Hi guys,
So I tried to root my phone today - I dont know what happened or what I did wrong, but my phone now is locked constantly into a boot cycle. It'll turn on, boot into the lockscreen for maybe 20 seconds, then reboot itself. Nothing i do seems to help. I tried flashing back to the stock rom, flashing back to stock rom + root, but to no avail. Ive been desperately trying to find a solution that will at least allow me to get to the data on the phone (i have some pictures that i haven't backed up that are absolutely essential) and then i have no problem doing a complete data wipe or whatever is necessary.
Someone PLEASE help! phone is completely unusable at this point!
Yes, I can enter download mode

When you flashed the STOCK rom was it a ZIP or a TAR file?
Before I can help I need to know.
Zipfiles require CWM Recovery for flashing and TAR files require ODIN for flashing.
I flashed the TAR file in ODIN 1.85, PDA.tar from the unzipped file UCKH7_stock_odin.7z
So I just tried it again, for something like the 4th or 5th time. I checked only "AUTO REBOOT" and "RESET TIME" in Odin, selected PDA as PDA.tar from UCKH7_stock_odin, got the following sequence from Odin
<ID:0/006> Odin v.3 engine (ID:6)..
<ID:0/006> File analysis..

I've let it run for a little while to see if it can figure itself out, but after the third or fourth time i get nervous and pull the battery.

ok, here is what to do.
Download this stock rooted rom: http://www.multiupload.com/PNQC9KOD4D
and download the MODEM file for the rom: http://www.multiupload.com/VWTSCXE5L0
After you extract both TAR files flash both of them at the same time by
putting the PDA tar file into the PDA slot in ODIN and the MODEM tar file
in the PHONE slot in ODIN then start flashing.
Don't check or uncheck any checkboxes in ODIN.
When its done flashing, it should boot into the STOCK ROOTED rom.
Before, or after doing the above boot into recovery and do a data wipe/factory reset
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Didn't work. Still stuck in the same boot pattern. Redownloaded ODIN, redownloaded all the links again just to guard against any kind of corrupted files, but same end result, constant reboot cycle.
Samsung galaxy s2 --> at&t rethink possible --> preparing usb storage/lock screen --> reboot
You probably need to do a wipe data/factory reset.
Since you apparently have files that you want - enter CWM recovery and adb pull them.

Try this first if you have not tryed it yet, it looks like odin flashed the PDA
file sucessfully, but did not flash the modem.
So put the modem into the PDA slot in ODIN and flash it.
If that don't work then do it vica versa and only flash the
PDA file in the PDA slot in ODIN.
This way you will know for sure which TAR file is not flashing.
(if you only have one TAR file to flash at a time with ODIN always put it in PDA slot)
If that don't work then try the method below.
Try this, turn off the phone or pull the battery, turn the phone back on or
replace the battery and go into CWM recovery and select
"Wipe Data/Factory Reset" Don't worry, it will NOT delete any pictures
or videos, or anything which you personcally have saved into a folder
you have created and it will not even touch the external sdcard if you have one.
It will however delete all the apps which you have installed in the phone prior
to having the problems you have now..
Is the data wipe / factory reset going to delete pictures off my phone? thats really my last resort.. I have a couple dozen pictures that I took on my phone since i purchased that I haven't had a chance to backup.
Does anybody have any ideas?

Its not going to delete any pictures, videos or even music you have
on the phone.
Anything which YOU have SAVED to the phone will not be touched
except usernames or passwords, credit card #'s might be deleted.
But actual files or folders you created will stay intact as well as
the external sdcard if you have one will not even be touched.
I think the reboot is occurring due to corrupted settings of network or files ystem. You can try this. pull out the battery, remove sim and sd card if you have any, then try booting..
Factory reset or data wipe should not theoretically wipe your pictures.. It basically wipes only /data partition. I have done factory reset which retained my pictures..
But to be on safer side, try the above step to see, if you can get the phone running..
Had same issue trying to factory restore with Odin. Wipe from e3 did the trick.

