Really, b/c my pre-order from Amazon still says Jan. 9th, like it always has since I ordered it on 11/22. Web chat rep. Told me it would ship tomorrow (the 12th)... yeah, I know, sure dude. Guess time will tell though.

Look, 6-9th of Jan isn't that bad considering the multiple rumors floating around. Honestly? Here in Canada I would GLAD if this thing showed up at my doorstep for the first week of January.
Plus, if you're in the states the last thing you'd wanna do is order from Canada. Customs are expensive as hell, especially for something this expensive.
You can always throw in an extra pre-order somewhere else, but don't forget that this is pretty late in the pre-order game. These things have been up since the 22nd of November for the most part. Chances are most retailers are going to be backed up for a while, let alone have these available in-store for Joe Shmo to buy as an impulse purchase.

Take what you can get. Again, with the rumors going around about the thing being delayed, who knows if the 19th is a valid date anymore. Plus, Amazon could be giving you a placeholder date.
At this point most retailers are either sold out or backed up with pre-order stock, so good luck. Personally, I'd stick with what you have.

From what I've heard and talked to people at Best Buy, they won't even be in stores until after the New Year. I pre-ordered because I've been burned in the past thinking that they'd have them in store on release day and so far that has never happened.

theres a best buy thread that says that only the grey ones won't be in until after new year.
the guy i talked to at future shop said he would probably have some in store.
edit: yea best buy wont have **** in store for awhile.

Oh and NO 64GB IN STORES! Last I checked they were only available from a few online retailers, which totally sucks. Oh and waking up early to go pick it up to save shipping costs is a pretty good deal. If you want a 32GB, stores are the way to go.

the main advantage to preordering is to ensure you have one at release, going by asus' track record for the OG transformer, not getting one of the initial shipment could mean you're going to have to do a lot of hunting and waiting to get a hold of one.
although, gamestop might be your best bet to picking one up at launch.

i live in canada and i don't have an gamestop anywhere close to me, i do have an EB games tho.
I'm wondering if i ordered one online, could i cancel it if i was able to find one in stores? and what i heard about the last asus, was that they had some in stores they just went out of stock right away, am i right?

Well, just about 5 minutes ago, J&R called me and told me that the 64 GB (Gray) will not be shipped out until January 2012 due to Asus suspending the shipment.
How is it that I keep reading on here that Gamestop would have it available on December 19 ? Why is it that Asus suspend the Prime on some store and not on others? Strange.

Given that Gamestop is listed as an official preorder destination on Asus' website, and J&R is not, I don't find this all that surprising. There is almost certainly an extra middleman distributor supplying stores like J&R, Adorama, and some of the other sites folks have found to order one, but Asus' commitment is to their official preorder outlets, and making sure they have enough stock to fulfill their preorders.
I haven't received a call from J&R yet, but I figure I will. When did you order yours Earthbrain?
This seems to be the trend. Newegg still seems to be on track, as is gamestop. ASUS is funneling the supply into a more focused retail base, and seems to staying true to their main channel partners.
Certainly no doubt at this point that there is a huge shortage of this thing...what concerns me is that there was such a huge initial preorder allocation, and it isn't that they are running out of preorder slots, it's that the stock just isn't appearing in the supply chain...which in the industry usually means a manufacturing issue.
That is of course unless ASUS just grossly underestimated the demand.

I will still keep my Amazon order since I have not received the cancellation notification yet. I ordered mine from Amazon on November 22.

Crap. I ordered mine on Sunday, and I got the 32GB flavor which you would think would be in even shorter supply. I guess I'll call them today.
So weird that it seems like my Gamestop preorder is going to be the one that holds up at this point.
I placed my order a while ago and got the "backordered" email, but that was explained to me that they must send it if the unit isn't available or a special pre-order. I was told it's still on target for the 15th as they hadn't received new info.

I'm not sure this forum and those placing pre-orders is a good indicator for demand. The technophiles here may only represent a tiny percentage of the population. I think we'll find out when they hit Amazon or Newegg if they remain in stock.

I'm skeptical of the huge demand as well. I live in a small twin city situation with about 200,000 people within 2 towns 20 miles apart. Between the two Gamestops in my area that sell tablets (there are 3 or 4 GS's per town) there have only been two preorders. Total. Me and one other guy. I will be interested to see the initial sales numbers on this device. I think overall, to the general public, Android tablets have a bad(cheap) name. At the GS in the town neighboring mine the manager said they are about to quit carrying tablets all together due to low demand.
Don't get me wrong though. I think this tablet should be creating some demand and likely will once more normal people see it. I have just not been convinced of it's huge preorder demand as of yet.

They don't really seem to know and in fact got their colors wrong on initial pre-orders. Anyway, they claim they are a big retailer and that's true so they expect first availability. I think it is encouraging that they were told a date by Asus for their in stock date.

When my order got canceled on amazon, same day as everyone and I ordered on the 22nd also, I came and order at JR that evening using google checkout. They still haven't called me saying they've canceled. Any chance I'm going to get a 32gb champagne gold? Should I call them and check the date? I don't have much faith in this order.
Yesterday, I put in a preorder at a gamestop location. They say that they are one of the location receiving the prime and I was the first one to preorder at that location. They said that they didn't have any in stock yesterday but expecting to arrive before 19th. I think they only have the 32gb grey. I'll settle for that if I have to. Would like to get what I wanted from JR to avoid tax also, but not getting a good feeling. I've got so many stuff canceled on me this holiday I'm getting pissed.

absolutely... as a matter of fact, no one knows about the TP outside the usual geek crowds... i mean, there are no advertisements for the damn thing, so what do you expect, right? haha... contrary to that fact, there are all these shortages and some whack shipment schedules... some sketchy sh!t, that's for sure...

