Hi, I am running Liberty rom and cant get into recovery using Bootstrap recovery. I have the apk installed and when I click it, it restarts the phone but just stays on the Motorola boot screen does not go into recovery. I am plugged into the wall charger with USB debugging on. I might add that I was able to get into recovery before installing Liberty Rom, although I doubt that the Rom is the issue. Any suggestions? TIA
when i was running liberty the only way i could get into system recovery was to go into recovery app and select recovery mode. the phone would re-boot into recovery. If i tried to simply power off the phone and plug it in, as i have always done to get into recovery once it is setup, it would just hang at the moto screen. not sure what caused this to start happening, hope it helps.
Hi, thanks for the reply, I used apk, and it rebooted the phone but only to the Motorola initial boot screen. If I try it the way you sugested it does the same thing just hangs at the Motorola screen wont go into recovery. Don't understand what happened.
I can boot into the Motorola recovery but, that would only allow me to restore the phone to factory.

have you tried reinstalling recovery apk all together, how long are you giving it at the moto screen?
**side note, just noticed the similarity in usernames...
I had the same issue after liberty install i just went into sys recovery app and clicked install recovery.....works fine

Yes, tried reinstall the recovery apk and have waited 10 minutes on the the boot screen. Weird, It worked fine before. Funny with the name similarity.

That's my problem, it won't go into recovery.

You cant even get into the system recovery application in the app drawer?
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
I can get to the app and once I click on it it reboots the phone, then stops at the Motorola boot logo and nothing happens after that.

Still not seeing the green X2 recovery menu
Hi All:
Been following this thread but I'm still not getting the "green" X2 system recovery menu option (vs the blue Android recovery menu).
So, I redownloaded MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.rar, unzipped it again, reinstalled the program & rebooted once again just for good measure.
I also confirmed I'm rooted via the superuser app and I can get into the system recovery app thru the app drawer.
sys recovery apps comes up, I click "install recovery" and I get the "install success" message. I wait a few mins before pressing OK. Then, I press the "recovery mode" menu option and, after a few secs, the phone auto reboots. So far so good...
Then, like everyone else, I get the Motorola logo...but NOT the green X2 recovery menu options I'm expecting (like in the Youtube video I checked out). Instead, it goes straight to that greaI then pull the battery, wait a few secs (just because it feels good), re-install the battery and power up the phone.
Again, all I get is the Motorola startup logo, then it presents me with the infamous "D-R-O-I-D" voice in grey letters followe that cyborg-looking red eye, before completely booting to the home screen again.
I'm new to the Droid X2, but I have successfully rooted/flashed Ice Cream Sandwich on my EVO 4G, so I know I'm doing something stupid on my X2, despite the two phones being from totally different mfrs.
Any ideas? I can handle getting laughed at if I'm forgetting something dumb; for me, the most important thing is coming away from this w/ a little more knowledge and experience than before.
Thanks in advance for everyone's expertise, patience, & willingness to help!
-Matt

Sorry about all the typos & confusion it might have generated...
Just wanted to add some more info to my previous post...
Yes, usb debugging is checked
Yes, allow unknown sources is also checked
Yes, I'm following the 4 step in the X2 recovery menu to the letter (including connecting my phone to the AC charger, even though batt is fully charged, before I press the 3rd button - Recovery Mode)
Thank you...
Have you tried to turn your phone off and then plug the a/c charger into the phone and see if the battery symbol comes up or tenfar bootstrap? If bootstrap is installed it should go straight to that. Do not hit the power button just see which mode it goes to first. If it does not go to bootstrap I would try and get a fresh download of app and try again. If still not working sbf and start fresh.
If nothing else works, try a different charger. The Moto charger should work but other brands may or may not. I've got several other chargers for other devices. One of them won't boot the phone to recovery even though I can use it to charge the battery. Output too low perhaps? I don't know. Only know it doesn't work for recovery. If that's not the problem, try another cable. I also have one of those that for some reason won't boot it to recovery. It boots and stops at the red M. It's probably not the problem but it can't hurt to give these things a try.

Like others said.
BEFORE PRESSING RECOVERY MODE BUTTON make sure you are plugged into a charger and plugged INTO WALL OUTLET....(plugging into computer WILL NOT work)
Our bootstrap hijacks charge only.mode.
So once u have hit install recovery and it says success and u press recovery mode(while plugged in,) it will shut phone down and the.hijack will install and completely and take you to BSR recovery menu.
This had me at first also. didn't think wall charger or plugged into computer made a difference but was wrong. Had to be plugged into wall charger.

Well, flashed Eclipse .06...and went into a bootloop. Had no clue what to do (Didn't know how to boot into recovery without accessing Android...was a bit frantic) so I flashed the SBF over...immediately gave me Text FC, Skype FC, Keyboard FC, etc...and I can't get past my "Touch Android to Begin" Screen. SBF'd again...same issues.
Any ideas?

