Honeycomb performance? - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Can anyone give any feedback on the performance of the Honeycomb update (official). I'm not interested in custom roms, unless they are close to stock.
I had the original Xoom and Honeycomb ran like crap on it. It was laggy and generally performed poorly. This, after two wipes. When the official update does come out, I'm debating staying on Gingerbread simply because it runs well. Considering that the Xoom had a dual-core processor, I'm wondering if performance will be even worse on the Flyer. Although it would be bad even if it was "as good" as it was on the Xoom.

this will come down to opinion. Having ran both I choose honeycomb. There is not real noticeable speed increase or dectease. No additional lag or anything I see. You lose the use of your hard buttons and have a honeycomb bar on the bottom of the screen. This can be removed if rooted using honeybar, but I would only do this if watching video and or playing video games. Honeycomb is better suited for tablets in my opinion. There are apps that make better use of the device, the homescreens are better configured due to widget sizing.
Coming from a phone with gingerbread when I got my Flyer I felt like, this is nice but it is just a large phone. Honeycomb makes it feel like a different device. If you need to make calls, or can not deal with the screen being shrunk a little, stick with gingerbread.
All roms out there for honeycomb are basically stock, or stock slightly tweaked under the hood. They all look exactly like stock less maybe a battery mod on one rom

Thanks, dude! I actually don't mind the Gingerbread version on the Flyer because HTC made so many tablet-like optimizations to it. I have seen that the pen is much more utilized in the Honeycomb version, which is a plus. My main concern was performance. My experience with the Xoom left a bad taste in my mouth. I had horrible memory leak issues, crashing, and generally bad performance. Gingerbread runs well, so I don't want to go back down that road.

Flyer was/is my first honeycomb device and I thought hc would be much buggier. It's pretty solid, so I tend to believe htc did a good job polishing it.

Been on it for 2 days.
Hc makes much better use of the pen and tablet optimized gapps are a huge plus.
I haven't noticed any downside to making the jump so far. Some have reported wifi problems, but I haven't experienced that.

I loaded HC on my dad's Flyer and I can say that flash video performs much better on HC than it does on my GB View.
The Flyer can stream 720p from youtube and play Amazon prime video just fine but my GB View is limited to 480p from youtube and struggles with SD video from Amazon prime.

Subjectively, I find HC MUCH smoother and more pleasant to use than GB - the screen transitions are just silky smooth here, where they were notchy in GB. There are more apps I can use now, but some (e.g. Dolphin Browser, My Country) don't work anymore.
You do get a feeling that the bar is better suited for larger screens, and that you should be able to hide it. But I can sure live with it.

Haven't noticed any difference in raw speed, but the honeycomb os has features that make it easier to use and therefore faster to perform functions. Eg more shortcuts or widgets per screen, better gmail app, great task manager for easy multi tasking, and many more

[Q]Is this the right tablet for me?

