[Q] Stock rom, editing speed dial #1? - Motorola Photon 4G

Just got the new Photon today, and since it is a work phone I'll probably wait a whole week before rooting and screwing things up
Going through the basic config stuff and I want to change speed dial #1 from the default phone number to my Google voice number. I can't edit speed dial #1, delete it, or find where to change the number it is pointing at. Any ideas?

Just go to settings - call settings voicemail settings

dialing 1 for voicemail

for some reason i cant dial 1 for voicemail, knowing me i probably hit something and changed a setting. how can i make it work again?
thanks
I would recommend you turn on 1's for all calls not just voicemail. Go to Start -> Settings -> Phone -> Services Tab. Scroll down to Automatic Prepend and press Get Settings. Enable Automatic Prepend for a 1 in front of all of your outgoing calls.
If you only want to do it for voice mail, go to Start -> Settings -> Phone. The first entry is the number to call for voicemail. Throw a "1" in there.
He's not talking about dialing a 1 before the number, he's talking about holding down the 1 key to access voicemail. Not sure what the issue is, works fine for me. What dialer are you using?

Ahhh. I'll be quiet now.
the stock dialer with 3.35
I got the "2" working for voice mail but would be nice to have the 1 back, kinda used to it. Business is picking up alot and i need my voice mail waaaaaaa.
thanks gc, u2 ande
Go into Settings->Phone. What does it say next to Voicemail:
has my phone number......should i put a "1" in there? by itself?
Are you on Sprint or Verizon?
sprint.....
2 Things...
1. Is your phone number in this format xxx-xxx-xxxx or this format xxxxxxxxxx?
2. When you open the dialer and click Menu->Speed Dial, what's in there?
the "2" that I put in there earlier that dials my voice mail.
dosent have the option to use the "1" available is 3-99. the "1" must be set aside for the voice mail but it must have left town.
Did you install the sprint carrier cab? If so, did you install the new one that was updated a few days ago?
No still on 3.35
Wait you're using the 3.35 stock rom?
Yes sir, I thought i mentioned it earlier, sorry if i didnt.
And it was there working, and then suddenly just disappeared? Or it never worked?
it worked before and it just quit working one day. I brutally dropped my phone and dislodged the vibrate thing off the mainboard (made my skin cringe) but the phone works great still with the exception of the vibrate thing of course.
I dont know if dropping it is when it stopped working or not
Have you tried a hard reset?
If i do that i will update to the new rom, I just hate reloading everything
In the registry, navigate to "HKCU\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction\CDMA\VoicemailIcon"
What values do you have under that key?

[Q] Problem with #1 key for vm

I'm currently running Froyo 1.70.605 with Radio MR2.5. When I press #1 key to access vm, it just hangs there and doesn't connect me to listen to my vm. I can see and access my VMs when I select the VM icon. But when I press #1 key, it doesn't work.
FYI..I did use Youmail a while back, and I cancelled and reset back to vzw VM.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Check your speed dial settings
Go into the phone dialer->Hit Menu->Speed dial->see what's under #1 - it should be *86. They have a page on YouMail's website for how to set it back if it's not.
Your phone probably doesnt have Voicemail set up under that key anymore. So when you are pressing 1 it isnt trying to call anything. I want to say the VM number is *68 or *86. So just put it as a speed dial under 1 and then itll fix you problem!
I can't remember if this existed on the stock Froyo dialer or not but you may also want to check the Dialer's settings.
Open Dialer then select Menu->Preferences. There may be options for Voicemail in there as well as Settings->Call Settings.
Or just fix the speed dial as mentioned.
Thanks for the suggestions. They seemed to have worked. Now having another problem. Will post question in another post.
Also instated of putting just *86 If you put *86pxxxx where xxxx is your pin number, it will put it in for you when you call so you don't have to enter your pin everytime.

[Q] [Error] Changing Voicemail Number?

I am having trouble changing the voicemail number on my Galaxy S2. At present pressing the voicemail speeddail does nothing other then prompting me to add my voicemail number and directs me to the settings app.
If I try to change it in Settings > Call settings, I get the error message 'Voice Mail Number change unsuccesful'. But no real reason why it happens and its annoying me greatly as I can't clear my voicemail counter without it and what not >_<
Tried power cycling and what not and neither of it has helped, so has anyone of you gotten any idea as to how I can add it to my phone or fix that stupid error. Any help or advice short of doing a full reset is more then welcome, and I do hope someone might be able to help me....
Thanks in advance.
There is a copy of your voice mailbox number on the sim card that may conflict with what you are trying to do.
Talk to your provider, they can flush your mailbox and allow you to reset the number.
How can they flush my sim card, or am I reading your comment wrong?.
Just for clarifying I changed provider on my phone and I am unsure wether the error happened during that change since I can't remember fiddling with the voicemail bit before the last couple of days and running into that error.
they can flush the settings for your voicemail on their server which will allow you to make changes to your voice mail account.
Well they tried something which advertantly didn't work >_<. But apparently the voicemail number isn't even on my simcard.
They tried even more stuff >_<.
And when I press and hold #1 on my phone it says there isnt a voicemail number on my sim. But trying to change it through settings it still says "Voicemail Number changed unsuccesful"
I have the same problem. Did you find a solution?
At the moment I have limited the issue to being operator dependant. Because I have the issue on one sim from my regular provider, while trying two other providers simcards doesnt cause this error.
Next on list is to try another simcard and then go digging in the phone to see what might be causing it. But I will be pinging you if I find the solution.
dnesdlrow, where are you from and what provider do you use?.
I've got the same problem. I flashed to a custom & now there is no voicemail number on my SIM card.
I called customer service and the gave me a 10 digit number to plug in. They said the number is different for everyone so if anyone else has the same trouble you can simply call your carrier.
You need to put in your carriers specific voice mail number. For example I am on O2 UK and mine is 901.
Use google of contact your carrier for the number.

