[Q] Syncronize Outlook Tasks with Kies - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I have a Galaxy S2 with 2.6.3 and a Tab 10.1 with the latest stock rom 3.2 kk4. I have the latest kies version on my PC. My S2 has a tasks.apk instaled which syncronize perfectly with Outlook tasks via kies. I want to do the same with the Tab 10.1 but I am not able.
The Kies syncronizacion menu does not give me the option to sync task when the Tab is plugged (just let me contacts, calendar and notes).
I noticed that the Tab do not have the task app instaled, so I took it with root explorer from /systema/app in my S2 and instaled it on my Tab. The application works fine, but Kies didnt let me sync tasks anyway.
The next step I did is to identify the processes that are involved when Kies is syncronizing to copy them from de S2 to the Tab. I copied "TaskProvider.apk", "wssyncmlnps.apk", "syncmlds.apk", "syncmldm.apk" and "MtpApplication.apk" from S2 to Tab and gave all the permissions and change owner correctly.
After changing all this files I thought the tab was going to burn when I plugged it to the USB, but it worked correctly and Kies opened correctly.
BUT WITHOUT THE SYNC TASK OPTION TO PICK IN THE KIES MENU.
I am starting to think that this option to be activated or not depends on the kies program on the pc instead on the apps on the Tab.
¿Any suggestion or idea to get to syncronize the Task? I am opened to try whatever.
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long explanation.

Any new idea about this??

I use a combination of Touchdown to sync Outlook tasks and then Pure Calendar Widget to display them. The two apps work well together and Pure has a nice clean look on my homescreen.

Kies sync problem

I have a question:
Why does not sync S3 with Outlook on windows 7 through Kies on ANY custom ROM????
I mean not even connect to Kies, and I tried a few:
RGUI_GT-I9300_V1.1
XliteRom_V6.0_I9300XXALF2
CriskeloTeamRomSIII_V02_XXALF2_MD5-14020FF9B66C27D8F8EE8BAA2AC3800C
The only one who worked was stock version XXALE8
HAS ANYONE NOTICED THAT?
I am a person who really need contacts and calendar sync from win7 laptop to my galaxy s3!
Any ideas???!!!
And by ideas I mean no DejaOffice and CompanionLink...

[Q] Best way to retrieve data from a smashed SGS2?

Hey guys,
In a moment of great weakness... i have destroyed my SGS2. This phone has been giving me a lot of grief lately (spontaneous and looping reboots, slow or no data connection, apps not behaving as should - requiring reinstalls, and general buginess)... and the result is a cracked temper and a cracked screen.
All that aside - i have decided not to get the screen repaired, but to get a new phone (no idea what my next handset should be - will gladly take suggestions).
So... Lately I have been backing up a lot of my apps using Titanium - which is great. And I have my contacts set to auto-sync with my gmail account - which it has failed to do since adding a few new contacts yesterday.
So my questions are... what is the best way to retrieve/backup the following data now that the screen is un-usable (but the phone seems to still work ok):
- Contact and Calendar Data
- Apps (or list of apps) that Titanium hasnt backed up
I figure I may need a different method of app backup/restore if i do not wish to root my next phone. There doesn't seem to be an automatic feature in the Play Store which keeps track of which apps I have installed... Is there another way to do it?
Thanks for any help.
Cheers.
I'm almost tempted to suggest Kies as solution for retrieving all organizer data (contacts, calendar, tasks, notes) since it does not require mobile screen interaction.
And there are two ways to save data: sync with Outlook or simple backup.
I'm ready to be flamed...
1. To retrieve your contacts or view them, visit Google.com/contacts and login your hole details. You can also sync them too ur New phone.
Access Google calendar online, to see your calendar info
2. I'm not sure how you can proceed with backing up your new apps since you said phone is working but unusable but the options below will work fine in getting back your apps on your next phone without rooting your new device.
I). Though Google Playstore:
When you log in your Google account on your new phone, open playstore, go to my apps and swipe to the next page too view all.
All, will show all the apps you have ever installed or updated via playstore. You can simply reinstall them one by one.
Note that you will need a lot of data so Wi-Fi is recommended.
ii) via ADB: this will work only if usb debugging was enabled under development option. And you have access to a pc. Root access May also be helpful.
You can use ADB to copy all your presently installed app's apks and even your titanium backup folder or any other folder to your Pc
More info on this will follow based on your response.
iii) MTP mode: this will work if MTP mode and not mass storage mode was previously enabled on your phone.
Simply connect your device via usb to ur pc and start copying your files especially your titanium folder, since your question is about apps.
iv) Titanium backup folder:
If you have a copy of your titanium backup folder, then all is well
Personally, I will galaxy Siii or NoteII if you have the patience.
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
Thank for the help guys.
Kies did allow me to retrieve those few un-synced numbers.
And the "my apps" list is a great way to see and reinstall past apps. Not sure if I will be able to root my new phone (Xperia S), so if I cannot get to the Titanium Backup data, this looks like the next best thing.
Thanks again guys.

