I'm using an off brand phone with Google Voice. When I make calls outgoing, the native dialer shows the GV forwarding number and not the destination number.
Because it's off brand, some of the solutions in the market come up as "incompatible".
Are there any replacement dialers that use Google Voice correctly?

I've been using fusion voicemail and really liked how it transfered my voicemail into writing. Unfortunatly my trial is up. What other free ones are out there?
Check out Google voice. In addition to the awesome number forwarding features you can use it just as a voicemail service. Transcriptions included.
I just downloaded google voice, but I cant seem to get it setup so it takes my messages. my calls keep going to my stock voicemail.
You have to set up call forwarding with your cell provider. Try going to the voice website, voice.google.com for a guide on how to get everything set up.
i noticed on Google's website, it shows a google voice call being made over the normal dialpad w/ some Voice splash on the screen.
I am using CM7 and there is no splash visible and no indication if voice is even working. Does anyone else here use it and on a Sense or AOSP ROM?
Works fine on sense. You press one to answer calls made to you on your google voice number and i have it set up to ask me if i want to use google voice when i make my calls or not

It doesn't matter what you use, sense or aosp, google voice works. You can make voice calls through google voice from your desktop (the screenshot I think you're referring to). On the phone, the google voice application allows you set it to make all calls using google voice.
Here's the caveat. Calls through google voice from your cellphone use the actual cell connection. It first dials the gvoice call center, and then routes to the number you dialed. If the gvoice call center's phone # is in your 'calling circle' or whatever, it's all free minutes.
It sounds more like you want to do VoiP...replacing skype, or fring. Make voice calls over your data connection, am I right? If that's the case, grooveIP has REALLY impressed me. It connects to your google voice account, and makes calls using the same voip interface as the desktop screenshot thingy (calls from the desktop browser).
That, or a complicated set up involving SIPdroid, sipsorcery, gvoice, and a 3rd party SIP service (there's a few free ones).
Does anyone know how to assign a phone number to the Fascinate. My phone has no service and I am using GrooveIp to make and receive phone calls on WIFI using my Google Voice number. I am unable to install Google voice to handle texts since the Google Voice number does not show up in the phone....
You have to add a phone number from the google voice website. It could be any number, home phone, friend's phone, make sure the number you add has service cause google voice will call it with a verification number. Once you verify the number on the website make sure you disable it so that when people call you it does not forward to that phone, keep it on google chat so groove ip continues to work. Then when you go to the voice app it will list the number you verified, select it and you will have a few options based on what you want the voice app to do for calls, I usually "put do not use voice for calls" skip the voicemail part and you should be able to receive text and voicemail messages with the app. Hope this helps!
Does anyone have experience using Google Voice without a data plan? My sister just bought a phone to use with Page Plus, and is porting her number to Google Voice.
Do calls work correctly without data? I read a while back that Google implemented a feature in the Google Voice app that downloads the direct access numbers for all of your contacts when you first install the app. How does it handle new numbers that you dial?
Is there a good way to text people without saving their Google Voice "proxy" number, and still have it come from your Google Voice number, without using data?
I use Sipdroid with Google Voice on my tablet.
Inbound and outbound calls over WIFI work pretty well for me. I just dial regular phone numbers.
I've never really used texting with Google Voice.
google voice pay as you go no data plane
Does anyone have recommendation on how to set this up to play somewhat reasonable all together.
I know functionality will be limited when no Wi-Fi is available but......
Text >GV>T-mob carrier>my phone
Call>GV>answer
- yes>got the call
-no> be able to see voice mail notification an call to check the voice mail
Hey guys,
I'd like to ask you if anyone is using the google voice as it's main voicemail provider? I've installed the google voice app, however I'm unable to switch from the verizon voicemail to google voice. Is this the same thing like the hotspot, i.e. locked to verizon?
I've tried also to change settings manually by going to contacts > settings > voicemail service. The error that I get is
forwarding number change unsuccessful. Please contact your carrier if this problem persist

Anyone that's not on verizon that's using google voice with no problems?
thank you,
I use it with no problem. You can get your google voice number by logging in to google in a browser and clicking on voice in the more section. You will see your google voice number. Dial *71 and that number to forward your voicemail to that number. *73 will undo that change if you need to go back.

Do all three of the steps below and it should work.
If you are having trouble configuring Google Voice as your voicemail service on Verizon you can make the switch manually by dialing these three activation codes:
*71[Your Google Voice number]
*90[Your Google Voice number]
*92[Your Google Voice number]
All I did was call Verizon and tell them to cancel my voicemail service and since then Google voicemail has been working great
I had no problems with Google voice mail. It says it failed to configure when I tried to switch it in setting. I clicked to still switch it, and it works just fine.
