When you install an application you get an icon you can place wherever you want.
The problem is that when I reboot, some icons always appear at the end of the last panel, like when the app was installed for the first time.
I've tried reinstalling, unistalling + deleting cache partition and delviks chace + installing, and whatever I thought It could help like "fixing permisions" in xrecovery.
I'm sure this is not an application problem, because I got it once and when I updated the phone (flashed a newer rom version) it fixed. The problem is I don't want to reflash the phone.
So what can I do? What file stores the apps icons position?
Thank you!
Hi, I'm using galaxy S2 and experiences the same problem.
rather discuss in this thread than open a new thread as it seems the same issue (android not phone)
anyone can help?
(I don't have an SD card, cuz I've searched and seen discussions about apps moved to SD card will make their icons run around)
I have a rooted NT and GO Launcher v2.65 running with little to no problem except that everytime I reboot any widgets I have added report back:
"Problem loading widget"
None of the apps are loaded on the SD-Card. I've tried a clean install with a reroot with nothing done except Go Launcher and a gapp or two to test the widgets but still get the error. Am I the only one?
On a side note after I rooted I didn't have to search for the Go app link anymore it just accepts the default setting.
Thanks in advance.
***edit***
I reinstalled the launcher but didn't set it to the default and that appeared to have worked but once i set it to default the problem started again.

That sounds more like a problem with version of Go Launcher... Try a 2.5x version and see.
Thanks for the suggestion. I downgraded to 2.53 and so far so good.

I was having the same problem. I downgraded to version 2.63 and my widgets now work fine.
2.53 was missing some features i liked in v2.6x
Edit. Nvm 2.63 is failing too now....

It's not Go Launcher. I have the same problem with Launcher Pro and ADW.
It's got something to do with the Nook.
Version 2.66 just cameout, alot of widget fixes in it. Might be worth updating to it and testing.
I just installed the update and now my widgets are there after a reboot.
Im usin 2.66 now with no problems. Thanks!
I updated to 2.66 but widgets are still screwed up after a reboot.

Same here. Seems that this is a problem if you make go launcher your default launcher (using homecatcher).

Thanks, uninstalling homecatcher fixed the problem. Widget issues have been driving me nuts.
I had the widgets not loading issue until I applied the 160dpi fixes listed in the GApps thread here.
This was the only change I made to my system, and right after it no widget problem, so I'm guessing it was the fix.
I'm using GoLauncher 2.66 and Homecatcher.
Do location based apps work now also?

I unsinstalled homecatcher but now the "n" button will only take me to the stock launcher. Go Launcher is set as my default launcher, but it doesn't seem to care.
Possible workaround.
So this seems to have worked for me on my Nook Tablet. Using Go Launcher 2.66 and Home Catcher to re-purpose the "n" button. Go Launcher is set as default upon boot, and upon hitting the "n" button. The 160 dpi fix mentioned above didn't work for me, and I was having this issue on all 2.65 and 2.66 of Go Launcher. This workaround seems to have fixed it for me. I got the initial idea from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360036
Using Root Explorer or similar tool move your alternate launcher APK from /data/app to /system/app. Change the permissions to 777 (all 3 rows checked in root explorer). Then restart, and you should be good. I have restarted numerous times now, and had no widget problems.
Step-by-Step Directions:
Open Root Explorer
Browse to /system
Click Mount R/W button
Navigate to /data/app
Long Press launcher APK file (for me it was com.gau/go/launcherex-1.apk)
Choose Move
Navigate to /system/app
Press Paste button
Long Press freshly pasted APK file
Choose Permissions
Check all the top 9 checkboxes (Read, Write, Execute for Owner, Group, Others), leave all others as they are.
Press OK
Navigate to /system
Press Mount R/O button
Restart Nook
Usual at your own risk disclaimer applies.
Thanks ffwalrus! That worked!

Nice! I wonder though if just changing the file permissions in place (in data/app) would achieve the same thing? The thing I'm curious about is how will an update affect the location change.

I am really not sure. I think its more about the order they are loaded than the permission settings themselves. I will try with Go Launcher 2.65, and see if I can update to 2.66 and report back.
Thanks ffwalrus, works great!

Do you have the ability to do adb, or use terminal emulator?
If so re root your device, by runing NookandZergy.bat.

