got my new SGS2 but messed up the root :( - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, been reading up for a while and although i didnt feel 100% confident i couldnt help myself from trying to root my phone.
i looked in settings and noticed i had XW KF3 kernel so i downloaded CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4 put into Download mode and tried to flash using odin. i kept saying failed 1. i searched around for a while and found GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3 this successfully flashed but gave me a yellow triangle so i took battery out and flashed it again but its still the same? i keep getting this yellow triangle? my phone says its a GT-9100 ive since tried numerous kernels but cant seem to get it back to normal now
please help.
kev

Why do you start rooting when you don't feel confident about it?
Anyway
1. Flash a stock rom to get back to stock. You probably want the KF3 stock rom.
2. Try CF-Root again and follow the instructions. It almost can't fail if you followed the instructions.
3. Dont use GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3 again. Stick with CF-root.
Don't worry you will be fine. Just take your time and read.
My last advice: if you get a failed error again, try to find out WHY it says failed instead of jumping to an other method.

Thanks for replying,
i can flash I9100XWKF3_Kernel no problem but it gives me a triangle
i then disconnect the phone and take battery out and put back into download mode and plug in usb cable and run odin and then try
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4
but this gives me this error :

in download mode it says ODIN MODE,
product name : GT-i9100
custom binary download: yes (8 counts)
current binary: custom
im so stupid i should have just left it till i was 100% confident

Have you closed kies completely? alt+ctlr+del >> processes and kill everything with kies in it?
What are the steps that you took? Please be detailed.

yeah kies is killed by control alt and delete,
unplug phone and put into download mode.
plug phone in
open odin
select pda and point it to c:\I9100XWKF3_Kernel
flashes no problem and then phone restarts to triangle
i then unplu take out battery and put back in then go to download mode and plug cable in and open odin and pda and point it to
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4
then it comes up with failed.
dont know what else to try?

If you don't want the yellow triangle you have to flash a stock rom(a wipe one I think it's better).
if you want root but no yellow triangle you can flash an insecure kernel, the cf-root kernel and then an original kernel....
Hope this helps! But don't worry about the yellow triangle...

ok so i just tried all this again using the stock then i flashed the CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4 which this time worked but im still on the triangle? how do i now flash a rom becuase i cannot get the phone to start past the triangle?

read this post very carefully and make sure you have the correct files before attempting.

Guys, his device is not even booting. At least that is what I make of his story.

yeah its not booting it just says samsung galaxy sII with a yellow triangle and just sits there?

If you can boot to recovery, try to flash a custom rom after doing all the wipes(wipe data, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache). If it boots, wipe cache partition, salvia cache and internal sd card...

RESULT! it was the stupid USB cable. went up town and got an original from carphone warehouse and its now working. thanks guys!!

[Q] Really big problem, keeps boot cycling, HELP?

Hi guys,
So I tried to root my phone today - I dont know what happened or what I did wrong, but my phone now is locked constantly into a boot cycle. It'll turn on, boot into the lockscreen for maybe 20 seconds, then reboot itself. Nothing i do seems to help. I tried flashing back to the stock rom, flashing back to stock rom + root, but to no avail. Ive been desperately trying to find a solution that will at least allow me to get to the data on the phone (i have some pictures that i haven't backed up that are absolutely essential) and then i have no problem doing a complete data wipe or whatever is necessary.
Someone PLEASE help! phone is completely unusable at this point!

When you flashed the STOCK rom was it a ZIP or a TAR file?
Before I can help I need to know.
Zipfiles require CWM Recovery for flashing and TAR files require ODIN for flashing.
I flashed the TAR file in ODIN 1.85, PDA.tar from the unzipped file UCKH7_stock_odin.7z
So I just tried it again, for something like the 4th or 5th time. I checked only "AUTO REBOOT" and "RESET TIME" in Odin, selected PDA as PDA.tar from UCKH7_stock_odin, got the following sequence from Odin
<ID:0/006> Odin v.3 engine (ID:6)..
<ID:0/006> File analysis..

