I bought this phone a couple weeks ago, already rooted and on a stock rom , the radios and everything else is flashed for cricket.
My question is, how can I find out if I have an unlocked bootloader and a recovery installed?
May sound like a stupid question, but I'm still new for Motorola, so I'm not used to having a locked boot . My thinking is that it must be unlocked if the phone is fully flashed to cricket.
Turn the phone off and turn it back on. At the top it will say unlocked if it's unlocked. To find if it has a custom recovery turn the phone off and hold the volume down and power until you see fastboot. Then use the volume down button until you see android recovery then press volume up to enter recovery. If it goes to recovery you're good if not then it doesn't. But it will only have a custom recovery if it was unlocked before.

If you have CWM recovery you shouldn't have to hit up. You should be able to just hold power and volume down and it'll boot straight into recovery. :]
I want your phone

Alright I just traded for a photon the guy told me it was stock and wasn't rooted. Well it was rooted and on 4.5.1A-1_SUN-198.6. The bootloader was locked though. I came tried to boot into recovery and there is no recovery there. I unlocked the bootloader and tried to install the bootstrap it worked at first but when I rebooted and tried to go back into recovery again there is none on the phone. So whats my best course of action? Use RSD go back to complete stock and start over or is there a fix for this?
i think you are mixing things up a bit, bootstrap is an app that launches a custom made recovery that is kinda like a livecd version of cwm. you have to unlock and then flash it in order for it to stick
I would double check to see if you still had root. if not, you have to re-root. then install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218417
[Unlocked Only][RECOVERY][2011-09-23] Custom CWM-based Recovery 5.0.2.3-photon2.
I remember having the same problem. I just had to repeat some steps.

Dammit no matter what I do I can't get any kind of recovery to take.

Just rsd to the latest sbf once booted go into settings . Then privacy. Then factory data reset. OK now power off. Turn on holding volume down an power once screen says fastboot, let go and press volume down til u see android recovery. Press volume up to start it. When the icon comes up press volume down and volume up at same time. Now you are in recovery do what u need in there and soon you will back to 100% stock.

So I accidentally made my Photon boot into a black screen with my CWM options all in white letters. At the bottom it says "Cold booting Linux". I cannot select any options to go into Android recovery. Any one ever see/hear of this and if so, how do I fix it. Thanks in advance.

I should also add that every time I select android recovery, all of my options reload themselves and OS boot in 5 seconds appears.

You need to reinstall your recovery.. Via fastboot or bootstrap. One of those two should def work. Worst case scenario is a SBF back to stock, I had that issue and sbf'd instead of trying recovery install.. was stupid..
Edit : Nevermind. It does look like you need to fastboot flash recovery. Should only take a few minutes to do.
Mine does the same thing. When the phone first boots you have 5 seconds to toggle. Press the down volume button until it says recovery. Then volume up to select it. No need to flash recovery unless you miss the M bootlogo.
I got to this mode by partitioning emmc or something like that. I got into the partition menu in CWM and there was no go back option. It was an accident for sure, but hasn't affected operations. I just don't have the M while booting.

That is the same thin I get, however I cannot go into CWM. When I select it, it just reboots that menu. When I get back home today, I'm gonna install CWM like its my first time again. Thus time I can choose another color other then orange.

I need to flash a new rom, i was using MIUI but my phone is now stuck on the torch screen (even after pulling batter, it goes right back to torch). My issue is that i can flash a new rom or load a nanodroid because my volume rocker does not work. I can get into CWM through the power options on the phone but i can navigate inside CWM. Anyone have any suggestions?

You could try flashing cwm touch recovery
Sent from my MB860 running Jokersax's CM9
I have heard of that, but is there a way to flash it without getting into rom manager? As soon as my phone turns on it is stuck on the flash light app screen. I can hold the power down and get the power wheel but thats about it.
If you can access fastboot you could flash the recovery with fastboot.
Sent from my MB860 running Jokersax's CM9
The only two ways I know to get into fast boot are through the startup of the atrix using volume rocker(which i cant do). And using the power wheel, unfortunately MIUI doesn't have the option for fastboot in it's power wheel. Thanks in advanced for any help you provide.
Wow, you are kind of stuck here dude. What about trying with ADB? Im no ADB expert. but there may be a "reboot fastboot" command.
Yeah it sucks, i have never touched adb before. But i was thinking, there has to be a way to control CWM from adb. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

Here's a site which installs touch recovery using adb. Hope this works.

thank you man, i fixed it by having a friend call me. but i will still install it.
Easy. Inside the newest romracer cwm use menu key for down, home key for up, back for back, and search for select.

The Low FPS was killing me lol. When you're in bootloader. Select fastboot. You are in Hboot mode. Click Fastboot, download my toolkit from here.

Flash CWM and you will be good to go.

andsorry for the low fps and whatnot xD my HD2's camera is pretty bad lmao
worked like a charm many thakns!
One more question though: i can't seem to normally boot into Hboot or whatever its called now unless i pull battery, is there a fix for that?
I was wondering, is there anyway to access recovery from my phone without my computer hooked up. I was just wondering about flashing a mod, and didn't want to have to use my computer.

Pull ur battery, put in back in, wait about 15 sec the hold power and volume down at the same time. Select recovery from the list of options

Or since you're on a custom ROM with the power menu... Just hold Power until the reboot menu pops up > choose Restart > choose Recovery.
No battery pull necessary.

Fast boot is turned on for me and it still works... I haven't turned fast boot off, and I've booted into both bootloader and recovery from the reboot menu in the OS.

If a custom rom, just hold power then select restart..then recovery . Otherwise, pull battery then reinsert and press power while holding volume down.

Already posted that, and since his XDA app sig is "sent from ViperRez" I assumed he was already on a custom ROM that has said menu .
