Is there any way to change the sensitivity of the proximity sensor. It seems every screen protector I try makes the screen turn off when in a call even without anything near the sensor. I had to cut one of the screen protectors to get around it (but had messed up a corner when applying so I replaced it)
Or is there a way to completely disable it so I just have to hit the power button when in a call to manually turn the screen on or off.
+1
Dont have the same problem but would be helpful.
There is a distance setting in the build.prop file. You could try adjusting that and seeing if that helps.

Perfect. Changed the value (increased it from default of 60) and its working great now. Thanks for that tip.

Well after further testing seems that it didn't fix the problem. Seemed to work when I first made the changes but now the screen is stroll turning off and no matter what I change the value to I can't get the proximity sensor to work right.

Note: Your touchscreen might
stay dark if the sensor just

Anyway, why do you guys keep using the screen protectors with this gorilla glass phones? I have carried Moto Milestone in my pocket for a year and D2G for 3 months and there are no scratches on them whatsoever.
I use them on every phone I get because although it is gorilla glass it can still get scratches under the right conditions and I for one do not want my $400+ phone to have a scratch on the screen. Never had a phone that had issues like this with screen protectors and the proximity sensor. Multiple iPhones, Dell streak, nexus one, droid, galaxy s. I've tried two different screen protectors with the atria and both have this issue.
I'm having issues with my proximity sensor too, but it seems that I can't make it turn off the screen when I'm talking. I'm not using any screen protector but I do have a case. It was working fine till a week ago but now I just have to block the phone every time I get a call.
The only difference is that I've installed 2 new games, maybe those are affecting the sensor?
Another thing that isn't working anymore is the auto brightness that's always set to minimum, no matter the light conditions. The phone is online for 260+ hours already (had it go to 500+ before but had to turn it off to add a micro sd card, just to be sure it would find it).

Ugh... thing is if you drop your phone, it could crack both with screen protector and without one. If you grind the screen against your keys, it will get scratched through the protective film.
If you use it normally - the chance of scratching it really small. Just my 2 cents.

My wife's phone had a screen protector on and got scratched by being in her purse. The actual screen though had no marks. The screen protectors help. Obviously each incident is different but they can help prevent some damage so in my opinion they are worth it.

Hi there,
Got the same trouble..... but I just noticed it work fine at the sun (outdoor)..... turn the screen off in the shadow..... and switch on in the sun....
so I think a light adjustment has to be done.... but where ?...

I just bought a Tablet Z 32GB WIFI version model SGP312 from Hong Kong. The stock firmware version is 10.1.C.0.344.
It seems to me the touchscreen is very sensitive. E.g. when I am scrolling in Google play, it often "register" my finger motion as a touch and opens up the apps. When in Google Chrome, when scrolling a webpage, it will something zoom in, or open up new links instead.
It makes the tablet almost unusable. Anyone having similar issues. I read from this forum link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2289978 the following"10.1.C.0.353
Released on 8 May
Touch responsiveness improved."
However, I tried using Flashtool to update the newer firmware (I've unlock my tablet's bootloader) but it doenst flash at all, no error messages.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Yes, mine is oversensitive, too. Same Firmware as you, unrooted, untouched firmware.
I will send it back anyway because additionally the screen is too yellow, the headphone protection is not firmly in place, video playback from SMB is stuttering, YouTube has out of sync problems, and the USB port isn't able to power my external disk (something my other tablets do without problems).
This device is seriously overrated; I think the reviewers are kind of dazzled by the thinness and low weight and thus too willing to overlook the weaknesses.

Youtube works fine with mine, and you can pull the pre-installed screen protector out and replace with an after-market one, thats should take care of the yellowish, and by external disk you mean the portable one?

After you pulled off the matte protective layer, there's another pre-installed screen protector, its causes the yellowish and fingerprint - magnet, pull it off and replace with after market screen protector

You should prepare another screen-protector to put in after u pull the pre-installed one off. AND YES, its hard to pull off, super sticky so be careful not to scratch your screen

Anytime, it is a shattered proof film, but thats film mean to protect you, not the screen, its contains glass fragments in case the screen get broken, so feel free to pull it off and buy a replacement one on amazon, i did the same to my xperia z phone as well, the pre-installed film attracts alot of dust, and fingerprints magnet.

Start from the corner using a pin and tap some water on it, be careful not to scratch the screen, once the corner peel off a bit the rest should be easy

does this fix the problem or improve it ? and is it still waterproof? maybe its on there for that reason ?
I love this phone but this screen freak out is so bad sometimes that I dread having to type a text message.
I *THINK* the reason it freaks out is because my hands are even a tiny little bit sweaty when i try to use it.
This problem seems to be all over the internet:
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...ltra-touch-screen-problems/td-p/360568/page/3
Have you guys experienced it? I'm about to try a screen protector but is there anything else I can do to fix it? Turn down screen sensitivity somehow maybe?
Thanks!
I have the same issue and yes it's well known. I haven't tried it yet but a lot of people suggest that the ASF is the culprit and you'll have to take it off.
i have the same problem
The ASF is the culprit as far as i know and nearly everyone here has it

