I have mattc Leo 1.5 installed on my HD2. I also downloaded Estrongs File Explorer and is able to mount samba directories in LAN. Now, now the problem is that when I try to open an video (.avi, .rmvb) in the samba directory, it opens it with the Android default video player, which doesn't play these files.
I was trying to go to Setting -> Application and find 'Video' application to clear the default, but I don't know which application to clear default, and I don't see any video player related application anyway.
I was hoping that I can default open .avi and other video files with rockplayer, can someone please help me?
Thanks so much for your time
Edit:
I think I give up on ES File Player for playing video on samba , I saw something similar from nexus one forum about mounting samba as local directory, and then rockplayer can brower and play. does anyone know if it is possible for mattc Leo 1.5 build

Don't think it's possible yet. I also have the same problem as you (also with ES File Explorer). I googled making rockplayer the default player, but the search results weren't helpful or said it couldn't be done.
Try clearing the default of "Gallery - HTC Corporation".

Base on this thread from ES File Explorer forum, I believe you are right

Now, the question is, does anyone know any other ways to mount samba and play the media file with desired media player such as rockplayer?
Thanks!

Total shot in the dark here as I dont have rockplayer yet and my android build has just took a s**t,,,, but...
Does rockplayer have some sort of playlist editor? is there a paste option in the playlist editor?
Copy while browsing in ES -> paste into the playlist editor???
Probably a really stupid idea but its an idea lol
I also use the combination ES and rockplayer. Its a nasty work around but i do as follows: start downloading the file with ES. Go to rockplayer and start playing the file. Its works quite well and no waiting. Hope this helps until a better app or update comes along.

You can use CifsManager
http://208.100.42.21/showthread.php?t=756158
It mounts Windows shares as local mount points.
Works like a dream with Rockplayer
SGS 2.2.1 with speedmod cifs tweak enabled working to mount cifs partition but... only the default player can show video\mp3... rockplayer no :| Any idea?
Chooo
I know a workaround.
-Set your preferred player as a default (menu -> setting -> application -> <you player>).
-Browse your samba directory using es explorer.
-Tap & hold the video file.
-Select Open As Video.
It automatically plays the video using my 3rd party media player.
(I didn't try with a music file).
Use the cupcake version of ES file explorer and it will ask you how to finish the action

I figured out how to use your music that you have downloaded from google music beta.
1. use any file manager app ie. es file explorer
2. go into setting - file settings then choose to show hidden files
3. navigate on your sdcard to android and delete .nomedia file
4. navigate next to android/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music and delete the .nomedia that is there.
5. if you see another .nomedia anywhere in that path delete it.
6. now after you download music you have a couple of options to make your music be seen by the other music players.
a. unmount and mount sdcard
b. reboot
or c. what i do is use widgetsoid and use the media scan button
enjoy your entire music collection with what ever app you want to use.
I'm on MIUI Lithium. I've installed an app to watch rmvb movies but I can't find a way to get the format associated to the app in File Explorer. That is, I can't play the rmvb file directly by clicking the file in File Explorer. Under the browse tab, it is classified as Misc instead of Videos. When I click the file, I don't get the "Complete action using" popup to choose the default app. Any way to work around this?
I have a problem with my mp3's on my harddisk, or rather, the problem occurs when I try to copy them to my phone (on the sd-card if that matters). My cd's are ripped and for each cd, the is a .pls file indicating the order of the files (the files are not prefixed 01, 02, etc.).
My problem is that I have found no player on android (S2) that can use my .pls files (they are just text files with 1 file on each row, relative path) and the .pls file is placed in the same folder as the mp3 files. Then each cd has their own folder.
I have tried winamp, poweramp, builtin prog, video players and more. No program can understand the contents of my .pls files, but many do accept .pls files. How must the files be built in order to work? (format)
I have also tried with .m3u files and .m3u8 files, but it is the same story as with .pls.
I am at a loss. How do I transfer playlists from my pc (.pls or .m3u) to android?
Also, why is it that winamp cannot even see my mp3 files? Is it because I place them om the SD-card? It only finds a couple provided by Samsung.

You might give AudioPlayer a try.
- free version has ads, but runs ok without internet connection
- available on SlideME (direct download apk file, no google account needed) or Market
I tried AudioPlayer 1.10 on Android 2.3.6 (Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2). It will read m3u playlists with relative paths, whether opened directly in player or passed from file manager.
Playlist editing is limited. You can't view the list or reorder items, but you can remove the current item. Saving a changed list seems buggy. When I saved right away in the directory that comes up, I got relative paths. But when I back out some levels and come back to that same directory and save, then I get absolute paths that begin "../../../../../../../../sdcard". So it seems like it works best if you already have your playlists made.
I also tried renaming the m3u list to .pls (and added .pls as a playlist extension in player settings). This .pls list worked if the player opened it directly, but not if I went through the file manager.
For now, I'm keeping it as one of my installed players. It is simple to use. I like it for what it does. It has multiple seek buttons (you can set the time interval) which are handy for navigating long sound files. And it opens the now obscure RealAudio format for me, once I added .rm .ram file extensions in the settings (though this decoding might be dependent on hardware).
I have es file explorer because it allows me to save folder directories on my computer with video and in the past would allow me to select a video player to play them. For some reason it just forces me to stock player and tries to download the steam instead.
does anyone have a solution to this or an alternative file explorer with a simple clean layout and network directory folder feature like es file explorer?