Those SHOULD be on /sdcard, but I can't guarantee it. Also, if you use 3e recovery, there's a chance that might hit /sdcard.
MJ, you should never guarantee something like that to someone.
Make sure you have ADB set up - I suggest Googling Droid Explorer if you're on Windows
Flash a CWM-enabled kernel
Enter CWM using the three-finger trick (this should work fine)
In CWM, go to Mounts and Storage and mount /sdcard and /data if they are not mounted
Connect to your phone using ADB and start looking for your files - I think Droid Explorer makes this MUCH easier by providing a nice graphical frontend to ADB push/pull
so this is what i'm doing right now.
Obviously my problem is constant rebooting.
1. Flash UCKH7 stock odin PDA.tar and UCKH7 modem via odin onto phone via odin
2. flash CWM recovery ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.3 via odin as PDA
3. both these step pass OK, now Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 bootscreen with yellow triangle shows up + at&t logo, however constant reboot problem is still present
4. pull battery unplug usb replugin battery and attempt to enter cwm recovery via holding down volume up+volume down+power button
5. CWM based recovery 5.0.2.3 flashes up for a brief second after bootscreen, then immediately reboots and reenters boot cycle
REALLY stuck here. i spent the whole day looking through the forum and i'm really not sure where i went wrong. the only thing that doesnt have the reboot cycle is download mode.
im basically trying to reach the step where i can enter cwm recovery and attempt to do a factory wipe, but it still reboots the enter i enter cwm recovery and enters the normal reboot cycle. i have NO IDEA how i couldve corrupted the file system this badly, perhaps the usb cable got bumped during the initial root? who knows. all i know is i cant even bring the phone to any form of usable status right now. any ideas?

You really do have a problem.......
I remember before getting this new SGS2 when I had the Samsung Infuse.
There was a thread in the Infuse forum called "The Ultimate Unbrick", I know
that there is a simular thread here for our SGS2 however the unbrick here is
lacking the PIT file.
I am 100% sure that if you could get a hold of something like the
Ultimate Unbrick which included the *.PIT file that it would solve the
problem you have.
The Ultimate Unbrick for the Samsung Infuse consisted of a
PDA*.TAR, PHONE*.TAR and the *.PIT file and it came with ODIN too.
The PIT file repartitions the sdcard to stock which fixes any partition
errors the phone may have due to flashing a non-compatible rom or
due to the flashing process being interupted while odin was flashing.
You might want to ask around the forum here if anyone has a stock
ODIN rom which includes PDA, MODEM and the PIT file for SGS2 i777.
I know for a fact that for the Infuse phone a complete stock package like
that always worked for fixing and solving problems like yours.
The only problem a package like this could not fix was if the phone
was hard-bricked meaning that it would not turn on at all no matter what.
Good luck with it..........
wow, the thought that i might be completely bricked is genuinely terrifying. really frustrating too, as i definitely consider myself fairly tech savvy.
Are you getting any indication that any of your capacitive buttons are acting like they are continually being pressed?
Did your phone at any time get wet?
The reason I ask is it almost seems like a hardware problem at this point. I would pull your battery and check the water indicators and see if there are any signs of moisture.
If there are no signs of moisture and you are pretty positive the phone is dry I would put the battery back in, don't turn it on, plug it into a wall charger and let it charge for a few hours. Then try to get into recovery again.
If after that you are still getting boot loop even in recovery we will link you to a .pit file and have you try a re flash to stock with a re partition.