I've let it run for a little while to see if it can figure itself out, but after the third or fourth time i get nervous and pull the battery.

ok, here is what to do.
Download this stock rooted rom: http://www.multiupload.com/PNQC9KOD4D
and download the MODEM file for the rom: http://www.multiupload.com/VWTSCXE5L0
After you extract both TAR files flash both of them at the same time by
putting the PDA tar file into the PDA slot in ODIN and the MODEM tar file
in the PHONE slot in ODIN then start flashing.
Don't check or uncheck any checkboxes in ODIN.
When its done flashing, it should boot into the STOCK ROOTED rom.
Before, or after doing the above boot into recovery and do a data wipe/factory reset
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Didn't work. Still stuck in the same boot pattern. Redownloaded ODIN, redownloaded all the links again just to guard against any kind of corrupted files, but same end result, constant reboot cycle.
Samsung galaxy s2 --> at&t rethink possible --> preparing usb storage/lock screen --> reboot
You probably need to do a wipe data/factory reset.
Since you apparently have files that you want - enter CWM recovery and adb pull them.

Try this first if you have not tryed it yet, it looks like odin flashed the PDA
file sucessfully, but did not flash the modem.
So put the modem into the PDA slot in ODIN and flash it.
If that don't work then do it vica versa and only flash the
PDA file in the PDA slot in ODIN.
This way you will know for sure which TAR file is not flashing.
(if you only have one TAR file to flash at a time with ODIN always put it in PDA slot)
If that don't work then try the method below.
Try this, turn off the phone or pull the battery, turn the phone back on or
replace the battery and go into CWM recovery and select
"Wipe Data/Factory Reset" Don't worry, it will NOT delete any pictures
or videos, or anything which you personcally have saved into a folder
you have created and it will not even touch the external sdcard if you have one.
It will however delete all the apps which you have installed in the phone prior
to having the problems you have now..
Is the data wipe / factory reset going to delete pictures off my phone? thats really my last resort.. I have a couple dozen pictures that I took on my phone since i purchased that I haven't had a chance to backup.
Does anybody have any ideas?

Its not going to delete any pictures, videos or even music you have
on the phone.
Anything which YOU have SAVED to the phone will not be touched
except usernames or passwords, credit card #'s might be deleted.
But actual files or folders you created will stay intact as well as
the external sdcard if you have one will not even be touched.
I think the reboot is occurring due to corrupted settings of network or files ystem. You can try this. pull out the battery, remove sim and sd card if you have any, then try booting..
Factory reset or data wipe should not theoretically wipe your pictures.. It basically wipes only /data partition. I have done factory reset which retained my pictures..
But to be on safer side, try the above step to see, if you can get the phone running..
Had same issue trying to factory restore with Odin. Wipe from e3 did the trick.

Those SHOULD be on /sdcard, but I can't guarantee it. Also, if you use 3e recovery, there's a chance that might hit /sdcard.
MJ, you should never guarantee something like that to someone.
Make sure you have ADB set up - I suggest Googling Droid Explorer if you're on Windows
Flash a CWM-enabled kernel
Enter CWM using the three-finger trick (this should work fine)
In CWM, go to Mounts and Storage and mount /sdcard and /data if they are not mounted
Connect to your phone using ADB and start looking for your files - I think Droid Explorer makes this MUCH easier by providing a nice graphical frontend to ADB push/pull
so this is what i'm doing right now.
Obviously my problem is constant rebooting.
1. Flash UCKH7 stock odin PDA.tar and UCKH7 modem via odin onto phone via odin
2. flash CWM recovery ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.3 via odin as PDA
3. both these step pass OK, now Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 bootscreen with yellow triangle shows up + at&t logo, however constant reboot problem is still present
4. pull battery unplug usb replugin battery and attempt to enter cwm recovery via holding down volume up+volume down+power button
5. CWM based recovery 5.0.2.3 flashes up for a brief second after bootscreen, then immediately reboots and reenters boot cycle
REALLY stuck here. i spent the whole day looking through the forum and i'm really not sure where i went wrong. the only thing that doesnt have the reboot cycle is download mode.
im basically trying to reach the step where i can enter cwm recovery and attempt to do a factory wipe, but it still reboots the enter i enter cwm recovery and enters the normal reboot cycle. i have NO IDEA how i couldve corrupted the file system this badly, perhaps the usb cable got bumped during the initial root? who knows. all i know is i cant even bring the phone to any form of usable status right now. any ideas?