Currently, I have the iPad 2. I do, however, miss android and its customizable aspect. So I was offered by someone to swap my iPad 2 for his Galaxy Tab 10.1
Before swapping, I did went to the nearest Bestbuy to see what the hype was all about. I am pretty disappointed with the browser and the onscreen keyboard. Typing was a pain, and in conjunction with Google's autocomplete feature, it was a nightmare.
By running Quadrant Standard twice, I got scores ranging from 1550-1700. Which was pretty horrid for a dual core processor. I noticed that the fps on each test (2d-3d) range from 15fps-30fps. I have the Samsung Fascinate as my smartphone, and it goes up to 56fps during the graphic tests.
The model that I played around with was not running TouchWiz or maybe it is not updated.
I am mostly concerned on how the device runs after third-party launchers, root, themes, etc. are installed.
Is the interface still sluggish? is the onscreen keyboard still horrid?
I'm currently running stock Touchwiz and yeah it has its glitches, but it's not horrid. I also own the iPad 2 and it has its glitches once in a while too! I like both devices! I could do more on my GTab of course, but I get more smoothness on my iPad 2. They each have pros and cons! Lol
If you don't like the stock keyboard on the GTab you can always change it! I like to use Swiftkey on mine.
Quadrant doesn't get along with stock HC 3.1, so the score is pretty meaningless. On literally every other rom (HC 3.0, TouchWiz etc) normal Quadrant scores should be in the mid 2k's.
The typing lag and wonky cursor that was a problem when typing in web forms has been fixed in the TouchWiz update.
While I've seen some people complain about lag with the launcher, I've never experienced it myself. Regardless, there are optimized launchers available if you flash a deodexed TW rom, and launchers like ADW also work fine on the tablet.
Thanks for the response guys.
I wish I can have both. Since playing around with it from a display model was really pointless since I can't do much about it in regards to flashing rom/updates/etc.
If you were on my shoes, trade or not to trade.
Hey, if you miss customization, then go for the tab, I say. When I used the ipad1 before, staring at those generic iOS homescreen with its sterile grid, indistinguishable icons, horrid folders, lack of widgets was pretty depressing, to me at least.
Yes, you'll run into some glitches. But custom kernels, roms, apps can remedy many of them, while Honeycomb and Touchwiz has already been getting better over time. That GT10.1 seems to have attracted some awesome devs is a plus too.
Yes, you may miss some favorite apps. But most likely there will be similar ones for android, or they will some make there appearance as tablets gain market share. There are yet no ipad-only killer apps that make it too much of a pain to cross over to the tab.
And on top of having your very own customized tab, with docks, apps, widgets individualized and optimized for your own self, imho, the tab even outshines the ipad in terms of
Better for watching or streaming movies (16:9 ratio, play more codex, a gorgeous screen),
Better web-browsing (flash of course, as well as higher pixel count to take in the whole website),
and arguably better e-reading (TW ebook app is quite versatile and easy on the eye, and I enjoy the landscape two-page mode reading which utilizes the widescreen)
as well as better sound (you can get voodoo control with pershoots kernel and bluetooth is amazing)
All which I think are the mainstays of a tablet experience.
Maybe note taking is another, in which the HTC Flyer may be better, but then with swype or thumbkeyboard, or an optional bluetooth keyboard, note taking is at least just as good as the ipad2.
And you won't be sacrificing the sleek form factor (GT10.1 is lighter and thinner, marginally, than ipad2) as you would have to if you went for a different android tab (at least until the Sony S1 comes out, which we'll have to see to be sure).
So, that's my take on why if I was in your shoes, I'd go for the Galaxy Tab 10.1
I should add, to me, whereas the ipad was mainly a portrait mode experience, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is mainly a landscape mode experience. Should consider and be comfortable of that too - especially in terms of customizing your tablet homescreens. It's one thing that makes it quite different and more exciting than customizing a smartphone.

As with any android vs apple comparison, I think it kind of comes down to how much you like tweaking and customizing, while having to occasionally find workarounds and deal with a still developing ecosystem. If you'd rather not bother with any of that then stick with the iPad.
GTab 10.1 with Honeycomb has a lot of potential. I will probably keep my iPad 2 and snag one off office depot with a 100$ coupon for any tablet.
I've decided to keep the iPad 2 due to the fact that, unfortunately, bought a ton of productivity apps from the app store already. Furthermore, by keeping it and getting GTab 10.1, I can enjoy both worlds. Just need to feed the hungry android inside me.
Love android os. Hope that ice cream sandwich is as tasty as it looks.
Thanks a lot guys for the info. Really helped me decide wether I should get one or not.
I have both. Bought the Galaxy Tab and got the iPad 2 through my school. One thing the iPad has going for itself is that it's a really smooth experience. What it does, it does well. Unfortunately, that's all it does though. There's just nothing else to do with it besides running apps and browsing the internet. If you need something to satisfy your inner geek I would definitely go with the Tab.
From your post I take that you already know all this and are mainly wondering how the Tab holds up performance wise. It's great! I'm running the latest Starburst with pershoots kernel overclocked to 1.4 and the sucker flies. It beats the iPad on almost every webpage rendering test I've put the two to. Google maps is light years ahead of the iPad version and the browsing experience is great since the TouchWiz update.
In the end it's a personal decision. Lets just say that MY iPad is collecting dust on the shelf.

