Hello there!
I recently broke the display (glass) and the touch won't work on my Galaxy tab.. And in that occasion I'm wondering: Where can i get a new screen for a low price? Is it hard to change the old broken glass, with the new glass?
Best regards,
DanVazz
you can try http://www.lingosbox.com/100-origin...-digitizer-replacement-6-in-1-open-tools.html
Another one would be http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gorilla-Gla...Tab-10-1-GT-P7510-P7500-/320789941756#vi-desc
Hi .. I have the same thing happen to me ..
I replaced mine with the replacement from ebay ..
Its actually a simple swap .. but you will need a triangle screwdriver
The other thing you need to watch out for when removing the broken glass is .. well broken glass .. it shattered into millions of tiny shards .. so be careful ..
The glue that sticks the glass to the case is quite sticky .. so if you pry .. make sure you don't scratch the lcd screen underneath .. there's about 0.5" of space around the rim thats just the gluey tape no LCD ..
Sorry i forgot to mention it is a P7510 tablet, don't really know if there are much difference with P7500.
Quote:
"So if your PDA can't show picture, you need to buy the LCD(which includes the touch screen/digitizer). If your PDA can't be touched by your PDA pen, but can show picture well, then you only need to buy one touch screen/digitizer which price is much cheaper than the LCD."
Will this one work then (Had to remove direct link so i could post on this forum)?
ebay.com/itm/Gorilla-Glass-Lens-Touch-Screen-panel-Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-10-1-GT-P7510-P7500-/320789941756#vi-desc
Thanks a lot for all help gunzo71!
there's a difference .. I spent 100usd finding that out .. I bought a P7500 for my P7510 ..
The 7500 is SMALLER than the 7510 .. I don't know why .. the glass doesn't cover the entire 7510 ..
doesn't matter if you're using gorilla glass (ie ipad2 BIG DEAL) .. it still shatters LOL
The Gorilla glass I sent you seems to be for both Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 GT-P7510 P7500, is that right? I can't really understand it myself.. as you said the P7500 is smaller. Another place its written: Touch Screen Digitizer Panel Glass Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 P7510 P7100 I905 T859
I'm starting to get confused here..
I was about to ask you, how i should open the tablet but i found this page:
techrepublic.com/photos/cracking-open-the-samsung-galaxy-tab-101/6258363
Posted the link to the page, since there might be some other guys wondering about the same thing.
Thank you for helping me out of this mess

gunzo71: How hard and risky is it to change the screen without bringing it in for service?
I bought mine in the US (BestBuy), and since I live in Norway, it's quite hard to bring it back to where i bought it.
I just replaced my wife tab's screen a week or so ago. Note that this is a P7510. I ordered my replacement unit from ebay ( link ). They even threw in some tools (such as the plastic triangle you'll need). How kind

