Hey guys-
I don't think anyone has asked this one yet, and I can't find an answer in the Dev forums. I know that people had been getting the Nook app (the one from the market) to work with NookieFroyo, but has any had any success getting it to work with Honeycomb on the Nook? I tried installing it today after getting version 2 (which was posted this morning, I believe) to no avail.
I get to sign in and everything and I can even download books, and futz with the settings. But, when I go to read a book it either sits there loading forever, or just crashes outright. Has anyone had any success?

+1 same problem here.
I was about to post this same question. I believe I saw someone in the main honeycomb thread who said they got it working but I can't remember where or who it was. This is really the only thing keeping this from being a daily driver for me.
Same problem for me, but not only does the nook app just sit and spin, but 50% of the time, nook and kindle crash the device every time, and it reboots.

I'm in the same boat. I get a FC when it loads.
Using the 2a build.
It works for me just fine.
This is not antagonistic, but what advantages are there between the Nook and Kindle apps? I'm sure people have a preference, but I've never seen a need to move away from Kindle. (Supporting B&N is a good reason, I suppose.)

And just to be certain, you're on Honeycomb....and you've actually opened a book and gotten text (not just the table of contents)? I'd be very interested in what version of HC you're using. This would be my daily driver if I could get the nook app working. I appreciate any insight you have!

I have B&N nookbooks so that is why I would like to use this.
im on same bout also running nookhoney v3 get main screen get library and also download books but it hangs on opening book or get a FC. shop opens but havent tried to purchase anything yet.
For me, I use B&N and have friends that use B&N. We use the LendMe feature, which saves me some cash here and there. On the Kindle side, my wife lovers her Kindle, and I sync my Kindle app with her account, and we share books that way.
It's working!!!!
I am running v3 of deeper_blue's HC image and the Nook app works for me. Finally. And I am not sure how or why, it just started to work. I could get to my library before and I could download my book(s). But previously, I would try to open the book and it didn't seem to load, only the never ending circle.
The page loads, I can turn pages, bookmark them, close out, come back to the same page, go to the table of contents, skip to a chapter, etc.
I did change the screen to NOT auto-rotate. I was getting FCs when the screen would flip around between apps, so I shut it off. I am not sure if that helped, but that is one thing that is different now v. before.
(on the other subject: I like all the readers - B&N, kindle, and google books. They are all fine. I like the features that are offered by the NC for the B&N books the best, but they all work fine and read fine )
Great news. I also see that Honeycomb v04 was posted today and it specifically addresses problems with the nook and kindle apps. I'm really glad this is finally fixed. I read quite a bit and the lack of a nook app kept me from using HC as my daily driver.

Nook app definately works in HC v4.
But NO magainzes or newspapers in the app. Very disappointing.
Weird I MUCH prefer the app reader experience with the turning pages, etc. but the stock NC is the only thing I have seen let me access the newspapers and magazines
what about the nook color reader app
Is there any way to get the reading app that is on the internal memory to work with HC? Theat would be ideal and the NC would then be just about perfect!

Hi Peter,
Nook app on HC v4 works great for me. It syncs BN library pretty quickly as well.
I tried unmounting uSD before installing it (and several other apps giving FCs) and it worked. Now its my standard ePub reader again.
Good luck m8!
I haven't tried flashing any of the new ROMs because I like the BN Reader app that comes on the Nook. I've been looking at the various threads and haven't seen anything mentioned about it. Let's say I flash HC, will I be able to read my magazines?
Sent from my Nootered NookColor using the XDA app.
Yes... and no.
I used this process to root and add HC:
At the B&N forum on Android Central in the stickies section: 54069-guide-how-root-your-nook-color.html
When I completed this process, I had full use of the B&N app.
But I also used the CWM method (ClockworkMod/Rom Manager) and that eliminated the stock B&N apps for me, although you could, presumably, D/L some functionality via the market with the Nook App.
Now, I have the full functionality with the "Home" Launcher that was on the NC when I completed my root in the first method, but that goes away to some extent if you add, say, ADW Launcher IF YOU SELECT THAT LAUNCHER WHILE USING THE INVERTED U BUTTON; THE BUTTON THAT ALLOWS YOU TO PICK WHICH LAUNCHER YOU WANT TO USE.
So now, when I hit the "Home" function, I pick between the launchers from the pop up window that wants me to choose.
When I want all B&N functionality, I just pick the "Home" Launcher, which has full B&N functionality. When I want to do more non-B&N stuff, I use ADW Launcher. I picked ADW Launcher because their non-pay version allows you to change the icon size, while Launcher Pro makes you get the paid version to do that.
Hope this helps...

