Problem with computer recognizing internal memory - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My computer will no longer mount my internal memory when I connect my Atrix to my PC. It recognizes the sd card, but not the internal memory. Does anyone know why this might have happened and how to correct it?

I had this problem but in reverse, when I installed cm7, my computer didn't recognize my sd card. Found out it was a drive mapping issue as the default drive letter was being used on my network. I solved this by right clicking on "my computer", then click "manage", then "disk management". Look in the window and find your device, you can identify it by the size. Right click on it and choose change drive letter. Make it something like K or L. It should then show up. Hope that works. You do have mass storage clicked on don't you?

Thanks for the response. I do have mass storage on when I try to connect to my PC. Im going to try what you suggested.
Thanks again.

I have a similar problem from time to time, my PC will only mount the external SD Card. Generally when this happens, it's because I have an app open that's got a file lock somewhere on the internal card (e.g. Root Explorer, Music Player, Samba File Sharing, a downloading file...). I use Go Launcher EX and select "Close All Programs" in the app panel, and this generally let's my computer mount the internal card right away.

Thanks for the hint, I had this problem before but was unable to figure out why...
EDIT: when this happens (PC unable to mount sd card or internal memory), I used to use "adb" to push files to phone instead... this is a workaround of the above issue, though it's somewhat cumbersome.

Accessing microsd card when connected to computer

Hey!
Again sorry for the possibly Noob question...I searched and didn't find anything.
How do I access my microsd card when it is installed in the GTab and the GTab is connected to my Windows 7 laptop?
This is driving my sort of crazy...there has to be a better way than swapping from the GTab to a card reader!
Thanks in advance!
Pat
As far as I know your computer only sees the internal Sdcard. I'm running VEGAn, not sure if it does it that way on other Roms.
I use ES File Explorer or Astro to move files from sdcard to sdcard2.
Get a microSD to SD adapter and physically plug it in...you can also get some "empty" USB sticks that will take a microSD card for the memory...
I just carry one around in my laptop bag and when I need to transfer files (music, video) to the external card, I pop it out of the tablet and into the converter...
How do I transfer playlists to the microSD card from my computer using Winamp?
Yep, unfortunately the only way to access the physical micro SD card is to remove it and use some sort of separate card reader (I'm using my DSLR camera!).
I also read somewhere that you have to shut down the tablet before removing the SD card and replace it before booting up again. Otherwise there may be issues (which I had) with the tablet recognizing the card. Not sure how broadly this issue applies but as rebooting is so quick I just do it to be safe.
Is there a way to mount sdcard2 to sdcard (like Galaxy Tab does?)
I used Multi Mount SD Card Lite (in market) to mount sdcard2 when usb is connected. It worked very well on TNT lite, however I haven't yet used it on Vegan, but I imagine it will work as well.
The app requires root access, and uses a widget to enable/disable mounting. It claims to be able to mount both sdcard and sdcard2 simultaneously, however I have yet to see that work.
Can't post a link, but simply search "Multi Mount SD-Card" in market.
Problem is that the Micro SD card is very hard to get in and out. You almost need a special tool to push down on the edge of the card to activate the spring release. Possibly a plastic stylus from an old PDA could be the "tool" to pop the Micro SD card out. - Craig

That's really a Winamp question, and may depend on your computer.
It's certainly not a g-Tablet question.

agreed. I found this out too the hard way, but works great on vegan! I hit a widget and my sdcard mounts perfectly.
The Multi Mount SD Card Lite works great. Just using the free version and it works exactly how we would want it. Just remember to use the widget instead of the Android USB connection.
Thanks for the heads up on this app!

gtablet recognizes sdcard as internal memory and sdcard2 as microsd card?

my gtablet recognizes the folder sdcard as a folder in the internal memory and the microsd as sdcard2 for some reason. when i plug it into my computer, i cant access the actual sdcard2 folder, so i cant access the micro sd. anyone have any experience with this? or any fixes?
thanks a lot. im running tntlite 4.4.0 on it.
That is how it is supposed to be on most ROMs...not just TnT
Pull out the microSD card, plug it into an adapter and plug the adapter into your computer. Then you will be able to read and transfer files!
Or just copy whatever you need to the SDCARD and use a File Manager to transfer them to SDCARD2 once you are on the tablet...
Right now, there is no way to mount both SDCARD and SDCARD2 at the same time to your computer via the tablet
Actualy there are a few apps on Market that do exactly that; some are add supported so you can try for free. Search for SDCard Mount or MutiMount.
I use the add supported Multi Mount SD-Card. Works fine.
SDcard2 dead!