I put a screen protector on as soon as I got mine, and the only time it freaks is when there is actual water drops on it.
I've read that the Nexus 7, Nexus 5 and other newer models do also have some issues with false inputs, or "ghost touches". A lot of people are reporting that the issue is completely gone in Android Lollipop, so Google may have incorporated some new code that can better tell apart touches from fake touches, like the iPads and others have, so I guess you'll have to wait a bit to see if it's true.
I have that problem too. It actually got worse after removing the ASF.
I used paint thinner to remove the leftover glue so maybe that is the cause? Can paint thinner screw up my screen or is it simply because there no more layer between the moisture on my skin and my phone's screen? Getting a tempered glass protecter would solve this problem if that is the case, correct?
Had the same issue.
I removed the ASF, cleaned the screen with alcohol and then applied a Tempered glass for better resistance to torsion.
Never had any ghost touches since then. Lovely device!
The same thing happens to me, I think it's the moisture that freaks the phone out, my phone also does that when I take a pencil to it. Just dry it, and good to go.
Guys thanks for the responses.
For the record I got a tempered glass screen protector and the problem 100% went away.
I can now use my phone in the shower and it works fine even in the rain!

Hello, I have the Z2 for two months and I noticed that maybe 40-50% of the surface of the camera has stains on it.
I've seen on the forum that some of you experience scratches on the camera, which means the oleophobic coating is wearing out, but this doesn't seem to be the case. Does the camera have a factory protective foil on it? I can't really tell. I'll come back with a photo.

Did u put your phone into water? maybe the water stains are there because the cameralens glass has a little leak?
I hope you post a pic soon so we can actually see whats the problem
I did put it in a swimming pool a few times, I'll post a photo as soon as I find another device to take a macro with it.
Erm. I think this normal. Mine also hv that stain problem before. The reason is maybe that water was abit cold.. Dont worry that stain will be removed by itself, if not try put your device with the rice.

This is the antireflection coating.Almost every phone has it and also almost every new phone suffer from that issue.Wipe it out with some gel/toothpaste/water.

I put it in a swimming pool in the winter, maybe that didn't help, and the chlorine in the water as well. I still have a warranty for 20-21 months, so I'm thinking of sending it in to see if it's covered, doesn't seem like something that should happen so fast to me. Does anybody know what's Sony's policy? Do they replace the whole phone? I'm worried of the phone not being waterproof if they open it to replace some parts.

I removed it after my photo become blurry due to scratches on the coating. I believe its better to remove it if there are scratches on it, and photo become blurry. The image quality should be the same on normal use, but a bit worse under bright light

Hi - If I touch the screen *very* gently, it doesn't register as a touch.
Does anyone else have this? If your P9000 is OK, please let me know.
Most of the time it's OK, but it's extra annoying when I'm swiping a long word which gets split into two smaller words. I do have the screen protector on - Obviously I don't want to remove it just for testing, but I realise it might be affecting sensitivity.
Over the years I've had ~5 phones with capacitive touchscreens. This is the first I can touch without it the phone 'realising'.
Thanks, Richard
PS - I've enabled the 'Show touches' in Developer options. The accuracy is fine, it's just it's not quite sensitive enough.

yes, i have glass screen protector on my p9000 and it makes the digitizer less sensitive..
Thanks NX82. That's good news and bad news !
I want to have a screen protector, but sometimes the phone doesn't recognise/acknowledge gentle taps on the screen.
I'll try one other screen protector, if that doesn't work, I'll ask Amazon to replace it.

Yes. my screen also less sensitive with the screen protector, but i dont want to scratch the phone, so i rather use with the screen protector.. for me the less sensitive areas are around the edges of the protector.. but i can live with this problem. I know if i remove it gonna be okay again.. maybe possible to put a thinner folie on the screen and thats gonna be better. the protector glass is a little bit thick. probably this is the problem.
I also experienced a reduction in sensitivity after applying a glass screen protector. Without it phone always reacted okay, but with my protector the first miliseconds of my touch aren't registered it seems. I have more trouble typing and sometimes swiping lags. I have adjusted my usage and can live with it now though.
Yes a screen protector can make it less sensitive. But all I did was download this : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=br.shop4apps.touchscreenbooster.com
And then set it to super optimised and make sure it runs at boot and problem solved.

i installed this app too. i did not resatart the phone. maybe i feel a little difference, but hard to tell if it really helps or not. i have to use few days to tell its placebo or not

Well see how it goes and hopefully it does the trick. The p9000 glass isn't anything special. Don't want it to crack or scratch so we need something to protect it.
I have tried several touch calibrarion apps.
It seems like the restart is necessary to apply the new settings.
for me this application gave the best result:

...and i still hoping its not just a placebo effect

same here : no effect
I have the same problem but all the above apps don't work for me. I will try to swap my screenprotector for another one tommorow. Hopefully this works.
I've found out/realised that the bottom of the phone is less sensitive than the top, so compare the top and bottom half of the screen.
The top of the screen is *almost* as sensitive as every previous smartphone I've owned or used (mainly Samsungs, HTCs and various iPhones). I can just touch the screen without it registering, but only just.
The bottom of the screen is a lot less sensitive. When selecting (tapping) things, it prob wouldn't be much of an issue, but when I Swype using the 'keyboard', I get dropped letters.
A screen protector reduces sensitivity further (a glass one more than a flexible plastic one, from my experience)
R.