No, you cannot use the stock B&N app on any of the Froyo ROMs, HoneyComb ROMs or the upcoming CM7. These ROMs basically wipe the B&N software.
The stock B&N app is only available on rooted 1.01 or 1.1 (Eclair).
For the newer ROMS you would have to download the B&N app from the market.
I am on phiremod (froyo) and the nook app from the market works for the books I had previously bought. I just had to re-download them (but not repay of course)

Looks like I'm sticking with Nootered 1.1 until/unless BN decides to switch to Froyo or HC then.

if stock is that important to you just use the dual boot option to load another rom in a new partition. all of this is posted in the development forum
Agreed - the way to go is Nookie Froyo 0.6.7 on SD card - I used a 4GB SabDisk that I picked up for like $12.99 at Office Depot. When I want to run the NC as an Andoid tablet, I pop in the card and it works just fine.
When I pop out the SD card and re-boot, back to stock NC, no footprints at all of the Froyo - and I have my magazines and the wonderful reader on the stock Nook Color.

What steps did you take to get the other card like that? I just picked up the same card, for this very reason... but unsure how to go about doing this.
Thanks for the help
I'm in the same boat as I subscribe to some magazines on the Nook.. I've tried to pull the stock reader out and get it installed in the HC preview running from sdcard, but hit a bunch of snags with missing lib files. Since there are others wanting this too I'll take another snag at getting all the libraries needed.

dependencies getting me..
So far I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on this but I've pulled the apk and have started going through the dependencies that are causing it to fail to run. I'm hoping to get some time this week to work more on it. I really want to have it working (if it's possible) before the Honeycomb V5 build makes it out as I'd like to ditch the dual booting and simply use HC for it all.
On a good note I found a thread here on XDA with an APK reverse engineering tool, so hopefully this will help speed it along.

I have made some progress fixing the dependencies: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976270
Just an FYI, using ApkManager and decompiling/recompiling the Reader.apk won't work automatically. I had to fix some layout xml files.
After going through the APK I think I may need to start a thread in the dev section as it appears there are many more hooks than simply pulling the libs over with the apk.

How to load book previouly bought on nook stock reader to the market version of nook for android. It does not seem to regonize them. Haven't been able to find process of how to do this yet. It says it supports it, but no directions on how to. I tried loading barnes and noble purchased ebook on another reader and it was asking for username password. Which for some reason can not remember.
So how do I load epubs that I purchased from barnes and noble on orignal stock nook color. I believe some are children eread books someone mention those can not be read by Nook for Android market app is that correct?

Simply put you have to log in to your B&N account on the nook app. If you don't remember your user name and password then...I guess you'd be out of luck? I mean there are ways to figure out your password and username (their website, or call them) so you could try that, but there is no way to just import them to the app without it, unless you made a backup on your computer of them prior to going away from the stock reader. Let me know if that is the case, I may be able to help you.
Also, I don't believe that the B&N format is simply ePub (I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure) and so if you were to want to use a different app (like Aldiko), you'd have to convert the file (assuming it's DRM free)
And you're correct, at this time childrens books can not be read on the android app, but they are working on it (along with magazines) from what rumors say.
If you need more help let me know.
I have found "alternate" sources for my magazines now (in PDF format) and canceled my magazine subs through B&N. I really liked the reader and some of the extra features, but I really want to move forward with CM7 (and not dual-booting).
Thanks,
what was the process for logging in and registering nook with stock app, meaning how does B&N site regonzie Nook Color Reader, when you first register to provide a email for userid. It as been a while since I had stock nook reader so I have forgotten what I used. The problem I am having is I made a back up off all my B&N epub docs but the market app does not evern regonize them and or not sure how to select or load them into the nook market app. I guess I will check to see if there is documentation on nook market app.

