Hi Hope you can assist,
I recently upgraded to Honeycomb "3.55.405.1" using globatron steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758
Everything with regards to S-Off, Rooting and Updating the Honeycomb image went perfectly.
The only issue I have is that when using the Wireless, it continuously disconnects and re-connects.
I am a "newbee" and do not have permission to post a reply in Glabatron's Post.
Can anyone assist in fixing the WiFi issue on My HTC Flyer.
32 Gig, WiFi + 3G
Thanking you in advance.
Can you try to capture a logcat output of what happens when you get a disconnection?
I don't have any problems with WIFI myself.
I have the same issue. The wifi disconnects and the reconnects. Usually it reconnects fairly quickly. Wifi under GB was rock solid.
Unfortuneately, I have no idea what a logcat output is let alone to try and capture one when I get a disconnect.
Another question is what ROM were you on before the HC update? A lot of people have been running HC for a long time and I have not seen reports previously of WIfi problems.
Stock GB. US Wifi only flyer.
The only thing I have done is S-Off and Root on both GB and HC. No custom roms.
Dont know what is logcat

Hi, Thank you for your reply.
I do not know what is a logcat
I was on Official GB, with OTA updates, Not a single Mod, No root and no S-Off changed. I formatted the SD Card and Did a factory Reset before doing any steps. No backups were needed.

If it makes any difference, this Flyer was purchased in South Africa.
One of the Posts I read mentioned they had the same issues, and had to re-flash which solved the issue. Is this suggested, and if so, will I go through these steps again:
Post #66 > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758&page=7 "zieka"
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip <downloaded file name>
Flashing will fail with Error 90 first time due to hboot change
fastboot flash zip <downloaded file name>
The on screen indicator on the phone will not reach fully to the right end of the progress bar, this is ok
fastboot reboot
If I run a continuous ping to the router, I get time a long list of replies, then about 4 disconnects were you can see the Wireless Icon in the bottom right disappear and come back,

You have to have root for a logcat...
The only difference between the link above and the Flyer is the last step. As we do not have a trackball, volume down + c instead stops the log. After pulling the log, upload the contents to pastebin and post the link here.
I also have this problem, but only on my home wifi network - when I connect at the office everything seems fine. I am using the same ISP at both locations, could it be something connected to the router setup I am using?
I had this problem on gb prior to most recent version. I then went to hc via globatron method and problem came back so i have reverted to gb again
Much prefer hc though, so would be keen on tracking down the issue

Hi Thank you for the link.
I downloaded Terminal Emulator from the market. Started a continuous ping from my Laptop to the IP address of the Flyer.
On the Flyer I started Terminal Emulator, ran:
su
granted permissions
logcat > /sdcard/logfile.txt
it says - Waiting for device -
Left the ping Running while singing onto Skype and browsing the net and waited for wireless to disconnect. Once it disconnected I pressed Vol Down + C
Looked for the logfile I saved.
All the log file says is :
*deamon not running. startin it now on port 5038 *
*deamon started successfully *
Nothing else, what am I missing? I am downloading the "Android-sdk_r15-windows.zip file" now to see if its needed : http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Should I be using anything on the laptop or is all steps done on the Flyer?
I attempted running adb ppp logcat > /sdcard/logfile.txt and got error
Error: Could not open adb Service: logcat. Error: device not found
adb version :
Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.26
If I type adb devices :
List of devices attached
#
Nothing Listed
Running a ping from the flyer to www.google.com i get a list of replies then when the wireless disconnects it says : Ping: sendmsg : Network is unreachable
I have enabled Debugging mode and gone through the steps again, still cant give any more feedback, log file does not say anything
Static IP address seems to help

I have tested and noted the same. At work 100% stable, home WiFi is the problem.
1 major difference I found, work uses static ip addresses, home is DHCP. I configured the Flyer with a static IP and its been stable fo about 20 minutes. Will continue testing and report back tomorrow if its 100% stable.
What router are u using at home, I have the standard Telkom Do broadband thingy.
Going to run through the setting, maybe a firmware update on the router

That's a fascinating discovery, thanks. I'm going to give it a go and see how I fare. I have a Belkin router, tried the update route but there wasn't anything available.
Confirmed - static IP fixes the issue (thanks El_Diablo666). Also WiFi throughput seemed very low prior to disabling dhcp.
For correlation: My WiFi network is through a new belkin N600 router using 802.11n (20Mhz channel spread) with WPA2 (problem also happens using WPS). I have the 32GB + 3G Flyer. I had to download the official honeycomb RUU as the OTA was not showing (but the device has never been rooted or s-off, only official ROMs). Perhaps HTC have suspended the OTA?

Static IP - Stable connection
As a few have found, setting a static IP address resolves the disconnect issue.
It's still strange that with Gingerbread WiFi was 100% stable on DHCP.
Turns out I have a Belkin router as well. Anyone think the issue could be linked to this, or does the issue lie with Honeycomb?