Here's some steps I posted on someone elses topic. I know you said you did the reset but give it a shot:
If it comes to it, power down, hold power and 'n' and it'll turn on, then come to the black background with the n logo then power off. Release just the power button and press and hold again for 7 more times.
On the 9th time just use the power button to turn it on and it'll prompt you with some warnings. Follow through with the continue and it will perform the steps.
BE WARNED: this will perform a complete factory restore so any installed apps will be gone but it won't touch your SD card.

Use this method.
Just turn off the nook tablet, and start it by holding the power and N button. Continue to hold and you will note that the tablet turns on then off. Do this 8 times, and you will be promped for a full factory reset.

I posted the [How-to] Quick Access to Nook Tablet's FACTORY RESET Screen in both the General and Development sections of these forums just for these types of situations... a search would have netted you the link. Following that guide will get you back to stock.

I can see the Apps. that came with my NT...From time to time I get the following error msg.: "The application Honeycomb Launcher (process mobi.SyndicateApps.HCL) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"...
Any idea as to what is causing the above msg. and why pressing the "n" button is not allowing me to switch launchers?...I have other questions(e.g.; weather widget not working, how to move files around from-to SD card, etc..,..), but wanted to get past this issue first...Your help is greatly appreciated...

there have been reports of honeycomb launcher force closing a lot. that is according to reviews from the android market...
the only suggestion i can give you is to move the honeycomb launcher apk to system/app if it is not there already
after that go to the tgps launcher and manage apps, try clearing data and cache for honeycomb launcher and reboot. hopefully after that you won't experience any more force closes for a while.
+1 I tried hcl a little and experienced issues so went to adw launcher ex. Much better, imho.

Do you know if you're using a modified SystemUI.apk? It sounds like you might be. There is one (that was not made when those videos were made) that removes the little B&N popup menu entirely. If you want that, you might need to revert to the stock SystemUI.apk.
The Home Switcher app will allow you to change your home button functionality as you like.
ENJOY!
Thank you all for your quick response...Much appreciate it...I apologize, but being a nubie & not that familiar with the terminologies I need some direction...
I recall that the last question during the rooting process had a reference to the
SystemUI.apk & required a Y or N response...I don't recall what I replied(Y or N)...Getting a little confused with the different options...
1- How do u move the HCL apk -> system/app?...
2- Why move the HCL apk -> system/app?...
3- How to access tgps launcher and manage apps, clearing data and cache for
HCL...
4- Should the HCL be uninstalled after performing the above followed by the
ADW Launcher EX install?...
5- Can I download(install) the ADW Launcher EX from the Android market?...
6. Once the ADW Launcher EX is installed how do I flip-flop between B&N
& ADW launcher?...
I read somewhere that to get rid of Honeycomb Launcher u can go to the Android Market > My Apps and click on HCL Launcher and then Uninstall...
And something about moving it 1st to /system/app rather than /data/app(???)...With all the choices getting confused with the proper course of action...Again, I would appreciate instructions for the best/quickest(safest) approach to correct this issue...
I really appreciate your willingness to help, not to mention that this is a learning experience for me and(hopefully) I will be able to help others as a result...
Many thanks...

I think some believe this improves stability. However it prevents the market from updating the app. I use ADW EX and have not moved it and don't have any issues. I think HCL is pretty buggy (as has been stated above).

Hit the THANKS button for those that have helped you [there are a few here] and to be honest, you're making this whole thing way more complicated than it needs to be. You really should learn how to use the XDA Forum SEARCH function more effectively so that you get better results for what it is that you're trying to do. As well, don't just hop on the first thing you find and try it without reading as much as possible about what it is that you're attempting to do. Also try to find corroborating information for that which you are attempting before attempting. Since you're new here, it can be a bit daunting but if you put a little effort into it, you'll find a lot of info and many people that will help you accordingly.
And Welcome to XDA Forums!

If you want to keep the stock behavior (i.e. the little popup menu that would allow you to access the stock home), DO NOT let N&Z install a new SystemUI.apk. You want the stock one.
sounds like you are on barnes and noble home screen and cant change back. you can install anycut to access menu again to force change between launcher, or download a new launcher from the internet and this will force the choice again... or download the hijack adb app and use it to patch with nook zergy to install a new launcher... or download my sd card image file and it has all the apps there to install from... got videos on many of these things on my you tube channel... however, if you have removed the N menu and set barnes and noble home screen to your default launcher, you may not have access to a method to install another launcher except to manualy push it over using ADB and a usb cable. If you ar at this point and not comfortable with command prompts, then I would just do 8 factory restore and start over with the SD card I made... I even made a video of how to recover a failed root process with the sd card. it has all the files you need so you dont have to go all over looking for them.

