Very strange.. I've had this phone for over 4 months and I was using the latest villain rom. Everything was working great and last night out of nowhere, the phone signal bars dissapeared and went into the no parking type singh that shows up instead. I didnt think much of it, I thought it was just my carrier (telcel, in mexico) sucking for a few minutes. After a while, nothing changed, I went into airplane mode and tried to go back to regular mode but the phone got stuck in airplane mode.
I erased all data, factory reset, even went back to telcel's stock rom. Reflashhd the original kernel, etc. Nothing.. basicaly, my galaxy s2 just became a mini tablet (because wifi does work)
If I go to settings and mobile networks it tells me the sim card isnt inserted. Which is not true. I still tried to switch to a different sim card to see if that was the problem but that didnt work either.
Is this a fixable problem? Or did my phone die?
Thanks
Looks like your efs partition is messed up. Hopefully you have a backup. There are many threads on here about efs problems.

Can you see your imei?

I don't have any kind of backups for that.. what do you mean?
as for the IMEI, dialing *#06# just shows a blank pop up that says IMEI but I get no number.
Any idea if this is fixable?

The Edge symbol in my Galaxy S2 disappears when the signal is down.
It never reappear when the network signal get back. Even If i change all settings... tried disable/enable "Use packet Data" and other settings...
NO USE! It seemed to be serious and consistent bug.
Hi balavj, maybe a silly question, but are you sure that you are in an area well covered by edge gprs signal?

Signal drops inside a room... when i come out of a room... network signal regains... everything works... data connection symbol does not come back... this is the exact problem... only after reboot... it resolves
Ah I see... Never met these conditions with my phone here, so sorry I can't be of much help.

i am having a similar problem, seems to have happened quite recently for me as previously i had no real issues with it at all.
I keep having to reboot my phone to get a mobile network connection, otherwise the Mobile Network Status shows as connecting all the time...
Very strange
Try other modem, or shove the phone into airplane mode and back again should kick it back onto data.
I have the same problem here...
Tried KE4 (Original), KG7 and KH3 modems e nothing..
Tried many roms too, and nothing, the problem is on all of them...
Data on/off, Airplane mode on/off, nothing gets data working back, only reboot...
Ps.: ROMs tested: Lite'ning, Cognition, Exynos, KE4, KG7.
Kernels: Niphetamine, Jeffrey, Speedmod
SAme here
same here...
Is anyone still experiencing this?
I was having major issues with connectivity, data and calls. I got to the point where i could barely make or receive a call or connect to a mobile data network.
I tried numerous modems and firmware, including original O2 carrier branded firmware, generic firmware and custome ROMs. I found the problem replicating across them all.
I finally settled on Crsikelos ROM (V14) with KE7 modem, however i had previously done a full wipe install of my original O2 firmware (XWKDE i think) and tried a couple of different modems (KH3, KE2 and KE7).
I even tried removing my SD card as i am convinced my sd card is not compatible and is causing issues...
All of a sudden everything started to work again?? I put my SD card back in and left it in, no chance everything was still working. So then i flashed Criskelos Rom and made sure my modem was KE7, that was about a week ago and it's still all good.
TBH i think it may be something to do with O2's network being pants (rather than my SD card )....
Not sure this will help but i thought i'd post my experience for you...
Hope you get it fixed
i have the same problem i.e data loses connection. after a fresh flash of stock rom and factory reset , it starts working fine for a week or so and then the shyt happens again . i can tell u , its not a hardware issue, it more like a software issue.
i m not good at android but wen i used to run squid on a linux machine as a proxy server , i recall i had to clear a log file to make data flow possible every few days. i think android has a similar issues some logs files build up or some **** like that.
After installing MIUI ROM on my galaxy s4 my network has been messed up I tried installing just about every Rom there is for this Phone. I have data and can text people with a little window coming up and saying no network but it still goes Through. I can only get 4 g and no 3g my phone just doesn't have a signal unless it is connected to 4g. I can't make calls at all, I tried a factory reset and it changed my signal to roaming and I have no data and then I use the Samsung Service mode app and click on LTE and I have data again. Also I tried using Odin to flash back to stock and it always gets stuck at getting pit for Mapping. My brother has this phone too and it work perfect for him, but not mine. Please help I'm all out of ideas.
Also I tried changing the Sim 2 times, could it be my efs is messed up.
A screen shot of my status
i even tried fixing it using Samsung service mode
Yesterday I noticed that my phone is no longer able to send or receive phone calls.
It's got a good 4G signal and data works, but the "CDMA (3g) Signal Info" in the Advanced Signal Status application is 0%.
I don't know if that zero CDMA signal is normal if you're on 4G, so maybe this is a red herring.
I'm considering trying to ODIN the MK2 Modem onto it. Any other ideas?
You're probably on LTE only mode use an app like phone info to change the radio bands back to lte/CDMA (prl) auto mode.

Flashing the MK2 modem leaves me at state "No Service". This is not an improvement.
It's now asking me to switch to Global mode.
I tried using "Phone Info",
Network Type is 13 (LTE).
Phone Type is 2 (CDMA).
SIM State is 5 (Ready),
OK, any other ideas?
Damn wish I could help this is a weird one. Do you think you did anything before hand that might have affected it?
Just to be clear, when you go to mobile networks settings your network mode is set to CDMA/LTE?

