After some testing, I found out what the REAL battery killer is. 3G. After I turned off 3G for the whole day since I woke up on a full 100% charge, the phone lasted me the entire day AND has 11% left. Only 11% because I turned on the 3G and hot spotted for a while so my cousin could go online.
Yeah the connections are gonna be hella slow since Android wasn't meant to run on Edge. But hey, gives about 2x+ the battery. Now if only I could find a fix for the camera battery problem. Battery drops like hell when the camera is in use. Wasn't like that in stock rom >:/
3g sucks too much of battery, even if ur nt browsing. I kept my fone for charging overnight. I discharged it 4½ hour ago & nw my battery is 50%. That too i browsed only for ½hour. With data connection off, i can get 1½ day without charging. Even after calibration, same results.

That's not a battery fix. Smartphones are mainly for connectivity. The Ace just happens to have really lousy battery life and we should just suck it up.
Im on EDGE all the time now. The 3G connection on my country isn't that good so I couldn't find a reason to keep it runnin' all day.
FYI, I've managed to squeeze nearly 2 days with this kind of settings (EDGE only + JuiceDefender), which is not bad at all.
I have Galaxy Ace with GingerCrutz2.3 .. battery drains like mad!! but I put cpu in power saver mode and after 3 hours also it will still use only 1% instead of using 1% of battery every 5 mins when its idle

You sure it isn't a misread? I've never completely trusted the battery indicator 100%, as you may know Ace's got a bit of an issue with that.
Despite that, does that condition affects performance? I mean, it has to be but how much?
So I have CM 7.2 with the following settings:
JIT: On
Surface Dithering: Off
SMARTASS Min:245 MHz Max: 864 MHz
3G: On (My carrier only supports 3G).
GPS: Always on due to ESET Mobile Security Anti-Thief feature
All day listening to music on it and battery is still at 20%
I have a question,it is safe we use the phone while charging??

nilzkul did you use an APN rename method? If yes I know where is your problem. When you rename APN the phone will try period to connect to the wrong APN, and this eats you battery. Turn you data packet in the system settings off.

My solution, I unchecked my data and i freeze apps, with root uninstaller, that are always running n task killer can't kill. Its a bit of a hassle but it still better than random charging as its not good for the battery and i m on 2G most of the time, all in all about 20 to 30% more. This way i find SGA last me the same daily usage with my other phs.

Ancient, common misconception/misunderstanding.
This is true around 8 years ago. Today, our Lithium Ion batteries aren't susceptible to those issues.
If you think that your phone is having decreased battery life, then you might need to re-calibrate your battery; I would recommend to calibrate once every month. At least once every six weeks.

Just a week ago i brought a new Samsung galaxy Ace S5830...this is my first Android mobile..overall Speed,Internet is Awesome. But the problem is with battery..
In a day Max to Max for half hour i use Facebook..and lets say 1 hour for Surfing Net..and in a day 2-3 calls of upto 5 minute Max.But still my battery usage details are below
This are my battery usage detail:
Cell Standby - 49%
Phone Idle - 68%
Display - 36%
With this kind of battery usage even after charging Full battery still it somehow manages to work for only 3 hrs Max!!!
i tried to clear Ram Memory bt still no use after clearing ram the battery usage details reduces my some % but strange thing is even if i dont connect to internet still this value again increases from 30 to 70%..
i had also used "NoBars Battery Saver" app but still no change..
tried to Enter this Code *#*#4636#*#* But after i Enter this Code i choosed to Tun off Radio option..but this Stopped me from making calls and receving..so i had to again Turn on Cell Radio button.
So all i want to know is is there any app or any working code.. to Disable Cell radio and improve my battery life or Shall i go for new battery of Lion 1500 mAh
I think you should use juice defender... Use it in customized mode & disable the schedule part in it... Also keep the brightness to its lowest...
One more thing in location & security settings disable the first 2 options... This should solve your problem to quite an extent.. If not then you have go to samsung service centre...

I just want keep my phone clean (less apps, doing something, then you get less PROBLEMS) and install ONLY needed apps. You can MOSTLY configure your phone options from PHONE MENU it self. Just look them precisely and you be GOOD(of course not ALL options, but most of them, what you need).

*Lower ur display brightness (very imp)
*Upgrade to 2.3.3 + Rom
*Turn off wifi and b/t when not in use
* Turn off wifi locator
*Root It
*Stop backgorunds app (kill autoruns)

I think the apn widget is the manual version of juice defender.
Juice defender switches off the connectivity automatically when you lock the screen where as you hav to do manually in case of apn widget.

