Does anyone know how to assign a phone number to the Fascinate. My phone has no service and I am using GrooveIp to make and receive phone calls on WIFI using my Google Voice number. I am unable to install Google voice to handle texts since the Google Voice number does not show up in the phone....
You have to add a phone number from the google voice website. It could be any number, home phone, friend's phone, make sure the number you add has service cause google voice will call it with a verification number. Once you verify the number on the website make sure you disable it so that when people call you it does not forward to that phone, keep it on google chat so groove ip continues to work. Then when you go to the voice app it will list the number you verified, select it and you will have a few options based on what you want the voice app to do for calls, I usually "put do not use voice for calls" skip the voicemail part and you should be able to receive text and voicemail messages with the app. Hope this helps!

Greetings, I am a newbie who recently got the X10 mini which I love, but I have had days of troubles trying to get Nimbizz and Google Voice configured to make free calls. An awesome developer named "fishsticksfromguam" made this program called "Advanced GV Caller" which I purchased, and could not get to work. I followed all of his helpful instructions, but it still will not work properly. Is anyone else having these problems or can anyone give advice?
The errors I get are:
With A.GV Dialer: it says GV is calling my phone and either the phone call just doesn't go through, or it says that my GV number is not set for callbacks. Since GV does not have a callback number, I don't get it.
Nimbizz: either goes black and freezes and I have to restart my phone, or it says, Nimbizz is not responding, force quit?
Then when I sign back in, it shows that my Skype account under Nimbizz is offline, whereas just a minute before it was online and I was able to make calls.
Also, when Skype is working, I can call out, but I cannot get any incoming calls.
Or it says, Activity Phone (in process.com.android.phone) is not responding, force close.
My Gizmo5 account is set up properly and my Google Voice phone number has been verified by the developer himself. I sincerely recommend fishsticksfromguam's programs as he goes out of his way to help.
Below are the instructions that I have followed:
1. Login in Gizmo5 and under the "FORWARDING" tab, select the option
"Forward All Calls", and enter your gtalk email address, hit save and log out.
2. On my Desktop computer, I start the official Google Talk client.
3. Login to Google Voice and under Settings menu, I added a new Phone
with my Gizmo5 telephone number and I selected "GIZMO" as the phone
type.
4. Google will now attempt to call your Gizmo5 number to verify it.
Since you've forwarded ALL Gizmo5 calls to your gTalk, it will come in
on your Google Talk Client where you can now answer the call and verify it!
*** YOU HAVE NOW VERIFIED YOUR GIZMO5 NUMBER ***
5. Install Nimbuzz (or Fring) on your Android phone, and ensure your
Google Talk is set up properly to receive voice calls.
6. Install Google Voice Call Advanced, enter your Google Voice
Username & Password, and for the Callback number, enter your full
Gizmo5 callback number (ie. 17475551212), and select "GIZMO5" as the
phone type. Select "Use GV for all calls". Hit Apply.
*** You should now be able to make FREE phone calls using your Android Phone ***

a few months ago I remember hearing something that t mobile was working on a application that would allow us to make unlimited calls at home under wifi...
I have not heard anything about this since, but are there other applications that can do this?
I have tried the goggle voice thing but I can't get it to work..