Definitely broken
Before you start: WEAR LATEX GLOVES! Shattered screen is shattered, so bits of glass might get onto your hands or worse: cut you.
You have to seperate the screen/unit from the backcover with a plastic triangle or plectrum. Then carefully detach the flatcable and I'd recommend pulling out the battery plug as well to prevent the unit from turning on while you work on it.
Here's a pic of where the two connectors are located on the back of the device (click for larger!):
Here is a vid that'll give you some reference to what you'll be doing. It also shows how the battery plug and digitizer connector can be unplugged. Vid here
Knife totally necessary
Then remove the screen by either carefully cutting through the glue (that's what I did; be very very patient) or by heating the bezel with a heat gun (not tested, but saw this in a repair vid). As you can see from the image above, I used a dull knife for this which I kept pointed away from the device and sort-of into the back of the glass plate. Stay away from the LCD underneath the glass: it's a very soft surface and you can damage it if you're not careful with your sharp object of choice.
Keep a vacuumcleaner handy; there might be a lot of little glass shards coming of the tab. You also might want to do this operation in a box of some sort to collect all the glass coming of.
Face off!!
Then patiently remove excess glue. Don't worry about buying double sided tape: the replacement digitizer has an adhesive layer on the back.
Before you put the new screen on: this is THE time to wipe the LCD clean. Most likely there will be dust and fingerprints on it. Wipe it clean because it will be locked under the new glassplate when you're done. This might also be the moment to stop and marvel at the pretty internals of the device
View attachment 813154
After that it's just a matter of properly aligning the screen (note the camera holes!) and carefully lowering it onto the unit, making sure it's straight. I used my fingers as guides to make sure all edges were aligned.
If it is properly alligned, press down on the bezel and it should be fixed to your Tab. Flip the unit over and reattach the digitizer flatcable and then the batteryplug. Finally, pop on the back cover again and make sure it snaps into place all around. When I did this, the rubber seal of the microphone (next to the connector at the bottom of the device; in the pic I posted somewhat on the left where that white sticker ends) came loose. I noticed this and just pressed it back on; be sure to check this before you snap the backcover onto the device.
And you're done!!! Good as new. Also it is now my Tab
DISCLAIMER: I'm not an electronics repairman, just someone who's stupid enough to just go at it. I might've done some big no-no's (like the knife), but the result is pretty good looking. You should be able to do this if you have a reasonable steady hand and patience.
Now I'm left with one last question (for now).. Does it matter if I order a 7500 or 7510 screen? As I read other places - the only difference is that 7500 is with 3G and 7510 is Wifi only? Since earlier in the post I was told that 7500 got a smaller screen than 7510..
Someone that can clear that one up for me?
Like gunzo71 said above: he noticed difference in screen size, so I'd try to find one that says it's for your model just to be safe. If it doesn't fit you can always send it back and tell the vendor he send you the wrong one.
Hi Guys,
What are the findings/ experiences on the screen?? Because Ebay sellers still offer the screens as the same size.
Maybe it has something to do with different bezel sizes?? Like the 3g version you have to screw with the connector and the wifi versions not.
I started my own thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427555
Just received the glass from the Ebay vendor listed here .. it fits nicely
it is definitely heavier than standard tab .. so could be stronger glass as claimed ..
I just swapped out my previous one versus the new one .. here's some comparison
I apologise .. the previous model glass I bought was P7100 .. the P7500 and P7510 are the same

AHAAAA that explains why it didn't fit the P7510, a P7100 glas on a P7510/P7500 that was a doomed failure....
So conclusion....it doesnt matter which type of glass you have whether its p7510 or P7500
I was getting worried because of you
And i see you havent got the Samsung Logo on the glass.
As i really want to keep it original. I did ask for it.... was a few bucks more.
Thanks...

Gunzo, my P7100 glass broke, the LCD part still working, touchscreen isnt working properly.
Now i looking for the P7100 (10.1V) touchscreen part, but cannot seem to find it at ebay. Found only one, but it says to be compatible with P7100, P7500 and P7510 which is confusing me!
Can you link me the glass you bought for the P7100?

