messaging app works though, and actually seems half decent.
Yep just got off phone with VZ support and that is the workaround (use Verizon Messages Plus) they are doling out as a fix to the problem, says tech will be getting in touch with Sony for fix and may be another small update for it.
Lots of reddit users are having the same issue. If you're up for it, it looks like a factory reset will fix the problem.
Had to do a frigging factory reset, but all works well now

FDR sucks, wife will not be happy. I have a replacement phone to activate replacing the one I just updated, so will activate then do factory reset.
Bites.
Is anyone else having tissues access visual voicemail?

Did a factory data reset on new phone after update, takes a long time to boot sets at check mark screen for several minutes, standard text does work now.
Factory reset does fix text
I haven't had many phones. I'm assuming this doesn't happen to often, cause this is crazy. What if only 10% of you having update issues needed your phone for work? How can companies stay in business doing this kind of thing?

If it is a company supplied phone I would think that any modifications would be forbidden, any good IT department would be on top of any shananagans as such. I'm IT for the corporate office I work at (don't be impressed, I'm the office Alphageek and won the title by default.) and when corporate supplied the phones they maintained tight rein over the units. Now we are "bring your own device". As such if your phone is critical for your job and you bork it I would expect corporate to tell you to fix the problem ASAP even if it means buying another phone.

That must have you hopping all over the place like a rabbit trying to fix everyone's issues. But I was speaking more about Verizon's consumer base relying upon their phones in general.

My bad, I see your point now. For an official update this one has created a world of grief for many that installed it via the "official" route. Usually a factory reset is a last resort to many and apparently for this update it looks like a required step.
[EDIT] Just checked the official Verizon forums. People are struggling with the same problems that are being posted here. It looks like a couple have figured out a factory reset works and are trying to spread the word, there is very little Verizon help showing up.

A few years ago it did back when we were running a mix of name brand systems (Dell, Gateway and HP). I would say it occupied 30-50% of my time, since then we have standardized on Dells running Windows 7. That is a bulletproof combination in an office environment. I know everyone bad mouths Dells but since we with Dell/Win 7 my workload has dropped 90%.

I think the textra app also works if you would want to try that before resetting.

Thanks, but already did the FDR, wasn't to bad, just time consuming. FDR does fix the problem though.

Do you realize that the text issue is completely unrelated to any "modification". This phone was "borked" by a VZ-pushed OTA. I had to do a factory reset last night, lost my corporate e-mail set up through Touchdown. I also missed communications previously, while I was unaware of the texting issue. Those texts are just "gone" now. This is very poor form on the part of VZ, not even checking that texting will continue to work after users upgrade.

I wasn't implying you goofed up your phone, just following up on AddictedtoGlass's comments, sorry if it came across that I was.
Yeah, this update does seem to be causing more grief than usual. That may be keeping with the comments I stumbled across in Verizon's forums claiming that the code sent to Verizon by Sony wasn't "up to snuff" in Verizon's opinion and that is why Verizon sit on the update so long. Looks like they should have sit on it a little bit longer. I'm on 5.0.2 and my phone is pretty stable so I'm content to stay there until this is all straightened out, if ever.
I have been trying to find more info on Verizon's community forums but they have managed to make their forums so hard to navigate now that finding particular threads is almost impossible. I guess that is one way of controlling the flood of complaints.