The google voice app doesnt let you make calls over wifi..it reroutes your number to your google one and makes the call still costing you minutes etc. But you can text for free through it. If you want to make free calls over 3g, wifi. A setup I found working for me...was sipgate, google voice call back app, and sipdroid app. You can receive free inbound/and make free outbound calls through 3g/wifi. The quality..from my experience is not too bad , but the person on other end of line might experience echoing thats about it. Also can take a bit of drain on battery. If you help setting it up let me know.
Tim here are the steps...figured it would probably help others that are curious also. This is the setup that worked for me..its somewhat of a lengthy process. To make it easier...keep open the Sipgate and google voice pages.
1)Before we start do you have a google voice account..if yes go to step 2 if not go to the google voice homepage and sign up for a free number.
2) go to sipgate.com sign up for a free account (you will have to give your cellnumber to recieve a key to confirm your new free account). You can remove your cell number from the settings page later.(You can choose to install their softphone software now or later doesn't really matter)
3) Once you recieve your free number from sipgate..(it will be a random number from california) go to the settings page copy the number sipgate given you , navigate to go google voice and add the sipgate number as the number google voice forwards to. Also make sure the number is set as a home number.
4) You will have to verify that number..with google voice..this when you will have to install the softphone software by sipgate. Have google voice call your sipgate number..and through the softphone dial paid just hit the 2 digit number given by google voice to confirm the sipgate number. (You can removed the sipgate software from your computer now)
5) The software i use to make outbound or receive calls..is sipdroid and gvoice callback which are both located in the marketplace and free. Download them both. There are other alternatives , but these are the two programs i used.
6) Once you installed both apps...open up sipdroid go to the settings-> sip account settings... now navigate back to sipgate settings page move your mouse cursor over the voip phone icon and click on credentials. Look at sipdroid now..and input the sip ID provided by sipgate as your authorization name in sipdroid ,the password, and the server is sipgate.com
7. Once you input everything.. sipdroid should register and you should see a green dot in your notification bar. Now open up Gvoice callback put your google voice account details in and put your callback number...as your sipgate number. For the callback setting you can set it as always..or ask it doesnt matter ...up to you. That should be it. ( I have mine to ask)
8. To test if you set up everything correctly turn on wifi...and put your phone into airplane mode. make a call ...there should be a prompt to make the call through gvoice callback once you make the call the sipdroid dialer will come up..and you will receive an incoming call from your sipgate number..just slide your finger up accept call and google voice will connect you to your actual call.
As for receiving calls your contacts will have to dial your google number and sipdroid has to be running to pick up the call. Once you accept the incoming call hit 1 on the dialpad and your connected with the other person on the other line.
*Another tip..to make sure you have everything setup correctly is..sipgate gives you 60 free minutes to make outbound calls..you should only use a minute or 2 confirming the number with google...if you notice your mins going down then you probably messed up somewhere.*
From my experience the call quality...is decent there is minor echoing that can be heard only by the person on the other end..but hey its free. You can also make calls of over 3g. Be sure to turn off sipdroid when you are not going to rly use it because..it can take a drain on the battery as it ..constantly registers itself. I read that you can setup pbxes..to route your inbound and outbound calls..which can help call quality and battery life as its tcp instead of udp , but it was too confusing for me to figure out.

I've been using fusion voicemail and really liked how it transfered my voicemail into writing. Unfortunatly my trial is up. What other free ones are out there?
Check out Google voice. In addition to the awesome number forwarding features you can use it just as a voicemail service. Transcriptions included.
I just downloaded google voice, but I cant seem to get it setup so it takes my messages. my calls keep going to my stock voicemail.
You have to set up call forwarding with your cell provider. Try going to the voice website, voice.google.com for a guide on how to get everything set up.
I'm using an off brand phone with Google Voice. When I make calls outgoing, the native dialer shows the GV forwarding number and not the destination number.
Because it's off brand, some of the solutions in the market come up as "incompatible".
Are there any replacement dialers that use Google Voice correctly?
So I have google voice set up for my voicemail. I noticed that this has not been working. I had to reset up my phone and then it stopped working again. It looks like when they phone is set to forward my calls to my watch, it disables google voice forwarding and my att voicemail program then pics up. I was wondering if any one knows how I can get this working again.
I went and removed my phone from google voice and then reactivated it but once my phone starts to forward me calls it no longer works.
Just wanted to see what other google voice users are doing.
They both use the same entry for your phone line: conditional forwarding. So, you can only have one at any time. When you setup auto-forwarding, it will change the conditional forwarding to Gear S number and when it no longer need forwarding, it resets which will be back to your network default that is your voice mail number.
I set up my gear s # as an additional phone in Google voice and had t-mobile turn off voice mail for it, that way I don't need to worry about calls forwarding.
I don't use my Google voice number as my main number so I like the forwarding set up. I wonder if I can have my voicemail number changed on my phone to my Google voice number.

Go to the google voice web site & look in settings under that number. It should say "activate voicemail" and it'll give you a code to dial on the phone. It's something like *444*YOURNUMBER*# or something like that. But the gear forwarding will always disable GV when it's enabled.

Ya thats the problem im am running into. I may call att to see if there is something else we can do to fix this.

The only other thing i can think of is using the short code to set your watch to use google voicemail so your phone would forward to the watch & the watch would forward to GV if you missed it on the watch. It's just a thought but I'm waiting to use gear forwarding for that reason so lemme know if you find a setup that works.
One option is to turn off all forwarding in the watch and phone, then set up both the watch and phone normally in Google Voice.
All calls will be sent to both the phone's number and the watch's number. For whatever reason, the phone tends to ring at least 3 or 4 seconds before the watch rings, so there's no problem with multiple ringing devices. If neither the phone or watch are answered, the call will go to Google Voice voicemail.
Also, within Google Voice Settings / Phone, click "Activate Google voicemail on this phone" and dial the number string indicated. You'll have to do this twice, once through the phone, and again through the watch. An important note is that the phone needs to be disconnected from the watch when you dial the code through the watch.
The easiest method is just to put the phone into airplane mode before dialing the number from the watch.