[Q] Kies v3 with Android 4.3 Outlook sync problem

Today my Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300RWDBTU? WK37) phone offered a firmware upgraded to Android v4.3 which I accepted. When I then went to sync my my Microsoft Outlook 2010 Contacts with my phone using Samsung Kies (as I've always done) it said I needed to upgrade my installed version of Samsung Kies as existing version 2 was not compatiable with the new firmware on the phone. I did so and now have Samsung Kies version 3.2.13114_22.
However, when I select to Sync my selected Contacts folder from Outlook 2010, Kies ONLY gives a sync direction option of "Apply to both device and Outlook". See attached screengrab. There is no option to change the sync direction, which there used to be in Kies v2. I used to be able to just apply the Contacts changes to my device, and this is what I want to do as I do not want or trust the Kies app to do anything to my Contacts as in Outlook 2010.
Is this a known bug or limitation with Kies 3 and Android v4.3 or is there a workaround?

I actually submitted a ticket to Samsung Customer Support about this and they have replied as follows:
"Regarding your issue, I can confirm that the option to change the sync direction has been removed from Kies 3.0. I am unsure of exactly why this feature was removed but i will pass your concerns on to the Kies development team. Hopefully the next update of Kies includes this feature".
Hmmm, very disappointing
Only other app which has been suggested which sounded hopeful for syncing my contacts from Microsoft Outlook 2010 (PC version) to the Android Contacts on my Galaxy S3 was MyPhoneExplorer (as from FJ Software Development). However, on trying to install that my Antiviru program tells me it contains dodgy stuff so I'm unwilling to install that. Don't really know what I'm going to do now. Am really p****d off with Samsung for removing the extra sync directional options from Kies v3.0!!
Kies 3 Outlook Sync
Updated ATT Galaxy S3 to Android 4.3. Samsung Kies prompted for update to Kies 3. Discovered Kies 3 does not support Outlook Sync.
5 Hrs on the phone with ATT Customer Service and Samsung. Each accusing the other for the problem. My solution was to replace phone to unit with Android 4.1.3. Samsung Kies 2.6 Outlook sync restored.
I commend ATT Customer Service for supporting my position. Samsung is the guilty party here for not coming clean to wireless providers on the Kies 3 shortcomings.
I don't support cloud sync for security reasons. 3rd party app suppliers have failed to supply a simple clean sync interface for Outlook users.
MS Active Sync was the last comprehesive local machine software for MS Office. MS has a great opportunity for serious Windows 7/8 and Phone 7 users to provide a comprehensive secure local machine sync for Outlook and Office files.
I would switch if this were the case, however, most "lemmings" are looking for a quad core smartphone for streaming, testing and entertainment in general..
I like Samsung phones, however, serious phone users must keep the pressure on Samsung for Kies. Or urge MS to provide a local sync product to provide an alterantive that is missing from other operating systems.
There are still serious business people out there!
Synching Outlook & Kies version 2 & 3
I have had problems synching my Galaxy Note2 and found that waiting until the phone is connected message disappearing and then synching works.
To synchronise after problems with contacts, I delete all contacts and reload the kies software, which seems to clear a log file that registers issues.

Success! Yesterday a message popped up saying there was a new version of Kies 3 available for download. I downloaded and installed the new version (Kies 3 v 3.2.14013_45 ). This latest version has restored the directional options when syncing my Contacts between Outlook and my phone. Now I can choose from "Apply to device only" or "Apply to Oulook only", and "Apply to both device and Outlook".
I tried a sync with my preferred setting of "Apply to device only" and on first few attempts it stalled at around 40% with an the error message: "An error has ocurred while preparing to sync contacts. Task cancelled". I experimented with opening and closing Outlook and Kies a few times and eventually it's now doing a full sync OK.:laugh::laugh:

Anyone found a resolution or work around? I just switched from iPhone to a Galaxy S4.
Obviously, I didn't do enough research as I use Outlook at a lot and need my calendars, especially my current one, to sync to my phone.
I have Solved The Problem!!!
Hi,
Today I have solved the problem.
first i had kies 2.5.3.13052_10 and it does not sync with outlook.
then i downloaded these files:
KiesSetup Version 2.6.3.14044_16
and Kies3Setup Version 3.2.14055.3
from
http :// www . samsung . com /us / kies/
first of all i uninstalled previous "samsung kies" from my pc completely and restarted my computer.
then I installed Kies3Setup Version 3.2.14055.3. because the android version of my mobile was below 4.3, it does not recognize my device, and I unistalled it completely and restarted my computer again.
then i installed KiesSetup Version 2.6.3.14044_16 and it works properly! I synced all of my contacts from my device to outlook, then I updated my contacts in outlook and synced all of my contacts from outlook to my device again.
if it does work or does not, please feed back!
thank you.

sms not backing up

Hello everyone.
Please, I would need your help to the following issue I have.
I have a pretty old cell phone: Samsung Galaxy GT-S7580. And I want to backup sms messages, but only locally on PC.
Samsung's smart switch does not support this model.
Samsung's Kies does support it. I installed Kies on PC, and I have indeed backuped up on PC: contacts (SIM+device), S-Planner and calling log. The only one that it's missing is sms messages backup.
Although Kies util does have this option of sms backup, when I tap on it, it does not make the backup. I do not know why there is this option there.
Cell's phone Android version is 4.2.2, which cannot be updated (max that can be done).
I have tried also Coolmuster Android Assistant program, but, unfortunately, it does not support specific model.
Can you please help me backup up the sms messages locally?
Thank you for your time!

