I need to flash a new rom, i was using MIUI but my phone is now stuck on the torch screen (even after pulling batter, it goes right back to torch). My issue is that i can flash a new rom or load a nanodroid because my volume rocker does not work. I can get into CWM through the power options on the phone but i can navigate inside CWM. Anyone have any suggestions?

You could try flashing cwm touch recovery
Sent from my MB860 running Jokersax's CM9
I have heard of that, but is there a way to flash it without getting into rom manager? As soon as my phone turns on it is stuck on the flash light app screen. I can hold the power down and get the power wheel but thats about it.
If you can access fastboot you could flash the recovery with fastboot.
Sent from my MB860 running Jokersax's CM9
The only two ways I know to get into fast boot are through the startup of the atrix using volume rocker(which i cant do). And using the power wheel, unfortunately MIUI doesn't have the option for fastboot in it's power wheel. Thanks in advanced for any help you provide.
Wow, you are kind of stuck here dude. What about trying with ADB? Im no ADB expert. but there may be a "reboot fastboot" command.
Yeah it sucks, i have never touched adb before. But i was thinking, there has to be a way to control CWM from adb. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

Here's a site which installs touch recovery using adb. Hope this works.
Whoops forgot the link: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-clockworkmod-recovery-touch-on-motorola-atrix-4g-how-to/

thank you man, i fixed it by having a friend call me. but i will still install it.
Easy. Inside the newest romracer cwm use menu key for down, home key for up, back for back, and search for select.

Hi all i think i have bricked my aria, the power button doesnt work and my cm7 rom crashed and i dont know/cant get into recovery i can get into the stock recovery but to use it you need to use the power button to select options. any ideas? thanks
If you have CM7 installed you don't have stock recovery anymore, you have Clockwork Recovery instead. What version of Clockwork are you using? Newer versions use the trackball to select, you could try that.
Maybe you're confusing "stock recovery" with the bootloader screen. If that's the case, try installing the Android SDK w/ ADB on your computer and using the USB connection to run the command adb reboot recovery.

It must be since the stock recovery is erased with CWM in order to be able to flash the rom.
Have phone off and plug into wall USB. Should go into cwm, right?

It can't be stock recovery you got into. It must be CWM recovery you got into since the stock recovery is erased once CWM is flashed. This had to be done for you to install CM7. Have you experienced problems with your power button before your rom crashed? And how exactly did it crash?

I'm still a little confused at to your situation. Is your phone currently off or on? If your power button doesn't work, how did you access the bootloader?
Anyway yes, normally holding down and power on will take you to the bootloader, at which point you can select recovery. If your phone is currently off and the power button doesn't work, you have two options:
1. As andrew.cambridge suggested, plug the phone into the charger. That should bring up clockwork unless you have an off-mode charging version
2. Use ADB to send a recovery command from your computer

Don't edit your post to say something completely different when you realize you were wrong. At least use strikethrough and add the correction.
sorry what is strikethrough? what should i have done? i can get my phone on by plugging charger in then putting battery in but it goes into the bootloader i think but it has an option for recovery but i cant select it
What you need to do is turn off the phone completely (do a battery pull or whatever you do to turn it all the way off). When off, put the battery back in (if it is not in already). Then plug your phone into the wall charger while it is STILL OFF. This should prompt it to go into ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM).
I would redownload your whatever ROM you are planning to use and the correlating version of gapps (Google Apps) to your computer. Unplug your USB from the wall charger and plug it into your computer. In CWM, use the trackball to go to the mounts and storage option and press the trackball to select, then go down to the mount USB tab and click it. This will mount your SD card to your computer. You can then transfer the zip files of your newly downloaded ROM and Gapps to your phone. Once finished transferring, click the mount USB option again to unmount it from the computer. Then you need to click go back.
Now you need to do a full wipe. Click wipe data/factory reset then yes. Once done, click wipe cache partition, then yes. Once done, click on mounts and storage and you need to click format system, then yes. Once done, click format data, then yes. Once done, click format cache, then yes. Once done, click format sd-ext (if it exists), then yes.
Now you need to install your ROM and gapps. Click install zip from sdcard and navigate to your ROM zip file, click it, then yes. Once done, do the same for your gapps zip file.
Now you need to click the reboot system now button. It will take a little bit for it to boot, so give it plenty of time. This should get you back on your feet.

Also, STAria was referring to the user Theonew, with regards to the strikethrough and add correction statement.
Thanks for your reply, No luck with that unfortunately when i do that nothing happens. If i plug the charger in then put the battery in the phone turns on but just goes to the cyanogen screen and stays there

That's the bootanimation. Have you tried letting it sit there for like 10 minutes?
Does it ever actually boot into CM7?
Ok. Try connecting your phone to your computer and use ADB to boot your phone into recovery.

