Hi there,
Forgive me if this has already been asked. Anyone know of a simple and safe way of getting S-Off on the Hero? Mine is happily rooted, running Ele 3.6, etc. with Amon Ra recovery, but it's still in S-On state.
Thanks in advance!
Searching for this also
I remember getting the S-OFF SPL from Modaco.
I am not sure if this is the best version, but this is the link I found after some quick searching.
android.modaco.com/topic/296389-24nov-unlocked-spl-for-gsm-hero/
Hi guys,
Sorry to bring up this old topic, but I can't get my Hero to be S-Off.
I've downloaded the SPL at the last post, and installed it in Recovery mode, but the changes won't apply.
Can you give me a help?
Thanks
I want to know how to do this too. I downloaded HTC's method but it only works with stock firmware which i dont have
can you use unrevoked? i know for my cdma hero and evo 4g unrevoked was the method (well, revolutionary which is based off of unrevoked for evo)
edit: i found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1471460
read everything 100x through if you plan to try this, and by god if your not sure or have any fear of a possibly bricked phone, THEN DO NOT DO THIS! lol
thats just what i found through search, there may be other methods.
is s-on limiting anything that you need to do with your phone?

Hi,
I think that unrevoked doesn't work on GSM Hero.

Thanks for the link, but I've tried that, and it doesn't work, my Hero was already rooted and had Recovery installed, so I've jumped to the last part, and when I choose to install the zip from sd, it says it was installed, but when I reboot it doesn't change anything :S

You might just end up with the retail price of a Thunderbolt on your next bill. Really tho they will be able to take one look and see you are running leaked software.
BTW the pink "Locked" at the top of hboot has to do with having HTC's official unlock capabilities built in. You can still root that build easily.

Well I don't know of any root method where the first thing you do is flash an hboot so..... Also the only way I know of for sure to root that build is with Revolutionary but I don't think there is a mac version. Plus it makes it somewhat hard to get back to stock when you use Revolutionary.

***LOCKED*** On Bootloader
Hello All,
First of all thanks for the awesome easy guide !!
This is the first time I am rooting my HTC Tbolt and have had an issue to start with.
Used the instructions in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401959
After I download the 2.11.605.5 downgrade zip, I rename it, put in on the SD Card and go to HBOOT and it installs the downgrade just fine.
But at the end of this process, when I try to get the MR4 Radio onto the SD Card and install it, it simply does not happen. HBoot checks for the file, finds it, but nothing happens. I have renamed in properly and followed instructions to the dot.
I also noticed a ***LOCKED*** right on top of the screen and I think this could be an issue.
Can I go ahead and proceed with the Revolutionary Root Technique ? Would this be possible at this point ?
Is there anyway I can get Flash the MR4 Radio before I actually root ?
Also, would I be able to flash the MR4 Radio onto my device after Rooting ?
Any help is much appreciated !
Thanks in advance !
Cheers !

You could also use the LiveCD from this thread. It is supposed to make it really easy.

you could download linux to have it dual boot.. when you turn on the computer, it gives u the option to either boot into windows or linux.. and it works like a charm...
and even still, how did u brick it?

Are you able to boot into bootloader? If so, boot into bootloader and connect to your computer. You can then push a recovery using adb (I like 4ext, see my signature).
I've searched the internet to find out the this hboot 1.5 issue is, and can't find squat. So can someone tell me what problem is there with hboot 1.5 and how to tell if it applies to me, or at least point me in the right direction. Also please note, I have already managed to root my HTC evo 3d with fastboot, and have the revolutionairy recovery but I haven't flashed any new roms yet and I won't until I find out what hboot is.
Edit: Figures after I post I find some info, okay So I know now I have hboot 1.5 and s-on, however the guide I followed said s-on doesn't matter. any thoughts?
Edit: I have revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4 and I used this to flash super user in the guide, and I can back up my rom and mount things etc.

