[Sourcecode] Motorola RAZR source code released! - Motorola Droid RAZR

Motorola DROID RAZR source code released
Android hackers and RAZR fans alike can rejoice today as Motorola has just released the source code for their new and popular DROID RAZR. It was announced back in October and became available earlier this month and now all the developers have full access to the code if needed.
As you can see in our image above the phone is still a little locked down, as usual with Motorola the bootloader is locked down quite tight. However, the RAZR was rooted very quickly after being launched and details for root are available here. Some modders might be worried with a non-removable battery but we found out it actually does come out — it just takes some effort.
The source code will allow the full development and modding to really begin, for those that aren’t familiar and hopefully we’ll be seeing some progress for this amazingly thin and sleek phone soon. Covered in Kevlar now we just need some Ice Cream Sandwich and it’d be perfect. The DROID Bionic has some CM7 ports under way but I have a feeling most of the development community will be aiming for Android 4.0 ICS for the RAZR. We’ll be sure to update once some ROM’s start becoming available. Don’t forget to check out our full DROID RAZR review while you’re here.
From sourceforge!
It'd been posted about a week ago but didn't even mentioned here
Hopefully we could see Cyanogenmod and its variations sooner.

It came out a couple of weeks ago and it has been already posted on XDA. I think it was moved in the General section.

Yeah man read the forums before posting.

Development?

I'm starring to worry. I see an ass of development on the other Galaxy S variant forums, and there's like crickets chirping on this end. Am I missing something?

I suspect we'll see progress within a week. As a positive sign, koush tweeted today looking for people with the fascinate and epic 4G to join him on irc to get clockworkmod rolling.
We don't have kernel source, so we don't have a working recovery yet. A working recovery is the first major step towards real development.
Things are being worked on in the background, but until we can flash roms there isn't much point in posting everything.
Have you filed a source code request with Samsung?
I believe once Samsung releases the kernel source, we will start seeing a lot more process. Believe me I too am used to a strong dev community with my Droid and also visited the xda nexus section on s daily basis.
I got this phone because the hardware is pretty much the best all around from any phone out right now, just the software is the only thing bringing it down at the moment. Once we get some stock android and kernels that better utilize the hardware, we should be ahead of anything out right now.
BAM! we got source code..

[Q] Ice cream sandwich on the X2?

Hey Guys!
So after reading a post on G+ from +Dan Morrill which I am to new to link to I just had to ask if anyone is aware of when/if ICS will be available in the DX2 or, and more importantly, if anyone is going to begin work on it now that the source is available. Now, I'm not an expert with ROMs but I am an experienced programmer so I don't know exactly how huge of a step this is in getting the version of the OS on the DX2, but it seems to me pretty important.
Just checking in,
bericp1
There is a slight chance that we might see it in an official release from motorola but that won't be more likely till next year if at all. Yes the source might be out today but we'll only see ics elements incorporated into a rom but not the actual 4.0 experience because of the locked bootloader. We need access to the kernel which our cheesecake friends are looking hard for.
I'm pretty sure we'll get it. When is a whole different question... when you look at the X2's hardware, there seems to be no reason it shouldn't get it. However, knowing how IT works, specifically software engineering, the age old problem of Faster, Cheaper, and More Effecient makes the DX2, Atrix, Photon, and Electrify look unlikely to receive it for a long while(although since those guys have access to the boot loader, it's a moot point) .
Long story short: meh, at least it's a fun phone with good battery life.

[Q] razr development

Is it me or is the development on the Droid Razr/VZW Razr is extremly failing?
It's coming. Just be patience
If the bootloader gets unlocked will that open up development?
Well for my experience having a Droid 2 development wasn't halted by the locked bootloader...
Even though most of the roms were moto blur based the user still had the option to change to a different rom were here there us only one...

