Anybody use either the car or home dock for the X2. Are they worth the $25?
I use the desk dock. Before the gingerbread update, I hated it because the default notification sound played when you connected it and for me, it kept playing it randomly while plugged in. With the update, they disabled that from playing at all (it was completely unnecessary to begin with).
If you do decide to get it, I would suggest getting the Droid X Essentials pack. It can be found on Amazon.com for around $50 and it includes the desk dock, car dock, HDMI cable, wall charger, and car charger.
The desk dock is nice, and if you have a standalone gps or a universal car mount, you can get the dock, hdmi cable for only 28 dollars on amazon...if you need the car mount, obviously go with the pack, but i already had a universal clamp so i saved the 22 dollars, and I love the dock.
Not to hijack, but does anyone know if the X2 dock will fit the Bionic? Really don't want to get it, if I'm going to have to get a new one in a month or two..

There's always a chance, but the bionic looks a bit thicker, and since it may be webtop capable, the ports may be reversed or spaced differently. It's totally worth the $20, and i'll buy it from you for 15 if it ends up not fitting in a month or two ;D
I have the car dock and am very happy with it. I like it way better then the compression mount I had with my old phone.

Like the title says, if anyone is selling theirs or knows a good price for it, let me know!
Walk into a Verizon Store. I just purchased the mobile cradles for my RZnd and my wifes TB for a whomping $40. I know if you purchase three accessories, you get a discount. The vehicle Cradle for the RZnd is actually quite nice. The power attaches to the cradle and a static connector is built into that. Just doc the phone and plug in the headphone jack and your off. I KNOW this is not a desk dock but it can be used as one. The desk dock was NOT that expensive.. I think $20...
I went in the store and the the $50 dollar deck for 20. The warehouse mispriced the deck @ $30 + a $10 dollar discount I got 8). I'm not too sure if they corrected the prices, so it's worth a shot.
For anyone in the same boat as me, check this out:

What exactly do docks do besides be another charger?
I'm living on a yellow submarine
I have had two of the car docks now and both did not work properly causing a drain instead of the charge on my phone. For example, when playing Pandora with the screen always on and set to 4g, the battery dropped by 10 - 15 % in 30 mins of use. When I plugged it directly to the car charger under the same conditions I got a positive charge going from 60% to 100% in 30 Mins. Same results on 3g. Either the store got a bad batch or something is wrong with my phone. Taking both back tomorrow.
Desktop Dock a must have accessory
Got mine at the Verizon Store when I picked up my Rezound on opening day (Nov. 14th). Glad I did as it now appears to be a scarce item to find. Some helpful hints should you find one, you can change the 3 default apps in "dock mode" by accessing the link through the "Clock" app. You cannot remove or change the default music app in dock mode. It is a must have accessory if you have a Rezound, and is designed to work with standard or extended battery attached. Good luck in your hunt!
Does it still fit with a tpu or silicone case on it? Also anyone tried using this as a car dock with a usb connection to the car stereo? My car stereo has a usb hookup and I would like to use that for charging and music(less wires) but my stereo seems to have a problem with docks between it and the device, my ipod wont work with its standard dock but works fine with just the wire.
In regards to using the desktop dock with a case on the phone, I would have to say probably not. The phone sits pretty snuggly in the dock, and if there was a case on it, it would possibly not fit correctly/deep enough in the dock tray to properly seat the power connection. As for using the desktop dock in a car, I guess it would be possible with a usb/car charger connection and some velcro to mount it. However, since the phone sits in the dock at an angle, it would depend on your dashboard layout to obtain the best viewing angle while driving/in sunlight. If you manage it, post some pics!
Great the car dock drains the battery and the desk dock would require me removing my case every time. Awesome. Nothing ever just works, except the phone, the phone is awesome.
I'm feeling like the accessories are lacking because this is a verizon exclusive.
HTC need to step the accessories game up like motorola has. We need docks with hdmi output. We need powered car docks. We should have easy options to dock this thing next to a tv and use it like a netbook with a bluetooth keyboard without a tangle mess of adapters.
I have seen the Motorola Lapdock being used with some other phones (Sony Xperia?) and even with stuff like an Xbox 360 or PS3, just wondering if anyone knows if the Rezound would work using the MHL HDMI adapter. If it would charge the phone, and the keyboard and touchpad worked, that would be great, but I am primarily just wanting to use it as a portable display during my 12 hour shift at work where I spend most of my time in a parked car.
If this doesn't work, does anyone know of an alternative? Possibly a thin portable monitor that can be run on a battery or plugged into a car? Again, my primary goal is just to output to a bigger screen for video and the occasional websurfing or game, I can always control everything via the phone or like a bluetooth keyboard or something.

Not sure about the Moto dock. I would imagine that you could get an LCD that is made for putting in headrests and whatnot for custom car applications that has an HDMI input and you would be set.

Hmm this is giving me ideas... I was fist thinking of making my rezound dockable with my desktop monitor when ubuntu for android came out, but now im think of making a complete lapdock type thing... interesting.
Keep in mind the charging limitation of the MHL adapter. Because it needs the data pins, they can't be shorted out and in turn the phone will only draw 500mA to charge with, there's a number of complaints about batteries dying while using the adapter as a result.