Yup, it's a strange one.
Network mode is LTE/CDMA.
More data - I just plugged in my UK SIM. It came up, asked me to switch to Global mode, and now shows coverage as AT&T UK, which is what it has done in the past. GSM is apparently working OK. Network is AT&T HSPA, Roaming mode.
Power off, re-insert the Verizon SIM. Service says "Emergency Calls Only" due to Global mode.
Switching to LTE/CDMA gives me an "Attention" box saying "Searching for LTE/CDMA" with OK and Cancel buttons.
Pressed "OK" and now, instead of "No Service" it says "Verizon Wireless".However, still no phone calls in or out.
I just decided to use Safestrap to install Hyperdrive, figuring that if it was something corrupt in the base ROM it'd be obvious.
Unfortunately, no luck - it has the same "No Service" problem, and still can't make or receive calls.
I think I've got broken hardware.
For the record: Factory data reset brought it back to life.
I haven't any idea what did this, but I don't care since it's now working and I don't need to stand in line at the vzw store.

If I'd have seen this a few hours ago, could have saved you some aggravation. I've seen on here before where a factory reset was the only thing that seemed to fix this weird issue. Glad you got it fixed. If I remember correctly that user was messing with their apn settings.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I had a similar (but not the same) situation yesterday, and hope that I can contribute help to anyone in the future using the search function.
I had fully-functional 4G and 3G but could not make/receive calls. I could even text. The phone showed 3 bars of signal, but when I called a number, it went to the circle with the line through it. The message said something like, "Out of network range". (I was right in the heart of my home city).
I rebooted and it said, "invalid PUK"
Anyway, I ended up taking the SIM card out and reinserting it, and the problem was fixed.
I am using the rooted/deodexed international debloated stock 4.3 rom. I wonder if my next step would be to unlock the SIM.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone....and glad to hear that you got your problem fixed!

Did you use Odin?

That should definitely work.

I booted into stock recovery and used that to perform a factory reset.
Forgot about the reset after Odin, thanks-
Unfricken believable this worked, Thank you! I suddenly had the same problem with my S4 from Verizon on MK2 I tried to make calls but I could not get a Dial Tone and it would drop the call all at the same time go to no service mode. It was actually rooted but on stock rom, worked fine for 3 months and all of a sudden I kept dropping signals, rebooting, etc didn't help. I even used Safestrap 3.71 to do a recovery of stock rom to day one stock rom. (When I first got the phone and rooted) AND I did a factory state reset in Safestrap and that did not even fix the problem. I was going to try Odin reset, but I tried the Factory reset using the phone's options by going into "Settings"-->"Accounts"-->"Backup and Reset" and I unchecked data backup and automatic restore as I already had backed up my contacts, etc. using Samsung Kies 3. I just clicked "Factory data reset" and confirmed the options when prompted and after reboot, BAM! everything is working like day one!
My only culprit maybe is that this may have occurred when I tried to do a unlock via Service Mode menu and it screwed up with the Global settings or so and from there it kept asking me if I wanted to switch to global mode. Which it still worked fine for 2 weeks after the service menu mode. What I thought my phone was unlocked, I'm still not sure if the service menu mode method unlocked my phone or not but Factory reset via phone's options works wonders! I was just about to head over to Verizon to help fix my issue.
I have sgs3 international. A few months ago my phone started having down times. By down times mean that the network connection suddenly lost. I get the no signal sign where the reception bar is. It says no service in the status bar and I cant do any network related functions such as calling, sms, recive calls and surf the web. The phone would randomly lose the connection and find it again. The down times started on short perios and get worse with time. Today my phone is mostly down and sometimes get reception. When I reboot when its down and check imei it says null/null. When it has connection the imei is normal. After short use on the phone it gors down again but the imei stays the same but goes to nnull after restart. I tried different operating systems it didnt help. Tried different methods of backing up and restoring efs, didnt help. Also I rwad a lot of no service symptoms but in none of them had the peoblem of random down and up times.
Tried anti virus and nothing was found.
Also I dont know if its relevant but at the beginning my system memory used to fill up during the down times. My hd filled up in 2 days while I didn't use the phone. I reset factory settings to clear thr hd (my system folder would grow until the entire hd was full). After formatting and installing different os. Today only the down time persists and it only get worse.
Please if you ever incountered this or have any info HELP ME!!!
Can anyone please help. I cant dolve this on my own. Am I the only one this happend to? If I have an invalid .nv_data or some other filebwrong in my efs folder would my phone be able to reconnect to the network every once in a while? Are there viruses that block phone communication? If it is a virus what should I look for? A specific file or folder on my phone (my phone is rooted and I have rooted explorer). Has anyone encountered anything like what I describe?
Since this problem happens from time to time, and it is not permanent, I guess that your IMEI number is intact.
Have you tried a different modem?
You could also try an official update of Sammy i.e. if you use 4.1.2, you could upgrade to 4.3 through OTA maybe
the same goes to me, i have similar problem with him, pls help us! :crying:
Hi guys, I have a problem with my RN2. It was working properly two months and today network just broke and after that always says no service. When I go into mobile networks it recognizes sim card, if I go to search mobile network sometime find networks, sometime not and newer want to connect. I was trying different sim card and always show same problem. I also tried several roms without results.
Anybody knows what the problem can be?

I had the same problem like you. Phone show that service is sometimes working, sometimes not. But really iy never worked. I had to copy my IMEI from my backup and now everything works.
If you have backup, check if mobile service works on it.
Always throw this error...
Remove battery, put cable, press ok and back battery.
Also same problem, connect phone, remove battery press ok back battery.
I changed dll in system32...