You really do have a problem.......
I remember before getting this new SGS2 when I had the Samsung Infuse.
There was a thread in the Infuse forum called "The Ultimate Unbrick", I know
that there is a simular thread here for our SGS2 however the unbrick here is
lacking the PIT file.
I am 100% sure that if you could get a hold of something like the
Ultimate Unbrick which included the *.PIT file that it would solve the
problem you have.
The Ultimate Unbrick for the Samsung Infuse consisted of a
PDA*.TAR, PHONE*.TAR and the *.PIT file and it came with ODIN too.
The PIT file repartitions the sdcard to stock which fixes any partition
errors the phone may have due to flashing a non-compatible rom or
due to the flashing process being interupted while odin was flashing.
You might want to ask around the forum here if anyone has a stock
ODIN rom which includes PDA, MODEM and the PIT file for SGS2 i777.
I know for a fact that for the Infuse phone a complete stock package like
that always worked for fixing and solving problems like yours.
The only problem a package like this could not fix was if the phone
was hard-bricked meaning that it would not turn on at all no matter what.
Good luck with it..........
wow, the thought that i might be completely bricked is genuinely terrifying. really frustrating too, as i definitely consider myself fairly tech savvy.
Are you getting any indication that any of your capacitive buttons are acting like they are continually being pressed?
Did your phone at any time get wet?
The reason I ask is it almost seems like a hardware problem at this point. I would pull your battery and check the water indicators and see if there are any signs of moisture.
If there are no signs of moisture and you are pretty positive the phone is dry I would put the battery back in, don't turn it on, plug it into a wall charger and let it charge for a few hours. Then try to get into recovery again.
If after that you are still getting boot loop even in recovery we will link you to a .pit file and have you try a re flash to stock with a re partition.

thanks for the advice dayv.
I'm 100% sure theres been no water damage. I've barely had the phone for a week, and everything was working fine up until now. Other than that, I guess i'm going to have to go for the pit method - going to charge the phone overnight, see if it boots into cwm one last time, and then i'm going to use the following pit file from paulyhoffman
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286218
so just to go over the procedure one last time - download mode on phone (only thing that seems to be working correctly so far)
flash PIT (I777UCKH7.pit), PDA (PDA.tar) and PHONE(UCKH7_modem.tar) at the same time, with REPARTITION, AUTO REBOOT, and RESET TIME checked in Odin?

Bricked but recoverable, refusing to flash!

Hi guys,
I've owned android phones since the G1, motocliq, nexus, sgs2 (intl), motodroid, all rooted, custom rom, etc etc... So when a friend asked me to unlock (for which i had to root) his i777 I thought I could handle it.
I followed the guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286220
Went into download mode (could only do it with the VOL+-USB trick) and flashed CWM on Odin. Flashed fine, no problem, rebooted and only showed SAMSUNG letters on the bootup, nothing more. Tried going into CWM Recovery, no luck, Download mode, works fine. So I went over and re-flashed it, worked, but still can't get it to boot, or Recovery to work.
So then I started trying to flash other PDA's thinking i could do it, and maybe cwm was bugged, every time I try to flash ANYTHING that's not that specific CWM it says Write error, FAILED. When i reboot, the phone is softbricked (computer-phone logo saying connect recovery on kies). After this nothing at all will flash, except that CWM, which gives me download mode again... Which doesnt matter because the softbrick screen is a download mode in itself.
Im running out of options, im not sure where I should keep looking, Heimdall, installed, tried to flash, it transfers, at 99% says error writing and cancels. Tried flashing a new .pit and repartitioning, same story, wont let me.
Any suggestions would be more than welcomed :/
Sincerely,
Rodo

Use my return-to-stock packages from dev forum.
Hi Entropy, I've tried but I can't seem to find an Odin flashable .tar, they're all CWM flashes and my CWM is screwed.

Yup.. no luck :/

Try installing Entropy's stock, or stock + root using one of these Odin3 One-Click Downloaders. That will take some of the variables out of the equation. If that doesn't go, you need to figure out if the problem in in the pc or the phone. Let us know your results.
I don't guess you need instructions, but if you do, they are in the flashing custom binaries guide linked in my sig.
Tried at least two previously, they report the same error. giant FAIL in red. I tried another computer previously, and this computer flashes my i9100 just fine (which i presume are the same drivers). In any case I installed the heimdall drivers for USB (on windows, which ruins Odin, but works fine after you uninstall those drivers) included in the package.
Still having no luck with this issue... Anyone know what could be causing that write error on download mode Odin? Perhaps I could flash a different recovery console?
Have you installed Samsung kies just to make sure you have proper drivers? Can make all the difference in the world.
Some people have a tough time getting the wrong drivers uninstalled. Easy check if that is the problem, go to a different pc that you haven't plugged your phone into and first install the right version of kies that you need.
Then plug your phone in and flash through Odin, transfer files over or redownload, hopefully all will be well.