Hello,
I had a similar issue. I changed the plan on my phone, and afterward the voicemail didn't work when I did a long press on the #1 button. It kept saying that there was no voicemail number, and when I tried to enter it into the settings manually it kept saying "Voicemail number change unsuccessful."
I called Rogers and they gave me a new voicemail number; I could dial it and set up my voicemail, but when I tried to program it into the dedicated #1 speed dial spot, I still could not change it. I tried copying it to my SIM card and adding it as a contact to select for the speed dial slot, but that didn't work either. I suspected that this new number was conflicting with the SIM card, so I went to Rogers and asked for a new one. Despite some resistance, they gave it a shot, and it worked perfectly thereafter. Just be sure to copy your contacts over to your phone before getting a new SIM!
I hope this solution works for others too!
Cheers and good luck!
Help please ...
I too am trying to set my voicemail for the speed dial "1" key.
while at the keypad screen:-
menu-> call setting -> scroll to the heading "voicemail", option "voicemal service", is set default to "my carrier".
I then choose to change the "voicemail settings" -> "voicemail number", and enter the new voicemail number to dial, press ok .... and this is where the problem is...
When I press OK ... I get the following error "Voicemail number change unsuccessful"
I would like to to have this number changed , as every time manually dial my voicemail number it constantly ask for my password.
Why is this happening, I have purchased this phone outright, it is model type i9300, running Android 4.1.2.
Hopefully this can be an easy fix...?
PS...
This also causes a problem with Australian virtual mobile carriers, like Amaysim, Kogan, Aldi, who use Telstra & Optus as there underlying carriers, and and also will cause issues when travelling abroad, because you will not be able to access your voicemail if the number can not be changed to the full international dialing equivalent..
Also Can't Change the Voicemail number
I'm running a non-rooted, GS3 from VZW. Running 4.1.2.
The current voicemail number is *86 (Verizon's). I'd like to change it because I'm abroad and *86 is not my carrier's voicemail number. Every time I go to Phone, Call Settings, Voicemail Settings, and edit the number to the local one, I get "Error: Voicemail number change unsuccesful."
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Same problem still
I'm on an S4 Mini with cm11 m6 and habe the same problem with a German T-Mobile card. I can easily dial the number 3311. Why can't I simply assign that to the #1 key?

[Q] Dialer settings for DTMF tone length hidden or disabled - Android JB 4.1.2

I use calling card a lot, so I store all numbers within a contact and include "," to add pauses.
When I call those contacts enetering number by number manualy, I have no problems to establish the call (it is not funny to dial 30 numbers).
However, when I use the number stored in the contact, the dial speed is too high and the tone length is too short causing 95% of the intents fail.
I have used the search tool a lot even for other phone models, but general solution was go to dialer menu and enable DTMF long.
I'm using Android JB and within the Dialer menu there are not DTMF settings at all. I'm using the ROM Version 982.124.17.XT910.Latam.en.01 that I got from OTA. I just rooted.
My question is:
Is there any way I could re-enable DTMF settings menu?
If NOT, is there any way I could modify any configuration file so that I get DTMF tone longer?
Fianlly, would this be fixed downloading a different dialer with DTMF settings? (I don't like that option too much)
Thanks for your help in advance.
Adrian.

[Q] Different Default dialer issues

Hello all,
I have googled and googled and searched, and I can't find anyone with the same issue I have. I don't know if I'm using the wrong search terms or what.
I cannot seem to get a default dialer setting for ALL phone numbers.
- I have Dialer One installed because I like it better than the default.
- It installed no problem, though even when I was in the app, it would still switch to the default to make the actual call, I think. But that didn't bother me too much... at least I could use it to find the number I wanted.
- Then I installed Skype.
Now, every time I call a phone number that I have not called recently, the thing pops up AGAIN asking me if I want to dial it with "Phone" or "Skype." (Dialer One is never an option.) I can tell it to use the Phone always... but it will only set it for that phone number. I'm constantly calling new phone numbers, and I'm sick of having to continually tell it to always use the phone!
Soooo.... can anyone tell me how to do at least one of these:
- Either make Dialer One the default for all calls and phone numbers.
- Or make the default phone dialer the default for all calls and phone numbers... I can still open Dialer One to locate the number I want.
- Or somehow tell it to stop offering Skype to me. Ever. I'll open the Skype app when I want to call that way.
Note:
- In my Settings | Applications, there is no default dialer listed at all. Dialer One is the only thing listed. I may have tried to uninstall it back when I installed dialer one... which may be why I'm having issues. Maybe?
- Skype settings has absolutely nothing in settings to "Never offer" or anything of the sort.
- Every solution I've found says to clear the defaults, make a call, and choose always. Like I said... I do that dozens of times every week and it still keeps popping up.
***I do have the phone rooted, in case the solution requires that.***
Thanks in advance!
You can not replace the phone dialer..that will always be use whenever you are dialing some one. However installing a custom dialer will only give you a front end of the dialer but it will still use the default dialer software to dial some one.
Now try dialing any number thru SGS3 default dialer. It will ask you to dial thru phone or Skype. Choose phone and always.
