[Q] getting MIUI to recognise rmvb format as video file - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on MIUI Lithium. I've installed an app to watch rmvb movies but I can't find a way to get the format associated to the app in File Explorer. That is, I can't play the rmvb file directly by clicking the file in File Explorer. Under the browse tab, it is classified as Misc instead of Videos. When I click the file, I don't get the "Complete action using" popup to choose the default app. Any way to work around this?

How to open video with rockplayer in ES File Exporer?

I have mattc Leo 1.5 installed on my HD2. I also downloaded Estrongs File Explorer and is able to mount samba directories in LAN. Now, now the problem is that when I try to open an video (.avi, .rmvb) in the samba directory, it opens it with the Android default video player, which doesn't play these files.
I was trying to go to Setting -> Application and find 'Video' application to clear the default, but I don't know which application to clear default, and I don't see any video player related application anyway.
I was hoping that I can default open .avi and other video files with rockplayer, can someone please help me?
Thanks so much for your time
Edit:
I think I give up on ES File Player for playing video on samba , I saw something similar from nexus one forum about mounting samba as local directory, and then rockplayer can brower and play. does anyone know if it is possible for mattc Leo 1.5 build

Don't think it's possible yet. I also have the same problem as you (also with ES File Explorer). I googled making rockplayer the default player, but the search results weren't helpful or said it couldn't be done.
Try clearing the default of "Gallery - HTC Corporation".

Base on this thread from ES File Explorer forum, I believe you are right

Now, the question is, does anyone know any other ways to mount samba and play the media file with desired media player such as rockplayer?
Thanks!

Total shot in the dark here as I dont have rockplayer yet and my android build has just took a s**t,,,, but...
Does rockplayer have some sort of playlist editor? is there a paste option in the playlist editor?
Copy while browsing in ES -> paste into the playlist editor???
Probably a really stupid idea but its an idea lol
I also use the combination ES and rockplayer. Its a nasty work around but i do as follows: start downloading the file with ES. Go to rockplayer and start playing the file. Its works quite well and no waiting. Hope this helps until a better app or update comes along.

You can use CifsManager
http://208.100.42.21/showthread.php?t=756158
It mounts Windows shares as local mount points.
Works like a dream with Rockplayer
SGS 2.2.1 with speedmod cifs tweak enabled working to mount cifs partition but... only the default player can show video\mp3... rockplayer no :| Any idea?
Chooo
I know a workaround.
-Set your preferred player as a default (menu -> setting -> application -> <you player>).
-Browse your samba directory using es explorer.
-Tap & hold the video file.
-Select Open As Video.
It automatically plays the video using my 3rd party media player.
(I didn't try with a music file).
Use the cupcake version of ES file explorer and it will ask you how to finish the action

[Q] Media player

Hi,i am having a problem that the music player app lists sound files from game s such as avatar and hawx, is there a way to tell it to only search the"music"folder for media?
Thanks!
No but there is a trick
Use root explorer, go to every game in the gameloft folder on your internal SD card.
Bring up menu bar in root-explorer and click on "more" then "new file" Make the file name .nomedia and save. Do this in every game folder and it will make it so it doesn't search those folders and they wont appear in music/video player, and pictures.
edit
make it easier uploaded. just unzip and put this file in every game folder in gameloft directory
Thanks thatvworked wonederfully

[Q] Video files not accessible

I've recorded a video and the file can only be accessed through the video camera,
I can't get a file manager to open the file. what could be the problem?

ES File explorer questions.

Hi
I would like to know if I can change one (or all) of three things within ES File explorer.
1. When one file is selected you can use the 'open as' function to send the file to a specific app. I would like to be able to use the 'open as' if multiple files are selected. So I can select several audio files and send them to my preferred player rather that the ES media player which is standard for a multiple select.
2. Can I disable / remove ES Media player to get round the above problem? My guess would be no.
3. Can I enable some form of buffering in ES Media player?
The reason for this is I am trying to stream music via FTP from my home server. While I have been successful I am having a few teething problems.
I have discussed my issues in a different thread:HERE
Thanks for your suggestions

Hungama Music and Video app, How to import downloaded videos to pc? please help

help!!!!!!!
I have installed Hungama app from Google playstore now after that is downloaded some videos from this app and the video are there inside the application only,
then i installed ES file explorer where i can access the android/data/com.hungama.myplay.activity/files/video/.
inisde this folder all the videos can be found but the problem is that every video is having a filename with extension .cache
at first time when i entered to the folder and copied one from them and pasted there in same folder than moved the copy to another folder and renamed the filename by changing only its extension from .cache to .mp4 while having the app running in background, after renaming the file with .mp4 extension i tried to open it with MX video Player, it was played well without any buffering like an file in sdcard. i thought its easy, therefore selected all the files from that folder and copied them to another location in the sd card and tried to rename all files at once by changing their file extension from .cache to mp4 ,
But this time MX player and every mp4 player failed and now also no video is playing outside that particular app.
What could be the solution?? please post your suggestions soon,, and help!!!!
if possible can anyone here check this video file for the error why it cant be played after playing once in android MX player...

Tested on app version 5.2.18
When the app opens a .cache file, it "decrypts" it. When a file is decrypted, its name will have "decrypt" at the end
EX: encripted "audio_134298.cache"
decrypted "audio_134298decrypt.cache"
So, my solution was to download an FTP server on my phone, then connect to it through windows CMD and download the decrypted songs with a wildcard
(Make sure to CD into wherever you wanna download the songs first BEFORE doing the commands)
Code:
ftp -i
open
PHONE_IP PORT
cd Android/data/com.hungama.myplay.activity/files/track/
mget *decrypt.cache
mdelete *decrypt.cache
When I did the process described above, there were only 21 decrypted songs (Even though my library has +500 songs) (I don't know if the same 21-rule applies to videos), so you'll have to press PLAY (from the hungama app) 21 times, and then repeat the download process (mget and then mdelete to free up space)
After that's done, I fired up "Bulk Rename Utility" and changed all extensions to .mp3 (since I was converting music), and also removed the "decrypt" characters from the filenames.
But BEWARE, decrypted files are not the final form of the mp3; If you listen to them you will only hear giverish.
But at least we now have meta-data.
I would post a link to one of these files, but:
a) I don't have enough reputation to post links
b) Copyright
At this point it might just be better to write down a list of all your songs and re-download them from hungama<dot>com
Hope this helps
First of all navigate to the browser where it saves the file and Remove .nomedia File from that folder not browse the folder in MX or VLC and Enjoy the videos

It's not uncommon that an app creates files that other apps don't need to access, or shouldn't access.
