Auto-Correct Question - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Is there any way to make auto-correct jus take my words from suggestions as I type without javinh to tap the suggested word? Ive always used custom ROMs and not seen this behavior...suggestions are there but if I dont intentionally tap them it takes whatever I tyoe...which can be subpar 8n many cases LOL ok it is happening now too

i agree, i am not the best typer and i wish it would just input the word it suggests for me rather than me having to go back and correct my sentence.

I'm interested in this as well. The ability of the app to auto replace the mispelled word and to learn the users typing habits is one of the few things that apple got right.

I purchased swiftkey because I was not able to use the Samsung keyboard. Swiftkey auto corrects the words which I had on all my previous phones.

The reviews I read about the GS4 all said they could not find a setting to do this automatically. They all suggested going with a 3rd party keyboard like Swiftkey.

has anyone else had problems with cursor while typing

Ok this isn't a huge problem but it does annoy me. When I type on the phone and.if i wanna go back to fix a typo or write something else it seems very difficult to get the cursor where i want it..on the og EVO u would just tap where I wanted to type or whatever..now it seems a lot more difficult..it brings up like a green icon that you slide ..its just like the icon when you cut and paste a word..funny though as i type this it isn't doing it as bad..the thing just bounces around and moves by itself..
One cool feature about the HTC hero was the trackball. I miss that!
if you use honeycomb (edit... Gingerbread) keyboard, you can slide the spacebar up to reveal directional arrows.
...nice upgrade from hero

Yes. Drove me nuts. I wasn't sure what the hell was doing it...I've been using the GB cursor thing for months now so it ain't me...my tablet and other phones all work normal. drove me up a goddamned wall cuz it always seemed to work fine for everything EXCEPT the actual place you need to put the damned thing...like it knew and was ****in' with me.

Also if you use swype you can bring up directional arrows by swyping from the swype key to the symbols key right next to each other as well so very quick

To me that sounds like "You know what, I really miss Atari"...like you time traveled from 2 years ago just to get this phone.
Drove me nuts too, until I finally learned how to use it.

I'd prefer to not adapt to a design flaw. It worked perfectly fine before, I refuse to believe this is a "feature" so much as a bug as they say, one man's trash...
Yea I can't figure it out ..ill press where I want it to go and it will go there there just bounce somewhere else..it drives me nuts when typing..also I always hit the period instead of space but I guess that's my fault

Similar with Swiftkey X, you can enable arrows in the options, allowing for finer control of the cursor.
Honestly, though, the touch-based cursor control is always something that iOS has done better than Android, in my experience. Android gets close, but iOS moves the cursor very smoothly within words.

Voice recognition won't capitalize first word of sentence.

Am I doing something wrong? I have the auto Capitalize first word turned on.
It works with the keypad but when using voice recognition, it doesn't work on the FIRST sentence.
IOW, if I hit the voice recognition mic icon in ANY application and say "Testing 123 period" three times, the word Testing is only capitalized in the 2nd two sentences. Annoying as hell.
I'm getting this too. Captivate, latest update from AT&T (no rooting, etc). Didn't always do this. Something changed with app updates. Also used to get a choice of three interpretations where I got to choose the closest one (or cancel) and that's gone now too.
Really? Hellcatrydr and me are the only ones getting this issue?

Do a Google search about it. Lots of people complaining about it on all sorts of Android devices. I've also had a few customers ask about it and want their phone exchanged for it. Yeah, right.

Keyboard Help

Is there an app or some mod that will help me with my horrible typing? I guess I'm not very coordinated or just plain sloppy with my typing. Common words are nit = not, ta = ya, haven't = gaven't and so on. The letters are close together and it seems like my words are butchered pretty often.
What would be neat would be some way to reverse the suggested words that pop up. Is there some way to make commonly mistyped words replaced with pre-stored words and have the actual word as a suggestion? Kind of similar to the user dictionary?
The best thing I've found for this is a keyboard app named SwiftKey X. I thought I'd never give up my Swype but I tried this and never went back. I can make a mess of every word I type and it somehow seems to get the words right. Only problem is, I get to relying on it for correcting my mistakes too much and quit paying attention to what I typed and that's about the time it misses. Send an odd SMS once a while. lol. Only way to find out if it's right for you is to try it. It's not free but it does have a 30 day free trial.
Cool. I'll give it a try. At this point, anything will help.
+1 on swiftkey. Its a great app. I just wish it had more theme support.

SwiftKey is great. I use it exclusively.

+1 for SwiftkeyX for me as well. Definitely worth the price.
i'd like to recommend Go Keyboard. It's free and I found it to be much faster than SwiftKeyX, which I've also used extensively (ran the beta back on my OG Droid all that time ago)
^I have also been using GO Keyboard. For some reason I have to reselect it after I reboot(otherwise it reverts to the GB keyboard).
Smart Keyboard is also worth checking out.

Stock keyboard kinda laggy?

Got my device about 2 weeks ago and sometimes my keyboard seems to hang on one letter...sometimes activating shift and putting the sign of the specific number in. Has happened about 5 times just posting this. I can type pretty quick I guess, but neither of my htc phones ever had this issue. Is there a decent keyboard out there that has the same format as the samsung keyboard? With the numbers up top? Been looking and havent see any that look like this one. Anyone that has any input as to the above would be appreciated.
You can try swype. That's what I'm using it's a great keyboard.
Also Google keyboard.

I've had a problem with any keyboard I've used on the S4 lagging a bit. SwiftKey, Google Keyboard, etc. They didn't do it on my DNA. But sometimes they'll get stuck on a letter and it'll take a second for it to register or I'll type so fast (I guess) that it thinks I'm swyping when I'm really not and put in some pretty random words.
KINDA LAGGY?!? the samsung keyboard since the s3 has literally been, by far, the worst keyboard of any OEM ever created. ever. in the existence of keyboards.

I haven't had any lag problems while typing. Sometimes I have noticed it takes a few extra seconds for the keyboard to open/close when you want to type. But thats about it.
Doesnt lag opening, just when I type. Gonna try a sentence here and we'll see what it looks like.
I d [nt why this keyboard gets so la/gy sometimes but its really annoying. Think I might just have to learn swype.
Actually worked better than normal but still hung on a few letters and changed 2. Might try the others mentioned but I do like the numbers on the top...

[Q] Stock LG Keyboard

Anyone one having issues with the stock LG keyboard and phantom characters on right side of screen? ie a P produces an O? Mine does not do it all the time and when it does a phone restart seems to fix it for awhile.

I wound up exchanging my G3 for an S5, but it's funny you mention that because I occasionally had the same problem. I figured I was just being extra sloppy when I was typing - if I was extra-extra careful I could still get the intended letter...
Not sure if I was fat fingering it and it's just a coincidence, but since I no longer have my G3 I can't really test it.

When its acting up I can actually press the P and see the O highlight in depress animation....frustrating. ...
I had this happen to me when typing in the stock message app. Every time I would type something it would only do numbers. I found when this happens if you switch from lg to swype and back with in the app it fixed it.
I've been trying out this keyboard. I like it much more than I thought I would, especially coming from SwiftKey.
I use Google KB. Can't type for chit using LG KB though I tried to like it

I didnt notice until you said it....each time I have fought with it it was in stock message app. Wonder if its more app related than input.
I love using the Android L keyboard :good:
