Selective Nandroid Restore? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to perform a nandroid restore excluding an app from coming back?
I was thinking of mounting the SD and traveling to the CWM directory. Afterward, I would remove the apk via Windows Explorer. Is this sufficient to eradicate all traces of that app?
Thanks everyone in advance for your help!

Applications on SD?

If I have some games that I moved to my SD-Card, and I install a new rom, cleaning data/cache, will the games still be accessible?

It can be restored via my backup root or titanium backup (I use backup root before). But for his problem, his system file is deleted, only apps are in sd. Unless you fully backup via backup root, then it will work after it restored

*sigh* You're wrong, again.
Titanium backup is free, and probably better than everything else.
It has a paid extension which adds stuff like hypershell and synching.
i would recommend you use ASTRO file manager and create a backup of apps and games on SD card. After flashing new ROM, you just need to reinstall apps and games from your SD card backup data.
To know how to create backup data and download Astro file manager checkout this link http://goo.gl/29ykK

[Q] Restore APPS and Settings from Update.zip

Hi All
I am just wondering if it is possible to Restore APPS and APP Settings from a DATA.img file using an update.zip.
I extracted the contents of a DATA.img file and used the DATA and APP directories to populate the update.zip. I removed all the android and google directories and APPS.
When I apply the update.zip some of the APPS work perfectly yet others Force Close all the time.
Am I missing something, do I need to restore some other files?
Any ideas?
Thanks
Just use titanium backup to backup ur apps, than restore ur backup easily with batch operation.
Only app or app with data, choose what you want.
And its safe.

Restoring from CWM

I tried restoring a backup of a stock ROM, but upon start up, it comes up with the tutorial setup to find it hasn't restored any of my applications, only my system settings. Can someone explain what the hell is happening?
What the hell are you doing.Restore how ???.

By restoring a backup in CWM. It just doesn't seem to restore any applications.
Can't say what your problem is there, but it might be worth investing in titanium backup pro (batch restore saves a lot of time and effort). Hope you get your apps back.

[Q] Nandroid restore with DZK's bootstrap

Hey can I use dragonzkiller's bootstrap to restore a nandroid backup I did before flashing CM7? There is an app with data in it I need to get to. I tried backing it up, but now in CM7 it won't find the backup file to restore even if I put it in the folder with it. The nandroid is for rooted 2.3.4 stock.

First off, everything that is nandroided goes in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup (depending on whether you stored it on the external sdcard).
If you put it on the internal, then it would be in /emmc/clockworkmod/backup
If you just want the one app, you can use Titanium Backup to extract it from the nandroid backup. I think you have to have the pro version though.
There are some free programs that will extract from a nandroid backup. App Extractor is a free app that will do this as well. You can get it at the Android Market at https://market.android.com/details?...wxLDEsImNvbS5oYW5keWFuZHkuYXBwZXh0cmFjdG9yIl0.

You can use titanium pro (paid version) to restore an app with data. I did this successfully but did have one problem. After restoring, the app would not run. I moved it from sd card to internal and back to sdcard and it's worked perfectly.

Glad it worked for you. I didn't want to see you have to nandroid it all back to get it for just one app.
AppExtractor and TiBu have saved me more than once.

Is there a way to back up/restore everything between roms?

Just wondering. I just flashed JellyBeans and so far I'm not sure if I want to keep it. Might go back to CleanROM. But it gets tiring having to set everything up over and over. There has to be a way to just back everything up and restore it after installing a new rom.
Titanium Backup (app) can backup/restore your apps and appdata.
A Nandroid backup (recovery) can backup the entire rom, basically creating a duplicate of what your phone is currently running.
refer to the glossary section of my guide.
Thanks guys.

No, not when you take the backup. When you restore you shouldn't have to either.

Don't use this to restore your apps between flashes. It restores system data too abs you very well will have issues on your new ROM. Use titanium backup to restore your apps. Of You pay for the pro version it t only takes 1 click.