From everything I've read, s-on does not play well with the ics roms. I recommend you get s-off by downgrading to 1.4 or using the wire trick.

first you unlock your bootloader using HTC's method for , next youll want to flash the recovery to a new verson and then boot into it and load your phone as a usb device and then copy over the super user zip and run it...;reboot then youre rootedafter that you look up Unknownforce's method to dpwngrade and obtain s-off or you can do the new "wire trick"

I have not tried that method but i found this method to work very well..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563342
Let me be totally honest the easiest way to hboot s off is to perform the wiretrick it is the easiest fastest way to do it.... its all about the wire timing and having a root on your phone with a pc with the program and adb and fastboot drivers
you can obtain the adb and fastboot drivers by searching rootevo3dnew.zip via google and dll that once done go into the folder or zip file and obtain A file Called HTC Driver.exe click it and install after that use jeuponut bears wiretrick
For me, its easier to use boot cd or boot flashdisk...
I also a new user of shooter, my phone just arrived 36 hours ago but I'm success downgrade to 1.4 hboot, S-off,rooted,custom recovery, and custom ROM..

If you follow the directions in the stickies in the development forum, you will be fine. I bricked mine following their directions and had no issues. Either way (using the wire trick or bricking), you will bee so glad you are s-off.

The brick is only a temp-brick. Think of it more as putting it into a "recovery mode" in which you're recovering to a lower hboot. It's simple enough to do once you get it into that mode. Plus you don't have to use HTC Unlock and hand over your warranty to HTC.

i just followed this link to unlock:
http://androidforums.com/evo-3d-all...shing-evo-3d-roms-kernels-using-fastboot.html
then to downgrade and s-off:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1471246
as iam new to this when i tried it... i am really nervous of bricking my phone... but eventually... i succeeded after several tries of doing the same thing over and over again..... and its pretty exiting....you try it...you'll be fine
Dont use htcdev for these reasons:
1.Warranty void aka re-locked
2. Its a lot of mess
3.You need to flash the boot.img once you flash a new rom again.

With S-ON, you can still do most things, you are just restricted with what you can flash in recovery (radios, kernels, etc). Unfortunately, most roms do not have working sprint hotspot, but wifi tether works just as well. I suggest finding a rom you like and flashing it, as long as you already have a custom recovery installed. Just let me know if you need further clarification on anything and i will elaborate.
Since you're soft rooted go ahead and download goo manager from the android market. From there you can download TWRP Recovery and have goo manager install for you. Simple... If you want S-OFF go here to use LazyPanda S-OFF method (prerequisites are required). Alternatively you can go here for all your EVO 4G LTE resource needs
Cheers

HTC dev unlocked is not a soft root.
Its not S-OFF, but its NOT a soft root.
htckron - You cannot get S-OFF with the 1.15 bootloader. I'm not sure why that was suggested to you.

This is the guide I used from back when I was first learning:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
Hey All. I Did my first flash ever with my Evo3d and the Viper Rom way back when it first came out. With the Rev tool to get unlock and S off. Now Ive had to have my phone replaced due to a bad digitizer and id like some ICS fun. But the Phone is now Hboot 1.50. Ive had Ramjet explain some stuff but still having some confusion. I did the HTC unlock and the phone is unlocked. I now need to install/flash 4EXT recovery. I assume this is something I need to flash to the bootloader/Fastboot Vs just a download (which I did get the paid for app.) Ive been r4eading some of the stuff here and there. But still a little lost. Then I guess I need to root? then I can S off? Sorry for the dumb questions and being noob about this. Just wanting to learn/relearn the right ways. I know once I see it I can handle it just fine. Thanks for the help.

I'm actually on a sprint based cdma phone.
Have you looked at the HTC Unlock Guide (also in my signature)? Post 4 I think covers flashing the recovery & SU correctly.
- once unlocked, use fastboot commands to push the the recovery.img to the phone, boot to recovery and flash SU. Reboot.= Htc Unlocked stock rooted rom. (Note: there is also a link to the hboot differences thread you should read after getting s-Off).
Then you can use Jbear to get S-Off for Gingerbread/2.17 base.
MeanRom 2.6
Thanks mpgrimm
Id really like to end up with ICS is the direction im heading but im sure that will help. Thanks!! May have some further questions. Hope thats all right?
Sure thing. I haven't done the Jbear Wire Trick (I did the hboot 1.50 downgrade) but I can point you where to go.
