My Mum's Ace GT-S5839i seems to be stuck in a bootloop after it froze when she was playing a game.
I've been trying to recover it using Odin, but I'm not having any luck. These are the steps I tried:
-Downloaded Odin v3.09
-Downloaded the stock firmware (from Sammobile.com)
-Opened Odin
-Put phone into Download Mode
-Connected phone
-Press AP, and selected the firmware file
-Press start
It then fails. This is the message list:

Take your battery out of
your phone, and again insert it and enter into
the download mode by pressing Volume
down + Home + Power button. If your phone
doesn't enters the download mode don't
worry. Connect your phone with PC by USB
cable and open the Odin V1.85 in your PC.
After opening the Odin, Now press V olume
Up + Volume Down + Power Button . Your
phone will now boot in recovery mode by
Odin. After entering into the download mode,
it asks to press Volume Up button, Press it.
Now you're in the download mode by Odin.
While, the Odin running in your PC must
have recognized in your PC. Now select the
Pit Option, and select the .pit file that you
have downloaded with the Odin .zip file .
Now extract the stock ROM file in your
desktop. Then open the Odin. Now you've
selected the .pit file, now leave the boot
loader blank. And select the "PDA " option
and select the file that is named similar to
PDA that you've extracted in the desktop.
And now select the "Phone" and select the
file that is named similar to "MODEM" . Now
select the CSC and select the file name
similar to "CSC" and select it.
Now the Part is over. Just click the Start
Button , and it will be flashing the Stock ROM
on your Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i. Wait
for 5 Minutes, once it is complete. Unplug
the USB cabel, and boot your phone
normally. It'll take 5-10 Minutes for booting
because it is now booting in a new ROM.
And that's it, your phone is now back! Your
phone has got back the Stock ROM !

Thanks for the reply. I've got a couple of questions, though.
Firstly, it's a GT-S5839i, not a 5830i, so I assume I can't use the 5380i ROM in the link you posted?
Secondly, does it specifically have to be Odin V1.85? I was using the latest version (V3.09)
Thanks.

For some reason, after running Odin, the phone would say "E:failed to mount /data (invalid argument). After a bit of researching I found some different files that seemed to work. Not sure what the difference was, but they did the trick.
Thanks for pointing me in the right way, though. I've never had to recover a phone before, so I really appreciate the help.

Noted, After opening the box ,the client wanted latest whatsapp plus a new dialup pad app. After that handset hung and rebooted in samsung i9300 only.Download mode ok but same error.
I find it really helpful of you all to just yell at someone who is trying to find an answer. I have the same problem, and I am not inexperienced with flashing phones. The question still remains: Can there be something done via Odin or adb or whatever or is it a case for repair.
I would really, really appreciate to get some useful answers. I can **** myself I don't need others to do this.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I have found a solution thanks to a very helpful friend who found the relevant post here on xda (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27995287&postcount=16). You need to flash a 3-file stock rom via Odin v3.0.4 with mx.pit-file and repartition ticked. This worked for me and I very much hope that it also works for everyone else.
With all the pit files, i m getting there is no pit file.I m still looking for 3 files firmware.
Can someone post me a link for a 3 files pda phone and csc for S3.All the files i ve found are single file.
Thanks
The only 3 part files and pit for the Samsung range have in the past been posted on Sammobile.com .You will have to look and see if they post such for SGS3 . Never seen them on XDA and 3 part files posted on XDA have in the past been from sammobile .

Go to recovery and then mounts and storage.
Format system, data and cache. Also do a factory wipe on the first cwm page.
After that pull battery wait 5 seconds abs reinsert it.
Hold power home and vol down to go to download mode. Then press the up arrow.
Then plug it in to computer. In odin select pda csc and modem or if it's a one file firmware just select it in pda. Do not tick repart or select a pit file.
Then hit start.

OMG this actually worked...
So here is what i did...step by step...
1. Uninstalled Kies but did keep the USB drivers..
2. Made a Nandroid backup in CWM and followed Drew071's instruction and removed the ext_sd card...i actually did that before but without the pull battery step...
3. Used Odin 3.07 with only auto reboot and f. time reset ticked and loaded the stock rom that i took from sammobile in PDA...
5. Flashed as usual O_O....
I really don't know what it was but it scared the s..t out of me ^^
I'll try to root the stock FW now with the usual odin method and let you know if it works...thx all for your support
EDIT: Ok so i used CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300 with Odin v3.07....all went well and i'm a happy root user again ^^

I have a very similar problem. I tried to flash a ROM on my ace-i and got stuck at the boot logo. I cant get into recovery mode. The download mode works fine so, I tried to flash the stock rom using odin but the phone is not even connecting, I think it is because I have USB debugging off on the phone. I am not sure what to do! I have attached a pic of what i have done on odin. I know the ID:COM thing should be yellow but its not! I have the USB driver also installed!
Galaxy Ace Not entering Recovery mode
guys i have a similar problem... my phone is locked for entering wrong patterns. phone goes into download mode when i press Vol UP + Vol Down + Power. but will not go into recovery mode i tried many methods mentioned on in here and in other places as well (press and hold the Home button) Yes! trust me i have been at this for the past two days.
i can flash fine. but phone is still locked. i tried flashing CWM custom recovery through Odin but it wont go beyond writing nand. as in the cwm will not get written.
any solutions??

