I'm afraid I screwed up and would appreciate your help. My newly purchased Photon is stuck in reboot loop. It reaches the end of Sprint graphics and then immediately reboots.
What I've done:
1) Rooted the phone
2) Unlocked bootloader
3) Flashed 2.3.4-4.5.1A Stock ROM
4) Flashed CWM
----- phone was still OK at this point -------
5) Flashed Home Base ROM 1.7B ext4
------phone wouldn't boot properly --------
6) Reflashed 2.3.4-4.5.1A Stock ROM through RSDLite
What I've tried:
1) Different USB port
2) Taking out the battery for 5 minutes
3) Flashing CM3 Stock ROM
The end result is the same. RSDLite completes, saying "manually power up your phone", but the phone is just stuck in the loop.
Thanks for your help.
Make sure you wipe data/cache/ etc. before flashing ROMs.
Next time please post in the General section.
Thanks for the reply. Sorry about the wrong section.
Can you please clarify about clearing cache/data/etc. I've done it before flashing Home Base (also HB ROM does it during install anyway). If you mean to do it before flashing through RSDLite, how do I do so if CWM is no longer there?

remove the battery put back in then press vol down and power till you see fastboot at the top of the screeen..scroll down till you see android recovery. once that is visible press the up key it will start recovery and you will see tux with a triangle...from there press both vol keys to get into the recovery. from there you will be given similar options to that of cwm. do a full wipe
Copy and pasted from a Yay 4 juggs post
Thank you bricky and mrinehart. That did the trick.

bricky...I am an idiot and you just saved me. I was already on craigslist looking for a new phone when I found this post. I had flashed the sbf 154_5 and 198_7 like 5 times each before I finally cleared data and cache.
sorry to bring up an old thread and in the wrong section but what to do if the android recovery option and safe mode option do not work?
So I was walking my girlfriend through rooting her new Evo3D, and we couldn't get the phone to get past the 'MI' logo, so I figured it was a kernel thing. After four kernels and two versions of MIUI I realized that it wasn't the issue, it was the hboot.
She didn't back up, she has only had it since last night. I now know what I need to do to flash the ROM, but how can I get her back to stock so I can get the app needed?
Any help?
She has HBOOT 1.5, right?
Go back to the folder where you did all the rooting. Get the stock MIUI kernel (boot.img from the flashable zip) and place it in that folder. Open up a cmd and navigate to that folder.
Boot her phone into fastboot mode. (Vol down + power while the phone is off. Hit power button to select fastboot once it goes into bootloader) Plug the phone into the computer via USB
Type 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' in the kernel. If it successfully flashes, you are done! MIUI should boot up now that it has the appropriate kernel. You will need to do this for any ROM you flash.
As long as you have a recovery, just flash whatever rom you want through fastboot and the kernel will stick.
Or just download a stock rooted rom and flash that the same way you just tried to flash MIUI. It will work since you still have the original kernel.

Well, ROM's cant be flashed through fastboot. The ROM is flashed through recovery. Then you go to fastboot and flash the kernel with my guide above. After that, everything should be working fine.

Hopefully this works! Shes at church right now but I will have her do this ASAP and I'll report back!
(Awesome response time BTW)
Roms are flashed through fastboot just by loading your recovery into fastboot.
I never flash roms and kernels separately. Just go into fastboot, load your recovery, and flash as you normally would.

I had something similar when flashing MIUI. if you boot the recovery.img from fastboot it should work. you may want to re download just in case of a bad download.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
I'm having the same problem as epicchase. have attempted to flash miui many times. at first i tried to do it through my recovery. it didn't work. then i tried to use the fast boot method and flash it from the recovery that i opened from fast boot. i'm quite frustrated. it just wont boot miui, is it the kernel, i'm new to rooting in general but i think i know what i'm doing. i have spent who knows how many hours trying everything i can. i tried flashing the boot.img and the ROM separately. I have successively flashed android revolution hd, but that's no fun, its nearly the same as the stock ROM any suggestions would be appreciated. it boots but i guess it must be a boot loop but idk all i know is it freezes in the middle of the boot animation.
ps. i am rooted using the htc official method (unfortunately) and am s-on)

Did you do a full wipe before you flashed? Find Virus's Superwipe tool (.zip), boot to recovery with fastboot, flash the superwipe.zip, then flash MIUI.