Im still stuck with this issue and apparently after a few extra flashes it now shows:
Custom binary download: NO
Current Bunary: Samsung Official
Which isnt true, but w/e. It will still only flash SGH-1777 clockwork recovery and it will now not even show the samsung logo and become unresponsive as soon as you put the battery in. (the phone heats up, even if i dont try to turn it on, drains the battery dead in a couple hours)
So, I want to give it a try with heimdall and a full repartitioning, but I do not have the necessary files. Ive been looking and I cant find all the partition files, aka
PDA/Code:
FactoryFS=factoryfs.frs
Kernel(zImage)=zImage
Param.lfs=param.lfs
Primary Bootloader=boot.bin
Secondary Bootloader=slb.bin
CSC:
Cache=cache.rfs
Database Data=dbdata.rfs
In Other:
Modem=modem.bin
Recovery=recovery.bin
Could someone dump these files for me? Thanks!

Yeah I think you are going to have to go back to stock, since you still can access download mode and CWM it means that your bootloaders are most likely not messed up.
So have you tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531850 And what stock US rom do you have?
And if that is to confusing go to that link
1) Download stock rom found here (it's in the link I gave you above look for G1UEKI8 Restore Pack (Odin) Download)
2) Download and install Kies found here: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/ (if you haven't, it's for the driver)
3) Download and install Odin just click the link http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...IxHp1ISlP2fzGKhtw&sig2=ZjUHLCkIbG1_EprOk9enrA
4) Enable USB Debugging from the GP 4.0 (Settings-> Applications-> Development Check box for USB Debugging) (It's fine if you can't do this step but it is recommended)
5) Turn off the player regularly then put it into download mode (Hold Volume down and power), Icon that says downloading at the bottom should pop up (looks like this http://techbyte.co.in/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Android_download.jpg)
6) Open Odin (make sure only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked or you will brick your device)
7) Plug in Galaxy Player to USB port. Under ID:COM it should say something like 0:[COM4] and is yellow. In the message area it should say "Added!!"
8) Hit PDA and select the .md5 or .tar file named "YPG1USFullResotore.tar" (only use the .pit file if you want to re partition your player otherwise it is not needed)
9) Hit Start and wait until it finishes. Should take anywhere from 2-4 minutes.
10) Turn off player, and put it into recovery ( when samsung logo appears Hold simultaneously power + volume up ])
looks like this http://h8.abload.de/img/20100829_004w6fq.jpg
11) Do Wipe data/factory reset, and Wipe cache Partition
12) Profit
I followed your directions but it still doesn't work. I think odin isn't flashing it because it always is done in under 10 seconds. This is the log thing from odin

[Q] Used Framaroot, Superuser hangs. How to unroot & uninstall Superuser?

Hi, new member here. Video said to be brief, so here it goes:
Phone About details:
Model: AT&T Galaxy S II I777
Android: 2.3.6
Kernel: 2.6.35.7
Build: UCKK6
I wanted to do a factory reset on my phone, but I needed to backup some apps, like Viber, etc. So I needed root to use Titanium Backup Pro.
I used Framaroot to unroot. I chose to install Superuser. Root went ok (afaik) because I got a "Success" message and Superuser was installed. I then installed Titanium Backup Pro and tried to run it. It hanged on on the start screen where it says: "Asking for root rights...". I tried many times, once even 10 minutes, but every time I ended up pressing back button and then I always got "Activity Superuser Request (in application Superuser) is not responding". I tried waiting - no luck, I had to force close. Now I had no idea what to do, so I used factory reset thinking it will reset the phone and remove the Superuser. No luck - after the factory reset Superuser is still there and there is no option to uninstall it :/
So what do I do now? The chicken or the egg... From hours of searching google and here on the forums, I need to be rooted to use file manager to delete superuser, but I can run any app which needs root, coz stupid Superuser wont give it. Me>head>wall>bang.
Like the title says: how do I remove Superuser? I would ike to try SuperSU, maybe that one would work, as Framaroot says it rooted successfully... Or should I use any other root method?
Please, help me to sort this out.
Thank You in advance.
P.S. as I'ma newbie here I could not post/ask in the Framaroot thread.
I actually hadn't heard of this until now. Our device is said to be supported, you're correct. I've never used it, but I can tell you how I always root. I just install a kernel (our kernels on this phone have CWM recovery built into them. Never use rom manager) to root my device. I'm assuming since you're on gingerbread , you wanna stay on gingerbread? I flash an old siyah.tar file with Odin and bam. It's quick and works for me. However, there is this new app called exynos abuse . Works for ics I know that, and he says it may or may not work on 2.3.x as well. Worth a shot to look at .http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297
@Phalanx7621 thank you so much for replying.
Sorry for not being clear what I wanted to achieve, I was in a bit of a panic mode, I guess. I was worried about my phone and at the same time I was worried about making new thread, but I could not find anything on my problem.

