Atrix 4G
I have successfully rooted and installed CWM and TB. I've flashed the latest Android Recovery. I've rebooted while holding the volume down and that gets me into the initial recovery menu where I can keep pressing volume down until I get to Android Recovery. Then I press volume up and get the exclamation point guy.
Then I press both volume up and down and enter a blue menu of Android recovery menus but there are no options for BAckup / Restore. I can only flash a zip, wipe cache, wipe data, or reboot. No other options are available.
How do I backup my current ROM? Please - I've searched and am at a loss. . .
Thanks.
I'm not exactly sure which type of backup you want, but if you get ROM Manager from the market (free version will suffice) scroll down to backup inside the app and it will do a full system backup. Be aware it does shut down in the middle of backing up so don't freak out. Let it run its course should take around 10 minutes

tried this and it prompts me to name the backup then restarts and opens up to the exclamation point guy and just sits there. . .
Not really sure what ive done wrong.
The prompt and restart is correct, but the backing up should being, hmm..... Are you running the most up to date version of your recovery? Which recovery is it exactly (romracers, ROM Managers, tenfars)?

Basically, I installed YogenTouch 1.5 after been riding the nightly cyanogen wave and having the phone crash during idle time. I wanted to try something new. Problem is that I can't install anything else with Clockwork and my question is simple:
How can I return the phone to its most basic state, with a gingerbread rom and a clean slate?
I tried flashing other mods, windows 7 is now telling me it should repair the usb whenever I connect it to the computer, I'd love to format and start the rooting process all over again, but I'm afraid I'll brick it.
Thanks!
If you install a rom like blayo, do you wipe your phone before you install?

i don't, i keep all my apps and everything, no cleaning of data or cache or dalvik.

Normaly if you change roms you have to wipe everything to have that fresh feel of the new rom
Try backing up your apps; I recommend titanium backup free, to be sure also backup true cwm, then wipe everything and then install a new rom
That should fix your problem

that's the problem, flashing won't work.. i get stuck in the clockwork mod recovery thing with the triangle and the upside down ! sign
looks like you need fake flash
Dude, if you had rommanager installed. The cwm recovery should be installed properly. But just in case you faild to get in to cwm recovery. Than at the red triangle with ! Sign. Press vol + and the power button. Than use the update.zip to access cwm. Rommanager will copy it's cwm as update.zip to your sd card when you installed it.

if you have that screen press volume + and then the power button and keep the volume + pressed while pressing the power button
then select flash update.zip and confirm with power
hi guys. i dont know much but maybe you guys can help. evo 3d is my first smart phone. got it on launch day. i followed the video instructions for root earlier today and it worked. my question is regarding flashing the actual roms. is it just as simple as dragging the zip onto the sd card? thanks for the help.
You need a custom recovery to flash roms, kernels, and any other flashable mods. Do you have one yet? If you do the first thing you must do is a full nandroid backup.
i used the clockwordmod that came with revolutionary and already did a nandroid backup. am i all set?
Ok sounds good. Make sure fastboot is unchecked under settings>power. Turn off your phone. Boot into your hboot by holding down vol down and power button. Use volume button to highlight recovery in your hboot and use power button to select it. Now I'm using teamwins recovery so I can't give you a step by step. But basically make sure you have done a full nandroid. Make sure you have a ROM to flash on your sdcard. Wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. Select choose zip to install from sdcard. Navigate to that zip and select. Don't mess with your phone til it says install complete. Reboot your phone using recovery menu. And I always wait about 5 minutes before using my phone when flashing anything.
Ps it would also be a good idea to buy titanium backup pro from the market and backup your apps, and data (call history, messages, bookmarks, etc.)
thanks alot for the help
Hi all,
Let me start by saying I am no expert in any of this stuff.
I rooted my galaxy note, flashed Sauron Rom up to RC4 and was fine. And then I wanted to use Long press back key function, but this time, instead of "power off" first from the phone and "pressing volume down and up and power button" to access CWM recovery, I chose instead "Recovery" option to shut my phone and boot into CWM. Now, my phone keeps booting into CWM recovery mod no matter what I do with it. I erase/factory reset, wipe cache, delvik, even restore to old rom several times. However, every time I choose "reboot system now", it reboots then comes right back into CWM recovery mode. Please someone help this newbie out!!! PLEASE!!!