Care to share the alternate sources for mags ... either by posting here or by PM? Likewise I don't want to get into dual-booting or having to stop and pull-out my sdcard to switch functionality. And CM7 will be all the more appealing than it is now once they incorporate the tablet tweaks that mad-murdock (a Cyanogenmod dev and member of teamdouche) is working on.
i just noticed that the "My Apps" button in the market now looks like a phone and says "sprint"
If i click on it it doesn't take me to my apps.
Anyone else having this problem?
That's normal for this build. If you click on your Menu, you'll find My Apps there.
Thanks you were right

I'm really enjoying this ROM. The speed of the machine is phenomenal.
Love the Rom ad well but can't seem to get the market updated or to show all apps. Any thoughts?
I've tried market enabled to no avail.
Issue with ROM or with G-Tab?
I've noticed that if I let the g-tab go to sleep, I'm having to reboot it get it to wake up.
Is anyone else having this issue? I've had my tablet since x-mas, but have nto used it much. It sat in a desk drawer for about 2 months, and I'm just now getting into using it.

Yeah, again it's just the build. There are a ton of hacks that will get you more of the market, but I doubt you'll ever get "everything". Considering that the GTab wasn't blessed by Google, we're lucky to have the devs here to get the market at all.

Another issue with this ROM. Some have fixed it by going to Clemsyn's kernel, others to Pershoot's and still others by using CPU Master Free. Personally, I just set my tab's Screen Timeout to Never. What can I say...I like simple.

I agree. The only problems I see with it are no news and weather widget like on tnt, and the horrible photo album (I think it's from stock?)
Fireware
This may be a stupid question, so I am sorry if it is, but Calkulins v1.1 says it is "Based on rooted 2.2 / FRF91 - TnT 3991"...
so can you run it on the 1.1-3588 firmware, or will that brick?
Again, sorry for my ignorance...
Thanks!
ROM's and Firmware are the same thing. If you're asking whether you can use ClockworkMod or standard recovery, the answer is yes. Calkulin's ROM is a hybrid using the newer 3991 build for features but the older bootloader and recovery. It shouldn't cause you any trouble loading it over 3588.
Thanks! Sorry, I confused the firmware with bootloader, thanks for straightening that out!
No problem. Just want to make sure that I understand the question correctly. Happy modding!
All Done!
Woot!! I will say, I bought this on the woot! deal... and although I consider myself very computer savvy, I have never rooted/hijacked/whatever a device before...
Happily this was super easy! I wanted use the stock ROM for a bit to get familiar with it, but I just couldn't stand how slow/unresponsive/just crappy it was!!
So I jumped the gun and started in... luckily I did a lot of reading first!!
Loaded up Clockworkmod - and made a backup first!! lol
Used clockworkmod to install Calkulins ROM---OMG is it fast!!
The found that I was having the sleep-death issue... so I loaded up Clemsyns Kernel Too!!
Not a single hiccup! Even for a noob- this is super easy! Just follow all the great advice on the XDA forums (and don't skip steps!) and you can't screw it up.
Thanks to all the great people on here, for the hard work, and patience... I love seen good communities like this!
DeadEnd
Which version of Clemsyns is recommended?
Hi,
clakulins ROM is my prefered ROM so far
But, it needs some issues to be addressed to make it my daily driver.
1- sleep-to-death
I know we can use another kernel to fix this (so I keep this fix for later if everything else can work)
2- Settings/Family accounts/add member
This FC every single time. I definitly need this functionality. My Gtab being a family device....
3- Photos is horrible as previosuly pointed out in this thread. I want a centralized place for all my photos, or at least for local storage + picasa. With this gallery, we can only access picasa public albums. What about my own account !!!
4- Photos started to display pictures roatated one quarter to the left. It doesnt let me re-rotate them back to original. It does that for evey single picture, i cant fix this. Photos is now unusable
I tried a few Photos gallery apps from the market (6-7 so far). None of them works to my liking.
I just want somethings simple that get access to all my pics.
5- Cant play videos anymore. Not even the sample 'car' and 'king kong' that came with the Gtab.
If I can fix all of the above, calkulin will be my only and permanent ROM.
(ps items 4 and 5 were previously working ok in this ROM, this started yesterday)
Also, another things that is on my whish list:
- Have bluetooth HID
I have this blutooth keyboard collecting dust on the used parts shelve that I would like to use with the Gtab
thank you calkulin for all,
So, I decided to install clemsyn kernel to fix this sleep-death problem.
No problem installing, everything went well.
But now instead of comlaining that it cant play videos, it just FC on every videos I try to play.
I feel a complete reinstall will be necessary.
I'm happy with CM7 on the NC but the Nook Market app is a huge step backwards - it seems designed to frustrate tablet users. In addition to the tiny, unresponsive buttons, the online dictionary is useless when you don't have wifi. Strangely, the iphone Nook app is far more intuitive. This Android design manages to cancel out half the reason to own the thing. I know others have had the same complaints.
So here's the question. Has anyone been able to resurrect the stock Nook ereader software (along with its dictionary) and make it work on CM7? I don't want to go back to a simple rooted Nook or boot from an sd card. To be honest, if I didn't want working bluetooth so badly, I wouldn't have bothered jumping to CM7.
Apologies if this has come up elsewhere - it didn't appear in my search.
Any help would be appreciated.
I second this; I would love to see an actual usable android nook app.
I was just about to post the same thing here, so I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the NOOK app for Android sucks. It's so bad that I would consider buying all my books through either Amazon or the store that Aldiko uses, because those apps are far superior. Everything about the NOOK app is bad, especially when you try highlighting words/phrases and you can't highlight exactly what you want (it jumps around). I want to support B&N because I love the original NOOK and NOOK Color, but their app is so poorly made.
If the NOOK app doesn't satisfy people here, which app/service have you gone with as a replacement?