To be precise I would like to know these couple of things:
I wanted to make sure, than I didn't ****up irreversibly and my phone is not doomed.
I would like to know how to install custom rom and root it. I would like to install SHOstock3 RoM for i777. I bought Galaxy Notes 2s for my gf and my mother and I love the Jelly Bean on their phones. BTW, maybe there is something better than SHOstock3?
I would like to know how to reset/reinstall the phone to get it back to the factory/new/untouched/original os state. I mean, if custom rom works funky, I would like to get back to official version. If its possible. And then at least root that stock android, to be able to use Titanium backup Pro to uninstall all that crapware that comes with it.
Should I use SuperSU (SuperSu Pro) instead of Superuser? I mean, Superuser clearly has some kind of problem on my phone.
What would be the best/safest way to do those things?

That is why I used it before posting here and asking to make sure I could use it. I usually have a rule to ask and double check before doing, especially when I'm risking bricking a phone for good. I am too poor to not care. I apologize if I'm asking obvious to you or dumb questions, but in reality, the amount of info here on the forums is a little bit overwhelming and confusing.
A. You dont need root to flash a custom rom. You need a custom kernel flashed via ODIN to get CUSTOM RECOVERY (aka CWM)
B. There are stickies and posts abound covering EXACTLY how to get back to stock and what files you need to do so
As long as you can get into DOWNLOAD mode, ODIN or HEIMDALL will get you out of any predicament...
You should do some research first before going any further..
So after reading and re-reading the guide [GUIDE] How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash Counter!! by creepyncrawly in the stickies, I want to double check my steps:
1. How to read the flash counter on an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II.
Already done - Custom Binary Download: NO, Current Binary: Samsung Official.
2. How to root by flashing Entropy512's Return/Unbrick to Stock, Kernel + Rooted System Package with Modem using Odin3 One-Click Downloader (Windows)
I'm on UCKK6 and windows user, so this one is the only option, I gather. Questions:
2a. Do I need to install Kies on my PC for this step? I ask, because I tried and was able to enter Download Mode by simply connecting my phone to PC without manually installing any drivers or Kies.
2b. Will there be any problems that I tried to root with Framaroot and there is Superuser (which doesn't work) installed on my phone already?
3. How to Install a customized kernel containing ClockworkMod Recovery onto your Rooted phone from your phone, using Mobile Odin Lite or Mobile Odin Pro
3a. Can I use Mobile Odin Pro? The guide says it a preferred method, at the same time I remember reading in some sticky warning against using Rom Manager (iirc Mobile Odin was mentioned too). Does it mean, that Mobile Odin Pro is ok to flash kernel, but not roms? I would prefer Mobile Odin, as it seems easiest.
3b. Guide says: Usually choose between the following two Gingerbread kernels: Entropy512's Daily Driver or Siyah 2.6. So which one? I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna be able to choose by only reading, I need some experienced recommendation on this one. Phalanx7621 said he uses Syiah, so I should probably too..?
[*]4. Flash the ROM package of your choice using ClockworkMod Recovery and a CWM flashable zip package or Mobile Odin with any package
[*]4a. Should I use ClockworkMod Recovery and nothing else?
[*]4b. I guess it all depends on whats the answer to question 3a. Can I use Mobile Odin Pro to flash Roms?
Thanks in advance.

