ROM Factory
What is ROM Factory?
Its a tool that will allow the user to create a picture perfect .img from your boot and system partition. It will then create an update.zip from it.
What is a "Fruit Cake"?
A fruit cake is the finish product, a self contain rom, already ready for installation, already inside an update.zip.
So really what does it do?
It allows a bootloader unlocked user to create a full copy of their boot and system partition. All of it, including mods and changes done to either one of those partitions.
Can this be use for easier rom development?
Yes! Beyond just its normal capabilities! After installing the resources you can modify the script and add things to it in *sdcard* /fcm/workdir! Once you are done adding and changing things in there, press "Create ROM".
Supported Devices:
olympus (atrix), sunfire (photon), triumph, WX435, fb0 (triumph), p999 (lg g2x), p990 (lg o2x), p970 (lg optimus black), ace (htc desired hd), pyramid (htc sensation), galaxys2, GT-I9100, GT-I9100M, GT-I9100T, SGH-I777, SGH-I727, hercules, crespo (nexus s), crespo4g (nexus s 4g), toro (cdma galaxy nexus), maguro (gsm galaxy nexus)
Experimental Support:

Your phone must be rooted!
Step One: Press the Install Resources button on screen.
Patience this step could take up to 5 minutes.
Step Two: Press the Create Fruit Cake button on the screen.
Patience this step could take up to 5 minutes.

I was thinking the same thing, and also the fact that it could potentially lead to a ton of useless roms.

Hmmm... by all means mod please do move this to the appropriate sub-forum ( themes and apps ).

this a tool to aid in development, it goes in the development forum!
this does not bend the laws of physics giving every person in the world the capabilities of creating a rom, it just help those that are beginning. i would like to point out that this forum is already full of useless roms. considering this phone has been around quite sometime and the development forum only has 86 threads, i suggest folks should use this app!
I would like to point out the "Recognize Developer" saw the usefulness of the app. Instead of flaming and making inappropriate comments people should learn to support development.
I have put many days of effort into making this app, If is not appreciate it please let me know and i will end support to a platform i dont even own.
Go figure, the one forum with no development what so ever wants to complaint when help comes there way!

I'm not complaining shhh I'm just getting started theming and I was thinking all day how I could start my own rom thanks tho

i couldnt agree more man right on,this helps people like me looking to make his own stuff and start being apart of the system instead being one of those *****ing because a Dev is taking to long etc etc,Thanks man for tools all newbies could start helping the device world.

So basically this just gives you the ability to generate a flashable update.zip of your system? Am I correct?

Yes, boot and system. And in the future also apks.
The idea is that you can manually apply any mod you would like to include into the the current ROM, and generate an installation file.

I see...so if it doesn't include apps in the zip what does the "rom" include as far as apps once its generated and flashed?

Will this program allow us fine enough controls as to be able to create sub catagories in Settings like Cyanogenmod and other ROM's have? Or does this basically just make a flashable fresh install style .zip to distribute?
Sent from my CM7 Unlocked Electrify.

I'm curious as to how you mod your current rom with this app, much appreciated for app!
Sent from my MB855 using XDA Premium App

Im curious how it handles symlinking. If it works properly it would definitely bring alot to the table. I work alot so my time is limited and testing on the go is required. If this works i can make test builds without using astro. Of course ill always end up releasing the old fashion way.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App

Making changes by flashing mods and deleting/changing apks. Changing settings and when youre happy with your phone it makes a rom, hopefully.

[APP] Kernel Manager released!

Kernel Manager released! Lite (free): http://tinyw.in/0i8, Pro (cost): Available in the Market ENJOY!
Hey everyone! I wanted to introduce a new app with a very simple but ambitious goal: create a place where all kernel developers can submit kernels easily and reach a much wider audience with ease.
The app currently does this:
1) Downloads a kernel from our fast and stable teamwin server
2) Unzips the relevant files (modules included)
3) Flashes the kernel
4) Installs the kernel modules
5) Clears cache/dalvik-cache
6) Reboots to apply the changes.
This entire process takes less than a minute, generally, (depending on download speeds of course ), and it is extremely simple for end-users to find a kernel, filter by kernel features (BFS, CFS, HAVS, SBC, etc) download/install kernels, and submit ratings for their favorite kernels.
If you use IRC, join us in freenode in #kernel-manager!
In order for this to be a success, we need support from kernel developers like YOU! Submitting a kernel to Kernel Manager is totally free and we even provide hosting for you! Right now I'm looking for kernel developers to submit kernels to start populating the app. Submitting kernels is easy!
THE LINK IS FOR KERNEL DEVELOPERS SPECIFICALLY! Go to http://kernels.teamw.in and register for an account! Once it's approved, you can easily enter new kernels, which immediately show up in the app. The app will be released in the market, and there will be a free+ad supported version, and a for-cost version that removes the ads.
Right now, we have a specific list of supported phones, but plan to add every nand-unlocked phone as soon as possible. (There are a lot of variables to account for on multiple devices to make sure the process works )
Please feel free to provide me with any feedback you have, or feature requests in order to make this a great tool for all of android to utilize!