The difference there is the original BLUR ROM that was on the D2 was HORRIBLE. Probably one of the worst implementations of BLUR ever.
I had a D2G, and it felt like Motorola dropped their pants and BLURRED all over my phone....it was ****e.
For the RAZR, the BLUR is really background. It's the best I've seen, as far as implementation of bloatware, and resources not being heavily taxed.
I've basically just rooted, frozen the bloatware, loaded ADW launcher, and I'm REALLY close to a CM7 build, in terms of performance and features.
We're also so close to ICS & CM9 being available that it doesn't make sense for a Dev to put a ton of work into creating a CM7 port on this phone.....what would that REALLY gain?? Maybe a bit of De-odexing, but that's about it, and even then performance is not really increased. So what would you like to see?? MIUI or Aphex might be nice to see, but again, what's the true benefit vs the work that would go into it??
Once CM9 hits officially, and they figure out the touch screen issues in ICS, I guarantee you'll see Dev's forking the trees of those ROM's and you'll see more development come. Right now, you can grab some pretty killer themes off a couple different forums, and you'll still have one of the best performing phones on the market, with probably the best build quality out there.
I remember my D2G, I was very unsatisfied with development as well for 2.5-3 months, but when CM7 finally started to get Alpha builds....the flood gates opened, and I ended up with 4 different ROM's to try in a months time period.
I settled on CM7 Rev Numbers, and was stoked with my phone up until the time I lost in Singapore.
After that experience, I'm totally OK with being patient until CM9 can port, because stock GB - bloatware on the RAZR is AWESOME.
Right. We have CM9 on the way from dhacker29 (and DroidTh3ory?), which could lead to like ICS MIUI and OMFICS or something lol. Nitro is trying to deodex so he can start on Eclipse... We're not dead, we're just in the middle of a weird patch.

I guess so..
the only thing we have to do now is wait..
Just an FYI, one of the dev's on another site just broke the code on the touch screen drivers, and is working this weekend to re-write them in ICS, so we may see an "alpha" version next week......MAYBE.
That was the last piece, as the radio's were working, but the touch was still not.
There's also the boot times, but those seemed to be tied to the touch screen.
Seriously, if this hits next week, you're going to see some big announcements soon.

This is my point also.
My Razr rooted and bloat frozen is running GREAT!
No ROM based on 2.3.X will run that much better (if at all) than what we have.

Motorola promised ICS for RAZR. What can a custom ROM provide that would improve on stock ICS, slightly Blurred, plus your favorite launcher and theme?

I'm glad I read your post. I was getting a little impatient with the development as well, but after reading what you had to say, it helps. Good things come to those who wait. Cliche but true. Thanks

Motorola also promised unlocked bootloaders. And left droid bionic buyers in the cold when they released the razr two months later. Some company.

[Q] Blur versions of photon vs d3/bionic/razr

Hiyo all !!
Actually I was just curious if there is some kind of version upgrade on Motoblur (oops Motorola's application platform to be exact) between that of photon 4g than other moto qhd devices recently launched like that of bionic , droid 3 and the sweet droid razr.
I am sure almost all of you who have seen both device might have found that there are some minor changes like horizontal paginated drawer on droid 3/bionic versus vertical continous that of photon and some extra widgets in d3/bionic's version.
These changes doesn't matter much to me, but one thing that does matter is that MAP (or as well can blur) on D3/bionic seems much seemless, swift and lagfree to me then on stock photon.
This got me curious if ther is a new version of MAP on these new devices like Razr/bionic and if it is , is there any way to port that from these devices and get on our beloved photon.
Can some of the dev's investigate on this and let me know if its possible. I tried to google it (this is all I can do really !!) but couldn't find any answers.
Thanks in advance !!!
Posted it in Q&A section as soon as I realized I am in the wron section. Sorry for the confusion. Please continue discussion on this in q&A section.
Thanks

[Q] JB update on I717 has rendered this phone officially obsolete...

The Samsung update has been itemized and posted on numerous news blogs. Each details all the fancy new features.
Well has anyone actually been able to use them?
Isn't this already 10 months after JB was released?
Why are there more blogs about the features 4.1.2 is supposed to include, and not more about how none of them are actually there?
I have read a few posts about the features being activated "at a later date". Why is this necessary? I have come to the conclusion that the Note I717 is officially obsolete.
No mutli view.
No page buddy.
No "increased preformance" from butter.
no fun.
Ok this rant is really just to see if everyone else feels the burn. Maybe all our internet rage can make the developers realize they should stop pushing out lack-luster performance! Not that we keep things stock, I would like a better foundation to build something amazing onto though!
I dunno, I really like the release. I am happy we got it.
Nice first post. Now, maybe you should spend a little more time researching and you will find that when JB was released to our phone....the source code should not be far behind.....and the source code is what is exciting and needed for the devs!

I for one am over the moon that Samsung came good for this update. I now have a fully functioning Google Now experience on a rom that is stock stable.
I went for a 12km run this morning using sporty pal to track my distance and listened to tune in radio the whole way...for fun, I whipped out my camera and took a few pics along the way. All this with decent battery stats.
Any other rom I have used would have crashed at some point doing all those three things at once.
Thread closed. Appreciate the angst and anxiety being discussed, but this is a development site.
Why not contribute to said development versus complaining about "stuff"?