thanks for the advice dayv.
I'm 100% sure theres been no water damage. I've barely had the phone for a week, and everything was working fine up until now. Other than that, I guess i'm going to have to go for the pit method - going to charge the phone overnight, see if it boots into cwm one last time, and then i'm going to use the following pit file from paulyhoffman
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286218
so just to go over the procedure one last time - download mode on phone (only thing that seems to be working correctly so far)
flash PIT (I777UCKH7.pit), PDA (PDA.tar) and PHONE(UCKH7_modem.tar) at the same time, with REPARTITION, AUTO REBOOT, and RESET TIME checked in Odin?
Hello, been reading up for a while and although i didnt feel 100% confident i couldnt help myself from trying to root my phone.
i looked in settings and noticed i had XW KF3 kernel so i downloaded CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4 put into Download mode and tried to flash using odin. i kept saying failed 1. i searched around for a while and found GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3 this successfully flashed but gave me a yellow triangle so i took battery out and flashed it again but its still the same? i keep getting this yellow triangle? my phone says its a GT-9100 ive since tried numerous kernels but cant seem to get it back to normal now
please help.
kev
Why do you start rooting when you don't feel confident about it?
Anyway
1. Flash a stock rom to get back to stock. You probably want the KF3 stock rom.
2. Try CF-Root again and follow the instructions. It almost can't fail if you followed the instructions.
3. Dont use GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3 again. Stick with CF-root.
Don't worry you will be fine. Just take your time and read.
My last advice: if you get a failed error again, try to find out WHY it says failed instead of jumping to an other method.
Thanks for replying,
i can flash I9100XWKF3_Kernel no problem but it gives me a triangle
i then disconnect the phone and take battery out and put back into download mode and plug in usb cable and run odin and then try
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4
but this gives me this error :

Have you closed kies completely? alt+ctlr+del >> processes and kill everything with kies in it?
What are the steps that you took? Please be detailed.
yeah kies is killed by control alt and delete,
unplug phone and put into download mode.
plug phone in
open odin
select pda and point it to c:\I9100XWKF3_Kernel
flashes no problem and then phone restarts to triangle
i then unplu take out battery and put back in then go to download mode and plug cable in and open odin and pda and point it to
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_CLK_KF3-v4.0-CWM4
then it comes up with failed.
dont know what else to try?
If you don't want the yellow triangle you have to flash a stock rom(a wipe one I think it's better).
if you want root but no yellow triangle you can flash an insecure kernel, the cf-root kernel and then an original kernel....
Hope this helps! But don't worry about the yellow triangle...

read this post very carefully and make sure you have the correct files before attempting.

Hi Pros,
I am very new to this and just created by ID after my phone went into a boot loop.
I have been using a galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) that i bought from a friend for the last 3 months. It worked perfect and I loved it. However today while calling a friend the phone hanged. I tried to restart and nothing happened so i pulled the battery out and restarted it. Since then the phone has been continuously restarting. On researching i realized that there is a term for this - "boot loop".
I tried the Volume Up + Power + Home and went into recovery mode. I wiped the data and wiped the cache. It did not help.
I tried the Volume down + Power + Home and went into Download Mode - ODIN (this would mean my friend flashed it before he gave it to me). I downloaded a custom stock ROM and used ODIN 3.0 to update it. It successfully finished but the phone still keeps restarting. I can only get till the screen to select the language and then it restarts.
I am very confused now and need help to fix this.
If you can get to the language screen then it's not a boot loop.. I'm sure..
Can you boot into recovery using vol up + home + power.. What do you see then?
What stock firmware did you flash and where from? Is the right region?

Thanks for replying. I get the language screen but before I can select anything it just re-boots.
In recovery i see the following options
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
How can I know if the region is right? I have it from a friend so I am not sure what region I am looking for. I download the stock ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610.
What do you think might the problem be?
In that section do a factory reset then clear the cache then factory reset again..

I did a factory reset -> clear cache -> factory reset from the recovery mode and installed the Poland stock ROM. It completed successfully as well. However the same problem persists. The phone starts, boots and shows the Samsung icon and then in about 15 seconds again restarts.
The following is the log from the ODIN.

Thanks Guys. I now understand that I am not rooted. I am downloading the CyanogenMod.
How do you think can this happen? Is some App causing the issue? I am try to understand that might be the cause of this. Can this be a hardware issue?
It could well have been an app that caused the problem in the first place but it's more likely the ROM.. Now since your not sure what ROM it was on its hard to Pont a finger at why..
When you format all apps and data are gone. Except the stuff in internal and external storage.. I.e Music and photos..
I don't think think that it is a hardware issue as it's most likely it would not boot to language menu.. Could be wrong though
Keep us informed on how it's going!
I personally don't like odin ... my advice is to roit your phone and then you'll have more options to fix issues