I actually like the Nook app WAY better than the Kindle app. The Kindle app doesn't do the page flip animation that the Nook one does and it keeps your spot by position numbers not page numbers. Sorry, I would rather see I was on page 22 than position 715.
I do like the native Nook software better than the app though.
There was talk on this before froyo was supported on the NC. It's basically been dropped.
Here's the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976270
EDIT: Accidental thank to the OP...oh well.
What is everyone's thoughts about Google Books? I think it's pretty cool that it syncs your last read page in their "cloud," so it'll be at that spot either on your NC, your phone, or their website. The Android app itself has gotten bad reviews, but I kind of like it. Haven't purchased any books through it yet, but it looks promising.
Still not a big fan of the NOOK app.
The built in Nook Reader is the only reason I still run 1.2 rooted... now I have to find something for my Evo 3D.
I am okay with the app if I could just get the magazines to work. I can see the books, but I primarily like to view the magazines. Is anyone else having this issue? If I could get this fixed I would just stay running the CM7 off the sd card to not void my warranty. If not I might just install on EMMC.

Is this a magazine bought from B&N? I'm subscribed to both Asimov's and Analog and they work great.
BTW, using an overclock kernel really helps the Nook app speed.
I finally blew away stock and installed to emmc after a few days running OC, makes things tolerable, but I really wish it would resume what I was reading when I open it.
It says it on most of the magazines, like Men's Fitness and GQ. I can run them off the stock but not off the app. I finally installed CM7 on the emmc and tried it then, but still not working. I tried moving it to the SD card to see if that may help, but nope.
Anyone try the new 1.5 version of Netflix now available in the market? +1 - Same issue here. I think it's an epidemic.
Damn Netflix... Every time they get the product working halfway decent, they do something to screw it all up again. I'd think with their myriad of public relation issues at the moment, they'd be more careful not to screw things up, but there's me thinking again....
On my Nook it won't even complete loading the new version.
I reverted to the previous which works GREAT.
I just got my Nook Color (version 1.2 out of the box) and I'm trying to root it and play me some Netflix.
I followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987735 and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054027 and as far as I know I"m rooted properly. Where it says to 'follow on-screen directions' it included removing my SD card, so everythings been running smoothly without the SD card in, though as part of my work to get Netflix running, when I insert the SD card it now says its corrupted/invalid/whatever and needs to be formatted =\
After getting it rooted, I followed the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOZFBqiUvUI and managed to download both apps from the market with no problem (they were in the app list, didn't have to 'backdoor' by a link to the apk). But Netflis just stays at the red splash screen with the spinning circle, not doin' nothin'. Furthermore, it now says my SD card I used to install CWM et al. is invalid and needs to be reformatted.
I tried downloading a Netflix .apk from...a link somewhere (can't find it in my history T_T), and my Colordroid says it wants to open it with either APp Installer (which seems to do nothing) or the Package Installer (Whcih says it's not a valid package). Where'd I go wrong? I want to uninstall the Netflix App I already have installed, but I can't seem to find my way to that screen.