I'd be careful using these. I got one out of the market that allowed you to access the external sd card. Everything went fine. I copied some of my music to the card and then disconnected from the pc. When I went to look at the sdcard2 folder via RootExplorer, I found that 2.39 GB of my 32GB card was used but could not access anything on the card. Now, my g-tab refuses to even see that I have an external card installed and I can't even get the format option in settings to attempt to rescue the card.

eek that sucks. which one did you use?
get ESfile explorer. you can move stuff back and forth between sdcards or a server location. you can also copy from lan location to sdcard2
is that on the market or somewhere else?
it also is installing all of my games and stuff to the tablet internal memory. liek the dungeon defenders stuff.. all of it is downloaded onto the tablet sdcard folder, not onto the sdcard (sdcard2). anyone have any workaround for that?

I'll respond and say it was Multi Mount SD-Card. That's the one I tried, with the same results. I can not get the GTab to read an external card at all. Can see card fine on PC though. I would surely stay away from that one.
I use file explorer to move to the SD Card. THis is a pita and a waste of time. The fastest thing to do is to put it in an SDCARD reader and place it in the PC.
This would be a nice fix and an app worth a buck or two.

SD Card and HTC Storage problem

After unlocking my bootloader and flashing Aman Recovery, I can't access my external SD card through my computer. Instead my phone gives me access to HTC Storage. Any ideas on how I would go about fixing this?
When I plug in, I get HTC storage and external SD mounted separately.

Usually three things pop up on the computer. internal sd. removable sd, and a CD thing.
I rename the ISO file in /system/etc to eliminate the CD popup (requires root)
Maybe try reinstalling the HTC drivers on the pc and reboot the computer.
Also check that your phone is not in charge-only mode when connected to the computer.
I reinstalled the HTC drivers and had no success. I can access my SD card through my phone, i.e looking at pictures in Gallery. However I still get HTC Storage and a CD drive thing.

when the phone is connected to the computer you should see a special icon on the top of your screen. if you pull down on the notification screen you should see if it is in charging only mode, or if it is allowing sdcard disk access. the access can easily be changed.
but if you see nothing special in the notification area then you have a bad cable, bad phone, or a pc problem.
When I choose disk drive I'm still getting HTC Storage and no access to my external SD card. Is there a way to switch memory access?
if you get access to the internal sd, then look in it for a folder called ext_sd which points to the removable sd card

Insure that the usb option is checked for cd drive
also the power option fastboot is off
I think there may be another option but the old man has a senior moment.

EXT SD not recognized by MTP or on droid

Hi all,
Having a strange issue atm, for some reason when I connect my phone to my PC (win7 x64, latest drivers installed) it does not recognize the external SD card. Autoplay opens and shows a normal window for the Internal SD and a 2nd window opens but it contains no options. The External SD card doesn't get mounted and can't be read/written to.
On the android doubletwist would play music from the external SD but no filemanagers (IO or Rootbrowser) could see the external card there was no reference anywhere in android, even in CWM.
. I removed the card, rebooted, replaced and rebooted. Now doubletwist can "see" the ext card but won't show any songs or build a library, filemanagers can also explore the card (which seems fine) BUT it still doesn't show in windows or under storage.
So how does one fix this? It seems [the SD card] is partially working, I am currently running AOKP R25 Preview 5 for i9100

check the link below for remountSd app
RemountSD
Used RemountSD as linked and MultiMount SD card from the store, neither worked.
RemountSD gives the following from the log:

EDIT: SOLVED To some extent
For some reason it's working now (no restart, just started working) I'll keep fiddling but it seems one of the apps has managed to mount it right. Thanks for putting me on the right track!

Can't download files. "No external storage available"

Hey guys. I have CWM 6.0 and the CM10 ROM from here and I love it. However, whenever I open Gallery, or try to download a file, I can't and get the message "No external storage available". I don't have an SD card inserted, however my NT has an internal SD card (I'm guessing the recovery partition) of 1 GB, and I've tried un/remounting that, and the message still exists. Can you guys help?
Several apps insist on external sd-cards. So the simplest solution is to just insert an sd-card!
I don't know if it's possible to fiddle with the void (I think that's the name...) file or something like that to make the internal storage show up as external. I know that was possible in CM7, but I haven't been bothered enough to look around for it. I just have a small (1GB) card inserted just to keep those apps (for example Swiftkey) happy.

Awesome, that works. I guess I need to buy a new SD card then haha. One other question...My computer doesn't seem to detect the internal storage of the Nook (or the SD card) when connected via USB. It just shows up as Removable Device and when I click on it, I get the message "Please insert device". Is there a fix for that? I'd like to transfer music to the Nook and not have to take out the SD card everytime.
When you connect the NT to the PC there should be a small notification in the notification bar. It says something "USB connected". Tap that and then you probably get to another screen where you get prompted to "turn on USB" storage or something like that. Once that is done you will have access to the SD-card and the user patition of the internal storage.