I post the last photo showing the original screen protector on my phone only to prove that i installed my screen protector by myself without a single air bubble up to my friends can't get that there is a protector on my screen and what happened with the Invisible Shield was not due to lake of experience
if you are going to buy Invisible Shield u have to know:
Invisible Shield Disadvantages
1-it is not 4 ur phone.
2-it collects dirts.
3-it peels off.
all of that = UGLY
The only advantage 4 me : it makes ur phone less slippery in ur grip ( BUT to consider to buy on every month )
I have a TP2 with a shield on it. The Zagg Corporation is based in SLC, Utah which is very close to me. I have a shield on all of my things and it is one of the best products ever made. You or whoever put that on does not know what they are doing! FYI the shield has a lifetime warranty. You do not keep buying it!
You cant be serious. Do you sell the generics on ebay?? There has to be more to this because the cuts are insanely worng on that thing!! You sell the generics on ebay and are looking to boost sales? Thats all i can figure
Anyways, was going to actualy order 2 of those for the tilt 2's but now i need to do a little more research. By the looks of it, it seems you are very rough with your phone, but thats not really what this is about. Bubble wrap might be a better wrap for you LOL
Anyone else with the product - IS IT really cut as bad as THAT ????
Nope.
I've had my shield for two months so far and it doesn't look anything like this. First of all it was cut ok - it fits my unbranded TP2 precisely. Second - I haven't got a single bubble, only few little marks in places where phone has been hit hard. And I'm not writing this because I'm a Zagg fan - I'm not. I'll be changing the whole phone casing for black/red in some time and I'd like to try Bodyguardz now.
I have the budyguardz on my Tilt it turn to yellowish after 3 months.
I just purchased this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280410139530&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT for my Tilt 2.
It stated that it will not change color over time.
Hopefully it is true.
I have had multiple full body invisa shields for multiple phones (tilt, iphone, fuze) and I have NEVER had one look like this after 2 weeks. That looks more like what mine have looked like after about 8 months. You obviously did a HORRIBLE job applying this to your phone. Where did you purchase yours? Mine fits just as it should. Anyone thinking about purchasing one please disregard this "review" of the product. My Fuze looks just as good as it did on the day I bought it after switching to my Tilt2 and removing the old skin.
In wrong place

I bought a ClearProtector (unbranded version) and tried to put it on a Tilt 2, and failed miserably. It was the right shape and size, but try as I might I just could not get the corners to fit correctly.
Interestingly enough, ClearProtector is in Draper, UT which is a suburb of SLC, UT. Maybe they share office space with Zagg?
I had a Mogul for which I bought two Zagg Shields because I had to get warranty refurbs. While I was waiting for my second refurb to come in and before purchasing a third Zagg Shield, an associate of mine told me he never applied a screen protector and never had an issue. So I decided to forgo the protector for the third refurb, figuring I'd probably have to get another along the way.
When I upgraded to the Diamond, I didn't bother. I didn't bother with my new TP2. My assistant put the in-box screen protector on, and his screen is less sensistive than mine and it looks less sharp.
Is the screen protector even necessary? I stash mine on a belt clip holder (nerdy yes, but functional) and I haven't had any issues with scratches and whatnot. Is the screen protector a force of habit or a real necessity?
I, too, was once like you.
I had screen protectors on my Blue Angel, and on my Universal.
I then got my Kaiser and had a screen protector on that, but it peeled one day and I thought I'd try without it. I managed for about 6 weeks but one day it fell out of my in-car holder, and landed screen-first on the runners for the seat in the car.
Result? One big scratch on the screen.
Though the phone still worked and the touchscreen was ok, using a stylus was annoying as it would jump over the scratch and make things less fluid.
If I'd have had a screen protector on there, I would have simply had to replace that.
Since then, I'm sticking to screen protectors. It's a necessary evil.
Man the shield in those pics look disgusting lol~
Thanks for sharing. : )
I have always used them with no issues what so ever, and I live on the ocean front! Also, you can remove it, soak it in water, and reinstall it if you know what you are doing. Patience is a virtue when installing it..... I have had one on my Athena too for 5 years now with no problems either!Mine fits much better than the one that you show..... Later
the cuts on the shield are not perfect but provide enough protection to prevent scratches...I got the all body protector and had the screen protector but cleaned with alcohol and damaged the screen protector...my fault though...I am quite pleased with this product..
How come that
Even if i was harsh with my shield (which is not true )
can any one explain to me why the shield did not fit my phone as i illustrate in the following photos:
in this photo you will see that the shield edges not aligned with the phone lines.
and in this one i try to demonstrate how the shield was more taller than my phone as the red line shows the actual extension of the shield before i cut the excess material i also draw the actual position of the hand strap hole which located over the mini USB (the red one) before i made the ugly (yellow one)
You're kidding, right?
Tha shield material is flexible. I think you pulled too hard while applying to the device.
Mine is ok, though I was hoping for a better shield - the most important places to protect are the corners and the shield does a bad job in protecting them.
Also I use the original screen protector, not the invisible shield one because it's not smooth enough to slide the pen over the screen.
So, invisible shield - which by the way is NOT invisible - does protect the device half, but it is cut well for the form of the device.
I had Zagg full body shield on my TP1 and after a few months it actually started peelign as well. The screen part was actually ok, but the back started peeling just like on the pictures above. So I am not surprised.
i actually waiting on UPS as we speak...!!! I originally ordered a bodygardz, after a week went by, they sent me an email stating they canceled my order, but did not provide an explanation...i called customer service repeatedly....alas, I was greeted w/ voicemail...still havent rcvd a call back...will never do business w/ them again....
hopefully this invisible shield works out for me... :-/
I use invisible shield too for the tp2 and I know its pain in the ass applying it but once done properly and after a week (all bubbles go away) it looks worth it and definitely not like the one on the pictures posted here.
Regards
I happen to smash the touchscreen glass. Everything is still working: touchscreen with multi-touch, the video screen is not damaged at all. It is just the top glass.
Any suggestions where to get the replacement and how to replace it?