Hello!
I'm planning to but original dock for my RAZR, and I see that there are two versions of it. What are differences between them?
http://www.motorolastore.eu/pl/p_motorola_product.aspx?i=225118
http://www.motorolastore.eu/pl/p_motorola_product.aspx?i=225121
It bugging me, since they are looking the same but the second one is much more expensive. And description is the same.
Cheaper one has only one USB port for charging, another is equipped with hub and three USB ports. HDMI micro socket is in both models.
Ed. Ale bardziej opłaca się złożyć samemu =]
Also, The more expensive dock has a standalone Firefox web browser. I purchased the more expensive one and use a usb mouse and a bluetooth keyboard and it's like having a full PC on your TV through the HDMI cable. You could probably do the same thing with the less expensive dock if you have a Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard combo but I am pretty sure you can only go into mirror on display mode vs the full webtop application. Either way, I think it would be a worthwhile purchase in my opinion. I enjoy using it.
Additionally I was told that the less expensive model does not include the mini HDMI cable. Not sure if that would influence your decision or not.
I'm just wondering. And I don't mean to jack the mans thread, but has a powered USB hub ever been successfully patched into the dock interface? If its easy enough I might try modding mine.

So, basically in more expensive model you can access Webtop, while in cheaper one, you can't, right? Or am I wrong and it's only USB ports and browser difference?
Also, lack of HDMI cable is no problem. I can get one easily xD
The one I have has no USB ports. It only has HDMI, Audio and a micro USB charging port. I'm just wondering if a USB splitter can be added some way?

@UrbanDroid
But can you acces Webtop App like on more expensive one? If it doesn't have Webtop app then it's not worth to buy it.
Also I have questions for other. Is it possible to attach normal USB hub to it and make it work like expensive dock? I mean, connect normal HUB with three normal USB slots and one microUSB for charging. Is it even possible without tearing dock apart? I know it's less stylish then buying expensive one, but unfortunatelly I can't afford it xD Life is brutal and stuff.
Webtop is in your phone, not the dock. The docks play some tricks with USB pins so the phone knows which dock it's in and which mode to activate.
People have used USB hubs to add devices to the RAZR, with or without a dock. The only caveat is that the hub must have its own power supply and you may have to make a cable to have it work. Google around for it.
The ICS leak (.211/OTA?, at least) will enable webtop without using a dock at all. Just plug in an HDMI cable and you're good.
Confirming. I've got the simple dock for free with the costco verizon deal recently. No mHDMI cable included. However the web top works the same through the dock as with the cable only (upgraded to ICS right away, so can't tell for GB, but who cares now, as JB is coming? ). Tinkering with the idea of installing a USB hub board inside the dock. Looks straight forward, just need to measure the inside compartment to get a proper hub for parts.
Anyone tried to fit the Amaze 4G on a lapdock? Can't find any posts via search
Those Lapdocks (eg Atrix Lapdock) go on sale for ~$50, basically a display, keyboard, battery and trackpad.
Below is someone's hack for raspberry pi on the lapdock.... since amaze 4G has HDMI out, only thing to do is to see if we can get the cables to fit properly, and the USB functionality(keyboard+trackpad) to work, and the software
http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/21/3105822/motorola-lapdock-hacked-raspberry-pi-rikomagic
So I did a bit of digging...
The Amaze uses a MHL connector (see wiki) which allows for access to HDMI and USB over one connector. The lapdocks seem to have two connectors to plug into the Motorola phones. It doesn't seem like a big issue to replace the cable from the lapdock with a MHL one that you could probably buy off ebay.
Double check which pin corresponds to which wires on the MHL and also on the USB and HDMI cable from the lapdock, cut the wires, re solder, heat shrink, close the lapdock back up....profit???
That's as far as I can tell regarding connecting the hardware the phone. I'm willing to bet that the HDMI will output directly to the screen fine without any software adjustment. But I'm unsure about the keyboard and trackpad.
Thoughts?
I'd be willing to give this a try if there's interest.

from looking at the raspberry pi and other stuff(laptop/wii connected to the hdmi port), you'll get a "mirrored" display... the keyboard/trackpad depends on the usb connection/driver/OTG Kernel, dunno about that
Youll need
Lapdock: $20-$60 (i'd suggest getting the atrix/bionic versions, not the motorola 500 one)

MHL connector for HDMI: $10-$35
Official http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Adaptor-Jetstream-Tablets-Package/dp/B005LSOPN4
Unofficial, may need USB cable for power http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10833&cs_id=1083314&p_id=8675&seq=1&format=2
->I can't get any clear indication that the USB data from phone passes through to the USB connector on the MHL adapter
maybe some HDMI cables/connector (HDMI male from MHL connector to miniHDMI female on the lapdock)
I have a tablet and a netbook too, so don't think I'll be attempting this for now
the 35Whr battery(from googling), people say it can charge your phone a couple of times over(your phone's battery is 4Volts*2AmpHr = 8Whr)
I'll see if I can find a cheap one here in Canada.
It's a rather interesting concept.
It kinda reminds me of this.http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/android
Definitely interested in this, would be cool to have this setup.
Live and Die on this day....
went to a radioshack nearby, they didn't have it..
bascially, i would only get one if its around $20 (since you can charge phone with it, $20 for a large battery is worth it, though not for the laptop form factor)
The only docks I can get my hands on are $50+ from ebay. This idea is such a niche product...I'm trying to think of a time where this could be useful.

commute on a train/bus, could watch video on a larger screen while charging your battery
if we had the software to support it as well (like the ubuntu-phone posted earlier or webtop options), could compose email or edit code on the go...
Isn't that why we have laptops?

if you want to spend more than $200, a laptop
if you want just one device that has everything loaded, and customizable(via the lapdock), maybe a netbook or this lapdock
i guess that's why the Atrix Lapdocks are selling at a discount... the manufacturers couldn't find a good way to advertise this expensive device (MSRP is $300 or so)
it's available for $40 on bensoutlet

yes we do, via the ExtMicro / MHL port
http://androidforums.com/htc-amaze-4g/500285-clearing-air-mhl-hdmi-adapters-amaze.html
I heard that the Amaze 4G is picky about which MHL cable it accepts, and the kernel/android build on it must support HDMI out