Hi there.
So I flashed Cyanogenmod7 to my Optimus One
I'm very happy with it, however, there's a problem
On official froyo and 2.3.3 official gingerbread, i had the data connection ON and wifi on,too. So whenever I left the house, it would switch to data. And it wasn't on 2g,it was on HSDPA. Anyway, the battery consumption was barely noticeable, especially in standby mode.
However, if i do the same thing now, on CM, the battery drain is enormous
Wifi does not consume a lot, but whenever it switches to mobile data, the battery consumption is 10% / HOUR in IDLE mode, using the Smartass governor 245-600MHz, making the phone useless. And this is the consumption in standby mode...when I use it it's a lot worse. This problem makes me unable to use the mobile internet without returning home with a dead phone.
Is there a fix for this? Does anyone have the same problem?
Yes, i have the latest version of CM7, for my model,p500. Is it because of the old baseband?
Thanks in advance for any help
i encountered this for the first few days when i flashed to CM7 too
battery drop so quickly even when its at standby mode for 8 straight hours.
but after using for weeks, the battery begun to last longer, can last up to 2 days with light usage (some texting and tweeting)
im getting minimum of 4 days battery on cm7 -.-
Try this
1. Charge your battery to 100 percent.
2. Reboot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
3. Completely discharge the phone till the state it switches off.
4. Charge again.
Maybe it will help.

@OP: Which CM7 version? What kernel?
This is not usual.
I'm getting few days with CM7. Try calibrating the battery with Battery Calibrator from the market.
I already calibrated with the app from the Market
Charged to 100% ,Calibrated, discharged to 0%,then fully charged.
I did this twice.i dont think this is the problem.
I did a test :
Yesterday, when I first saw the problem,i had data enabled.I got 10 hours of battery life with the phone Idle (locked, yes.)
Today, i didn't enable data.I had 99% battery after 2 hours of idling. I guess that's normal.
So, i already know the problem. the data connection does this to the battery, but why?... as i said, when I was using the official froyo and gingerbread,i had both data and wifi enabled and i had absolutely no problem with battery drain...

This is called battery calibration.Whenever u flash a new rom,u need to calibrate ur battery so that it wont show u the stats of ur previous rom.If u dont wipe battery stats, sometimes the phone may switch off fue to low power at 15-20% or strange things like virtual increase in battery % by 2-3 %.So it is required to wipe battery stats,so after booting the phone,a new battery stats file is created and it wont give false info.

There's no need to completely discharge a Li-ion battery, it can in fact damage the battery.
Proper steps:
1. Charge your battery to 100 percent.
2. With phone still plugged in, reboot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
3. Reboot phone
4. Wait for phone to completely boot up then unplug.
5. Calibration complete

I read something about the older versions (official ones) of the firmware using something called NETMGRD to reduce the battery drain caused by the APN being on..
what do you guys think about this?
And also, since you asked about the kernel :

That's pretty outdated kernel. Flash a new one.
I get good battery life using the 2x Battery program that cuts off the 3G data when the screen is off and opens it at a set time (every 30 mins on mine) to check for email etc instead of constantly when the screen is off.
One of your major killers i see is the constant WiFi, with it and GPS if your not actively using them turn them off.
---------- Post added at 08:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:47 PM ----------
Forgot to add, the rule of thumb is anything that uses a hardware component uses battery power.
GPS
Wifi
Cell Radio (2g,3g,Phone)
Screen
Vibrate motor
Speaker
It takes power to make those work so the less you use some of them the longer the battery lasts.
Anyone that drives at night knows the effect of turning on the wipers, the radio, the lights and the blower fan on high to clear off the windshield and seeing the voltage gauge lowering from the heavy voltage draw.
Hey guys,
I have a new and not modified (not root, default ROM) Ace and I think the battery status is not working properly. When the battery is being drained, the battery status goes like 100%,99%,98%,... just like it should I think, than it freezes let's say on 80%, it shows this 80% for couple of hours even when the phone is being used a lot (wi-fi, gps, watching some stuff), after this couple of hours it goes straight to 60% or something within a moment, than it works again like 60%,59%,58%,... than it get freezed on same % for couple of hours again... and so on... I wonder if this is just how the Ace or Android works, or there is something wrong with phone refreshing/getting the battery information ?
You reminded me This Post ...
Anyway... If you add all those "couple of hours" I think you have such a great battery performance!!!
The battery life is not that bad indeed but I find useful to know whether the battery is 40% or 20% when it shows 40%

Don't talk without knowing what you're saying. As desperate as he is, making a joke would lead to him taking it seriously.
Anyway, calibrate your battery by CWM or just let your phone charge to 100% full. When it SAYS 100%, it doesn't mean it. Leave it charging for about 1 more hour after it says 100%.