Try Viewsonic customer service
or... buy another one and take the gla... nevermind.
So this confirms the answer to my post about whether it is plastic or glass? The Rain X poster said that screen was "plastic" but I thought it was glass....
Might be a slip of the keyboard. It sure pings like plastic. Maybe the original poster has a photo?

I should have used "plasticky" I don't know if the touch-panel substrate is polycarbonate or tempered glass/pyrex. My tooth test says probably some sort of glass but it's weirder than regular glass... sort of like a clear version of those unbreakable corel plates (tap your tooth onto the surface - you'll get what I mean). The plastic surface I was referring to in the Rain-X thread is the thin UV cured hard film surface that protects the flexible touch detection layers just below. Think of it as fancy thin clearcoat. I should have worded it more carefully (but it was the middle of the night and my brain had already shut down)
Broken glass
Here are some pictures pictures. There are some glass (ish?) particles under the screenprotecttor
Here are some more pictures of the broken glass
another batch of broken glass.
By the way Viewsonic was not able to help, nobody there was able to name any place to get the replacement screen to be installed myself or any service facility.
You can try to some chinese sites that sell zpad. They may also sell just the screen. I have seen some sites selling the screen for the gpad (the ipad clone) such as pandawill.com
Could not find any link to digitizer glass on pandawill.com or aliexpress .
Just for curiosity, how hard did the hit was; it would be intresting to know how durable our really g-pad are.
BTW: I am sorry about the screen.
I cracked my screen too... it's on the corner but it still works. But I rather get it repaired/replaced. I have yet to find any replacement screen online.. It's driving me nuts.
Go upstream
If VS can't help, try asking the integrator (Malata) or the touch-panel manufacturer (Sintek Photronics). Some contact info:

I cracked my screen in the corner as well. I dropped the tab from about a foot onto a pillow, it fell off the pillow about an inch or two and the screen glass looks like I took a hammer to it. I could have been more careful for sure, but I have dropped electronics much, much harder and nothing. When it hit the floor I kept walking cause I thought it was nothing, when I looked at it in the morning it was FUBAR. If I can fix this I will certainly post details on how to fix it.

I need a replacement as well. I also looed at pandawill and only saw replacements for Ipad. PLEASE help me! Everything still works on mine but my glass incompletely shattered.
OK, i have a question but it needs some background first:
i bought a DNA from the local Craigslist, the ad plainly said that the screen was cracked AND that they already had the replacement digitizer (i had not done enough research at this time, obviously or i wouldn't be here). So i love the phone, read all sorts of awesome reviews etc. I get home, i proceed to take the DNA apart (i have done this with multiple iPhones, and a couple other phones as well for various fixes, so it's not foreign to me)
so, i finally reach the screen, and come to realize that the LCD is FACTORY GLUED to the Digitizer.
so, my question is this, can i:
1. Order JUST an LCD and install it WITH the Digitizer/Glass that i have already (from the Craigslist seller) or
2. do i HAVE to order the WHOLE ASSEMBLY, and somehow FIND a way to sell this Digitizer? (and of course, as any good forum needs, WHY?)
hmm, seems like more than one question, but you get the idea... if i left any pertinent information out, just let me know.
EDIT: ok, since it's sunday i'm holding out on ordering anything, but before i go to bed tonight, imma order the LCD, to use with the Digitizer i already have... (do i need to glue them together or something?) unless someone has a good reason to do otherwise...