[Q] Honeycomb vs. Gingerbread

Hey, I was wondering why anyone would use GB for the gTablet when HC is also available. I could understand if the tablet ran GB stock because then there would be driver support to consider but since neither is officially supported, why run a phone OS?
I tried both and personally went back to Gingerbread. Biggest reason was that my G-Harmony GB ROM appear quite a bit more responsive and stable than the 3 HC ROMs I tried. The HC UI is a lot nicer but sluggish and the sluggishness annoyed me.
I was wondering if it is because the 1GB is required for good performance in HC. Our beloved GTab only has 512MB
Here comes a curve ball
I have bounced around a lot of ROMs in the past several months. I really had good experiences on all of the GB and HC ROMs I used. But I am now back to Froyo (Calkulin/Clemsyn v5) and don't intend on switching ROMs again until the HC ports mature a bit more (read: hw acceleration).
The interface on HC and GB might be slicker and smoother than Froyo, but Launcher Pro fills a lot of that gap. And performance on Froyo (battery, video, app compatibility) just seems better. This is just a feeling, not from any real testing or side-by-side comparison.
Really, when you get into an app (at least the ones I use commonly - Netflix, Opera Mobile, YouTube, Spotify, Pulse), they look the same no matter what ROM you are on.
Just my $0.02.
Yah, HC has nice eye candy but i might go back to froyo for the performance too.
I tried HC and love the UI but when it came down to it, i didn't buy a tab to sacrafice the cam,(all be it lame), and HD video for eye candy. Hopefully these will be fixed one day soon.
What I don't understand is what is the point of using gingerbread at all anymore? It seems like you would either want a fully working ROM (Froyo) or the prettiest (HC). Gingerbread may have a working camera, but otherwise, can someone enlighten me on why to bother?
I currently run Flashback, but someone else is going to be taking it, and pending they want a camera, I don't understand why they would want Gingerbread over Froyo. Please enlighten!
'Prettiest' is a matter of taste. Just because GB is for phones and HC is for tablets, does not mean all tablet users prefer HC; nor does it necessarily mean that all HC ROMs ported for the gTab are better than all the GB ROMs.
It miht be a matter of habit.
Picture it. Ice Cream Sandwich comes out, and a Rom of it is developed for the Gtablet. You've been using HC for almost 8 months now, and are pretty used to the screens, the app drawer, the "add to home screen" interface, the settings, etc.
When you try Ice Cream Sandwich, it's "nice" but it's not what your used to. You've been using HC for so long that Ice Cream Sandwich just seems "off."
Do you stay on ICS, or switch back to HC becuase it's comfortable.
Before there was HC roms, people were using CM7, et. al. because they were the new fancy thing. They used it for so long that they are just used to it. They try HC, and miss the camera, or the settings, or the app drawer, or something else that makes GB "home."
For a lot of us, including me, we are stuck on Froyo. I tried HC, I liked the way it looked, but at times, the ui was just not what I'm used to. It had nothing to do with the camera, I never use it. It had little to do with hardware acceleration, becuase software encoding on videos works just as well. I went back ot Froyo because it felt better. I'm used to it, I actually missed it.
That's why people still use GB...it's what they are used to, simple as that.

[q] gb vs hc

can anybody tell me major advantages of having honeycomb 3.2 except for better stylus support? (i dont hav a stylus)
beacause reading forums i found out following disadvantages of it....
1. hardware buttons gone (not a big one n its a +ve one saves a little bit of battery)
2. honey bar consumes space on screen (can be a lot annoying while gaming or reading)
3. many apps that people pruchased for GB are not working on HC(particularly games)
so should we upgrade for what benifits? should i stick to GB or i am missing something?
please help if i am wrong anywhere....
Multitasking better
Can fit more widgets and shortcuts on each screen
Better gmail app
Can run honeycomb only apps

I'll throw in my $.02 I guess. I used Honeycomb for about 24 hours. I had an Acer Iconia Tab for a day before I got my View, and to be honest HC was a big part of why I returned it. I'd never used HC before & I went into the experience with an open mind but ended up absolutely hating it. It kept slowing down, the taskbar was annoying(the buttons are too small & easy to miss), I didn't like how it forces you into landscape mode in many apps(I'm a diehard portrait girl), and I just didn't like the new menu structures or really anything about it honestly. I don't get the hype at all, I never once found myself thinking "Wow, this is so much better than gingerbread!" and if Sprint tries to push a HC update to my View I'm gonna decline it.

HC is faster and smoother than GB. The user interfaces are better integrated, not like a clunky big ass phone. The notification bar is far more useful. Everything just looks cleaner . I'd never consider going back to GB.

Even on GB there are applications that will force you to landscape mode. Even if you have your rotation locked. Often this is because it simply works better this way. Mostly I've seen this though, is with games...