Did that., tried a few different ones as well. downloaded them from samfirmware, still its locked.
A good day to all you fellow developers, trouble shooters and geeks from other corners
I wanted to create my account here some time now, but now it's been kind of necessary.
You see, i (lightly) bricked my phone... i like to call it "clayed".
I honestly thought i had done my research and everything went ok... until i used EZ-Unlock to unlock my bootloader.
I remember pressing the "unlock" button 3 times or so because the status above said "Unknown" while a small temporary message beneath said "Bootloader unlock: successful".
The next morning, when my phone shut down due to an empty battery (forgot to charge my phone, so no excessive drain or anything), i plugged it into the wall for battery charging.
Then it went directly in download mode, which i can't get past.
The screen ONLY consists of a plain android in front-view with underneath the text: Downloading... Do not turn off target!!"
So no extra text as within Odin mode.
However i CAN get into Odin mode and CWM recovery mode.
I think that the bootloader got corrupt in some way myself.
But what should i do?
Flash it with a new one? And what is the best way?
I don't have a recovery at hand... but i don't care if the whole storage needs to be wiped if needed.

INFO:

Thanks for reading!
Greetings
Well for a start, the international doesn't have a locked bootloader.......and that unlock app is for gs3 Verizon, which I assume does have a locked bootloader, so either you don't have an international and are in the wrong section, or, as per most posts here, you have failed to read and understand what you are doing
Thanks for the quick response.
I apparently didn't catch the parts about not having a locked bootloader, and the fact that the app is for Verizon.
My phone is the international version.
So, i know it's my fault although i really thought i knew enough while not even being close.
There is so much to rooting (and around it).
Do you, or anyone else, perhaps know what is going on with my phone from this point... and what to do about it?
Well the best bet would be to flash a stock firmware with Odin and pray like hell, what country are you in, and have you used Odin before?

Oof that doesn't sound too good.
I did use Odin (version 3.07) before to root my phone. I understand it's this desktop application which allows to flash/inject software to portable devices.
I am from the Netherlands, where i got my phone from T-Mobile.
With stock firmware, you mean like flashing my current state with the original TouchWiz ROM?
yes, then factory reset
Firstly I'd suggest downloading latest bootloader and patching it with odin even before patching anything else. You can't be sure that it's stable and won't cause any further issues after flashing.

Luckily i've got patience, so i waited a bit before taking action.
Patching the latest bootloader through odin first seems a good idea indeed.
But should i do only that and then try to reboot since everything else still is untouched...
or would it seem better to setup odin with the new bootloader AND the stock ROM all in 1 go?
I'd suggest starting with bootloader, then rebooting. Then on the second go flashing custom recovery and on the last step flashing rom but not through odin but through recovery.
You can find my guide on flashing custom recovery in my ArchiDroid topic if you wish.

Thanks so much for the help already!
I'm going to read your guide and then get to work.
I'll place the outcome here of how it went and if there were any unusual hickups along the way as feedback to potential other unfortunate tweakers like myself... although i hope other people won't be as clumsy as me.
And the last one. Flashing with odin is nearly the same but if you're flashing bootloader then download latest bootloader and place it as "Bootloader" in Odin.

Well, i've done what you specified.
And there's just a slight improvement on the bootup.
The difference with the previous experience is, that there is now a quick glimpse of the Samsung logo... but then immediately the plain download screen pops up.
I did flash a custom recovery though (Philz recovery).
I haven't tried flashing a custom ROM yet, but something tells me that that's not going to help since it's just the upper layer of everything.
Here is my Odin output:

If you've flashed bootloader and actually you CAN enter recovery (through combination vol-up+home+power) then everything is fine and don't worry. Just don't forget to clean your old system.
If however you're unable to do it then we'll try to repartition your phone using PIT file. But please firstly make sure that it's absolutely necessary.

Yes i am able to enter recovery through vol-up+home+power.
But alright, i should then go into recovery and do:
- Wipe cache partition
- Wipe Dalvic Cache (?)
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Install Zip (being the custom ROM like CyanogenMod for instance)
Firstly make sure that you have working .zip on your internal/external sdcard as it will be required.
From the recovery move to "mounts and storage" tab and click on format /system /data /cache /preload and if you have .zip on external sdcard also /sdcard.
Now you can install rom and everything should be fine.
BTW I suggest to stick with Samsung Base first, as it's proven to be stable and working. But it's up to you.
Ok, i will use the format method like you said.
I have no external sdcard so there's nothing to be done there.
One thing that's bothering me is that i should flash a new rom (Samsung's stock TouchWiz which i'm going to download) right from the recovery.
But, from how i see it, there's no way around than doing it from odin since i can't just put something onto my phone's storage like you do with the folder app inside the system.
Yeah I totally forgot that you can't connect internal sdcard with pc while being in recovery.
So basicly yes, you should flash some original soft from Samsung through Odin and eventually later put anything on your internal sdcard.
BTW it's much easier if you could find any external sdcard actually. You don't have to flash through odin then.
I had the same problem here on my galaxy s 3...
And here is what i did:
1) go to sammobile.com and download the latest firmware fot your country.
2) download odin.
3) turn your phone on and connect to your pc.
4) remember to have kies instaled (just download it from samsung's website.).
5) extract the file you donloaded from sammobile.com.
6) open odin and select PDA.
7) navigate to where you extracted the fitmware and click start.
8) thats it you are done.
It should take 4/5 minutes to complete.....
Please hit Thanks

KIES is the best bet to install phone drivers.
Ensure it is stopped in the Windows Task Manager before starting ODIN! Else it's a one way ticket to la-la-land for your phone. Good luck, mate!

Hey Guys,
I'm sure all of you get lots of these questions, however I have been trying for a couple of days to get this S3 going so I can just asking for help.
My main issue is I cannot flash any ROM's via Odin.
Here is some background infomation:
I started with a stock Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 International 16GB model.
Flashed the correct version of Cyanogen Mod for my Model/Sub Model.
I install this rom by flashing CWM (Clock Work Recovery Mod) and installing the update.zip from my external SD card.
I have done this before with other Samsung devices, No big deal, just factory rest and wipe the davik cache and flash the new ROM.
Well I decided to backup the original ROM via CWM's backup option. The backup completed fine but I backed it up to the phones internal storage instead of my External SD card. The new ROM worked fine till it ran out of space. So I selected the Delete option back in CWM to remove the backup file, rebooted the phone only to find I was still using 8 or so GB of storage.
So my phone was not happy. No room to download updates or save new pictures, etc.
This week I decided to flash the stock ROM back over the phone. For some reason the firmware was incorrect for that model or something was wrong with the phone.
After looking around I decided to flash a .pit file for the Galaxy S3, One problem, I did not know that different storage sizes of S3's have different .PIT files. However it flash and I still could not restore my phones ROM.
So after a few days of looking around I downloaded the stock ROM from Sam-Mobile.com for my phone and country and download GT-I9300_mx_20120220 PIT for for what I read and understood was for a 16GB GT-I9300.
So the new PIT file flashes fine, however I still cannot flash any new ROMS. I have tired the stock rom from Sam-Mobile or trying to flash Recovery-cwmtouch-6.0.3.2-GTI9300.tar (clock work recovery mod).
None of these flash. Odin3.04 just sits on "NAND Write Start!!" and there is a blue "downloading" bar that is across the screen and that's it.
Nothing else happens. I have also attached a screen shot of this.
I have a water damaged 16GB GT-i9300T that I have used to create a .PIT file from Heimdall, But that sits there for about 10 Min before Odin says "Unable to get pit map"
I have also tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916796
I get all the way to shorting out the resistor (R313) on the PCB but the phone does not turn on and fails to display "SD Card Mode"
So, can anyone help me?
I know it might be a long shot but at this point I'm willing to try anything. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Mitchell
Flashing just a pit file usually results in a hard brick.
You can try a rescue firmware:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087735&postcount=6&nocache=1&z=2665989794768393
But you probably need a new motherboard.
Thanks for that!, The recovery firmware failed to flash but the pit file flashed allowing me to install Cyanogen Mod.
Thanks for your help on this one :good:

For getting error when flash in Odin no matter what kind of error. Just need to flash out and repartition it for pit file and you get back yours phone back. The problem is the pit file must be suit to flash your phone. If not no matter how you flash it still the same.

Also I tried with SmartSwitch with model and serial number and so but no luck either. After that I tried to flash twrp-3.1.1-0-zerolte.img.tar but still no Recovery Mode. The device turns on, schows the logo and reboots. Always bootloop. This happened after a week of using the new software update.

6.0.1: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s6-edge/SM-G925F/PRO/download/G925FXXU4DPGZ/88414
5.1.1: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s6-edge/SM-G925F/PRO/download/G925FXXU3COI9/57688
