[Q] Base update - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

If the next version of the Unnamed ROM moves to a new base, will that new ROM inlcude the update of the base? Will a separate firmware update be needed?

Most likely it will be a full install of the new rom, requiring a wipe, and not an update. Since it would be going up to a new release number, it would be like switching to a different rom.

Thanks. Many of your posts have been very helpful to me in getting started with the SGS2 rooted. Different from my experience with Xoom. Appreciate your time helping a noob.

what are the benefits of new update

Hey all,
I've been perusing these and "other" forums trying to decide if I should perform the stock update and reflash one of the new roms.
I'm currently running Vegan 5.1.1 and loving it. Everything works like I want it to, it's very stable, and I've spent a lot of time "making it mine."
With the new update, and subsequent new roms released by our dear friend Roebeet, I was wondering if there would be much of a benefit for me to Nvflash to stock, perform the stock update, then reflash one of the newer roms, ie Brilliant Corners, Mountain Laurel, or his newest Adam based rom?
I've always been of the school that if it's not broken, don't fix it. I figured that these new roms were intended for those that received their gtablet with the already updated 1.2 bootloader, but I've read people on forums going from 1.1 custom roms, back ot stock, then to 1.2 then reflashing a newer rom. Most of them only report on bugs etc in the new rom, but I've not seen anyone comment on whether it was actually better than their 1.1 rom, or what, if any benefits they saw from it.
I planned on using my current setup until it's outdated significantly. For instance, if Nvidea provides drivers, and VS creates a GB update, then the wonderful devs that are working on gtablet make a true working, supported gingerbread rom, THAT'S when I'll update.
so, bottom line, would it be worth it to nvflash to stock, update to 1.2 bootloader, then install Brilliant Corners? or an I best just not fixing what isn't broken?
thanks for the replies, and I apologizse if this was addressed in another thread. I've searched, read, and couldn't find anything this specific. I've read what the update contains, and what it does, and the problems with it, but I have not read anyone adress a direct comparison betweeen the options that are currently available.

[Q] Which ROM?

Years ago a friend installed CM7 on my Atrix and now it's pretty unstable. I would like to reinstall the ROM fresh. The question is, which ROM should I install. (He didn't backup before installing CM7)
I'm thinking it would be nice to go back to an official ROM but, there is CM10.1. I'm leary of going back to CM because the 10.1 ROM is not official and it doesn't seem there will be much improvements for CM on an Atrix 4G.
I'm leery of going to an official ROM because I see all the banter of bricking it with Gingerbread.
Suggestions?

The real question is what version of android do you want to run? CM7/7.2 is the only official CM ROM. CM10.1 is not official b/c of the kernel issues, which is still being worked. Does it really matter if a ROM is official or not? No. "Doesn't seem there will be much improvements for CM on an Atrix 4G."? Really? I'm not even going to post the link, I'm just going to say go google android version history and see what CM9, 10, and 10.1 have that CM7 does not have, and then restate that noob statement. Seriously, you have no idea what you are talking about.
Multiple users, including myself, have unlocked, rooted, restored to stock, many times over the past 3 yrs. In addition, there are guides readily available to help you through the process of preparing your device for custom ROMs. So the concern of bricking is a non issue unless you don't know what you're doing. Banter of bricking it only exists if you flash the incorrect sbf. Its not that hard. Sit down, read guides, ask questions as needed.
Let me be the first to admit that I am a noob and have no idea what I'm doing because this is my first foray into the world of smart phones (we all have to learn somewhere).
I went ahead and put CM10.1 on there and after adding the fixed gapp package it seems to be working fine.
Does anyone have a working link to a gingerbread ROM that works for an AT&T Atrix 4G? The links on this tread are dead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163342

[q] manual update question

Hello all, I have a question that I hope isn't already answered.
I have my T-Mobile galaxy S5 and I had rooted it and flashed roms, the whole nine yards... I then un-rooted it and flashed the stock rom (the most current at the time).
It has been a couple months since I have updated it because as you guys know, once you root your phone, you no longer get any OTA updates...
So my question is, if I go from the current stock T-Mobile build that I am on (G900TUVU1ANCH) to the most current one, correct me if I am wrong, (G900TUVU1BNG3) will I miss out on anything from the releases before that? Like I know that T-Mobile added the VoLTE software in the release before this one... if I skip that release for the new one, will I not receive that software? Do the new builds add on to the previous ones?
Thank you for your responses!