It's there and if it's not working in the stock ROM we now have kernel source and can recompile a kernel with that support included.
I heard from some people on the forum saying that HC on view is "sluggish." I am wondering if any early adopters can post their experience with HC on flyer/view.
Thanks

Its smoooooooooooooth like honey, no crumbs like gingerbread. No complaints at all.

no way, it's fantastic...looks good, works perfectly in my opinion
not a big point...but a valid one... that screen still cant move 4 ways.... only two sides available with HC as well....
cant wait to use other app that takes advantage of the pen
In my personal opinion, HC is a slight improvement on GB with regards to the UI but saying that, I've reverted to GB for these reasons....
1, certain apps need to be adjusted for screen use as HC is not optimised for 7" screens. Google earth loses its lookaround and zoom buttons, PocketCloud loses its keyboard/mouse selection bar and BBC iPlayer does not work at all because of the lack of embedded flash.
2, the menu bar is really annoying when playing full screen videos and games. It causes either a modification to the aspect ratio of the image or worse (as in the app cases above) a loss of lower screen functions.
Until the app developers mod their packages (and some may not) and a method of auto-hide real full screen usage is added by HTC, then I'm staying with GB.
I use the pen often for business and manage reasonably well without the extra integration.

I agree with this.
I don't really want to get into aesthetics because it's very subjective, but there were a lot of functional things I liked about GB/Sense that are now gone:
1. full-screen widgets
2. the soft (off-screen) buttons
3. the "menu" button that, when on the home screen, showed some useful shortcuts (like task manager)
4. the permanent shortcuts on the bottom of the screen (obviously conflicts with the new Honeycomb bar)
I was excited for Honeycomb because of its newness but honestly I think the GB implementation on the View was pretty great, actually; it was more suited to the smaller screen. I haven't noticed a difference in performance (it was never an issue) either way.

[POLL]-[FLYER]-[HoneyComb or GingerBread] ?

I know this question had been raised many times, just wanted to get/share a decent statistical view/review about Flyer-HC and Flyer-GB..
The Basic Qurstion Would Be:
Why HoneyComb ?
-Is it faster ?
-Is it more stable ?
-Does it have better application/game compatibility ? <-----Doubt this {Gameloft Stuff/Skyscape/Medical Apps}
-Does it look more eyecandy ? <-----Doubt this
Thanks for sharing your opinion
Speed difference is subjective
Personally I think honeycomb fits a tablet better. The ui is more suitable. If you are not willing to root I can see how some do not like the honeycomb bar. Honeycomb apps make better use of screen.
With LeeDroids tireless work, honeybar or honey hide, and LeeDroids tweaks apk, you get the best of all worlds.

To hell with all of that.
HC is closer to ICS.
And in all seriousness, way to have an unbias poll.
Compatibililty: Every single app that worked on my Flyer with Gingerbread works on my Flyer with Honeycomb. I have yet to find an app that Honecomb broke, and that includes games.
Speed: If anything, Honeycomb feels faster than Gingerbread, but the difference is minimal.
Eye Candy: there's not a huge differnce either way, though my Flyer with Honeycomb still feels fresh to me and feels very polished.
Stability: after the last Gingerbread security update, Sense would frequently crash on me. not so with honeycomb.
Expanded capabilities: The pen now works in all applications. Yeah!
Fixes: Arrow keys now map correctly on a bluetooth keyboard when the Flyer is propped up in landscape mode.
Why HoneyComb ?
-Is it faster...everything works and feels smoother to me
-Is it more stable...was never unstable and still isn't
-Does it have better application/game compatibility? never had had compatibility, still don't
-Does it look more eyecandy? yes, definitely...GB on the flyer made it look like a big ugly phone...HC is a heaps better user experience and makes more sense
I prefer Honeycomb, as it offers a better tablet experience than Gingerbread, which is a phone based interface.
Why HoneyComb ?
@jaguaralani maybe it would be better if you ask the reason they used HC instead of GB on Flyer or vise versa.
Main Reason : added pen functionality! SketchBook! lately start using it on Quill. awesome experience.
Application compatibility : HC - i can use Whatsapp Messenger, which is not possible on stock GB.
what about battery life comparism? i haven't notice on GB, but on Lee's HC ROM it stay around 5~6 hours with wifi + 3G and moderate usage.
It really boils down to GB is a phone OS, and HC is a Tab OS. Aside from app compatibility (which falls on app devs, not the OS itself) I vote HC hands down. For all functionality & looks.