When you say it gets stuck, do you mean that the arrow stops moving and it just stays there or the animation just keeps going and CM7 never actually loads out? Anyways, this happened to me before and all I had to do was a full wipe/reset and reflash the rom. Everything went well after that. Did you follow ALL the instructions given in post #11? This should have fixed the problem.
it stays on that screen forever if i let it, also all i get is cannot find device when i try and adb into it. What state does your phone need to be in to use adb?
Do you have the phone drivers installed on your computer?

I applied the steelblue theme from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042365
After applying in CWM, I rebooted, but I am stuck on the reboot screen.
What do I do now?
If it helps, I accidentally ran the theme on 2.3.4 when I'm pretty sure it was meant for the older version of android.
I only realized until later, and by then it was too late.

Power off phone > hold power button and volume down button together and hold it until "fastboot" appears > as soon as you see "fastboot" appear ..use volume rockers to scroll through list and select "android recovery"...IF you made a backup ..install your back up. But since you're asking how to get into recovery...pretty you didn't make a backup ..did you?

Actually I just did.
Just now, my atrix randomly booted into recovery mode(looks like this: http://atrix4ghacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/atrix-4g-clockworkmod-recovery-6-300x257.jpg) , so the first thing i did was make a backup. But is there any way to just boot into the normal unthemed state from here?
I tried to select rebooting, but it still booted into Steel Blue. So i took the battery out and turned it back on and did some random stuff until it booted back into CWM. Can I somehow unflash the Steel Blue theme and boot back to the normal state? I know, its probably a stupid question. But I'm pretty new, so I dont really know what I'm doing. :|
CWM won't work on my AT&T SGSII. It installs ok, but when I boot into it, anything I choose just goes to CWM hat logo and stays there until I hit any key. Then it goes right back to menu and I have to pull the battery to reboot into android. The device is rooted and I have no issues other than being unable to flash or nandroid or anything through CWM. It's driving me nuts!. I've tried going back to stock and several kernels and same issue persists. Anyone have any tips on how to address this?
You could try updating cwm in Rom manager from the market place

Using home button to select? If you're using power button it will cause menu to disappear.

Hi Guys,
Last night for some reason my GT-19100T running CM9.1.0 wouldn't lock by pressing the power button, the button itself seems to be working. I can press the button down but nothing happens. I left it for the night and came into work this morning, I thought it might be a bug with the rom, i managed to boot into recovery via the "Rom Manager" app and was going to flash to CM10. My problem is now that i am in recovery, I can't select anything as the power button is not working. I can scroll through the recovery menu with the volume buttons but cant select anything, and now soon as the phone turns on after removing the battery, it goes straight to recovery mode and i cant get around it.
I have tried leaving the battery out for about 3 hours and same thing. I can boot into download mode, But at the moment that doesn't help me.
Any suggestions on what i can do? I'm not worried about warranty so i may pull the phone apart and clean it tonight. Thanks in advance.
Update:
After much playing around with the button i can get it work, it is very temperamental and requires to be pushed in the right way. Was able to flash with Touch recovery and am now updating to CM10 nightlies. Thanks all for your help on my first post.

Hi!
First, have you tried flashing a stock firmware? If that does not help, you can try cleaning your hardware.. it may be dusty or something.. be careful! I hope you get this sorted out.
Also, i hope my suggestion will help you out, cheers!!

Okay, Flashed back to stock ICS rom, Got a little bit further but still no go. It gets the "S" loading screen and stays there, Still cant do factory reset via Android Recovery as it also needs the power button to select. Someone suggested installing CWM touch recovery but i cant find a .tar version of "recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5-galaxys2" downloaded from CWM website. Any suggestions on how i can install this without using recovery? Thanks.

I guess you have to flash them with odin..
1. Flash a stock firmware to get you out of bootloop
2. Flash the latest siyah kernel cause it's a touch recovery via odin as well
Do you want me to post the links or will you find it yourself?

I know you will be loosing everything, well unless you have a backup. I would suggest NVflash back to stock with CWM recovery. Then reload the ROM of choice to see or even just boot it into TapUI so see if the problem is Hardware related or UI related. It is tough to say.
i think its hardware, i gave it a nice hard wack and it seems ok...
the thing is i started to save/backup and go back to tap tap. thinking ill use my warrantee,
now it is stuck in a boot mode, turns on, starts to run but only getting to the tap embelm. it does this over and over maybe 6 second intervals..
any ideas??
i cannot get to cwm, and reload gtab or do anything. am i screwed??

Try NVflashing with the stock 1.1 BL with recovery ver.8 preinstalled, after done power device off by holding down power button. The just boot straight to recovery and do a data wipe factory reset then reboot system. The reason for the boot loop is there is still something on the name that the tnt software doesn't like. After you get it booted up then advice just NVflash 1.1 stock with stock recovery and it should boot right up afterwards. The reason for the 2nd nvflash is to remove any tracef the customs recovery.

Sounds like that you are using the NVflash with Stock recovery. When you hold down volume + and press the power button it is booting into stock recovery hence the triangle symbol. You need to get a fresh NVflash setup that includes CWM recovery and use it.
