First off thanks for taking the time to check my question out. I was wondering, when it comes to flashing roms, every developer makes mention to have the latest BL/BB to run their rom. When this is mentioned, are you suppose to update the BB/BL to the new rom your flashing or to the actual phone? Example, i have the sm900p with ok2 BB/BL this is the latest for my sorint phone. But when i flash a ported 5 rom, these have different BL/BB. So do i flash the ones for the ported 5 rom?

So, i've heard that when installing the newest official rom for Hero, you cannot root it the way we used to, do this prevent me from installing the modaco rom? If so, what do i need to do to install the modaco rom instead?
The Modaco custom ROM is pre-rooted so you don't have to do anything else after flashing.
Yea, that's fine, but can i just install it over the rom i already have? Or do i need to do something to prepare the phone for the new custom rom, since apparently after installing the new official rom, a new hboot get's installed which makes rooting impossible, almost, or so i've heard.
Have you look at the following thread already?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559613&highlight=hboot
That has instructions that you need to follow... And then you can flash Modaco custom.
If the next version of the Unnamed ROM moves to a new base, will that new ROM inlcude the update of the base? Will a separate firmware update be needed?
Most likely it will be a full install of the new rom, requiring a wipe, and not an update. Since it would be going up to a new release number, it would be like switching to a different rom.
Thanks. Many of your posts have been very helpful to me in getting started with the SGS2 rooted. Different from my experience with Xoom. Appreciate your time helping a noob.
Hi,
Sorry if this sounds like an idiotic question but anyway, here it goes:
I am considering flashing a custom ROM but I see in that post that it says it requires to have a slightly different version of android and/or radio than the one I currently have (ie i have 4.0.1 and the ROM "suggests" to have 4.0.2). Does this mean that I should flash a stock ROM with the necessary "requirements" first before flashing the custom ROM that I am interested in?
Thanks.
No, if you flash a stock Rom and then a costume Rom, the costume will take over the stock. Just flash the one you want but make sure you do a back up first just in case, don't ever worry as long as you back up, you'll be okay

just flash it
Thanks for the info. This is exactly why i feel a bit confused. My understanding was that the ROM would already have the new version of Android or radio wrapped into the ROM itself.
then what is the reasoning behind the "requirement for a ROM"?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

thanks.
just FYI to all, i took the dive and flash my first custom ROM successfully. thanks for the advise.
ROM and Radio are two different things, with two different flashing processes. When you flash a custom ROM, you change the entire Android operating system, but it doesn't change your radio. If you have to flash a radio, there are quite a few methods you can find if you search. Usually if you have good battery life and signal strength, then you don't need to flash a new radio. Otherwise, you may try flashing the latest radio available for your phone.
I rooted a while back and have been using Eclipse as my daily driver ever since. I don't have the time to flash roms all the time anymore, I just need something that works. I have been having major problems lately and need to install a new rom, and I can't seem to find any information on NC5 compatible roms. I know there were only certain that were compatible a while back, I'm just wondering if there is an updated list or where I can go to get the most recent and stable rom.
If you happen to have a guide for flashing said rom on safestrap that would be appreciated too , although I'm about to go searching for that. Thanks!
Hi guys,
Although I'm not a totally newbie, I mean I installed Honeycomb on the OG Desire watch out for the volume tho, but I'm totally new to the Huawei thingq, although I've owned a Ascend Mate 7 and a P9+ I never went as far as looking for root and custom ROMs, and I'm specially not educated in the whole architectural changes that treble brings.
So I've a few questions, and hopefully someone can clear some of them for me.
1- Unlocked BL means no OTA right? Also not via Firmware Finder?
2- Running stock, if a new update pops up on the web, I download the .zip and extract everything. I can flash the systems but I'm missing lots of things there, fixes on the kernel, and other stuff. Should I flash them all? Is it recommend? Or are the risks to high? Should I wait for the specific rom to be signed for my IMEI or am I okay as long as I choose the right branding (Europe for me).
3- And having magisk root... Does will it make flashing a new update any complicated?
4 - (and the last), when running a AOSP rom, is it possible/recommend to extract a new stock kernel and flash it when an update is available?
Thanks a lot
