[Q] Non-booting Vibrant from gingerbread bootloader - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, total noob here; expected going from stock froyo to eating a nice ICS rom--Oh boy was I wrong. Current problem is towards the bottom of this post.
Rooting the phone was easy enough, but had to use magic getting Clockwork Recovery to work. I had to flash a "2e recovery menu", whatever that mean (versus the 3e version that originally came on the phone). Unfortunately I mistakenly deleted user/cache data before flashing CWM and did no nandroid backup.
A that point I could install passion v5 using CWM, and ended up in a bootloop, where the original booting image appears, flickered to the ICS bootimage, then back again. At this point I decided I should try going back to stock.
This is the image I tried putting on my phone, using odin3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036193
My phone could only boot into recovery, with an error along the lings of "dbdata: not mounting".
In my infinite noobness, I tried putting this gingerbread bootloader on my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990
Now it doesn't boot at all.
The following recovery guide doesn't help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737
After spending the last couple day working on this problem, I made this account and would like to see some community input on finding a solution.

OK seems like u did get Gingerbread bootloader installed correctly...if that's a case then the keys have changed in order to get to the download mode and recovery mode...so try this
1) pull the battery out
2) plug ur usb wire to ur pc and ur phone
3) hold volume up+
4) insert the battery in
if that don't work then repeat the steps mentioned above only this time on step two press volume down not volume up....good luck
if you get it successfully done...and u r ready to flash ICS make sure u flash it twice if it goes in a bootloop according to the developer that's what he said...u can pm me if u need help...good luck..

Sorry, but I should have mentioned that I tried the no-boot steps with the gingerbread key mappings, to no avail.
I would have stopped at passion rebooting constantly and use Odin3 again, but guess what? It couldn't enter recovery or download mode.
Anyways, do you have anything to say when your steps fail?
Do you recommend I try making a 301K jig to force download mode?
E: Not to say you're wrong, I'm just confident that I tried all possible button combinations.
EE: Just re-read the 301K jig guide again and noticed that my phone doesn't display anything; the jig will not work. Welp
Final Edit: My local store offered a replacement for my broken phone. No need to continue discussion in this thread.

Stuck at Vibrant Boot Screen

Hello everyone. I have a question about the current state of my Vibrant. Coming from a G1, I just upgraded to the Vibrant and have been loving since. I rooted my device, installed Clockwork Recovery, and flashed a new Rom. I decided to switch back to the stock rom but now when I turn on my Vibrant, it just sits at the Vibrant Samsung boot screen... Here are the steps I did up until this point:
1. Starting from the Stock T-Mobile rom, I applied Root update zip but booting into Recovery Mode (Holding down the volume Up/Down buttons and then pressing the Power button).
2. Installed Clockwork Recovery, and then did a Nandroid Backup.
3. Using Clockwork, I installed Eugene's Vibrant7 rom (I left create ROM Backup and Wipe Data options checked)
4. Vibrant7 rom flashed successfully but decided to switch back. So I used Clockwork to boot into manual recovery mode, selected Nandroid and then Restore
After it finished the Restore, it now sits at the Vibrant Samsung boot screen everytime I power it up... I'm thinking I should have not have used the Nandroid Restore to revert back to the stock ROM (unless I'm totally mistaken, I never used Clockwork Recovery before and have flash roms before with my G1).
At this point, could I just reflash back to the stock firmwire using ODIN (Directions from this thread [ROM] OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN/Nandroid Backup Images 7/29/10 (Tested/Working) in the Vibrant/Android Development section). Would that take care of my problem or is my phone currently 'bricked' or SOL?
Thanks in advance for any help or clarification
yeah just odin back to stock... Read the directions carefully
this exact same thing is happening to me. I have tried to follow the instructions to odin. but when I hold volume down and power it just keeps rebooting to the vibrant page. but if I hold volume up and down and power I can get into recovery but non of the options fix my problem. Am I screwed or am I doing something wrong.
i'm having the same problem...stuck on boot screen
i'm on the bell network, are there instructions on how to use odin to fix my phone?
Try this,
1. Take out simcard ms and battery
2. Make sure you have the right drivers for your os
3. Open odin
4. Put your battery back in
5. Hold both volume up and volume down, using two fingers,
just to make sure your not missing a button.
6. Slowly... SLOWLY... put the usb into your phone while doing step 4
7. Continue to hold,
8. Should be in dl mode
If your not take out the battery and repeat 4-7. If odin doesn't recognize your phone, try unplugging the usb wire and reconnecting it.
flashed a sgh t959 with a galaxy s i9ooo kernel oops
hi im stuck in manual mode and when i try to boot the screen shows two different galaxys s screens then goes back to manual mode and i cant get into down load mode it just goes back two manual mode was trying to root used wrong file i think im screwed i flash with oden and used i9000xxxhph tar file
Same with me, I think I soft bricked my vibrant, so I tried to restore to stock rom using odin. Odin detects it and runs stock rom just fine, but once it was restarting, the phone would not still boot up and would stay stuck at the vibrant samsung screen. I tried other roms such as froyo no brick, and i9000 stock rom also, would not boot also, just stuck at the samsung screen. What do I do? Odin works through the process fine though......why isnt it fixed?