Was wondering what you came up with on this. I ordered the glass, and im assuming mine is glued too.
What did you end up doing?
Same boat here too. Just broke my screen earlier this afternoon. I called one place (ubreakifix.com) and they won't touch a DNA due to the glue issue. Anyone gotten one repaired?

FIRST: i HIGHLY recommend you get the LCD AND Digitizer assembly to avoid all this headache I describe below.
i wrote a HUGE reply last night, around midnight Mountain time, only to press 'preview post' and a page come up saying the website is down temporarily or something... and it was all lost... anyway...
i have my phone in a usable state, but only after 3 tries, and am still planning to open it up again to put more 'finishing touches' in there;
first time i opened it up: removed broken screen/LCD, at this point i didn't know that the LCD was glued (original post). So i ordered the LCD like i said i was gonna do, and the first time i put it in, i tried to hot glue it into the frame, this didn't work for a couple reasons; it was allowing light in on the sides of the LCD and it was allowing particles in on top of the lcd under the glass (very irritating).
EDIT: just wanted to add, that the screen is stuck to the frame, it SEEMS to be glue, but once you get it apart, you see that it's just really strong double sided tape, and you have to heat it up to get the glass off of the frame.
second time i opened it up: i decided to super glue the LCD to the digitizer (only used 4 spots of glue), this caused a pressure problem, still not sure why, but it was like the LCD pressure when you put your finger on a non-glass laptop screen (similar anyway).
Third time i opened it up, i figured i would follow a similar process of the HTC Evo 4g that i fixed for a friend, and i had a roll of REALLY THIN double sided tape left over (you can find the tape on amazon, just search for "2mm 3m adhesive sticker tape"); my first try i just put a strip of tape on the top of the glass, at the lowest i could without it going into the 'viewable area' and the same on the bottom, i stuck the lcd on here lightly, didn't push it down yet so i could see if there were any problems, and there were. The LCD likes to flex slightly, so i needed some tape on the sides to keep it from bowing up against the glass, and causing another 'pressure spot', so i added one small strip of tape on both sides to help with that, and it's working really well right now
THIS is where my phone stands as of this writing.
I'm still planning on opening it up yet again (getting good at it lol) to add more tape around the sides AND (this is important if your annoyed by little things) CUT THE EXCESS TAPE that is sticking out past the LCD as this holds the glass up from the frame by a small amount, but it's enough to be annoying. I also want to say DO NOT simply run a razor blade down the side of the LCD to cut the excess tape off as you'll cut the TINY Digitizer connections underneath the tape, and then you would have to get a whole 'nother digitizer and nobody wants to do that.
as always, this is just my opinion and what i've found ON MY PHONE, so if anything here causes damage to your phone, i'm not responsible.
Your superglue mention caught my eye. I made that mistake several years ago with a device that wasn't touch screen. what I didn't plan for was the fumes. As the gasses evaporated they sort of melted/etched the glass or plastic around them. The pressure you mentioned could it be from the superglue or fumes breaking the material down?

I have also tried seperating the digitizer from the LCD and phone itself. There seems to be the double sided tape only on the LCD. Then there is a different adhesive on the top around the camera. These pics may show it a little better.