Thank you for your answer. The problem is that the program cannot find the device (cell phone). When trying connect, cannot detect it.
It's very strange, because Kies from Samsung does detect it, and also, Windows explorer displays it as device, and with double clicking, I can see phone's contents/data.
You need to install MyPhoneExplorer Client on your phone, which communicates with MyPhoneExplorer on windows.
Everything is described at www.fjsoft.at

Hi!
I think that it's possible that your phone may not be compatible with MyPhoneExplorer. In this case, you could try a different backup app that supports your device.
Thanks again for quick answer. The problem is that phone is completely full and out of space. I cannot install application (lient).
Even if I try to uninstall a util/program from phone, what I have understood and come in inclusion all these years is that when from cell phones (as far as it concerns Play Store and Android), so, when uninstalling, in truth nothing happens. Nothing I mean no truly files of "uninstalling" application is removed. All application files stay on phone, and in truth, the only thing that is being removed is application icon. No space is being gaind with "uninstall".
See if you can do sms backup through google service.
https://guidebooks.google.com/android/getstarted/backupyourmessages
I do not want to use Google or any other cloud backup provider. I want to use hard drive locally PC backup and restore.
I agree that MyPhoneExplorer is not compatible with my phone. Would you have any other application that would help for locally backup/restore?
I checked in a device with android 4.1.2 and everything works fine.
- check what applications you have installed
adb shell pm list packages
- identify them and determine the unnecessary ones
- uninstall, for example:
adb shell pm uninstall com.ivona.tts.voicebeta.fra.fra.celine
Once you free up space, install the old version of the client, start MyPhoneExplorer on your PC, connect via USB to your phone and let MyPhoneExplorer update the client version on your phone to the version appropriate for your phone.
These commands: where should I execute them? On a Linux PC? And when:
a. First have connected PC and phone with USB cable and
b. Then on PC (if Linux) I execute them?
Or somewhere else? Please, if you don't mind, a little more help would appreciate.
On your phone, activate USB debugging.
Download SDK Platform-Tools for your OS
Connect the phone to your PC with a USB cable
Confirm access on the phone
Check in the terminal on the PC the visibility of the phone by adb devices
Execute the remaining commands.
I have found the way to execute adb commands.
Now, there is other problem. Insufficient space for application.
I try apps to uninstall, but no result. 1-1 and try to install, with no result. The 3-rd party apps I have installed are with small size. So, 1 by 1 uninstalling has no result, and I lose time.
2 applications with big size that maybe would be the solution to uninstall, unfortunately are not third party. They are system. These 2 are:
Galaxy Apps
YouTube
If I uninstall them (I have no problem unistalling, I do not use them on old Galaxy), so, if I uninstall them, would it make any s/w damage to phone (maybe no startup later)?
I know that I will use Motorola new phone now, but just in case I need something in old phone some day. So, with these two uninstall, I would be ok or not?
If the system allows you to uninstall system applications, it actually enables you to return to the initial version.
This is also a benefit, because there will be smaller versions.
By far, thing are better.
I made space on Samsung. I installed MyPhoneExplorer on Samsung, Motorola and Windows.
First, I backed up from Samsung contacts + SMS on two files respectively. Then, I run MyPhoneExplorer on Motorola.
I restored contacts on Motorola. It worked fine.
The only problem I have is that SMS cannot be sent to Motorola. When I try to send them (try to restore) on Motorola, on internal storage or in e.g. sent folder for a sent SMS, I get error message: "Messages could not be sent".
Seems like something on Motorola is locked, and stops SMS restore/transferring. Or maybe a setting on Motorola settings or on the application is the solution.
Or maybe I make something wrong to the SMS restore procedure.
Ok. Everything worked perfect.
With SDK platform tools, and "MyPhoneExplorer" and "SMS Backup & Restore" apps, I backed up and restored everything to new Motorola Moto G32.
Your advice was extremely helpful!! Thank you so much!!
In order not open another post, I think that my last problem/question fits to this one.
It's about last backup and restore I want to make from old Samsung to new Motorola. It has to do with Samsung's calendar which is S Planner.
problem is :
a. I want to make the backup not via Google. As above-mentioned for other backups (sms, contact, call log). With a 3rd party app. And not via Kies. Kies will make the backup from Samsung, but it can't be used on Motorola. Have already tried use on Motorola, but Kies is working just on Samsung. So, have you any app to suggest for S Planner backup on old Samsung Android 4.2.2, and, at the same time, be used as a restore app for Motorola?
b. If a. is solved, difficult b. now is that S Planner calendar, as an app, is only for Samsung phones. So, I am trying to find a calendar app alternative to S Planner, to install on Motorola, in order to restore there the calendar backup I will have got from my old Samsung.
Would REALLY appreciate your help!