Just a few comments:
1.) Device doesn't show passion target.
2.) If I have multiple kernel releases, how will it get organized?
Love the idea and hope the kernel devs do too!
just out of curiosity- shouldn't battery stats be wiped off aswel?? great concept for a project though.. best of luck guys

1) I'm getting the new list of devices into the db soon(tm)!
2) We are working on a method to allow kernel devs to easily upload batches of multiples. It's a very complex problem that needs an elegant solution.

Wanna do something cool - My xPlay needs to stand out

Hey guys.
I'm not the only one among my friends who has the play anymore. I used to be cool person when i showed them some emulators and stuff. Yes my friends are r-tards and didn't know how to get emulators and so on. bla bla bla.
What I'm trying to say is that i wanna do something cool with my xPlay. A hack, a mod or anything like that. I wanna be able to say "Oh yeah? but can your play do THIS?!". And no I'm not gay or anything, just trying to have some fun with my friends.
I'm one 2.3.3 and rooted. And that's pretty much it.
So do you guys have any cool suggestions?
What about this. This is my play and i think its xool. Especially love the status bar icons etc.

Well unless you are suggesting that you are going to develop something (say a screen-sharing over USB-Debug kernel module and app controls to PC) Some physical mod or theming/app thing isn't really Dev work.
Development (to my knowledge, correct me if I'm wrong) is more for OS, kernel, unlocking, and low-level stuff. Possibly for app/code development of an app or module that requires lots of Device specific coding. Beyond that, it should be in General, or possibly in the Apps/Themes section.
(sorry to rebump this with my response)

Yeah i know. But i'm not looking for a new theme. I'm looking for a modification. Like for example: I had an iphone before, and you couldn't use multitasking on it (like 1,5 years ago), but with the help of some mods and jailbreak you could. That's the type of stuff i'm looking for, cool modification. AND THATS why I posted this thread here in the development part of the forum. I know it was wrong because i'm writing a question, but maybe mods will let this one slip for a change

Predictive dialer for cm7

Hi all,I know the new builds by Erwin and cobje have this feature now but if like myself your not using them builds but still want the predictive dialer feature then here's the solution. Replace existing contacts.apk with this
http://db.tt/meIiMSaw
I used esfile manager for the process.
Remember to reboot after.
scratch has kindly made a flashable zip,ive not tested this myself but i trust scratch totally.
"Make sure you mount the system and disable signature verification in recovery as I just made it using root explorer on my phone so the zip isn't signed."
http://db.tt/YRpO3jmR
Thanks to Arco,Erwinp, cobje and scratch for the zip.

Now then anakin!! You are partly to blame lol. It all started with this GPS patch which I noticed last night and then your comment this morning,so I tried it and Bam!!!! GPS none existant, tried flashing radio, no joy and then accidents happen.....button bashing lol Aaaaaargh!!!! Realization of what I'd done. 1st time silly mistake but to do it again after set up once more was just plain dumb. Haha.I'm gonna stick with my 15 seconds gps lock on and stop messing with cwm.
P.s what's this rom you've done for yourself? I'm intrigued!!!

I used the Google specific flashable zip and it worked first time without any problems at all.
The Rom is just a stock froyo Rom a few extras that I use like a2sd script etc, all the crap I don't use removed and a few visual mods, transparent status bar and bottom bar new icons, lockscreen etc etc.......
Its far from complete but all the important things work and as I'm no dev and don't really know what I'm doing to fix anything, I won't be releasing a new froyo rom.
It's just for me to use till I get a new phone.