I have yet to find a digitizer with the adhesive already on it. I'm waiting on adhesive for a note 2 which I should be able to trim to fit. Replacing the whole digitizer assembly is easier but a lot more expensive.

i used really old superglue, so it took like an hour or some-such to dry, but i think the pressure was from glueing it in the wrong place, and the frame putting pressure on it somewhere. But you could be right too, either way, superglue is NOT a good idea
So the digitizer and LCD can be pulled from each other? Just got to be careful?

sorry about the half off topic question
if i will order LCD that already come with digitzier attached to him.
there is a problem to replace the old lcd & digitizer ?
cuz as i read here, there big problem is to replace only the digitizer..

correct, the only problem is if they're separate, if you order the whole assembly, Digitizer and LCD already glued together (recommended), then the only issue you'll have is getting the broken glass off of the frame's adhesive, just be careful, use heat, but not too much because the frame is NOT metal, it actually doesn't take much to soften that frame's adhesive, i used the heat off my little desk lamp, worked great, could only do one 'section' of the phone at a time, but that's all you need.

Thanks for your answer, one more question please..
The screen himself - that i will pull out of the phone, isnt glued to the body of the phone?

Yes it it stuck to the body, but no, it's not glue, it's just really strong double sided tape, and needs heat to help it let go of the pieces
hey,
I know this thread is over a month old but I recently just shattered the digitizer on my DNA as well and haven't really seen one of the most important questions answered.
For those of you that replaced the the entire assembly, is the quality of the OEM LCDs as good as the original? I know it's extremely time consuming to melt the adhesive and have everything back in one piece, but if the quality of the S-LCD3 on the original is better than the OEM replacement ones I would spend the extra time to do it.

i don't believe there's a difference, OEM stands for 'Original Equipment Manufacturing', so that SHOULD mean it's the same as original.
I'm no expert tho, just a guy with a phone trying to get by on a budget.
GOOD NEWS!
the whole 'assembly' (the digitizer AND LCD glued together as it was from factory) is now down to under 100$ US on eBay!
on a side note, i dropped my phone a couple weeks ago and broke the top right corner, nothing else is wrong, just a crack in the top right corner, going from the ear-speaker to the right edge
So a few weeks ago I cracked my phone and like all others I was pretty pissed.... The digitizer worked it was just the glass I did my research and found that I would need to replace the entire thing..... But hell I bought a new glass from amazon for 10$ a dollar set of playing cards and a razor blade for another buck and used my girls blow dryer and used up half an hour of my night and presto the phone looks like new the reason for this post is to let you know that it's possible to change the glass what makes it easy is that my girl held the blow dryer as I used the cards to pry the glass of your up for the task and need help let me know

Wow. That is good to know.
So, you were able to heat the screen until the digitizer/LCD came off clean from the glass? How did you stick the glass back on to the digitizer/LCD?
Congrats! That is really good news. Would you be kind enough to provide more detail on the process. There are many of us that would benefit from new glass but there really isn't much in the way of tutorials. I already hit your Thanks button.
P.S. If you are kind enough to write something up I recommend a better title. Maybe something like "How to replace your glass on the Original Note" or something similar.
Yeah you usually got to heat up that glass to help it come out lose. I also got a cracked screen and I'm also waiting for it. I got my adhesive tape from China yesterday. My ? Is before I do this does the glass come with any adhesive or it will just pop right into the note?

There are three layers : glass, LCD, digitizer.
When I replaced my entire screen, I had to stick glass, LCD, digitizer into one piece. There were adhesives on them (at least the ones I bought did).
Then, you need few pieces of double-sided tape to stick the entire screen to the housing.
Kudos
I immediately hit the Thanks button because, as others have pointed out, it's really nice to know it can be done. Thankfully, my note is in pretty good shape. I did have a cracked screen on my BB back in the day and was able to replace the screen/digitizer. Maybe someone can post a video tutorial one day.
how i replaced the broken glass part on my note
ok guy im going to write this as best as i can and please be kind this will be the first diy post i have ever done.......
1. ok step one taking apart the phone... this is very easy you can youtube this step its really simple.....just take out the battery cover battery sim card and sd card
2.now remove all the screws in the buttome there are 9 screws .