Now I wish the walls could be torn down between Operating systems and treat them as apps running on a much more capable device so we could choose what we would like to run.

I was running Honeycomb since the day the OTA came to the UK (so a few months now), but last weekend I decided I'd had enough and downgraded. Though it was a slightly harrowing experience, I'm very glad I did...
I very much dislike the updates that have been made to the Sense apps in honeycomb. Having text on each button rather than just the icon looks ugly on such a small screen and swallows precious real-estate. The browser is almost unusable in landscape mode because of this, and there's no option to hide the toolbar!
Lack of a real full-screen mode in Honeycomb really hurts the Flyer imo. 1024x600 is already quite a narrow aspect ratio and isn't particularly high-res. To reduce the vertical resolution by 32 pixels (I think that's the size of the shortcut bar), with no way of opting out is too annoying. It really badly affects games and video watching.
Though the frame-rate on the launcher is generally a bit better in Honeycomb, it reloaded a lot more often and would often pause for noticeable periods - more so than the launcher in Gingerbread. I also don't like how the Sense widgets have shrunk - the big full-screen widgets are one of the things I really like on the Flyer.
So all in all, playing games, browsing and watching videos are all worse for me on Honeycomb. Given these are the three things I do on the Flyer the most, I have to say it's Gingerbread for me... I miss some of the updated tablet apps and the improved performance (in some scenarios at least), but it doesn't outweigh all that's wrong with it either.
I really hope if/when ICS comes out, that they revert to the phone-style layout with hardware keys and a smaller, drag-down panel. It'd be nice if they could enable that interface with tablet apps, but I'd pick a big android phone over a tiny android tablet any day.
It really comes down to whether you like a tablet experience or a big phone. No offense to GB lovers but go play with the EVO 3D and then the Flyer running GB, similar feel.

All I know is that I wish I never accepted the OTA Honeycomb update. My Flyer has been slow and buggy every since. Browser crashes a lot, flash hangs. Never used to happen on Gingerbread. Issues persist, even with custom ROMs. Can't even downgrade, due to newer HBOOT that is unsupported by revolutionary. I'm just hoping ICS clears things up.

your issues are not common and to me would indicate an issue other than HC. and I believe if your Hnoot is supported by HTC Dev Unlock you should be able to roll back
FWIW, i rooted and installed the HC OTA on my View yesterday, adn i love it 10x more..to the poster who said GB makes it seem like a big ugly phone, you're so right. the screen is NOWHERE near as nice as my rezound, and it literally just seemed like a giant rezound..so i put HC on it, and damn, everything just looks so much cooler! i love the tablet UI much more.
for that LeeDroid tweaks, is that only on the flyer, or can i use that stuff on my View too?
Put HC on it last night and ended up playing with it for 3 hours after and I am paying for that now! Sooo tired.
Anyway, it is definitely a different experience then GB and makes it feel a lot different then my phone. Sense widgets are a little weird and the use of screen real estate for the launcher is questionable but I like it better right now. Need more time to play though.
The big question is will the wife like it. It is mainly her tablet and she hates change! I am expecting a lot of screaming to come out of her today of how much she hates it and I need to put GB back because she doesn't know how to do anything on HC. Will give you the follow-up report. She hasn't even seen it yet
Neither...
Both have their advantages and both have their disadvantages.
Overall, I think I prefer Honeycomb on my View. I am on stock. I like being able to use the pen more. I like the way the widgets work on the homescreens. The bottom bar mostly doesn't bother me, as I think more apps will build in support for dimming it. Since ther used to be a notification bar on top, I don't think the loss of screen real estate is that big of a deal.
Some issues I have had are that I seem to get more system force closes, but not enough to be bothersome. The stock browser crashes a lot, but I use Dolphin now, so no big deal. The keyboard is sometimes glitchy when editing text.
My other family members have elected to stay on GB because they like the capacitive buttons and don't care as much about being able to use the pen.
HC gives a more natural UI experience when used in landscape mode, with the bar at the bottom. Easier to reach, in a more natural way, in my opinion.
I've rooted GB to have phone function. Obviously GB for me since HC cannot have phone function.
Also, as previous HC user, I find HC not stable. Probably its stable now. But I'm not willing to take the risk and lose my phone function.
Phone has already been added by LeeDroid in his latest honeycomb Rom.