Guys,
Here is the latest update. I downloaded the stock ROM based on the model number and region and flashed my phone using ODIN.
The issue still persists, but in a very weird manner. The phone boots, then stays on for about 60 seconds. During this 60 seconds, you can call, text, surf and do whatever you want. Then the Phone re-starts. Then the phone is usable again for some time before re-starting.
Does this give you pros any idea on what might be wrong? Is this a boot-loop?
Latest Update:-
After a 4-5 restarts, the phone did not restart for the last one hour. I could text and even check my voice mails. The phone is the stock ROM and I have not installed any apps yet.
Then it all started again with a different frequency. Reboot and phone usable for 60 seconds-15 minutes and then restart!!!!
Now I am confused even more and want to get to the bottom of this issue.
1. Can this be a hardware issue?
2. Why did the issue start in the first place?
3. When I flashed ROM from a different region, can the phone detect that and restart it?
4. Is it because I am not rooted?
5. If I root the device, can i install ROM from different region?
Please pros, any guesstimate is appreciated.
Is not a boot loop mate. Endless reboots without start is .

Take your battery out of
your phone, and again insert it and enter into
the download mode by pressing Volume
down + Home + Power button. If your phone
doesn't enters the download mode don't
worry. Connect your phone with PC by USB
cable and open the Odin V1.85 in your PC.
After opening the Odin, Now press V olume
Up + Volume Down + Power Button . Your
phone will now boot in recovery mode by
Odin. After entering into the download mode,
it asks to press Volume Up button, Press it.
Now you're in the download mode by Odin.
While, the Odin running in your PC must
have recognized in your PC. Now select the
Pit Option, and select the .pit file that you
have downloaded with the Odin .zip file .
Now extract the stock ROM file in your
desktop. Then open the Odin. Now you've
selected the .pit file, now leave the boot
loader blank. And select the "PDA " option
and select the file that is named similar to
PDA that you've extracted in the desktop.
And now select the "Phone" and select the
file that is named similar to "MODEM" . Now
select the CSC and select the file name
similar to "CSC" and select it.
Now the Part is over. Just click the Start
Button , and it will be flashing the Stock ROM
on your Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i. Wait
for 5 Minutes, once it is complete. Unplug
the USB cabel, and boot your phone
normally. It'll take 5-10 Minutes for booting

Unplug
the USB cabel, and boot your phone
normally. It'll take 5-10 Minutes for booting
because it is now booting in a new ROM.

Thanks for the reply. I've got a couple of questions, though.
Firstly, it's a GT-S5839i, not a 5830i, so I assume I can't use the 5380i ROM in the link you posted?
Secondly, does it specifically have to be Odin V1.85? I was using the latest version (V3.09)
Thanks.

For some reason, after running Odin, the phone would say "E:failed to mount /data (invalid argument). After a bit of researching I found some different files that seemed to work. Not sure what the difference was, but they did the trick.
Thanks for pointing me in the right way, though. I've never had to recover a phone before, so I really appreciate the help.

I'm also having problems with my S5839i, and I'm also having trouble flashing the firmware with Odin 3.09.
Can you tell me what you ended up doing, and what files you used?

I will try your method, but the OP said that it didn't work, and that he had to use different files. I want to know what different files he used.
Hello, i've been broking my head with this cellphone ...
First than all i can acces Download Mode (Volume up - Volume down - Power buttom) but i can't not acces Recovery Mode as i try the key combination (Volume Up - Menu buttom - Power buttom) it gets stuck on Samsung Galaxy Ace GT S583M logo and never even reach Samsumg boot logo.
I tried flashing usign several odins and firmwares from M and I.. On sammobile. also with different versions of odin it keeps getting stuck on bootscreen. But sometimes when i flash with some roms it pass the Boot Screen logo and gets to a screen that i think is recovery.. it says something like
Looking for Updates
Appliing Update Package

Reboot
and after that it keeps getting on bootscreen.

And while spliting it do make wipe packages dont make non-wipe package and just flash them and see the result , i hope these will work because it erase all data /partitions of the Phone.