well it didn't work it did the same exact thing. I've been giving it about 10 mins to attempt to boot is that long enough? I'm new to non sense roms I've only ever used sense, is there something I'm forgetting to do that is different for non sense roms. *frustration* (and i thought i was beginning to understand this)
---------- Post added at 09:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:46 PM ----------
okay well i tried to flash cyanogenmod 7 still no dice. I must be an idiot, sorry for being a noob.
this is what im doing.
im placing the .zip on root of my sd card. then opening my cmd.
i then type " cd c:\android" (i saved the recovery image in a folder named android) it says
"c:\android" just as it should i then type "fastboot boot recovery.img"
it restarts my phone in recovery
i press install .zip from sd card then click wipe cache and dalvik cache it goes and does its work
i then select the superwipe.zip it says flash compete however it says error or something but i just kind of ignored it.
i then select my miui.zip that i got from www.miui.us
i then select install .zip files the first thing that comes up is "md5 check fail- ignoring" and the continues and flashes (i have no clue what that part means but i continue anyway)
i select reboot and it starts to boot my phone i get the white screen with green htc.
i then get the miui boot animation for anywhere from 2-5 seconds and then it freezes.
i sit and nearly just stare at it and the clock. i wait at least 5 mins but have waited up to 30 mins.
the boot animation never restarts i just freezes there making me think it is not a boot loop (however the definition of an actual bootloop is slightly vague to me.)
anyway thanks for reading and if you have any suggestions i will be very happy for now im just gonna run my android revolution hd rom.
If superwipe isn't working, fastboot to recovery, go to the wipe menu, not install a zip, wipe dalvik, cache, and factory reset. Don't do the factory reset in android, do it in recovery. I'm guessing you got a corrupt download of superwipe, I would redownload it and try it again if I were you.
Try using this one.

OK heres my situation. Last night right before work I flashed jokers jb cm10 rom over a factory reset of cm7 and all was good, except google play kept trying to download random things in my pocket and heating up while I worked. As a reflex I turned on airplane mode to cool it down and save battery. And just like that I had absolutely no data whatsoever. I tried reflshing cm10. Nothing. I tried the data fix. Nothing. I flashed peetrs v4, twice. Nothing. I had to wait my whole shift to get home to sbf this thing to new. I went on the compendium and downloaded 1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN_198_7-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US.zip. I installed the drivers unzipped the sbf and opened rsd-lite and waited for it to connect. When I flashed it everything went smoothly until it said manually power on the device. It did not boot for 5 mins. I then went on a stupid flashing frenzy. I flashed derpunlock then I flashed the 198_7 radio and it wouldnt boot. In my final act of noobishness I flashed peetrs unlocktwrp sbf . Now it will instantly power off when I boot it with vol- and if I boot it with usb attached it will go into rsd mode. This rsd mode is semu functional. It begins to flash but gets gets stuck on switching modes (i can manually switch by doing a battery pull) and bp passthrough is stuck on 0. I can get into fastboot if I hold volume+ while booting. Any help is greatly appreciated (unless it involves permalocking my bootloader).

Hmm, I am trying to understand your situation, but it's not easy.
Did you wipe data after flashing full 198_7 sbf?
This all thing after that full sbf flashing, looks to me more like some usb problem or what? Did you try different computer?
Do you have failed to boot 3 now?
If you flashed that unlock sbf with twrp, you should go directly in recovery and wipe data and you can try to flash some other rom.
I was unable to boot after 198_7 so I was not able to wipe data. I tried different usb ports, does the same thing. It says failed to boot 3 now. How do I get into recovery as the menu at boot is not available (screen shuts off as I try to scroll through the options) fastboot and rsd kinda work.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
So try to flash full 198_7 sbf and write me, how it goes.
1st screen
SVF : 108:1:2
Failed to boot 3
Starting RSD mode
Flashing now
Now says
SVF : 108:1:2
Failed to boot 3
Starting RSD mode
SVF : 106:1:2
sec_exception: b655, exec, eb
I then powered it off to save battery as im sure its not charging
I saw this posthttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29585149 in another similar thread, how do I use fastboot to flash jokers v4 recovery?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Hmm, why failed to boot 3?
Could you try to decompile 198_7 sbf with sbf codec and try to flash stock recovery (CG58) with fastboot? Do not unlock yet.