Could be honeycomb as i'm using a vodafone Easybox 803a.
Eeebox and hd7 working 100%, no WiFi Problem...
I'm a total noob with all those WiFi things, so how to Set up a static ip?
Steph
Seems to be an issue across multiple devices on Honeycomb. I'll dig into it a bit and see if I can package a flashable zip ix for it.
My wifi issue is with the speed. I have a Wireless N router but the Flyer seems to only detect 5 mbps, where as the android phone right next to it shows 65 mbps. Then when I run speed test it maxes out at around 1.5 mpbs. My laptop on the same LAN connected wireless gets around 12 mbps. I wonder why the Flyer is throttled to much?
Can someone with the disconnection problem tell me what they have the disconnection policy set to under settings-wireless->wifi settings->disconnection policy ?

That sucks, I'm getting 19.2 Mb/s on a 20 Mb/s connection, so the flyer can go faster. Try running in mixed G/N mode.

hi there. i bought a 2nd hand htc hero yesterday and it is rooted. i can connect to the wifi but once i start browsing, i cant browse, webpage unavailable. when i try market. sometimes i connect sometimes i cant. but most of the time i cant.. i access the 4636 and saw

http client test: unknown "sometimes IOException"
im on rom fusion. what should i do? should i flash other radio?
can anyone help me? i cant get my hero wifi to work. i can connect to the wifi but i cant send dat over the internet

i tried other wifi spots but still i got same results.. what seems to be the problem? do u think its hardware issues? i can detect all the wifi connections available but once i got connected, i cant browse or use the market. is it hardware?
also to add to the problem, i tried the bluetooth, i cant receive files but i can send files to others..
i think best way is to flash another ROM .. Wipe everything before you flash & see it it works otherwise flash Radio if you not having latest one Radio for Hero GSM Then i think VillainROM Guys are having you can check their forums ..and try that
i think i have issues with my wifi at home.. because when i try public wifi's i can connect to some but i also cant to some free wifi. which is weird. i have a wildfire before and this was not an issue for me
Last year I had a similar problem that I fixed by assigning my hero a static ip address. For some reason dhcp did not work.
Strangely enough I don't have that problem anymore.
Back then I had stock 1.5 OS. Now I have every ROM. Well, you know what I mean.

This could very well be an issue with your router firmware. Some routers are just plain ****ty.
Can you maintain a connection without any encryption (WEP,WPA,WPA2,etc)?
Until yesterday I have been successful in connecting to various WiFi hot spots, now I have to use a static IP to connect to the very same two WiFi hot spots. Using dynamic addressing my tablet cycles "authenticating, obtaining IP address etc." and never successfully connects. When I use static IP, the connection is instanteneous. I have tried recycled power to one of the WiFi hotspots without any change. Also, I have been successful in connecting another device to the WiFi router successfully suggesting the problem is with my tablet. The table otherwise works fine.
Has anyone else encountered this?
Lost DHCP over WiFi
I just found the following (timely) posting forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/18708-dhcp-timeout-over-wifi and will investigate whether that would be cause of my recent problem since I had just downloaded another version of busybox.
I have the same issue but from makin my laptop the hotspot n connecting tab to that, but I use Connectify for the hotspot and itworks with connecting, just not all the time.
When it doesn't, have to forget the connection then re-connect, usually fixes it. I don't think its ur tablet though, ive experienced this with every rom I've tried(tnt stock, tntlite 4.25, vegan froyo and ginger experimental)
Hope this helps
No it does not help since your problem does not resemble mine.
Problem solved after updating busybox to working version. Apparently a version of busybox lacked certain programs needed by the DHCP client.
More info on updating busybox please?

Router information: Linksys Wireless-N WRT120N
I have done everything that i could think of to get this working. i have done several google searches and they all say to do specific things.
For example:
-Reset router
-Enable B/G only or G only set at channel 11
-turn off router firewall settings
-and a bunch of other random sh*t
i have done all of the above then some and i still cant get it to connect. all i get is *scanning* then *disconnected* thats the only two things it says. except right after i reset the router. every time i reset the router i get * obtaining IP yadadada* then goes to *disconnected* then back to the "scanning, disconnected" loop.
there have been some people that have said flashing a custom firmware on the router would fix the issue with mobile connectivity on Wireless-N routers.
please someone be helpful with this and please dont tell me i need to reset my router. i have asked this same question on several forums and the only replies i get are "if you reset the router and turn off security it WILL work fine" thats bull****. im not an idiot. thats the first step any computer literate person would take before asking questions.
**Update: same as from General thread. i had to repost because it was closed for some reason there. also here are the answers to the other two guys to responded.
"not standing close enough" -i have been standing next to it. i have yet to test it more than 10 feet away lol so it cant be there
"flash another rom or reflash current rom" -it has nothing to do with my rom, kernal, or radio. this issue is also happening on my girlfriends xperia running Wolfxperia and mine is the blackeditionHDv2. its also an issue with her sisters xperia. hers is still stock 2.2(i think). their stepdad has an iphone and it wont connect with that either. from what ive gathered... its a mobile issue. i know all these phones say (b or g only) but even setting the router to broadcast in b/g it still wont connect. it notices the routers name with full strength on all devices. also i might add that their laptop is an older laptop. does not support N but still can connect to the router and have internet.
Same here. Xperia mini x10 pro. When on it says connecting even thought I nothing appear visible.

any idea on how i can solve this?
I'm guessing this is an ip issue. The mobile devices are not able to get one. This usually happens to me on a public network and I even get a " limited or no connectivity".
The work around I do is to assign a static ip on my phone. Its very simple to do and if you need help doing it, let me know.
There's no clear explanation I can tell you, but it seems some mobile devices have a hard time pulling ip's from different types of routers. Hope this helps.