No. You need USB Drivers for Samsung Phones, preferably the latest version. You can get that by installing kies, or by installing the drivers directly from download. Some people install kies to get the drivers, then uninstall kies without uninstalling the drivers. You may have them already. Look in the Uninstall Program dialog in Windows to see if you have USB Drivers for Samsung Phones listed. If so, you're good to go. Also, if you open a version of Odin on the desktop, then put the phone into download mode, you can tell if Odin recognizes the phone. If so, you have correct drivers. (You don't have to flash anything at this stage.)

No. The package will replace current system anyway.

Yes. You can use Mobile Odin Pro, or Mobile Odin Lite (the free version available in the developer's xda thread.) You can use this to flash the kernel, and you can use it to flash a complete firmware (rom). There is no connection between rom manager and Mobile Odin. You are evidently remembering wrongly what you read.

Remember that this guide is somewhat old, dating back to the very first firmware distribution that came with the phone, which was 2.3.4 Gingerbread. So, if you use the one-click downloader in this thread, you should install an custom kernel which is compatible with the system, or otherwise the system will not boot up. However, even if that happened, you could still boot into recovery and flash a firmware using ClockworkMod. Also, it doesn't matter which one you choose, because after you flash your custom firmware, that kernel will be gone anyway. It's just a step of the process.
The alternative to this would be to use the most current stock plus root package instead. There is a link to ICS 4.0.4 UCLL6 plus root at the bottom of the links in my signature. In that case, you can use the most current kernel, of which the most likely ones are also linked in the OP of that thread. The rest of the procedure is the same.
4a. Should I use ClockworkMod Recovery and nothing else?

Read the last paragraph in the guide. You can use ClockworkMod Recovery. You can use Mobile Odin. And you can use other methods as well. It's just that almost all firmware developers package their firmware (roms) in ClockworkMod flashable zip files. And you can not use the CWM zips in Mobile Odin.
Hope this answers all your questions. After you go through this, your phone should be just fine.

2c.) How to root by flashing Entropy512's Return/Unbrick to Stock, Kernel + Rooted System Package with Modem using Odin3 One-Click Downloader (Windows)
Download the "Odin3 One-Click Downloader Stock I-777 UCKH7 with Root no BL" package from (links removed for newb reasons)
Extract the contents of the zip file to a directory on your hard disk drive. This is a One-Click version of Entropy512's Return/Unbrick to Stock, Kernel + Rooted System Package plus stock modem from the development forum. (Contains stock zImage, factoryfs.img with root, and modem.bin.)
Start the Odin3 One-Click Downloader program by double clicking on "I777UCKH7 OCD With Root.exe".
Now Enter Download Mode:
With the phone powered off, plug in the usb cable while holding the vol up + vol down buttons (but not the power button).
When the warning screen appears, press Volume up to continue into download mode.
In Odin, the small edit box in the upper left corner will turn yellow, and say something like [0:COM8]. The number could be different.
Click Start. Watch the progress bar advance in green while the message box in the lower area describes the steps. When the flash is finished, the top left larger edit box will turn green and say PASS! and your phone will automatically reboot.
Unplug the usb cable from you phone after it boots up. Success. You're Rooted.

Go to the download repository linked in my signature, and attempt to flash the I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries, including bootloaders and param partition.
If that is successful then flash the stock plus root package again. If that is not successful, the go to the Gingerbread version of the SiyahKernel v2.6.14 and flash the tar version using Odin. This will increment the flash counter, but may clear the problem. If this flashes successfully, then flash the stock plus root package.
I'm going to bed. If you need further help, I'll be back on the borads sometime tomorrow afternoon or evening.

Thank you in advance.
Ok basically what it all boils down to--- all you need to flash a custom rom is a recovery mode that allows it. A custom recovery. Flashing all these packages just happen to get you back to a point where you're fresh and clean and some HAVE alternative kernels (remember kernel = recovery for our phone ) but its not necessary. After you flashed siyah.tar and it said passed, at that point you had a custom recovery flashed into your phone. It of course wouldn't boot up because it hasn't flashed anything else, but that's ok cause all you'd have to have done was reboot the phone, hold volume up down and power and bam, youre in recovery . then do a factory reset and wipe the /system partition and flash whatever rom you want. You can flash ANY kernel pretty much to get into recovery as whatever ROM you flash will overwrite it.
@cryodream,
Did you get this resolved? Did you try flashing from CWM recovery after installing Siyah kernel with Odin, as Phalanx suggested?

Thank you, actually, Thank You ALL so much, guys. Here's what I did:
downloaded SHOstock3 RoM for i777
copied SHOstock3-XWLSN-v3.0.2.zip onto the external SD card and put the card into the phone
booted into recovery mode
did "Wipe Cache Partition"
did "Wipe Data/Factory Reset"
installed SHOstock3 RoM from that zip file on SD card
Rebooted the phone and voila: Jelly Bean working!
Installed Root Checker (free version) and checked root: rooted
Result: rooted JB - exactly what I wanted, once again, thank You, guys, You rock!
A couple of questions:
1) Yellow triangle and flash counter (mine says YES (1 counts)). Solution - going to buy a Jig.
creepyncrawly said:
If your Custom Binary download is YES, your only option to reset this to NO is to use a Jig. The Jig is a micro usb plug with 301k ohms of resistance connected across pins 4 and 5. On the i777 running original bootloaders, it will reset the flash counter to NO as it puts the phone into download mode. You can make your own jig, or purchase one from many sources on the web.

2) When Booting the 1st welcome screen shows Samsung Galaxy GT-I9100. Should I just live with it, or can I fix it?
Did this happen when I flashed I777UCKH7-CL503881-Full.exe ? I mean is it because i flashed bootloader? I'm asking, because I see warnings in many places:
creepyncrawly said:
There is always some risk involved when flashing bootloaders. Please don't flash this unless you absolutely need to.

3) How can it be, that after so much flashing and doing wipes and factory reset, I still have old pictures on my phone? The pictures I made before all this. And contacts - actually now I have a complete mess in my contacts - I have double of pretty much all of my contacts. I guess now I have "old" contacts and "new" contacts, which google synced from my google account? I was pretty sure I would end up with a "clean/empty/reset" phone. I thought Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe Data/Factory Reset did exactly that? Now I'm really confused. So how in hell do I clean out my phone? I will want to clean it before selling, when the time comes to upgrade.
4) I hoped cleaning out my phone will remove this annoying New Voicemails (1) Dial +1-201-310-3747 notification. It is driving me crazy, I don't remember when it first appeared, but it's been a long time. I have no voicemails, but the notifications is still always there. I don't want to dial the number manually, should I?
USB jig will also clear the yellow warning triangle and I9100 boot screen.
That warning screen happened, and the flash counter was incremented when you used Odin to flash Siyah.tar. It has nothing to do with the bootloader. Actually the bootloaders in that UCKH7 package should be exactly the same as the original ones that were on the phone.
Pictures are stored on the sdcard. Wiping the data partition does not touch that. Contacts should have been wiped, so not sure where your duplicates came from, but I will say I always avoid letting google restore stuff when I flash. Cache partition does not contain anything that the user can access, it is only for the OS.
On 4 don't know the answer.
#4 Call and leave yourself a voice mail. Then delete it.
If this doesn't fix it permanently, you may need to get a new SIM card.

Than you again for the answers. I will buy that Jig thing tomorrow, I think I saw a link in one of your guides. As for the contacts mess, it's actually very simple - I was too happy and distracted that my phone finally works. All the doubles come from: sim card and gmail sync. I totaly forgot, that when I upgraded my evil iPhone4 to this SGS2 the girl at the at&t counter said that she transferred all my contacts.
Anyway, I've been battling with my contacts for hours now I was always too lazy to set them up properly. I figured it's time to set them up in gmail and that's gonna be the easiest way to have them backed up and synced.
Question about contacts: how do you guys save "company" contacts? eg.: Some Company Customer Service. I used to save only "Organization" field and that would show up in the contacts list as name. But now I see that gmail saves a phone number as name in this case. So I tried using "File As" and it works OK, but - I can't find that option on android. How do you guys save "company" contacts (if you do)?

Thanks, I will try that. I asked my gf to call and leave me a voicemail. Now I can't get into my voicemail. Instead of asking me for my password it asks me to "Please enter your mailbox number, specified by your system manager" I'll get into that after I'll finish my war with contacts
That sounds like you're using the wrong number to call your voice mail. Att? Or another service?

[Q] How to get SMS backup when recovery mode is not accessible??