I did the same method only using esfilemanager,I didn't have to set permissions but long press on the apk and choose properties then change to rw-r-r and your filemanager needs to be system mounted and root enabled . Try again and if still not working then try deleting the old contacts then copy/paste the new one.

Well, it worked this time. I used esfilemanager instead of root explorer and it worked.

My main philosophy as a Rom Chef / Dev has always been performance tweaks with the ability to allow the user to customize.
On the SGH-t989 [T-Mobile GS2 Variant] I kept touchwiz optional, but modified it to allow the user the ability to customize as they saw fit.
On the Epic 4G, StarskyROM was the same way. Hella performance and battery savings, mods to allow customization, but absolutely no bulls*** overhtheming.
There is nothing worse than flashing a ROM that is amazingly well set up, only to find that the theming is HIDEOUS, and difficult to change.
I keep stock looks with minor UI tweaks.
I add custom init.d scripts, build.prop tweaks, framework edits, animation speed edits, battery saving scripts and then I post the first RC.
After the first Release Candidate i await feedback from the community. Where we go from there is up to them. That is what I believe is the best method for development work. Get your idea out there, let people use it and tear it apart, then suggest changes. It's the heart of open development :]
That being said, this will be Sense 3.6. This will include Rosie and her mods [eventually].
Thanks for your interest. It should be fun developing for a phone which I do not posess

I don't forsee a time when your phone won't have service.
However, if for some reason you didnt have service, your just restore a NANDROID backup of when you did. Problem solved :]
and yes jessfox is quite awesome.
I would love to be a tester. Please PM me if there is a slot available.
Id love to test I enjoyed foxstar beta testing on the t989 are you gonna have the same issue reporting system in place.

I just had to make sure I put that out there.... because most of these cool roms I see.... do not have radio signal.... like CM9 and Xboarder's ICS...
Just installed ICS (leaked version) today.... don't know how to root my phone lol... So I gotta wait now til we have a root for it... FML...

You have to unlock your bootloader at HTC.Dev and then just install a recovery and superuser and you are rooted.
Would like to test, I have HTC dev unlock, s-off, juopunut hboot, and currently running a sense 3.6 rom, not the leaked one, another one that is modded, with no hboot and recovery. Btw is this themed?

Probably got deleted for being in the wrong section, I think the sensation has this, so if we can get an AOSP kernel going from the source released even I can try to port it, though the great devs here would be able to do it with ease
, just give it a bit to bear fruit. :good:

Smh. Apparently it was "moved" by a Mod who messaged me but I searched for it and it was no where to be found.
Yeah, I think the Sensation does have it. I'm running it on my Nexus S 4G but I rather it be ran on my Amaze.
Lol thanks love. Looking forward to the development.
Wasn't rms porting it already ?

On the last thread that I had.
Rms said that the porting was started but I can't remember if it was being finished or pushed to the side.
He said he needed testers. Dunno if anyone took him up on it. It might be easier for him to test stuff if he had a device... And unlike some he's already doing some work for our device -_-

I'm working with 2 testers for the Droid Incredible 4G LTE. I can tell you this. Uploading a 550mb files multiple times and waiting for testers to go online and test them is a pain in the ass.

I was one of RMS' tester, and the last time I heard, he had to do a lot of work to get it into a working state.
Honestly would love to see this rom ported for my HTC Amaze

Well Devs, I really appreciate the time given and thoughts shared on this rom. I just hope to see it up and running soon.
We can't do it without you

passive aggressive comment ftw! I don't think you realize how much work is being put into the background to make the bigger projects EVERYONE wants into a working form.. most ports are easy if you choose the right device, if YOU are interested, I can send you a guide so you can make some offerings yourself, since I'm assuming you have a device to test on..
But just so you know, countless hours have been put into the big projects, even if you don't see progress.. and passive aggressive comments don't help anyone.
Also for you or anyone else, if you have something you want, and you can find some others who want it too - and it is a unique project that ACTUALLY offers something different, post it - sorta like this request thread! Otherwise the roms we have cover all the bases until we get cm9/10/aokp/sense4 working, which the new kernel source will really help with..

If you want I can show you how to make little flash ables that modify whatever your original rom release is. If the origin release didn't work properly, a small flashable flashed after that can make the changes you need.. then all you need is a quicker way to contact testers. But yea, you don't need to upload the whole thing every time..