[Q] [should be sticky] GB or HC--What are the pro's and cons

The flyer is great little tab with a razor tight res screen and plenty fast enough single core CPU.
But its also semi orphaned since its too old for HTC to be expected to devote resources to an ICS upgrade.
So its kind of weird where all the ROM Development has switched to Android 3.0 which the consensus says runs so unsatisfactorilly on a Flyer that devs have released downgrades back to Android 2.3.x
What a mess. Do the custom 3.0 ROMs fix the probs? If so why all the down grades.
Apologies if this was dealt with somewhere but I searched, a link to same much appreciated
I would disagree that honeycomb is a mess but yes that opinion has been started by others. Performance appears to be a matter of opinion round these parts. If you really don't like honeycomb it is unlikely that any of the roms will make you happy
Flyer
For me i like HC. Its performance was always good on mine Flyer. I used Leedroid 4.3 ROM. Pen full suport. nice Sense 3.0. Tablet look, a lot more nice widget suported. However, bluetooth gsm calls r not suported. I am using flyer as phone as well so this was an isue for me. Not for ppl with wifi flers thow.
So atm downgraded on GB. BT calls works great. Pen ofc only suported in note. Look is more as a phone and sense isnt as nice as in HC. Less apps suported. Performance might be slightlly better but nothing of worth puting as pro or contra.
ATM w8ing on and keeping x fingers for ICS developers to solve all the starting isues.
I never bothered with HoneyComb. I saw that there was less app support in HC (for example no HBO Go, and no MaxGo) and I decided to at least wait until app support appeared (thus far it has not).
I probably won't bother with custom ROMS, as I'm very picky and have never found a custom ROM on any previous device of mine that didn't have a few bugs or hiccups.
For honeycomb, Senseless 4.0 is fast as hell. Chaos's AOKP ICS rom is even faster, but its in its early stages ATM, so be prepared for bugs. If your willing to deal with that, its a great rom!
Honestly, I don't like Gb to be used in the Flyer (I don't like to see my tablet like a "Monster Phone"). Hc custom rom like Leedroid and Senseless are fast, but not so smooth like Chaos's rom. If the Flyer is Your primary device I think Hc must be the solution, otherwise You can contribute to Ics development and debugging

I would disagree that honeycomb is a mess but yes that opinion has been started by others. Performance appears to be a matter of opinion round these parts. If you really don't like honeycomb it is unlikely that any of the roms will make you happy

+1 to all this. It works fine for me, and I'm happy with it. I'll upgrade to ICS if we get a full working release but if we don't I won't cry. Try them all it's safe, and decide which one works best for you.

+1 to both, the HC ROMS work great as long as they are modified correctly, for example MY ROM works with a few init.d Scripts and a couple of RAM scripts and as far as i can tell it runs like a dream, at least not many bugs have been brought to my attention.
My personal opinion of GB ist that it makes the TAB look like a GIANT PHONE, and that just annoys me because it is not a giant phone its a TABLET
Anyway RANT OVER and POINT MADE
I can honestly say I'm done with gingerbread on my flyer now. It ran pretty solid but I hated the big phone feel. Using the Sense launcher and apps helped, but it didn't help the gingerbread appearance of the google apps like youtube, gmail, google search, gvoice, Gtalk, etc.
Being on stock honeycomb isn't terrible depending on what you use it for, but it is noticeably slower than gingerbread. And if you want to play graphic intensive games like shadowgun, modern combat, etc forget it on stock honeycomb. They'll run, and I guess they are technically playable but they lag and hit frame rate slowdowns constantly.
But as ioiwillioi said, honeycomb can be pretty solid with the right amount of tweaking and he's done just that. His roms are every bit as quick if not quicker than the gingerbread roms we have. Overall honeycomb is the better OS for the tablet, it just has the tablet feel. You feel more like your running an android powered computer, not a gigantic phone. Gingerbread and earlier versions of android were never meant to run on tablets.
Why I like the Gingerbread interface
Why I like the Gingerbread interface
I like the original HTC Sense interface
I like the additional connectivity of this device as a desk speakerphone via Google Voice (no phone plan needed!)
The device hardware was built for Gingerbread, not Honeycomb.
Honeycomb didn't bring any significant new usefulness to the device.
Unlike the upgrade from Eclair to Froyo, this upgrade didn't open the door for flash support or any other key technology breakthrough (for most people).
I'd compare it to an upgrade from Windows XP to Vista, or Windows 98 to ME. Most people will prefer the former option.
