[Q] Battery life. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Love my SG2 to bits, however, I dont seem to be able to find a rom that is battery friendly.... Any suggestions?
I am on 2.3.4, so what do others think is better to improve battery life, upgrade andriod or find a better rom.... if the latter, which do people think is the best performing one

Whichever makes you stop using your phone.

I'll try to save this doomed thread with a nice music: [Download]

Quote of the month.
Have always favoured Aosp roms. I'm currently using Insanity rom with Void kernel and am getting outstanding results.

Need a rom that suits my needs

Ok before we start , forgive me for starting another thread about asking for roms , but my problem is that i was gonna go and download the axura rom but the site where you download it from is down , gives me a 404 error , and i had my mind set on that rom but since its down , im looking for another rom that can replace it , my phone is rooted and no roms have been put in it.
Im looking for a rom with customization. e.g themes , alot of lock screens , the notification bar is different and icons and etc , and im looking for performance as well and decent battery life that can get me through the day.
If anyone can recommend me a rom that would be greatly appreciated, and please post links.
Thanks in advance and sorry for posting another topic about this.
give it time, and all youre going to have is a list of all the roms on the first page of Vibrant Development section.
all these threads generate is opinion. and the reason for that is because there is no definitive answer to any of your questions. which rom has best performance? one person might say Axura, one person might say CM7. Which rom has best battery? One might say Trigger, another might say Bi-Winning.
Realistically, there is no way to gauge universal performance/battery life for a rom because it all depends on the user. Me and you could both be running Trigger with Bali kernel, one of us might get 10 hrs of life, the other might get 18hrs.
as far as themes go, just go to the themes section and look around.
as far as lockscreens, most roms that are kept up to date have all the same lockscreens. once a lockscreen is released, devs usually inject them into their roms.
hope this helps. theres no point in anybody giving you advice, because its going to based off personal opinion which wont help you. what is good for one, might suck for another.
every person who starts these types of threads wants the same thing: customization, battery, signal, performance, speed, etc. >>> yes, welcome to the club. these are all things that most roms try to acheive. if there was a "perfect" rom out there that did all these things absolutely flawlessly with perfect balance, then the Vibrant would only have one rom.

just keep in mind, if GPS is important, i wouldnt recommend a Gingerbread ROM. All GB roms either have broken, or semi-working, GPS. this is due to lack of drivers.

Not entirely true...while you still can't turn GPS off without having to reboot to get it back on I've seen reports that GPS is in fact as good even better than it was on froyo. And since GPS only uses battery when its actually being used there is no need to ever turn it off.
All the rest of your points are spot on. Choosing a rom is a matter of taste and experience. Even finding that perfect rom for you is a fleeting experience. Luckily we here on the Vibrant forums have plenty to keep us happy.
Good luck.

It will be worth the wait. It comes with bullet kernel which you can overclock if thats your thing. Honestly its been so fast and smooth I havent seen any reason to tho.

Under ideal situations it doesn't run in the background, but when it fails to start, it seems to be actually looping in the background, running, and causing the battery drainage (which we're stuck with until a Vibrant leak)

In the long run, though, I would say Cyanogenmod will be the best, when Samsung moves on to support newer phones, and "forgets" about SG2...

This is true. However, deep inside I really wish to ask that as I tried so many and so hard to decide.
Here's a quick breakdown
Cognition
- smooth
- why I dislike: The feel of the UI (self preference)
Litening 4.1
- GREAT
- really fast in speed
- why I dislike: been too long see-ing blue colour
VillianROM
- GREAT
- smooth UI, fun to play, many tweaks according to your liking
- why I dislike: seeing too much green robot is boring (if you get what I mean)
Exynos Extreme
- current favourite
- very smooth, like the part where the author actually remove unwanted apps for us
- downside: 3.4 is a little buggy (can't copy and paste), 3.3 is smooth and GREAT
Generally, Litening 4.1 give good battery life. Exynos too but I am using Exynos with SpeedMOD so a little different here.
There you go

It's a fair question but prbably should have asked which ROM people prefer. I hate it when people get flamed for asking which ROM people like best. Some of us don't have the time to download every ROM out there and just want to hear others' opinions..
Keep the opinions coming - I want to be tempted away from stock!

