Keyboard Help - Motorola Droid X2

Is there an app or some mod that will help me with my horrible typing? I guess I'm not very coordinated or just plain sloppy with my typing. Common words are nit = not, ta = ya, haven't = gaven't and so on. The letters are close together and it seems like my words are butchered pretty often.
What would be neat would be some way to reverse the suggested words that pop up. Is there some way to make commonly mistyped words replaced with pre-stored words and have the actual word as a suggestion? Kind of similar to the user dictionary?

The best thing I've found for this is a keyboard app named SwiftKey X. I thought I'd never give up my Swype but I tried this and never went back. I can make a mess of every word I type and it somehow seems to get the words right. Only problem is, I get to relying on it for correcting my mistakes too much and quit paying attention to what I typed and that's about the time it misses. Send an odd SMS once a while. lol. Only way to find out if it's right for you is to try it. It's not free but it does have a 30 day free trial.

Cool. I'll give it a try. At this point, anything will help.

+1 on swiftkey. Its a great app. I just wish it had more theme support.

SwiftKey is great. I use it exclusively.

+1 for SwiftkeyX for me as well. Definitely worth the price.

i'd like to recommend Go Keyboard. It's free and I found it to be much faster than SwiftKeyX, which I've also used extensively (ran the beta back on my OG Droid all that time ago)

^I have also been using GO Keyboard. For some reason I have to reselect it after I reboot(otherwise it reverts to the GB keyboard).
Smart Keyboard is also worth checking out.

SwiftKey

Hello all,
I have gotten pretty comfortable with Swype since I got my Vibrant, however, for some reason never quite comfortable enough. I am sure if you really get into it you will be able to type pretty damn fast, but I started looking for an alternative and came across SwiftKey - not sure if it had been mentioned here before, but a search did not turn anything up. It's in beta, and I am using it since a few days now and have to say it's probably the best prediction algorithm I've seen in a keyboard so far - after using it for a few days it really catches on to your style and saves you boatloads of keystrokes. I am sure it will go for-pay at some point, but unless it is something outrageous I'll probably cough up the dough for it.

Just thought it might help someone else out there that is just not 100% comfortable with the whole swiping thing...
Have you tried the stock sammy kb? Its actually pretty decent... But I used swift key on my hero and magic...

Yea, I tried it, but got annoyed because the layout of the keys, combined with the t-mobile gel case kept me from getting the outer most buttons tapped sometimes. Also the fact that I could not easily get to some special characters I commonly use. Swift seems to do the trick for me.
Still waiting for BlindType to be released and take it for as spin...
Swiftkey is the bomb. The longer you use it, the better it gets. Sometimes I can type whole texts with just the suggestions.

Has anyone switched from a keyboard phone to TB?

I currently have an HTC Desire Z and I really want the Thunderbolt, but all my android phones thus far have had a full slide out keyboard and I'm just not sure if I can do without one. Has anyone else switched from a phone with a keyboard to the Thunderbolt?
What is your experience?
I switched over from the original Droid. The change hasn't been bad at all, with swype or even the stock HTC keyboard, it's about the same. The only thing having to look at your phone to type.
I switched over from the original Droid. But then again I think I used the keyboard on the Droid about twice before realizing the on-screen board was monumentally better and never slid it open again.
I switched over from original Droid, I used to love the physical keyboard. But this screen is so accurate and big I've found the on screen keyboard to be more effecient and even in portrait mode its ridiculously accurate. I never plan on going back to a physical keyboard.

You wont regret
you wont regret the switch extremely accurate.
My last 5 phones had a slide out keyboard, so I was worried about the switch, but it really isn't bad. It takes some getting used to, and I have to look at the phone to type. I also can't type as fast. I think when I type too fast, it tries to change letters I pressed thinking it was a mistake. Other than that, it isn't bad.
I switched from a tp2 and I love it. The landscape keyboard is almost bigger then the tp2's slider!
Own both Samsung Epic 4G with slide out keyboard and HTC Thunderbolt. I needed the slide out keyboard for the rare times that I'm oncall and need to use the phone as a laptop replacement to VPN and RDP otherwise touch is fine for casual use the rest of the time. HTC Thunderbolt's touch is much more precise than the Samsung Epic 4G.
This is my first ever keypadless phone. I've had the Tilt2 on ATT since it came out, and its predecessor, and several other phones, always with physical keyboards.
Now I'm just thinking what an idiot I've been. Swype is simply AMAZING. After just 3 days using swype, I'm already faster typing than I ever was with physical keys on any phone.
Never going to look back, and I doubt you will either.
I came from the original Droid and was worried I would miss the physical keyboard...which I used often. Honestly...I haven't had any issues. Flipping the phone to landscape gives you a nice sized keyboard. Although I don't know if its me or my screen but I seem to have trouble type the letter Y.

I have a friend who moved to the EVO from her blackberry and has been loving the move so far. Plus she's using swype, which I think greatly helps the switch once you get the handle on how to use swype. Figured it was worth mentioning as it's effectively the same size phone/platform.
Yes, there is definitely a learning curve, but I have had mine since thursday and I seem to be getting the hang of a slate. I came from the D2 and had the TP2 before that. The speed of the phone definitely makes up for the lack of HW KB.