which version of Clockwork Mod are you using. I would use DA_g's rooted recovery from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504647 to see if that stops the boot loops and then try to flash the latest beta 4 recovery from here after you get the phone stable again http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526431
I think you need to move this to the Q&A Thread for Saurom.
What bkeaver said. Make sure your using the latest CWM version. This is a dead ringer for the problems of the early version.
[Q] Urgently need help: Atrix 4G Stuck on "Dual Core" screen after flashing to CM9
My Atrix 4G was stock Gingerbread 2.3.6 on v4.5.141 - rooted and unlocked. I followed the instructions to flash CM 9- following the instructions. I used ROM Manager to make a backup of my stock 2.3.6 and the ClockWorkMod. Things did not work out after I followed the instructions.
Now my phone says, "Unlocked" at the top left and shows the Motorola logo and the dual core technology. Its not bricked- I can still access the Android Recovery menu. I even tried to return the device to default through the Android Recovery menu but that didn't work (its still stuck). I can't find the recovery files either.
Since I have unlocked 2.3.6 - I cannot flash sbf files through RSD without bricking my device. How can I return to my earlier stock configuration? Will I be able to keep root?
Thanks.
Are you saying you cannot flash your backup? Also have you tried to flash a fruitcake in recovery? Rom Manager saves to internal SD try to restore from internal and see if that fixes issue.

What is a fruitcake? I read that there is a large chance the phone
How could I flash a backup without actually accessing the application on my phone? What program would I use on my pc to gain access to the backup? I've already wiped the data and factory reset my phone through the Android Recovery menu... would this delete all I can't access my internal SD card from the standard Android Recovery menu.

You can flash your backup through the Android Recovery in the "backup & restore" option (assuming your backup was saved there)
but first via android recovery:
clear data/factory reset
clear cache
advanced>wipe dalvik cache
(that's what I like to do to ensure a clean install of the backup[if such thing exists lol])

Where can I access the backup & restore option?
I think you're talking about another menu. I can't access that menu- when I say Android Recovery, I mean the one that is actually Motorola's. To access it, I hold the power button and lower volume key down, and then find the Android system recovery menu. I get the Android guy and an exclamation point in a triangle, and then hold the up and down volume keys simultaneously. The menu shows the following options:
Android system recovery utility
>reboot system now
>apply update from sdcard
>wipe data/factory reset
>wipe cache partition

I think you have the stock recovery. You need a custom recovery to access to that menu, flash custom roms and do back ups. You can use romracers recovery which is commonly used

I think that you flashed a wrong recovery because "normal" ones have
-reboot system
-install zip from sdcard
-wide data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-backup and restore
-mounts and storage
-advanced
I'm using ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.1.8 (CWM touch recovery)
try to flash another recovery like the newest one (CWM touch recovery)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1475444
through fastboot and cmd on your pc
fastboot flash recovery RECOVERYNAME.img
fastboot reboot

Is Romracers recovery used on the phone or computer? I can't use apps on my phone. How do I use Romracers? Yes, I am a noob to the glorious world of Android .

That's a recovery so access it by holding down the power button and volume down and then on "Android Recovery" push power up. Then you will boot into the recovery, try to wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, advanced> wipe dalvik cache then reinstall the CM9 rom. It will probably work this time because you have the right recovery.

Hold the power and volume down button until you see fast boot. Use volume down button to scroll down until recovery shows and then press the volume up button. Then recovery menu should up.

I'm having the same issue I used Tenfar's cwm and now I only receive the dual core screen and when I try to go into recovery I get magic value mismatch. Something tells me the phone is doomed.

Long story short, someone took my phone and launched it off the ground. Screen doesnt turn on, but the phone still works.
Can someone please tell me the button pressing order to make a nandroid backup and then do a full data wipe and cache wipe.
Thanks
I am using CM9 nightlies with the CWM that comes with that. 5.x I think
Edit: I would be willing to do it over ADB, I assume I can wipe data etc with that. I just need to be able to recover that onto the phone if it gets replaced or Samsung do a factory wipe
Press volume up + home + power button at the same time to reboot into recovery mode.

Hey thanks for the reply.
I was actually looking for how many times I need to press up and down etc to navigate CWM to actually get to the backup and clear data menus.
Doesnt matter now though, I just ADB pulled my /system and file mounted and copied off an old nandroid backup I had.