I got to agree. Some reason, it felt unique compared to Litening and the rest. Not sure why though.
The best ROM is subjective and will probably change within a week of this question been asked.

undervolting has a lot to do with battery life. especially ask laptop owners with core 2 duo's what undervolting does. don't spread false information because you're not impressed or it didn't meet your expectations.

ya you can change the kernal of ur choice there is no rule that you have to use the kernal that comes with the rom. you can try speedmods kernal if you want battery life is your priority or go for ninphetamine kernel if you want OC/UV.
So far I found VillainROM + SpeedMod kernel giving me the best battery life, might even be better with undervolting and Black Android theme, but since this ROM doesn't support undervolting and I love my current theme, I haven't tried them.

Try them and find out. People are always asking questions like this and they just get a bunch of people telling you what ROM they use. Trying them yourself is the only way you will ever get an answer to your question.
Most people don't bother and just end up using what the majority uses, cos that's the advice they were given. May as well buy an iPhone if that's what you're gonna do

Completely agree. You should try all the ROMs that interest you (look at the features they have and compare them), use them for a coule of days each. It could be for example that you try a ROM that you love because of its features but can't stand because of the theme, or the other way around, you love how it looks like but it's feature-poor. The only way to know these things for sure is to see for yourself.
In my case, I've only tried the Leomar75 Revolution from those 3, and I think that one would be a safe choice, but maybe you could wait a little for it because v2.7 was just released yesterday and is still having some bugs (there is a new version 2.7.1 that appears to be working good but I don't know). I personally love the ROM, (I used v2.6) and will definitively try the XXKI3 version in a couple of days (or even sooner).

Can't really go wrong with SHOstock3. It's rock solid. Great battery life.
Person a uses his phone to watch videos and Facebook constantly. Person b uses his phone to text and watch the occasional video and has all his email syncing along with exchange services. Person c uses his phone to look at pron. I mean there is no best rom or battery efficient one because, a stated above, everyone's different. Try a few and see what suits your needs.

Ok here's the thing. For battery life, a KH7-based Gingerbread rom can't be beat. If you want the features and fluidity of a Jellybean rom, however, all the big ones are pretty similar as far as battery life goes, but, and I can't stress this enough, it depends entirely on how you use the phone.
Now, I understand that this is your wife's phone, and as such, you can't flash a new rom on it every three days. However, that's what it would take for you to determine which rom will give her the best battery life. I'm sorry, but that's the way it works.

Off topic, if you don't care about it, what make you think we care? Let your wife cares hers, and if you care for her phone, we still don't care.
On topic, as someone has already given an example of its dependency, I guess you still don't get it. It isn't a joke, it's real. Now to answer directly to your questions: yes, I am using "a Jellybean rom" now. Which one? it's you to find out. Do I have good battery life with it? Yes, with massively heavily usage for 24 hours straight, it has 33% left in the tank.
you know i guess its to hard for some people just to say:
there is no one rom that gets much better battery than another rom... they are all pretty much the same on your battery
if you want the best battery go with gingerbread or ics, if you want the new smoother jelly bean your battery will suffer most
Yeah, I don't understand the heat the OP took for the question. I understood the premise and 2 folks in here answered it nicely but generally said the same as everyone else.
Probably because this same Question Is asked every week or so here and is answered the exact same way. Eventually after answering the same question a hundred times it gets annoying when he or anyone could have found this information by a simple search. Battery life is of course as it has always been: subject to individual usage patterns.
Crazy what a search function in a forum will dig up... you'll find all your answers answered. On the other hand before I switched to task650 4.2.2 I was using Sho3, which hands down had the best batt life I've ever seen on any ROM- including the task650:cyclops:
