Here's an idea, maybe something else can contribute or confirm it might works..
the Nook honeycomb image is actually running on top of a 2.6.29-omap kernel, which indicate that only some parts might require 2.6.36.3 functions.
I know that the main problem for me porting it, was the libc.so which uses kernel calls not found in our existing 2.6.32.9 kernel. so it crashed due to some cache functions not implemented.
- could the missing cache functions be implemented into our 2.6.32 kernel?
- can the Nook edition with a working libc.so (hopefully without FPU function compiled) be used to replace our xoom image libc.so which crashes?
So to make an early edition can we merge the ARMv5 libs (i assume it is from the emu) and use this with xoom edition and then keep our libnv* environment which is compatible without our nvrm_daemon (which no one can fix, although a proper kernel work for booting 2.6.36.3)
ideas.. but if its possible to put into "real life" is another story.
and how many can do experiments?
Artem wrote he is on the 2.6.36.3 kernel, but since we might have an option to go around, maybe also worth considering, if display driver lacks nvrm_daemon support.

i tries all this out now.. and got passed some link references between libs but the "libc.so" issue came coming back..
so it did not work..
im closing the idea here :-( not worth spending time on, so only the solution with updating kernel and rewriting drivers must be the way forward.
May be I should wait for ubuntu 11.04 or some other linux OS for folio 100
Toshiba &Google is not so kindness. Are they only want to earn more money, right?

Yup, I also think that waiting for updated kernel + drivers from the new Toshiba folio 200 is a more feasible approach...

correct,
we already know it has different resolution . and probably better display now, and no hardware buttons on the side, so no I2C used for this..
i think its very different, as it probably also got 802.11n wifi now, which we dont have and need different ar6000 driver.
i think its a long road downhill for folio100 if the 200 edition should be anything close as source for porting.

Please, I'm no expert in this, so bare with me for asking questions.
Honeycomb uses a different kernel than Froyo ok.
For Froyo we have the source for all (hardware) drivers ?
Can the "android" part of Honeycomb (from for example Xoom) be put on
a kernel with required hardware drivers or are there stuff in the "android"
stuff that is hardware dependant ?
Is it hard to port drivers between kernel versions ?
Just trying to understand the many tasks need to get Honeycomb on Folio.
/Martin
The problem in this case is there is no honeycomb kernel sources out there.

xoom kernel source is available, koush used it to make his clockworkmod work , and it works fine, and its also used for oc'ing.
but its pretty much the tegra2 source we can get from nvidia. but alot of porting to do.
So, What we are still missing is?

great news
i dont know how to compile or port stuff but i can say that i love my folio and i love all the devs that are working hard to port honeycomb on our device! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Hey everyone! I wanted to let you know that you can now submit kernels for the Evo 3D to Kernel Manager! If you haven't heard of KM, it's a project with a very simple but ambitious goal: create a place where all kernel developers can submit kernels easily and reach a much wider audience with ease.
Using Kernel Manager to flash kernels takes less than 30 seconds, generally, and it is extremely simple for end-users to find a kernel, filter by kernel features (BFS, CFS, HAVS, SBC, etc) download/install kernels, and submit ratings for their favorites.
We need from kernel developers like YOU! Submitting a kernel to Kernel Manager is totally free and we even provide hosting for you! Submitting kernels is easy!
If you use IRC, join us in freenode in #kernel-manager!
THIS LINK IS FOR KERNEL DEVELOPERS SPECIFICALLY! Go to http://kernels.teamw.in and register for an account! Once it's approved, you can easily enter new kernels, which immediately show up in the app. The app is currently available in the market.
Please feel free to provide me with any feedback you have, or feature requests in order to make this a great tool for all of android to utilize!
Also, as an update, I FINALLY figured out the crappy "couldn't create boot image!" error that a lot of people were probably seeing.
I'm pushing the fix now - it should be in version 1.4.0P. I haven't merged it into Lite yet though.
Is there a guide to developing kernels?

Here's the problem. HTC has not released the source code for the latest update which has stopped kernel development in its tracks. When they first released the source for the 2.3.3 kernel, the devs were making custom kernels and we even had netarchy on board. When the phone was updated to 2.3.4 the kernel code is not released and now there is no custom kernels. Sure, there are tweaked kernels, but without the source code the devs can't do much with them. Hopefully the source will be released shortly and we will start seeing more kernels pop up!
seems devs dont wanna use this useful app .. bummer
Yes i love this app. So much more easier to use. Wish all the kernel devs used it. I always ask them to in there thread, but never get a response.
Hello People, I'm Moon And trough my world of android have i gotten lowend devices for own use. i love them because they're so cheap and still Great.
I have come from the GT540 Optimus to the ZTE blade and now the x8,
(I kept the Blade trough.) I am a big fan of Racht and his sense ports, what i want to ask you people for, since Racht seems to have disappeared should we do what developers and friends of him do. We finish what he started.
Most important is currently The GL Drivers I think, Maybe some RAM Management. The free ram is very low. (about 40\50mb) This causes Rosie to reload after coming from other apps. this would be cool to fix.
I asked XDA MEMBER # Kenia1234 (he ported it to the SGS)
About 3d\open gl and wifi. this was his reply.
however as regards 3D I fixed it using my device's libs under system/lib/egl or under /vendor/lib/egl and of course using a CM7 powered kernel...
as regards the wifi, it's a little bit more complicated...you'd need to have the bins of your device under /system/bin and the firmwares all in order, as the kernel wants to...
hope this was useful!!

racht said that he will port HTC kernel and that means fully working Sense rom as soon as he's back.
I don't know where he is or what is he doing, but he's on xda often. (last activity today).
And I think he's getting Xperia Ray - his post here. Also that's the last thing he posted.
Anyway, the man will spoke, and we shoud donate to him a new device if he's selling his one. To continue development. But, we need to wait until the man spokes!!
I appreciate racht so much, and I hope he doesn't forget our X8.

I See, Thanks for Providing this information to the masses.
The Ray is the best Choice after the Arc, For me, Since i like big screens.
But yes. Lets just hope for the best. the Guy i updated on, (On the op) is doing GB sense too. We should let Racht Rest and hope for the best.
In racht's last Sense Port there is a lot of bugs. I really love that rom but it has a lot of bugs.
I was without SIM Card and in the Notification Bar it was showing that i used %S(something like this) tries for the unlock key and blablabla.
SD Safe to remove bug in ROOT Apps
I tried to connect the phone to my car radio and it doesn't show anything in the phone, only the icon changed to charging, but no led, no popup for connecting, nothing. And the radio does not recognized the phone. (i think it will happen the same in the computer, i think)
3d, wifi, 3G and vibra not working, as it shows on the original topic
So this is what has to be worked on
I cannot help you so much because i'm not a good java developer, i can only understand some parts of the code, but i cannot write it. But if you want a beta tester i'm here to try to find the maximum bugs i can
I will love if someone could continue what Racht did
I am following the news.
As I have said some months ago, X8 is now added to official CM tree, you can see here :
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=shakira
So, I guess thats the end of CM story (even that I prefer tweaks by doixanh).
Sense rom depends on kernel features that do not work on .29 kernels.
See HTC threads, all new roms require .32 or .35 kernels, lets hope X8 will get a new kernel ported.
And thanks again for support

Hello everyone.
I am running Pure ICS 7.2 Rom and like it very much.
Now i'm in need of finding the most suitable kernel that does not differ alot from stock kernel.
It does not need alot of functionality.
I just want it to be very stable, fast and light..
So no need for 100 of features im not going to need anyways.
The only feature I currently need is the BLN mod.
All the kernels support this, but in the mean time they support 100 of other things, which leads me to the conclusion, the kernel becomes bloated.
Can someone recommend me the most lightweight/fast/stable kernel.
May i remind you, I dont need overclock, underclock, governors, scheudlers etc etc.. I just want to leave it as is!!!!
NEAK kernel says
"The lightest kernel for I9100 ever made!!"
But I find that hard to believe if one looks at the feature list.. It is HUGE!!!!
Thanks in advance
Try neak, its fast and light.im currently using it
Sent from my GT-I9100
neak is good but give a try to siyah too all depends the way u use it an ull get ur results as which kernel is good for u.no one will tell tht a perticular kernel is the no 1...we all experiment an thts the way it is......cheeerz

please read before posting - or try understand the difference between a kernel and rom...
@op the only way to find out is test them yourself - recommended with BLN, would be neak or siyah obviously

Please guys be more precise and read the first post again!!!
I know I can just try different kernels as the first few posts suggest.
But c'mon guys why reinvent the wheel with kernels as well?
I know its a good idea to try different ROMS, and I give the same advice to others, and I have already tried my share of ROMS.
But its just plain stupid doing the same with kernels as well.
In the siyah forum post, some people complain about random restarts etc. The kernel motto is "One kernel to rule them all"..
I DONT NEED SO POWERFULL KERNEL!
I dont need 100 features, 100 governors, support for CM9 and all its functionality etc. etc.. I just want to install and go.
Dont want to play around with scheudlers, governors, OC/UC etc. etc..
You guys catch my drift?
I have very specific demands which I stated in the first post.
I didn't just ask "Which kernel should I use..."
Therefore please only post something, if you have something usefull to say. Not just try NEAK kernel! And why exactly should i try NEAK kernel?
In that forum, people complain about lagging issues etc..
I DONT NEED THAT!
I need a kernel I can flash and forget! Dont want to visit XDA every 2 days to check for updates to the kernel!
Exactly like stock kernels and ROMS. They are only updated maybe once every 6 months or so, because they are stable, and dont crash too often!
I need to have the same experience with the kernel!
well mate, to be honest with ya ICS kernels still obviously aren't 100% stable as sources have only been released for a short period... it obviously sounds like you want a stock Kernel or a kernel similar to SpeedMod, but guess what? they don't have BLN which you stated you wanted. Both Neak and siyah do, and are decent choices, some people prefer one over the other, there is no one better choice, definitely at this current stage in ICS development - so choose one this is why people are saying test one and see for yourself; otherwise move back to gb if you really need BLN and complete stability.

Coming from HTC Desire, I was kind of shocked Samsung omitted the notification led ( why o'why would they do that )
And off course all the reviews of SGS2 were praising the phone so much, they didn't state the obvious con of not including this led
Why don't you stay with the cf root kernel until the other kernels get a stable version?

I know what you mean! I had a galaxy s2, however was stolen and found a HTC Desire cheap, so used that for a while, loved the led notification light! However couldn't overlook the fact of the speed of the galaxy s2 and finding one cheap shortly after (thanks ebay!), I reverted back to the s2; one thing its missing is the led, for sure! Though while we do have BLN, it does affect the battery life so isn't really ideal. Though back on topic, if we wait a month I believe we will have stable, fast kernels (whilst also having BLN of course ) , which will shred gb and the custom kernels we had for that.

I know the answer to your question: the best kernel is ...... - the one which works best for you
How can you find out about that:
1. Read about kernel's tunables
2. Flash a kernel
3. Try settings which fit to your needs
4. Observe how your phone behaves on those settings
5. Finetune your settings - if required.
6. Keep the kernel if it meets your expectations or
7. Repeat the steps 1 - 6 on another kernel.

What you are saying is very subjective. The rom developer wouldn't include a kernel which is not suitable for daily use to the installation package, so any of the kernels would be good enough for "the first shot" as far as quick decision is required.
BTW, do you really know what are you saing:
"kernel for making the phone faster and that extends the battery"?
Performance and battery saving are rather two extremities - if you tweak a kernel to make your phone faster / more responsive - definately the phone will drain more battery and vice versa.
So important is to find a balance. But this balance might be different for different phones (piece of hardware), firmwares as well as the users

Yes indeed, but he asked and in order to give an answer, you must really have tried this specific kernel so that you can advise him..
Yes I know, but I didn't want to only talk about battery consumption or he would complain about performance, not to forget that the performance of dorimanx is good.. I would rather lose a discussion than not providing help for someone needing it^^
But it doesn't matter what we do, people with "which is the better ROM, kernel, horses" would always ask this question because these ones get registered to just ask it...