Will ask my gf to give it a try. It happened so abruptly, it was working fine when she was at col then when she came back it won't detect any wifi, whether it's her house or mine, and now that she is back at her col she still can't connect.
I know how you feel.
I have had this issue ever since I first upgraded to Stock 2.3.3 last July. On 1.6 and 2.1 (both stock also) I never had issues.
Basically, in my case, resetting the router DOES solve the problem, but only for a limited time. This limited time is random, as sometimes it will work for a few days, and then sometimes it will cut out a few hours again after I have reset my router. I am also using the static IP method (and an app called WiFi Stat which I initially thought had solved the problem, but it hasn't) I'm not sure what triggers the WiFi connection to be lost, but there must be a trigger. Like I said, I never had this issue in my previous old Android versions.
I had hoped (somewhat naively) that moving to a custom ROM would solve the issue, but after installing Wolf's latest ROM, I still have this issue.
Have you tried anything based on 2.3.4 or above, to see if this is an Android 2.3.3 issue? Are there any good ROMs people could recommend that are based on higher versions than 2.3.3?
WEP/WPA key issue?
If its not the kernel/ROM/version of the phone, it could have something to do with the way the security is set up for your router. I had the most frustrating time logging into my university's wireless (think it was encrypted with 802.1x EAP) which required username and password. Though most home-owned router are equipped with WPA/WPA2 PSK or WEP, you can try the steps below:
1. Go to Settings ->Wi-Fi Settings -> Add Wi-Fi network
2. Type in the network SSID (yeah this is the manual part)
3. Open the "Security" drop-down box and set the following:
Security: 802.1x EAP
EAP method: PEAP (default)
Phase 2 auth.: MSCHAPV2
CA cert.: leave unchanged
User cert.: leave unchanged
4. Type in username (if any) and password.
Once again, this would work 99% for 802.1x...not sure about WPA/WEP. Good luck!
Try Channel 6 in router option and hope it works.
Solve
setting a static ip doesnt seem to work.. any idea? i wish not to re-flash as i dun think that would be a permanent solution.
again i dun think it has anything to do with my router as other gadgets are able to connect with it and i didnt fiddle with the security.
It is unable to detect any router as i have tried it different hotspots.
Hope to get some help.
------------------------------------
I wipe clear the settings and it worked again.. hope the problem doesn't persist again.

PPTP VPN has come and gone on different Radio Firmware all the last 3 Sprint Android phones (EVO 4G, EVO 3D). But initial release of EVO 4G LTE got that right.
You need to narrow things down.
Are you VPNing from the PC or From the phone itself.
I suggest trying it with Phone on WIFI and see that works first (assuming your VPNing from the Phone).
If everything works on WIFI and then fails on 3G you may be in for a wait.
If it fails on WIFI you may have a setup issue or something that might get addressed in a Custom ROM or future Custom Kernel.
If your doing it from say a PC and WIFI Tether. WIFI Tether apps can influence things.

When your connected through the vpn I see you tried a ping, but can you try running a tracert to one of your PC or servers on the network and let us know what you see?
I'm looking to see where is your connection going to once your authenticated (if your fully granted network access)
Another thing you may want to check is what IP address is assigned to the phone when you connect.

Logcat will help you.
If you are on linux:
Code:
adb logcat -d > /tmp/logcat.txt
grep -i 'wifi\|wpa' /tmp/logcat.txt
On windows, use "adb logcat" saving the output to a text file, like my example above. Try to find strings containing wifi and wpa (or wpa_supplicant).
This way you will know what is really happening.

huh can you explain it a little more better, where i have to write this above? i am on windows...on my atrix i have terminal emuluator, have i there to write this?
There have been several reports over the months of people having trouble connecting to one manufacturers routers..........may be Belkin, but a cannot remember for sure. Also, if you are trying to connect to wireless N at 5GHz, try wireless G instead. I believe the Atrix will not connect at 5GHz, and the symptoms of trying to do so are exactly what you describe. If I try to connect to my router on the 5GHz wireless N band I get the same results as you. One other possibility is the password length. I have read that you should keep it under 8 characters with the Atrix, so maybe try shortening the password, or try connecting unsecured to test this theory out. I am using an Asus RT-N66U right now, but have previously used 2 Netgear routers without issue also. My work uses Cisco repeaters and routers and I have no issues there either.