.....8 of them around the phone and one of them in the middle around the part where you insert the battery....
3. this is where it gets just a bit tricky you must "pop" off the screen i used a plastic razor blade around the bazel work around the phone it should pop out without much struggel but be very careful not to bend the digitizer it can break..
4. ok once u removed the screen out of the back cover there are 2 screws connecting the motherboard removed them and disconnect all ribbon connections
5. ok this is where the tricky part begins........first of all i want to say and just to be safe that im just typing this to help out because like most i dont want to pay 200$ for a new screen and digitizer so if you try this and fail im sorry and please dont blame me...
ok start of by using your blow dryer(what i used) or heat gun and work it over the phone not to close and dont just aim it in one certain spot work around it up and down laft and right.... once you do this about a minute or two very ooh so very carefully incert ur blade at the top this is the best approach so i think...and lift up if need to ask someone to keep using the heat gun while you do this it will save you lots of time..once you start to pry up the glass it will start to crack more and more that fine....once you start to remove the glass pieces (use tweezers) try to wedge a playing card inside (the card helps out soooo much you can work it in between the broken glass and the digitizer with out harming the digitizer)....now if you can with one hand more the card down the phone and use the heat gun you will start to see the glue separate from the digitizer....just move slowly and carefully.... just keep wedging the playing card and using the heat gun.
6. by this point you should have more then half the glass removed that part took me about 10 mins.. ok one thing you have to look after once you get to the buttom is be careful once you get to the buttons (home back search menu) try not to damage the connector under the screen what i did once i got to that part was i lifted the last of the glass and carefully pulled with tweezers.....then voila!!! the glass should all be off the digitizer...
7..to clean off all the glue off the digitizer i started by using a new playing card and using the edges i scraped the screen not using to much pressure once i got off what i could then i honestly used 2 microfiber cloths one i sprayed windex multipurpose on it(the cloth not the phone) and started to rub it gently that should help remove just about all of it then i made sure the edges where clean no glue on sides no little broken pieces of glass on buttom or top of the phone where the adhesive is...then used a clean micro fiber cloth to just give it a final wipe...
8. for putting on the new glass i did not use new adhesive....nore any type of new glue....i just made sure i had everything ready to go made sure i was not missing anything...every clean no glass pieces no glue on digitizer..MADE SURE DIGITIZER WAS 100% CLEAN....theni grabber my brow dryer heated the adhesive on top and buttom of the phone got it sticky again then i quickly BUT carefully placed the new screen on applied a little bit pressure and help it for about 2 mins let go and BAM!!!! stuck on to the phone...im sure you can use new adhesive but mind my cheapness to not spend that much money...lol.....
9.now its time to connect all the ribbons back on screw the 2 screws holding the motherboard....snap back the screen onto the bezel.....screw back on the 9 screws insert your sim and sd cards power that bad boy up and hope for the best.....
so like i said before i have no prior knowledge on taking this phone apart... i have changed one other phone screen and that was an iphone but if you have done that before you know thats easy as pie...i really really hope i helped someone out there...i left my iphone to this phone and i am in love with it i compared it to an iphone and the iphone looks like a play phone my son would play with....so a crack on this beauty is a no-no.... so if your up to it buy a new glass about 15 bucks including shipping on amazon... razor blade a blow dryer and about 5 playing cards and patience and you have a new screen.....now if you live in arizona and are close or whilling to drive to my town of queen creek i can help you with this and if your screen is super bad and i mean where theres no way of using it because the glass is shattered and have a video camera and are whilling to come to my place to record a how to video i will attempt to repair your phone free of charge i have an extra screen i bought just incase i messed up but pm me and let me know for all others good luck and i hope i helped
i just used the old one
How is it that some people say is nearly impossible to get the LCD and glass separated? I got my glass screen today but u no what sucks? Apparently my wife threw away my stupid adhesive tape. I'm screwed now
Sent from my GT-N8013 using xda app-developers app
I thought it was nearly impossible, because LCD is so fragile. Any slight pressure/bend can ruin the LCD.
Technically, it is possible to separate them, cuz it is just glued together. And OP proved me wrong and everyone else who advised against the idea.
So... why don't you just buy another roll of tape?
I just did mine look took me 3 hours but works. I did scratched up a lol the lcd and overheated a part an oopsie from me but managed to place the screen back using the old adhesive on the sides heated that junk up and now I'm good since this yr I got an upgrade so I can wait lol but for future ppl trying to do this be cautious as to what object you use for the putting apart also I used wd40 to clean out the excessive adhesive