QFT. There is no reason to use anything but swype.
Also, I cannot for the life of me use a phone with a keyboard after having a touchscreen only phone. Had a friend get the evo shift and he used the keyboard once, and never touched it again.
Wow, wasn't expecting this much response. But thanks for all the input and it sounds like the opinions are all the same across the board. Probably will be making the switch soon, plus it will be nice to be back on Verizon. Thanks so much.

So this phone does have swype?

It doesn't come preinstalled from what I could tell from the in store model I played with. You can always install it yourself. Though apparently some people are having issues w/ spacing from what I read on another thread in this forum, probably worth looking into that to see if there is a fix yet.

you just have to try other keyboard phones in the market, at this time theres only the droid 2 thats comparable to my og droid on verizon. the epic 4g is nice but i cant go to sprint. the phone's screen is so large it makes it easy. the only problem is that with my og droid i could type under the the table no problem if i had to send a message out, but with this i have to look at the screen.
My first smart phone was the samsung sch-i760, loved the hw keyboard, that's why I moved on to the tp2 afterwards. To be honest, the tp2 shows absolutely no wear after using swype. As soon a you get used to swype you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
Bummer the thunderbolt didn't come with swype but the evo version is working fine for me now, but I do like the beta layout more to be honest. In due time I spose

I switched over from an OG Droid running 2.3, and therefore a Gingerbread keyboard. I really loved my QWERTY, but now, I'm getting the hang of the on screen keyboard. I installed the 2.3 keyboard .apk and typing just kinda flows. It's different, but it's fluid. The switch is worth it in the end.
I came from OG Droid and it was smooth and great. always used touch screen on d1 anyways.
has anyone got a working version of swype yet? my beta copy still has spacing bug. or was beta updated? didnt want to install swype installer and go through all that if someone knows.

Auto-Correct Question

Is there any way to make auto-correct jus take my words from suggestions as I type without javinh to tap the suggested word? Ive always used custom ROMs and not seen this behavior...suggestions are there but if I dont intentionally tap them it takes whatever I tyoe...which can be subpar 8n many cases LOL ok it is happening now too

i agree, i am not the best typer and i wish it would just input the word it suggests for me rather than me having to go back and correct my sentence.
I'm interested in this as well. The ability of the app to auto replace the mispelled word and to learn the users typing habits is one of the few things that apple got right.
I purchased swiftkey because I was not able to use the Samsung keyboard. Swiftkey auto corrects the words which I had on all my previous phones.
The reviews I read about the GS4 all said they could not find a setting to do this automatically. They all suggested going with a 3rd party keyboard like Swiftkey.

Stock keyboard kinda laggy?

Got my device about 2 weeks ago and sometimes my keyboard seems to hang on one letter...sometimes activating shift and putting the sign of the specific number in. Has happened about 5 times just posting this. I can type pretty quick I guess, but neither of my htc phones ever had this issue. Is there a decent keyboard out there that has the same format as the samsung keyboard? With the numbers up top? Been looking and havent see any that look like this one. Anyone that has any input as to the above would be appreciated.
You can try swype. That's what I'm using it's a great keyboard.
Also Google keyboard.

I've had a problem with any keyboard I've used on the S4 lagging a bit. SwiftKey, Google Keyboard, etc. They didn't do it on my DNA. But sometimes they'll get stuck on a letter and it'll take a second for it to register or I'll type so fast (I guess) that it thinks I'm swyping when I'm really not and put in some pretty random words.
KINDA LAGGY?!? the samsung keyboard since the s3 has literally been, by far, the worst keyboard of any OEM ever created. ever. in the existence of keyboards.

Open/Close
I haven't had any lag problems while typing. Sometimes I have noticed it takes a few extra seconds for the keyboard to open/close when you want to type. But thats about it.
Doesnt lag opening, just when I type. Gonna try a sentence here and we'll see what it looks like.
I d [nt why this keyboard gets so la/gy sometimes but its really annoying. Think I might just have to learn swype.
Actually worked better than normal but still hung on a few letters and changed 2. Might try the others mentioned but I do like the numbers on the top...

[Q] Very laggy keyboard?

I did a quick search but couldn't find anything that was similar to my particular keyboard woes.
Basically I just got my HTC one replaced (due to blown speaker) and this new one has the slowest keyboard I've ever used. Every two characters or so the board will completely hang.
It acts as if my finger is still on the screen wherever it freezes at and freezes for around 2/3 seconds each time. Every two characters or so. At least once a word.
It does it on the stock ROM (4.3), on ARHD(4.4), and any other Roms I've tried. It does it with the stock board, swiftkey, and googles board.
It wasn't an issue with my old One, and while I want to say its hardware, scrolling is smooth, any other touchscreen interaction is smooth. It is simply native to the keyboard. It makes texting and any other typing an absolute nightmare.
Does anyone else have similar issues or a fix that they can think of? I'd be willing to try anything as I do a lot of typing on my phone. I'm on my third One and its getting a bit ridiculous. Thank you very much for any help. I appreciate it!

Take it to your carriers retail store make them troubleshoot it and replace it on the spot... Let them know this is the third replacement with issue and that I you would like a new one