OMG MAN!!! i love you! this did it for me, i even went and bough AND made a jig but none worked, didnt boot up into dl mode, just stayed stuck at vibrant boot screen, this did it for me, thx man, saved me hours of stress
yes yes yes! your mistake was using the power button! Lol.
FUTURE NOTE: if you upgrade to any gingerbread roms.... new bootloaders are required. If your JIG didnt get you into download mode before...... then it isn't working right. Once your into the the new Bootloaders for gingerbread, the sequence is........ HOLD VOL UP and POWER until you trigger DL mode. No USB required.... DO NOT FLASH NEW BOOTLOADERS WITHOUT A WORKING JIG IN YOUR POSSESION. TEST IT BEFORE YOU FLASH. I had...... an experiance.... lol
Not working

I tried all the instruction still stuck on Vibrant logo if i connect cable the Loader pix cums but doesnt load or show me battery image what to do now? also Odin doesnt recognize neither i can go to download mode!!!!!
If you can get in DL mode you are halfway there, next make sure you have correct drivers. Uninstall current drivers and reinstall correct drivers. Odin can be funny sometimes, you might need a new USB cable, try every USB port as well.
You can also use the All In One (AIO) program to get drivers and back to stock. If you are having issues with Odin try this

hi,
Once i gt a prob restoring. But then I re-flashed the ROM which the nandroid backup was taken and then in CWM selected advance and gave restore data option(as i remember).. (it was not full restore with system..b/c I flashed system separately)
You can go back to stock using ODIN .. as mentioned by Daddy_617 previously.
tc
Also if Odin doesn't work for you try Heimdall. I've seen post where this has worked for others.

No Download Mode, No Recovery Mode, Stuck at Vibrant Load Screen

Hi all,
Once again, I've hit a wall with my phone. I apologize ahead of time for the length of this post, but i want to be very clear about what happened so I can get it resolved as soon as possible. Also, I have searched for hours to find an answer to this problem, but I've failed to find anything that helps.
Earlier this week I was running Bionix Fusion 1.1 but with all the buzz on the forums about the new 2.2 ROMs I decided to try one. I downloaded Axura 2.0.5 and backed up everything with Titanium Backup and ROM Manager. I then went through ROM Manager to perform the install. This is were I fear I messed something up. I renamed the .zip file from StockKernelAXURA.zip to update.zip (just like when I installed Bionix). Booted into Clockwork (through ROM Manager) and flashed the zip. Everything looked fine during the install, but I'm stuck at the Vibrant load screen.
I found one solution that uses Odin to reflash back to factory, which I did and everything was great... but then I re-flashed and tried Axura 2.0.5 again using the same method. Now I can't boot up (still stuck on the Vibrant load screen) and I can't enter Download mode. I've tried all kinds of button and usb plug-in sequences. Nothing! Please, I know someone out there is thinking "Noob... this is a simple fix!" I'm hoping that person reads this and can lend a helping hand.
Thanks in advance!
This always works for me take out battery plug in usb to phone and computer hold down volume keys while holding the volume keys place the battery back in this should take you to download mode if it doesn't your phone may be hardware locked there are methods of making a device to force download mode but try what I said first then if that doesn't work at least you have an idea of what else to look for
Still flashing , thanks to odin & tw
It worked! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I knew there had to be a way I was missing! I'm flashing back to stock (again) and I'm going to try flashing Axura again... but seeing as the method I used has failed twice so far, any advise? I love how Team Whiskey provided detailed instructions for flashing Bionix Fusion... so shouldn't the same process work for different ROMs? Regardless, now I have another trick up my sleeve.
Thanks again!
Flash it through clockwork in rom manager choose install from sd then go to where it is in your phone click on it that should send you to clockwork recovery then go to install.zip from sd then navigate to whatever folder its in then go to it, it should install you dont have to change the name
Still flashing , thanks to odin & tw
If your unsure about anything I said dont be afraid to ask if I have the answer I'll help you out

I'm assuming you're stuck at cache Just take out your SD card, the large one. I always odin with my sd card out. It gets past that phase where you can get stuck. That will work, and DO NOT rename the {insert rom name here}.zip file to update.zip, just enter clockwork mod recovery and choose install zip from sd card and find it, BUT you NEED to
1. Wipe cache partition
and
2. Wipe DALVIK cache (in advanced menu)
BEFORE installing a rom.