Front glass has been shattered from a not at all nasty fall. Display and touch is absolutely fine. I enquired with one mi service center they don't change the glass alone. They change whole screen, touch and the glass which costs INR 6300. How much does it take get the front glass replaced from a third party shop?
I had just taken off old tempered glass 4 days ago and was waiting to install a new one. And this happens.
I got my front glass replaced yesterday for 950₹ in Hyderabad,India
I finally fixed mine for INR 1050. It's as good as new. For anyone out there, for the love of god DO NOT USE THE COVER THAT CAME WITH THE MOBILE. It gives fall sense of security.

I guess this is from local shops. So was it just the front glass replacement or the whole lcd screen is replaced? How long does it take to do the replacement?
From looking up youtube videos I think it's a lot more work to replace just the glass. It seems to be bonded to the touchscreen so it looks easier to replace them as one unit

About half an hour minimum. Only front glass has been replaced. There are three separate elements viz front glass, touch panel, lcd screen. Change whichever is damaged. If you go to authorised xiaomi service center they will replace everything for about 30% value of the phone, regardless what has damaged.

We can't change it ourselves unless we have those professional ovens and vacuum chambers. Leave it to the experienced people.

Thanks lockhrt999! In my case, I think it is just the glass that is broken. Now if I get that replaced, I think it will be a normal glass and not a gorilla glass. How does the normal glass hold up in daily use?

I think it was scratch resistant. Gorilla glass are overrated. Every damn thing these days is scratch resistant. Get your front glass replaced and install a tempered glass and it'll be better than gorilla glass.

~₹1100 at most mobile repair shops. That's for the glass alone. Upto 1k extra for touch maybe.
An extra bit of info:
1. There is a slight chance that the replacement of glass may damage the display. So keep that in mind, the last time i was there my display was slightly damaged, there was a black line running along the display. Although you will get the chance to check the display before the new glass is applied so make sure to check it before applying new glass. It will cost around Rs. 1000.
2. The replacement glass is just normal glass like the tempered glass. It is scratch resistant to some degree but it is not very strong and will break if drop from a height.
3. The whole folder and assembly will cost somewhere around Rs. 1600. If anyone is asking for more than this then do no fall for them. Because only the certified xiaomi store sells replacement folder (display+touch) that is original, and that is around Rs. 6000. If buying from a third party seller there is 100% guarantee that it will be duplicate and not original.
4. The original screen can have varying issues depending upon the panel installed. On some panels you may get back light bleeding issues, on other panels you may get touch issues. So Rs. 6000 for them is overkill. Similarly the local screen may also have some issues. Some local screen will have issues regarding brightness and color intensity. Some will have touch issues where you will either get resistant touch problem where the touch will sometimes not respond or will require more force to be used, or you will require a custom kernel to be flashed for the touch to even function. So anyways check the panel before installation.
So to cap it all if you do not want to take chances with third party display or touch and want to keep original then you can get the glass replaced but there might be slight chance that the display may be damaged. In that case always check the display before applying new glass. Or you can just get everything new but then again that will be local and not original, so remember do not pay more than Rs. 1600 for replacement screen. Seriously paying more than that on screen replacement for this phone is a joke as even the original screen have a ton of issues.
I hope this will help someone out there.
Have a good day.

probably a broken touch and i believe it can be fixed. but its better to get a new display altogether if the touch and display are combined. After market touch are not that good, and front glass removal have a slight change of damaging the display.