No, the latest version of the firmware is the whole firmware. It should include the whole system with all updates etc.

yup, just install the latest and your good.
As the earlier reply suggested, you do not need to install all of the firmware versions that have been released. The most current, full firmware image will be a stand alone and full featured set of features. If you find any feature missing, it would only be because Samsung or the carrier depreciated it and do not intend that feature to be available on any future firmware releases either.
So you just need to flash the most current firmware.

[Q] ROM Selection

Hi All,
Had my Verizon G3 for a bit now and everything was grand.... pre-lollipop. Post-Lollipop I've been stuck with the no notifications while on WiFi bug and for someone who spends literally 98% of my time on either my home or work WiFi this has simply become untenable for me. I'd like to root and go to, preferably, a Lollipop ROM that is not plagued by the same issues, or if I have to go back to KitKat then a ROM based on that (or perhaps there is a non-rooted solution here?).
All these things said, I've done the root/custom ROM thing back in the days of my Droid Incredible and honestly found it quite off putting to have to constantly keep up to date with ROM updates / Kernel updates / Radio updates, etc. and a lot of those even requiring wiping the phone.
My question to you fine folks is, has the game changed a bit to be a bit more friendly to like a kind of all-in-one here is your ROM/everything package, install it and get going type deal? Or is that still a pipe dream?
I appreciate that there are some steps involved prior to the installing of the ROM and I'm not opposed to those at all, I'm more worried about the nightmarish endless cycle of updates that require wipes / resets / etc. in order to fix the myriad of bugs that used to pop their heads up. I simply just want a ROM to get me through the next year or so until I can move along - and *gasp* allow me to get updates while on WiFi while having the core of the phone still functional.
Perhaps my concerns are those of days past, so please forgive my ignorance.
Any info on the topic and possible ROMs to look into (I was looking at Resurrection Remix) would be much appreciated.
Thanks! :good:

At this point, most any ROM you install will require updating. There are really no ROMs that are completely trouble free.
That said, running stock rooted may be your best choice. Rooting stock will allow you the option to block OTA updates. With root you will also be able to remove any pesky apps you do not require from LG.
Thanks for your insight. Perhaps I'll look at rooting and running a stock KitKat based ROM. If you could possibly point me in the direction of finding stock KitKat ROMs to flash to it would be much appreciated.
(sorry for posting in the wrong forum the first time)
Thanks
Jasmine 4.0 is a good 4.4 ROM. It can be found in the 7.0 thread. Just look in the first few posts. Sky dragon is also good.
Don't most roms have OTA's built in anymore? I had roms on my S4 and never had to worry, I would update and be fine, 0 wipes updating roms (Unless I was changing roms completely) and even then I have everything back up regularly so there is no hassle getting it all back.

I know some of the custom CM12 and CM12.1-based ROMs I've tried have a potentially working OTA method built into the ROM. For various reasons they're not all necessarily implemented just yet, though - probably because there's just too many constant updates to the source code to make OTAs realistic.

Very true. I do know though that CM does have OTAs. I think another part is that most CM 12 and 12.1 based roms don't change the source for the update. So you won't get any since it is no longer a CM rom and it isn't looking for the one you are using.
Stay off the nightly train and you won't have to update much at all. A dirty flash every couple of months, topped with some Gapps. I get notifications on wifi all the time. Only stock ROM tries to force you to update anyway.

Bootloaders/baseband update question

First off thanks for taking the time to check my question out. I was wondering, when it comes to flashing roms, every developer makes mention to have the latest BL/BB to run their rom. When this is mentioned, are you suppose to update the BB/BL to the new rom your flashing or to the actual phone? Example, i have the sm900p with ok2 BB/BL this is the latest for my sorint phone. But when i flash a ported 5 rom, these have different BL/BB. So do i flash the ones for the ported 5 rom?
Anyone