So rather than start new thread I thought id continue on this one saying that I have the same problem only no matter what I do I can not force any mode at all. My phone is currently stuck stating that it is converting data partition to optimize for ext 4.
I really dont know what to do at this point.
I tried the following steps
1. Download all the files required in the "BOOT CYCLE" section of this post.
2. Remove everything from your phone (SD card, sim, battery).
3. Plug your phone into your computer WITHOUT the battery, as you have already taken it out in the last step.
4. Press and HOLD vol. up and vol. down.
5. As you are HOLDING these buttons, reattach your battery.
6. You should be in Download Mode.
7. Unplug phone from USB
8. Follow steps 4-8 from the "BOOT CYCLE" section.
with no results. It doesnt even give my phone enough time to show the charging indicator it just automaticlaly boots.
OK i got it to go into download mode. i just plugged in the cord and held down the volume rocker.
no recovery mode
I have the same problem I can't get into Recovery mode I have an HTC G2, I was installing a new kernel, then the recovery Mode stop working, Got stuck in HTC Logo.
Any idea how to fix the problem or what's my problem??? i'd already try some tips but nothing works....
try using the vibrant toolbox to flash the new rom

You most likely made that backup when voodoo was disabled and now when you restored it, voodoo was enabled. Try booting up in recovery[VOL UP + VOL DOWN + POWER then let go of POWER and keep holding VOL UP + VOL DOWN] and installing a voodoo kernel like overstock.
That may be what happened, but dont know anything about the history of the phone. I have tried over and over to get into recovery mode and it wont go past the Vibrant load screen :/
I am also stuck at the vibrant boot screen.
I was trying to update a rom via CWM on my phone, the phone restarted and is now stuck at the vibrant screen.
I have had trouble connecting my vibrant to the computer before. I am not sure that even if i get my phone into dl mode i might not be able to connect to ODIN.
Please help!!

[Q] Totally bricked, right?

I know, I know, I know.
"Oh this noob is dumb! blahblahblah" yeah, I get it.
BUT... I just want to know that I'm fully bricked and I want to try and understand why it is the way it is.
Here it goes:
BEFORE it was bricked, I reverted the phone back to Stock (Eclair via Odin, because I wanted the Bionix ROM) and I was trying to figure out how to upgrade it to 2.2 and to get CWM. I looked throughout the bible and stuff but I totally just got lost.
I, instead, being the dumb person I am, I download Stock+Voodoo for 2.2 and I flash it via Odin. I now realize that I have totally screwed stuff up.
I boot up the phone and you know what pops up? Red CWM.
It can't mount the system or even look at the recovery logs and I now know I totally effed up the phone, bad.
I try to get into download mode.. it goes to CWM.
I try to reboot into download mode via CWM and since I was able to have access to ADB via CWM, I tried ADB... that didn't work, it booted into CWM.
I even plug in the charger when the phone's off and it boots into CWM.
It shows the battery for a little (loading bar has no animation and the battery is just there... it stays still for say... 5 secs then boots into CWM).
What did I corrupt/mess up, etc?
Is it the bootloader? ... or what? and is it non-recoverable?
I didn't even know what was included in the Stock+Voodoo file. (I got the link/forum topic via Bible).
Your help and input would be much appreciated, and I'd understand if you call me stupid/dumb etc. for over 100 times.
Thanks!
If you're able to reach recovery, there's hope!
Just wrote up a post about getting into DL mode and ODINing to Stock here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319802
Copy/Paste from that thread about getting into DL mode.
1) If not already powered down, power down your phone.
2) Remove the back cover.
3) Remove the battery.
4) Plug your micro USB cable into your computer (Your computer should be on at this time.)
5) (This will take a little dexterity. Enlist help if it proves too difficult on your own.) Hold down both volume keys at the same time.
6) While still holding down the two volume keys, insert your micro usb cable into your phone.
7) While still holding down the two volume keys, insert the battery into your phone.
8) Your screen should now light up with a yellow digging Android that reads "Download Mode"
9) If you did not reach download mode, repeat steps 1 - 7 several times to rule out any user error.
10) If you still cannot enter download mode, remove your SD card and SIM card as well as your battery. Do not re-insert the SD or SIM card when you re-insert your battery in step 7.
11) If you still cannot enter download mode, remove your battery, SD, and SIM card. Wait 24hrs and try again.
12) If you still cannot enter download mode, your phone may require special care, such as a JIG or JTAG. Information on this can be found elsewhere on the XDA forums.
Let us know if you're still unable to reach DL mode!
no your not totally bricked, your process of getting into download may be different depending on the bootloaders you have. Keep trying to get download, odin back to stock, you might pull the battery for 10 minutes to settle.