You need to see how long it actually lasts, mine goes down to 80 % in the first 1/2 hr of 3g use then stays there for a while, but in the end i can have it last for 17 hrs with pretty high usage. Try and see! And remember battery is fully charged when in settings/info/ status is displayed "charged"

mine only get 8-10hrs normal usage. go down to 80% fast, slower down to 40%, and 20%, but much much slower down from 15% to 5%.
touchdown sync every 4 hrs, internet browsing, whatsapp, twitter.
on the battery use, its always cell standby, phone idle, and display take top three.
you can save the battery for about 24hrs when you use 2G only. with 3G, i don't think so. (I haven't tried this tweak http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436367 ).
Try charge to full 100% with the phone on...about - status say full
Power off, enter cwm recovery not while phone on enter cwm manager, use the home+power button method
Wipe battery stats, power on the phone (usually battery now 95-97%) then charge it to full 100% again...unplug n enjoy
I get 17 hour with this method with heavy usage...

doesn't work for my ACE.
when phone ON, I charge it until 100%. then I turn off the phone, and keep charge it until it say FULLY CHARGE. go to CWM, and wipe battery status.
my ACE's battery still run for 8-10hrs only.
or may be my battery need to be replaced with the new one...
You don't have to wipe battery stats every time... after deleting them you have to do some full charge/full discharge cycles. If you don't do this the calibration won't be useful.

Hi all, after a lots of pots from a lots of users claiming their battery is great or their battery is ok and even that their battery is a crap... I decided to open this thread to share my opinion with you all and see how many of you think like me.
Here it comes:
For me, BATTERY LIFE is how GOOD-OK-BAD our battery behaves and how much it lasts WHILE USING THE PHONE.
Having looooong periods of deep sleep is just the Stand-By 640hrs that Samsung itself offers with its ACE.
Under heavy use, ACE is supposed to last at least 11hrs using 2g and 6hrs using 3g.
Me just quoting Samsung and GSM ARENA

If you do the math, most of the people that claim to have a HUGE battery life have their phones on DEEP SLEEP (Stand By) MOST OF THE TIME, plus they don't use 3g but WI-FI.
So, when they say: HEY BRO, I unplugged my phone 1 day ago and my battery is still at 30% and then they put a graphic on it you can see that about 20 hours the phone have been deep sleeping. Then you use it and PUFFF!!! A huge percent down...
I don't know if you know what I mean, english is not my first languaje... But what I'm trying to say is...
Battery life is most of the times the same WHEN USING THE PHONE!
Dude stop worrying too much abt battery... Simple battery rule. Charge it when its less than 20%... Let it drain by its own.. Then charge again... There s something called life explore it...
WOW!! What a superb reply... Great, wonderful, splendid...
You're so wise... OMG I can't even believe you took time to reply my request... Thank you Oh Lord!!!
Sigh!
My battery drains so fast on my home wi-fi I tend to browse whilst charging for most of the time (I'm sure it's not recommended). Wish I knew where people get the improved stats for wi-fi over 2g/3g from.
Of course samsung is gonna claim great battery life, they have to sell.
On my experience, i use the phone constantly with 3g for whatsapp and music all the time. I still charge it every night and thats ok. Its a smartphone, a micro computer. Unplugg your lap top and see how long it lasts! If you cannot get a day of battery, youre using your phone too much. The biggest battery hog is your screen, turn it off when not using, lower brightness, dont use 3g and 2g at the same time. Otherwise, get a stupidphone and marvel at your 5 day battery life.

The point about WiFi/3G/2G and battery stats is that if the phone isn't having to work hard to get its connection then it won't drain so much battery. So for example, I have almost no 3G coverage and no WiFi hotspot for miles, urgo if I have them both on the phone will search hard for them and drain battery. I have only 2G allowed and that works for me.
Technically if I had a WI-FI hotspot I should use that because it should provide better coverage than either 2G or 3G, and so the phone won't have to work so hard to get connectivity.
How strong is the signal for your WI-FI, is it very changeable?
I sit about 2m below it and it locks in seconds, varies between 2 and 3 bars on indication. Perceived drain is battery falls from 100% to charge warning in 3 - 4hrs approx.

Data switches off automatically when you are connected to the internet thru wi-fi!
my ace drains battery fastest when i play games, when playing any game 10-15 minutes my battery drains for like 10%
i have good battery life ,,about 36hours when using wifi
the problem of my battery life only happens when the phone is on. I've tried turning it off for a few days and the battery held up too long. So my advice for the battery last long, its always keep the phone off, and use it to shoot on someone's head (devs?). You may even withdraw the battery, lasts longer without recharging.
I suggest that someone makes a rom that doesnt work and keep the phone off, and we will have long battery life
Please hit tanks if I didnt help you
What you just said defies the actual purpose for which the phones were built.

You do know what sarcasm is, right?
Battery on Ace just sucks. It's that simple. If you can't accept that, then it's time to get a newer phone.

Battery on ace sucks. Everyone knows that. But it is pointless keeping it off. If you're free, make use of it ! And BTW, even a boot drains its battery such an ill fate.

I knew. But someone seemed to be really worried

In my case, I've had the best battery life duration with StockRom Lite, AceOne (this seems to fly in my phone).
The AceOne rom seems to "survive" between 16- 18 hours in my chase listening music, checking some emails with 3G (not 16 hours, time by time).
I've installed a rom made by Nathan (TouchWiz) and I was worried about the battery's duration, but since I've installed nims kernel it works better, I'm gonna view how it works