You need to boot into stock recovery and do a factory reset. The SBF only resets the /system partition, not the /data.

Pull your battery, put it back in. Hold your volume button down while powering up. Once you see the boot screen with words in the corner, tap volume down until you see recovery. Tap volume up. Wipe data and factory reset.

After I install recovery from the CM7 bootstrap apk and hit run recovery it just powers off my phone. I can boot it back up without any problems just no recovery. It says "connect to nothing" in the instructions so I'm not connected to power, this happened to anyone else? A nice ROM like this without recovery doesn't do much good. Also I'm new to dx2 so it may be a simple solution, I'm hoping so anyway.

Um have u plugged in? Its bootstrap recovery so it only works if u plug it in to your wallcharger. USB will not work either... also u dnt have to launch the app. It will kick off anytime u plug up while powered off. Must be off.

Oh the CM7 bootstrap says plug into nothing so that's what I did, I'll try plugged up. How do you run bootstrap without the app, I thought that was the only way? My old phone was hold both volume buttons and power on but I didn't think that worked on dx2.

While power off plug it to the wall. Easy as pie. Lemmie know if it works.

Oh okay nice. Got it going though, reflashed CM7 and downloaded the apk again and it's booting from the app like the normal bootstrap does. Have to try the other method when I get home.

I was trying to root my friends phone and I temp rooted it I was trying to use the Vodaphone guide to downgrade the hboot. The instructions were to flash a rom. Since I got root I clear the cache and other factory files. Now the phone wont even boot. It had been on the HTC screen for sometime. I took out the battery and now can't even turn the phone on. Good morning,
just reboot into recovery, do a full wipe and try again.
This will happen from time to time with a bad flash.
If it continues to happen, I guess we will wait for someone elses opinion.
To reboot into recovery, I believe you have to hold the up or down volume while pressing the power on button at the same time. Have patience with it, sometimes you wont get it the first time.
The problem is that I can't even get the phone to turn on. I don't know what's wrong. I feel so bad. It still has s on. I don't know what to do.

Pull the battery, let out sit for a few minutes then try again. If that doesn't work, and you have sdk/adb set up on your computer, see if adb will recognize the device, if so..do
Adb reboot recovery

try plugging into your pc and use the 'adb reboot recovery' command
Knightslay, I sent you a private message
Edit: I got him up and going again, hopefully he can finish rooting when he wakes up
I was running mlk's ics release on my evo 3d. I had hboot 1.40 and s-off. I had no problems flashing the rom and I was using it with no problems.I have been using it since it was released. No issues. Yesterday, I just went to reboot the system through the advance power menu. The phone went dead immediately, mind you my phone is fully charged. I tried going into recovery using the usual vol down + power, phone doesnt respond. I plug in the usb cable and tried it again, no luck. So I tried pressing all the buttons (power, vol up, vol down and camera button) the phone flashes the htc screen then shuts off. That is the only response I get. When I use adb devices it lists this:
"HT16FHX07713 recovery"
I can get the phone to do the same thing as mentioned above when i do "adb reboot recovery", it just flashes the htc screen for less than a second then goes off while still showing that it is charging.
Can anyone shed some light on what I can do to fix this? If you need any info, let me know and I'll try to provide what I can. Thanks
I see that you tried adb reboot recovery but have you tried adb reboot bootloader?
Thanks, that was the only thing I didnt try. Tried it just now and the bootloader just loaded up. What should I do now? I'm kind of rusty and that its been awhile since I flashed/rooted an android phone.

Sorry for the late reply, got busy. I'm sure you've figured it out by now. If it were me, I'd just flash a pg86img of 4ext (let me know if you need it) and then flash a rom.
Yes please. I do need that. Thanks

My power switch started acting funny yesterday. It won't work if I push it directly, but if I slide my finger up across the switch as I push it down, it will work reliably.
This may not be related to your problem, but worth a quick try.

This happened to my razr maxx last month and even with a factory cable it was toast. Go to droidrazr.com forums and search making your own cable out of a usb cable to jump the phone. Sorts like jumping a cars battery. You will have to take apart your razr though. Another reason i hate this phone doesnt have a removable battery.
It is removable, just not without the case being removed first & why did you create two threads about this?

If you had been paying attention to your own thread you would have noticed that the "Delete" comment was not aimed at the thread.
I posted then changed my mind about it so it was aimed at deleting my own post.
Same thing happend with my razr 2 weeks ago. I tried all things what I found on forums (incl. battery remove -yes, it is very simple- , factory cable, all type of key combinations) but without result. So I gave up and my razr is in repair center now and probably will get new motherboard. I've read somewhere on verizon forum that "rarely, but the cpu itself is crashing" and that could be the reason why the factory cable or battery remove doesn't help. I think this could be same as a damaged BIOS chip in a PC, you can push the power button but PC will not react to that.
If you want , i will buy your phone as it is , with its problem