[Q] bricked

hey guys i have flashed the wrong kernal through mobile oden now there is no recovery and the battery wont charge so it wont let me go into download mode please help
phone is booting?? or completely dead?
did you try this : just remove batery and put back try vol-down+home+Power
if you get downloadmod flash original kernel from ODIN
your phone's battery will still charge even if it's not showing you a green battery, charging is strictly a hardware thing, check if your phone's battery is dead, or if it is your phone it's self that's dead, i'll be refreshing this post to help you further more
bricked
hey well i have a rooted sgs2 which i had miui v4 from galnet miui scotland and i stupidly flashed a (boot img)?kernal with MOBILEodin and when it rebooted it boot looped then it would not go into any recovery but it would go into dl mode i had it on the charger all night nad now when i go into dl mode it say low battery cant download ???
Some solutions
A USB Jigg would likely help you. If you don't have one you can try this method, though haven't tested it on Galaxy S II.
1. Power-Off the Unit
2. Remove the battery
3. Press and hold Volume Down+Home Button+Power Button like what you would normally do to go to Download Mode.
4. While holding those buttons, slowly put the battery in place to power the unit. If you can't do this on your own or having some difficulty, have someone to press those buttons while you put the battery in place or vice-versa. Hopefully this would work, I confirmed this with Galaxy Ace, not sure if this would also work with Galaxy S II.
easy fix, first things first check if you can get into dl mode without it saying that message while it's on charge, if so you can flash a boot img using the PC odin
i recommend you use the old bootloader
OLD BOOTLOADER
NEW BOOTLOADER
fix 1. wipe battery stats from cwm and then fully charge, if you still can't get into cwm read fix 2
fix 2. change battery, see if a friend will loan you one intill you can get your cwm on your phone
if neither of those worked i suggest you using a jig to see what happens
heres the guide to make your own jig

help save my brick!

Hi everybody,
I was on Bionix V Fishman Mod Final Update 3 until yesterday. I then decided to flash CM9 latest nightly rom so I disabled voodoo and flashed it.
The rom worked but I wanted to go back to another rom. I couldn't enter recovery mode through the button combos so I entered with the adb command.
I tried flashing two different roms but I got this error:
Amend scripting (update-script)is no longer supported
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Installation aborted.
Then after a couple of more tries in the recovery I tried reboot the phone but then it got stuck on the first screen, the one that came with GB bootloader I installed a while back.
Download mode doesn't work either. Is there any thing I can do?
Thanks everyone!
hi,
AFAIK you can go back to stock using Odin. Try these steps to go back to download mode.
Open Odin
Pull the battery out
Plug the usb into the computer (dont connect the other end to the phone yet)
Now hold BOTH volume keys (UP + DOWN) and plug the usb to the phone
While pressing volume buttons insert the battery
OR try One-Click Unbrick
You can FIND more about going back to stock [including links] from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13132341#post13132341
tc
I can't enter download mode using that method.
One-Click Unbrick didn't work, It gave a message saying : Is your phone plugged in? is it in download/softbrick mode?....
How do I know if it's soft brick? The only screen I see says: "ANDROID -AdyScorpius-"
Any other ideas?
Do you have samsung USB drivers installed
EDIT: If none of above works Im sure anybody will help you out..
I hope so... thanks anyway haarsh!

Listen to haarsh, he is correct. Just so you know, you do not have to have the Android with the shovel in the download screen to be in "actual" download mode. When you have Odin open and do the steps above, what you are really looking for is that Com: screen to light up Yellow. Then you are in download mode.
FYI, as long as you have power and are at the very least getting to the bootloader screen, you can recover. Just tread lightly bc screwing with the bootloaders is one of the sure-fire ways to HardBrick your device.
woody to the rescue... thnx brother
tc
I tried to do that now and the only response the phone does is show that litle circle of radial lines which means he is charging.
Odin doesn't recognize and the com doesn't light up.
Just curious but what two ROMs did you flash that threw the error in your OP? Were they ICS ROMs or did you try and play it safe and flash Fish's Bionix again?
Keep trying to get into download mode by using the key combo of Volume Up and Power (since you are on GB bl's). You have power so you can get out of it but it might take more than a few tries.
Edit:
***----> I am having all kinds of trouble with my browser today at work, so if I don't respond right quick, that is why. But I'll get back to you or some others out there can help.
OK I got into download mode! as a matter of fact I forgot about this method of just volume up and power and it succeeded the first time.
Thank you very much to the both of you, sorry for all the trouble...