Thanks for the heads up, I won't be updating, as it is asking me to do....don't fix what ain't broke...
I got it going on my end. I had to format my SD card so it was usable, then use the ES File Explorer to a) copy the APK from SD card to /system/apps, then b) use ES File Explorer to also install the app. No other 'install this app' method seems to work. One series of clicks I triewd produced a "Your Phone is set to not allow installs outside of google market" or whatever, even though I set that to be allowed in NookColor Tools, but I got it goin' fine now.
In the end, it's what I thought it was to begin with -- user ignorance. Though having multiple threads saying "New versio Netflix works, no hax!" and then the new version of Netflix actually not working because of Netflix'...poor design...wasn't helping me. XD
Same here. Reverting back to the older version, my son is flipping out because there's no picture, he's 3.
same here..Excellent job, Netflix
The issue appears to be fixed in the new 1.5.1 update from Netflix.
Also, there is no rotation lock imposed (no more need for hacking).
In the "What's new" section:
Code:
4. Fix incompatibility with CyanogenMod 7 ROM devices.
Go get it!

And now it says "Your device is not compatible with this item."
Sweet...

Frappin Google and their damned walled gardens. It's really starting to get old...
Strange, mine just installed and worked fine (audio/video was normal).
You do have to uninstall the hacked version, if you used it (the error message should be different, though).
Edit: I am on CM7.1-stable

Hmm.. I had the market version and uninstalled it. I wonder if the culprit in this scenario isn't Chainfire 3d messing with the market... Now I'm starting to wonder if I should remove it and roll back my market, or if it's reading the screen density again (160 atm). Either way, it installed straight from the market the first time, now it's giving me crap - I may just send it from my phone.
I am on Miui latest...

Although you know what? The market should open itself unless there's a PURPOSE. Screw them... If it's not a compatibility issue with the GPU or an actual incompatibility with the Android version then allow us to grab it from the market. If it's free anyhow, WTH are they doing blocking it from us?
Sorry, that's my rant... Google and their blocking crap has been getting on my nerves lately. Their new approach to fragmented market availability based on individual devices is exactly the reason we all stay away from Apple... We hate walled gardens, so Google creates 50+ of them?
I don't think so...

Lol, if you want to see a walled garden go join the apple fanboys. What CM version are you on because it downloaded and installed fine for me.

2.6.32.9 ... latest Miui -.13 (not using their launcher, but their build is snappy). The last thing on earth I'd do is join those people, but saying that, isn't a walled garden for keeping you in and filtering what can get to you? How is the latest implementation of the market not a compilation of several fragmented gardens? We in these communities fight and hack our way to get software that runs perfectly on our devices anyhow. But I digress ... I pushed the apk from my phone.
I guess it's not a garden per se because they aren't locking us into Google products, but their mini-ecosystem designed to keep people in boxes feels like a walled garden... Tell me you wouldn't enjoy a more open market limited only by firmware revision and GPU?

I dont know much about miui but your dpi NEEDS to be 160 for the market to work. That is most likely your problem not Google.

Build.prop density = 160. And... the Apk side loaded fine and ran great, so no compatibility issue.