Ok. When you will have some time, try to get familiar with the fastboot and decompiling sbf. There are some readings over here. Could you? Everything will be much easier to test then.
Ok I was finally able to decompile the sbf and I succesfully flashed the stock recovery
Good. Really.
And what's the status of your phone?
same as before still not booting, the fastboot cmd message said
sending 'recovery' (8192 KB)... OKAY ( 1.126s )
writing 'recovery' ... OKAY ( 0.954s )
so I assumed it was successful.
Yes it most probably was successful.
Are you absolutely sure, that you didn't flash any sv2 file?
Try to flash boot.img from the decompiled sbf.
I just looked in my downloads folder and to my horror I see 2.3.5sv2_198_7_radio.sbf
Would that have permalocked my bootloader?
Hmm, why am I writing that big red warning there?!
Yes. Your bootloader is permanently locked!
Oh, oh, oh.
No problem to unbrick that, but it's locked.
damn, all i wanted was to flash the radio. in my haste i must have ignored the warning assuming radios had nothing to do with bootloaders. Im gonna miss your hybrid rom
Oh well, this is why I have a Nexus 7.
should i follow this guide?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797787
Ok, let's forget this BIG mistake.
Actually I have locked version of my rom now.
If you are familiar enough with decompiling, I would suggest something different for you.
Recompiling USC_19 sbf only with boot.img, recovery.img, cdrom and system just to make it quickly reflashable.
Do you think that you can make it?
Or I will make it, but this would take long. (bad uploading speed)
is that the same thing in your thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798145) under "others"
Yes, except, that one is not containing system, but as I think about it, you should have 198_7 system installed right now, so it should boot after flashing this boot, recovery and cdrom sbf. Or you will have failed to boot 4, then you will have to make the same sbf with USC_19 system. Don't forget to wipe data.
now the battery finally got too low to flash, so I have to do the usb trick to charge it. will try again in an hour or so
Ok.
Hi Guys
So I recently got this tablet second hand, and I wanted to root
So I did some searching but finding a guide with all files available, and ready for use was impossible, and those that did have files available, there methods didnt work
So I tried installing a custom recovery (CWM) with Odin, it succeeded, however, I could help but notice in all the videos it said COM 4, but mine said COM 3...?
So I flashed the appropriated CWM to my device, then I rebooted, power + volume up, select recovery, then I waited,
as soon as I selected the down button, the screen stays on for a couuple of seconds and then goes off, and stays like that, so I booted up, tried a few other methods which all failed...
Now, after I selected factory wipe/reset in the OS (keep in mind, I am not able to enter recovery at all), the device hanged for quite a while, no reboot, nothing... So I held in the power button, the device rebooted showing the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 logo and went black, nothing afterwards...!
So Now I can only access the downloading part of recovery, I have no bootabiliy or recovery, only downloading ablity
Even if I try downloading with odin, if I try flash a recovery, it says COM 5 now, and it hangs on <Setup Connections>, I did briefly get COM 4 however, it had 2 com ports open, COM 3 and COM 4, of COM5 and COM 4... COM 4 was always second on the list
Any Advice, anyone???

The com port in Odin shouldn't matter... in my experience It will just show one up in yellow and you're good to go.
What Android version was you on to begin with... and are you sure you used the correct files..
I'll hunt up some info for you.. but I believe you can download a recovery for the device( even if it's a zip )and extract it.. then use Odin to flash the the recovery image.. I'm not positive so let me check before you go flashing... I'll get on it today as I'm off work and we'll get ya back up today..

I'm sorry but I have no idea about a stable rom as I don't have this device... but CM 10.1 on droidbasement looks solid... and has LTE function.. but you first need to be on the latest stock ICS rom and modem to flash it and have LTE work..
As for recoveries... I would imagine pershoots recovery ( cwm 6 ) would be the most stable... I use TWRP recovery but I'm not sure if a version for you're device exist... our recoveries are seperate so one recovery might work for all... I'm not sure..
As for calls... I think there is a mods for ICS roms to make calls in the development thread...
Good Luck and keep me posted... on a side note... I might have found a way to root you're device and stay stock and have cwm recovery.. let me know if you want the link..
OK so first of, the phone is not rooted, nor have, the boot loader unlocked, and don't have a custom recovery (although if I can get out of the hole I'm stuck in, I'll proceed to do that).
"So now for the actual problem. Awhile back my power button stopped working, but o figure ways around that. Then, yesterday, I was listening to music and my phone just shut off (no it didn't die) and turned back on but it just stayed at the at&t boot animation and stayed like that until it died. After I plugged it in, it turned on and wouldn't go passed the Samsung animation."
Is there any way to reset the phone? Thanks.
You didn't say which version of stock you were running. Assuming the issue is firmware and not a hardware issue, and it sounds like firmware from your description, you should be able to re-flash stock using Odin and get it to boot. You can find the various stock distributions in the Download Repository (see the link in my signature.) Regardless of the version of stock you were running, I would suggest that you flash the latest stock, I777UCMD8, Jelly Bean 4.1.2. You will need to boot into stock 3e recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset before you flash.
The bootloaders are not locked. The recovery is compiled into the kernel, so to install a custom recovery, you must install a custom kernel. For UCMD8 that would be AJK v4.9 NoSwap.
Feel free to ask questions if you don't understand. You should be able to find enough guidance from previous posts in this forum.

It's not actually my phone, but a friends and I was describing the problem (I forgot to put quotations. They're there now) but I assume it's the newest stock version. I've noticed that I cant seem to boot onto recovery. When the phone is off and I try to boot into recovery (by powering on and holding down both volume buttons, right?) It goes to from the Samsung boot animation to a blank screen and back again (and back to the Samsung animation repeatedly). Is there a way (like with my phone [Atrix HD]) to boot into recovery by an emulator command from the computer?

When u r trying the buttom combo to get into recovery, don't have the micro usb plugged into the phone and connected either to power or a pc.

There is an adb command that "should" work in bootloop situations. But u need to have had the phone option of Debugging checked in then Settings of the phone already. And adb installed on ur pc. The command from a pc is adb wait-for-device reboot recovery

The correct sequence to enter recovery is, from phone off, hold down all three buttons, vol+ vol- and pwr, until the first boot screen (probably rethink possible) appears, then goes black then appears a second time, then release the buttons. If you tried that and it bootloops, you can flash stock through Odin without performing a wipe data/factory reset, then see if you can boot into recovery.
If that does not get the phone going, then we should assume nand read/write corruption, for which there is a specific sequence to flash. So let us know how it goes.