Hello,
My Galaxy s2 is stuck in boot loop, I can see only the GS2 logo.
It went into this situation after holding down power button trying to turn it off.
Tried to remove battery and nothing changed.
Entered recovery mode and did wipe cache and then reboot.
It went past the initial logo, showed samsung animation and then it went back to samsung logo boot loop. It never went to samsung animation again.
From that point on it does not boot to recovery mode, it shows the android robot with the spinning cog for a while and then it goes back to the samsung logo boot loop.
The phone can go to download mode without problem. I have not tried to install a stock firmware through odin, since I would like to get a backup of the sms messages from the phone first. I already have backup of pics, contacts, etc so I dont care about anything else besides the sms.
The phone was running the latest spanish stock JB version
GT-I9100 Galaxy S II
PDA: I9100XWLSD
CSC: I9100FOPLS4
MODEM: I9100XXLS8
Added: 2013-02-03
The only modifications to stock were
. Root when it was running ICS
. CSC change from EUR to FOP (so that it auto upgraded to JB from ICS)
The phone retained root after the auto JB upgrade
Do you know if there a solution to this situation? I am still under warranty so I can take it back to samsung so I would like to avoid installing CWM recovery kernel that would make them immediately reject service due to warranty void.
thank you in advance!
Yes, you can keep trying to flash a stock firmware in Odin. Click the link in my signature if you're having troubles with the flash failing. Flash the JB version you were on before, that's got the most chance of working with out having to wipe.
Personally, I think you're going to have to get a working recovery and factory reset to be honest.

Correct. A 1-part firmware will not wipe by default. If you flash a 3-part firmware (JB leak, LSJ for instance) that WILL wipe by default.
If you flash something other than the firmware you were on directly before the bootloop, you've got pretty much no chance of getting out of the bootloop without a factory reset. If you flash the same firmware you were on before the bootloop, then there's a chance of getting it to boot up with all your data.
If that (flashing with the same stock ROM) doesn't work, then I'm afraid its down to a factory reset, sorry.

Ok then, I will give it a try and see how it goes. Another solution that I was thinking about is to try to install CWM through odin (i'm not sure if it's possible though) then boot into CWM and get backup through it. Then if I apply a stock firmware through odin, this would remove CWM and install the stock recovery kernel back, correct?
Yes, that's possible. You can flash Philz kernel via Odin, it's stock kernel only with root CWM. Other than that its the same. You could do that procedure using his kernel. When you flash stock rom via Odin then yes, you'd get rid of the custom recovery.
Depending on what you want to do (warranty etc) read up about the flash counter and then triangle away.

regarding the 1-part firmware, I downloaded from sammobile the I9100XWLSD_I9100FOPLS4_FOP.zip.
The zip archive contains a tar.md5 file I9100XWLSD_I9100FOPLS4_I9100XXLS8_HOME.tar.md5 and a dll file SS_DL.dll.
So I should use only the tar.md5 in the PDA section of odin, right? should I keep this dll in the same folder as the tar.md5 in case odin needs it?
Also does it make any difference which odin version should I use?
thaks again
Well I suppose it can't hurt to put it in the same directory, but I don't know if it really does anything. Yes, flash it in the pda section.. Which version? Take your pick. I usually use 3.0.4 but have also used others. Click my signature if you want a zip file with a few versions.

I tried flashing the same rom as it was installed but nothing changed, after the first boot I see the robot with the cog, a thin progress bar filling below it and then it goes to boot loop. No luck getting into recovery, still the same symptom... Besides the sms backup I am thinking about how to recover it, should I try installing 4.0.3 that was the factory default? Any more ideas??
thanks again
The odin log seems clean though, no error or anything else

And can you try a factory reset from the stock recovery? You're not on 4.0.4 so it'll be safe.
@gastonw, can you have a look here? I know that I've seen Odin passing but still no boot... I just can't remember how on earth it was fixed. It seems I didn't bookmark it either.

Could you provide more details on how to do a factory reset from stock recovery? Do you mean to flash 4.0.3 via odin? Or is it some options in odin that would enforce factory reset?
More details are to search for it mate. It's covered so many times that it's just plain spoonfeeding if I'm to post it.

Eventually I made it work by installing the 4.0.3 EUR via odin. I did not allow it to boot into the OS, as soon as it finished flashing via odin, I rebooted into recovery mode. This time it went in successfully. Then I used the CWM recovery kernel that just runs from the sd (it does not install) and got the full backup. Later on by using nandroid manager I recovered the sms messages + more (apps, etc). Thanks for all the help!
