I'm locked stocked and unrooted, I used to use the temproot for things like removing bloatware and I was just about change the bootanimation when I kept trying and trying to gain temporary root access....no go....

Why is this development related????
Moving.
So just break the warranty and unlock your bootloader, you won't regret it

haha not yet, i'm quite happy with my phone right now...i'm using adw ex...with widgetlocket..and i actually like the other parts of sense that come with the phone....no need at this time really, i guess boot animation has to wait a year or so!!! until the warranty is up of we find a way to temp root again, or even perm root without unlocking bootloader.

I'm looking to root my phone later. Is it safe to apply the OTA update that they will push us to do on the 23rd?
Do not accept OTAs.
Always. No exceptions.
Live by this rule and you will have the best chance at getting root and no chance of losing. Period.

I would always wait to see if the dev's post that its safe to. I updated my EVo when it first came out and never could get root after that. Now that i have the EVO3d and root. I never updated untill i got the update from a dev.
So i would say no.
+ 10000! The hboot 1.50 that comes with the OTA closes the exploit that was used to gain root.
Why not root now and just flash the stock ROM with the updates included? On this last update, Devs had it ready to flash for root users (minus the hboot) before I even got notification of the update on my phone.

As someone else mentioned root now and then flash a rooted version of the OTA. OR if you update now without root you can always root via HTC method later. Either way you root itll void your warranty.
Don NOT ACCEPT any OTA UNLESS you have S-Off.
with S-Off you can still save yourself if you flash an OTA, i would S-off and Root your device now then apply the ODEX 2.3.4 that's already been posted in the forum.
Their is no guarantee that 2.3.4 will be rooted soon

can this update be done if you are rooted and unlock?
It is always recommended to not accept any ota updates once rooted as you may lose root and the ability to root in the future. The dev's will post a stock rooted updated rom within a day or two. I would wait and flash that.
I'm sure you could, but give the devs time they will work this into an update fairly quickly I"m sure. you never know what OTA is going to break root or worse.
I wouldn't take the OTA. be patient

I have root with the stock ROM, and I am using RootKeeper. Has anyone verified that you can apply the OTA update and restore root with RootKeeper?

Take the advises from above and wait. I'm also waiting a little longer before flashing a ROM. If you want the fixes from this update just download MEAN ROM and install it, it already has most of this fixes incorporate. The most important feature for me is tethering and I already got it.

General rule of thumb is to never accept OTAs if you plan on being or are rooted. If you have s-off that should be safe though, far as I know the only way to lose it is to manually turn it back on.

There is a new hboot included in this ota so i would be very careful even if s-off.

Dang njfoses. xHausx's comment was going to give me confidence enough to update and then you go and throw some doubt back in my mind. Oh well.
Which method could I use to re root?
Unless you were s-off or unless someone has a safe way believe you're stuck for the time being. Would definitely be careful about experimenting. Regaw said he'd be updating to newest http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28782886&postcount=677 Don't know about Zedomax way...

Why would you accept an OTA if you wanted to keep root?
Just give it a few days, and the amazing devs will have something figured out for you. in the meantime, just enjoy the stock ROM.
I lost root after the latest OTA , and wont try anything until something safe is out, heard a few people tried the Regawmod and now the phone is dead paperweight!!
Nothing is out yet, but I am sure that the Dev's are working on it. :good:
It's crazy the amount of people that took the OTA update and were rooted. No offence to the OP, just seeing this ? Popping up all over the forum . It really is madness taking the update if your concerned about root.
Hope all works out for you man

I took the OTA and I'm rooted again.... It's not even that difficult.
I wanted google wallet and I wanted it bad! So I ran thru the hastle of hacking Google wallet so I could get into settings and clear it. Then HTC re-locked my phone. Ran the RUU, then accepted the OTA. From here I ran the HTC unlock again. Then flashed TWRP (I used adb fastboot method):
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/98
Once that's installed you can flash supersu via this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Find: CWM installable ZIP in the OPs sig block (it works fine with TWRP on 1.22 software)
From there I just installed busybox (by Stepen) via the market. Grabbed Titanium Backup, and here I am. Rooted phone with 1.22 stock ROM.
Not all of the old mods work anymore though. My favorite, which was the battery mods, don't work. They don't even come close to working, so make sure you nandroid backup before you start tinkering..
Nah!! too complicated...I just wait for a new method.

I received similar advice from a forum moderator, and as soon as I have time and the ability to singularly focus on the process, I will give this a try.
However, I think a lot of us want the one-step method for rooting the LTE with the new OTA installed. For those of us new to the process and negative results, we chalked this up as one of the infamous "lessons learned."
Thanks!

If you're sitting there with the OTA already applied....the whole process takes about 5 minutes. I would love to script it out, but I'm still learning, and have no idea how to do that. If anyone here knows a little something, I'd be more than happy to help/test/etc. I'd love to be able to give the community a one click root for the OTA....
Have you tryed this?

Hey guys. I have been looking for a way to root my Evo 4g LTE. It's factory original now and I want to get it rooted. I upgraded to Jelly Bean from the updates on the phone and as far as I can tell I can't load FoxFi or even try to get Wifi Tether working on it. The all in one root process that I see on the forums here are for ICS. Anyone have a way to help me with this? I just got the phone and I really like it's functionality and speed butt I need to root it so I can tether with my laptop. Thanks!

Personally, I used the risky downgrade method then used lazypanda so I can retain s-off through OTA updates while still keeping HTC's infamous ***LOCKED*** at the top. I don't recommend it though because I bricked my phone for about six hours until I figured out how to fix it.

How to root with S-On:
Unlock the bootloader:
http://htcdev.com/bootloader/
Install TWRP:
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/98
Use the "Download - Fastboot Method"
If you need ADB and Fastboot, download from here http://d-h.st/iqA
Now install root by installing http://download.chainfire.eu/298/Sup...erSU-v0.99.zip using TWRP.
Disclaimer. Not responsible if your phone blows up. It worked for me, and worked well.
Good Luck!!!!