Thank you albertwertz for the feedback...I decided to unroot/re-root and followed ckevinwelch' suggestion, i.e., did *NOT* let N&Z install a new SystemUI.apk. & keep the stock behavior...After rebooting my NT & selecting HomeCatcher & ADW launcher as default I can now bring up B&N's stock menu...I also got the weather widget to work properly(failing when running with HoneyComb launcher)...I really appreciate the time+patience you've put into helping me along...
I've also launched tgps_launcher to familiarize myself with the settings...One thing I noticed is that Auto Mount is flagged under Development, should it be(I recall I had to un-check it during the rooting process)?...
I did some navigating to familiarize myself with the settings, options,etc.,..
I also downloaded/installed/opened a game(Solitaire) to gauge the size of mem/storage utilized...I went back to tgps_launcher to get a list of the running Apps...I noticed that the Solitaire game was listed under the "On SD card" tab, however I didn't have an SD card installed at the time(box to the right was unchecked)?????????...
I stopped Solitaire, went back to my list of Apps & noticed that the Solitaire icon switched to the android icon...I tried opening it, but got some sort of error stating that it couldn't be opened so I ended up un-installing/re-installing...How do I determine if an Apps. is closed(not running) and what's the correct way to stop it and re-claim used memory/storage?...How do I move stuff around between data <-> system files?...
Again, many thanks(trying to get all my questions in as I learn more about this conversion)...
Hi all,
I've sort of bricked my new razr this morining after a reboot...
after reading the thread about trebuchet, I saw that it is adviced to put it in the system folder of the ROM. I then did the same with my current launcher to improve the speed of it (I don't know at all if this is a good solution but I wanted to test anyway).
Problem now is that my launcher force close at phone boot with a basic message saying that the launcher has stopped and a single 'ok' button. when I press 'ok' the same message appear again after a few milli seconds and does not allow me to launch any task.
Then I guess that the only solution for me is to re-upload my ROM (Motorola Razr latest OTA) and that this will suppress my launcher in the system folder but I wanted to share this experience because maybe someone could know a good solution.
Thanks for your help!
Can you go into system settings before boot and just change the launcher? Possible like this
go home, menu, settings, applications, manage applications, running, scroll down to find ADW launcher, open, scroll down and click clear defaults. then when you go home, it should give you a choice to pick your desired launcher. Be sure to check the box on the bottom of the choice box to set your default launcher to your desired choice.
Actually, the launcher started to crash before the system gave me the hand and allowed me to do anything. No way to perform any action with the phone (not any action, nothing was possible under the ROM itself)
Then I finally found some time to get my computer and re-upload the official ICS OTA ROM of the Razr. It had done basically 2 things (and one was the one I was expecting or hoping): lose the root (obviously) and lose the settings of the 2 apps I putted under the phone /system folder.
After that I removed the 2 apps that were installed on /system and changed my default launcher to stay safe :fingers-crossed: (done today, that's why I came back to the thread now)
Everything is ok now.
BTW, I discovered that in the worst case, it is possible to do a full wipe / factory reset under the official / native Razr recovery, and even better, it is possible to install a ROM under this recovery.
Everything is under control at the end.
Thanks for your answer!
Hi there
Has anyone any idea, why all the apps, which I moved to SD Card, disappear from homescreen after restarting the device?
I'm still on Galaxy S2 i9100 and just have flashed it from and old OMEGA ROM to the newest Cyanogen MOD:
[ROM][I9100][5.1.1][OFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 12.1 Nightly Builds
Thanks
Seth
I also notice the problem at some ROMs. I don't know exactly where the problem is; probably the default launcher initialized before system mount the external sdcard.
Try to move such apps to the phone, then put it back in to sdcard. Reboot and see if the problem gone. If still persist, try with another launcher from play store.
Hope this help.
You could try to restart the launcher. Go to apps--> trebuchet and force close/stop it. Then press home and see if the icons appear. Hope this helps.
Hi Guys
Thanks you so much for your help.
Devaz01 had the solution. I Installed the launcher program named nova. After that the Icons we'nt removed after start up