I originally pre-ordered on Sunday the 4th, but it sounds like they won't get any stock until the new year, no matter when you got your order in.

I just got off the phone with J&R, and she told me they expect a shipment around December 15th. I ordered a 32GB Grey on Friday the 2nd.
I wonder if the person I spoke with is misinformed? Or perhaps my order will be fulfilled by an earlier shipment than yours would have been? Now I'm a little worried, haha...

If it's important to you, I would hedge my bets and get in the car. The guy I spoke with made it sound as if the Primes in general wouldn't show up until the new year, not that my Prime wouldn't show up until then.
Can't hurt to hang on to your preorder, but I don't think you should count on it at this point.

I really think Asus is doing some quiet back tracking and recalling a lot of these tablets that was sent to US.
This would explain why the local Best Buy's in my area were quite confident that they're shipment was going to be here by the 19th and soon changed their tune to that they didn't know how soon they would get them and that they were suppose to get them earlier but Asus pulled their shipment and they've pulled their new shipment.
I really think that story from Canada about the faulty Primes were true and Asus is being super hush about it with in regards to the US.
This is why there have been so few sold here following the launch.

I assume they figure early adopters wouldn't give a crap. Which they rarely do. I'm just glad we're going to get a next rev tablet. Maybe we'll see an improvement. Maybe they'll carve a hole out of that aluminum slab to fit a proper antenna.

OK guys, amazon messed us up big time. So what I suggest we all do is, wait for them to credit us the 10 dollar they promised and then cancel any orders you have with them and go to another place.
I mean I got my prime from gamestop last night, but still have 2 on preorder from amazon. They got the nerve to send us an email and say we can preorder again and we waited til midnight to do it, and we got the same date as people ordering much later. That's so not right. You'd think they would have it sooner. So by friday you all should be getting the 10 dollar amazon promised. If not call them and as soon as you get it. Drop the preorder.

Curious to know, were you planning on buying 2 preorders from Amazon or were you going to cancel one or both so they would have to change their inventory allotment again for distribution of preorders? (hint about wherein lies at least part of the problem)

I originally posted because of what BB just anounced this evening and I was thinking about it in comparison to Amazon letting people know earlier than 3 days before Christmas. Amazon also said that it was an accident... I'm not on either side here as I already know I'm probably not getting one til next year but I want correct things being argued over. To answer your number 2 question. I order 2, but intend on only keeping one, whichever was available first. At that point I also rushed to preorder at other sites because I had only originaly ordered one from amazon. Seeing as how amazon canceled my order and seeing how there is delays everywhere, I decited to order from several different places hoping that I would get one of them. You see, if Amazon would keep my ONE order, I would not have to run all over the place ordering everywhere else, including reordering 2 from amazon hoping to get one. It turns out that I did get one from gamestop, which now will force me to cancel both amazon orders. You think I like buying from gamestop? I hate them, and I also hate paing taxes. I could have saved by buying from amazon, which I want to, but they have failed me and they failed again on the second preorder sending me back to the end of the line.

todays the 23, the stores are open in 45 mins! Do you think i will be getting my prime today? If i call my local futureshop, staples and best buy, and they have none in stalk, is there any other way to get one?

Considering today is Friday, tomorrow is the last day of possible deliveries before Christmas. Even if there were any available online, which there aren't, it is extremely unlikely you would get one delivered by tomorrow even with overnight shipping.There are a few to none available for sale from the stores as everyone is scrambling to fill pre-orders.
In short, you're probably out of luck friend, unless by some miracle you manage to find one from a B&M store without a pre-order (unlikely).

Lemme know if you find anything... then there's always Kijiji or Craigslist. I've seen some for 750$. 200$ more than what I would be paying? Screw that.

May be worth calling some smaller computer places. Sounds like some people on here have found ones at some smaller stores.
You're not going to find them at any of the major retailers. Both Future Shop and Best Buy have stated that they will fill their pre-orders first before any make it onto the store shelves....and no one seems to have received a pre-order from them yet. The only people seeming to have success are pre-orders from other retailers or stumbling upon them at much smaller retailers. Good luck.....you're going to need it....haha
Did it launch in Canada? Thought it got delayed...

i called my future shop and some of the people there are also waiting for there very own asus and they said they should be getting some in store before or at the same time the preorders go out.
I checked the Canadian thread and i was pointed towards FS and BB. I would love to maybe get some inside tips as to where else should be getting some in stock at anytime. Hell if theres some in stock right now, ill drop trow.
When I pre-ordered from NCIX on the 23rd, the sales rep told me they were getting stock in the first week of January. I cancelled it because I have one from BB.

for the Prime right now as far as Best Buy goes, it's a online only product. There haven't been enough tablets shipped from ASUS yet for them to fill the brick and mortar stores with them.
Yep ridiculous. Sony or Samsung would never make a launch as tacky as this but this is ASUS.
I get mines Tuesday, I really hope I'm not disappointed.
