Android gamers & general users beware !!!
During a routine check of my Android apps & games, My security alerted me to a possible Android infection... Upon further investigation It turns out that a Trojan was packaged within the game "Stellar Escape" the full title details are "Stellar_Escape_arm6.apk"... The virus name is "Trojan.AndroidOS.Boxer.b(v)"... This is listed as high risk Remove ASAP...
I can't remember where I obtained this file from so can not assist in notifying the site owner/s of the infection... Removal was easy enough using my security's native methods... This trojan, when executed, self replicates to make removal & detection more difficult. It's actual function is not quite clear though but deemed as high risk... This is not a false positive people... Confirmed as an active threat by at least 5 reputable anti-malware sites...

My security is "Viper" (sunbelt software) A deep scan of my software store revealed the threat... Viper is particularly adept at dealing with rootkits & zeroday threats... It's removal method is needless to say a closely guarded secret...
It cleaned the .apk (extracted & deleted the bad files without damaging the original structure), & left me with a clean usable game......
Hope that helps you understand how it was dealt with...

Hi @sdotmouse...
I got the game from a site that I have previously had no issue with... The permissions were no more dodgy than the permissions of a lot of legit .apk that I have got from the market...

Hey everyone, I figured I’d start this thread as a one stop shop for anything major related to the Nook Tablet. Use it, like it, hate it… it’s up to you. I’ll add more as they come out. I’m going to put this in the General forum since it’ll contain a little bit of everything. I'll clean this up as more happens but for now, it is what it is. Oh, and if you don't like this post, go somewhere else... no need to hate in here.
General Information
Wallpaper Size is 840x1024
Press N and volDown for a screenshot
Amazon App Store will only download apps to an SD Card.
Factory reset - Turn off, turn on while holding N
Factory restore - Power down, then power up and interrupt boot cycle 10 times.
The Nook Tablet can't connect to Ad-hoc networks so if you're trying to wireless tether to your phone, go to /system/app and remove tetheringmanager.apk. Then go to Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile AP and use the stock program. I tested it with my NT and a Samsung Infuse and it works.

Redundant information. People should learn to use the search function that is in the upper right corner of the page. That is what is wrong with society today. They expect someone to hand them the answer.
Wow. The air must be thin up there on your high horse.
Sorry, but i don't agree with your position on this. Search can be very clunky and you may have to wade through pages to find what you need. And a relative noob like me needs to know WHAT to search for. I find this post to be pretty useful and I applaud the OP for taking the time to do it.
Searching is good, but I appreciate one stop shops. Good effort.

Whoa, throttle back a little hwong, he's just helping people out.
When I bought my phone last year, it had already been out for 6 months. And when I looked to learn about rooting, I was a year behind the development crowd. It took me two months to sift through 12 months of threads to gather all the relevant information.
We need a reference thread so that us little people can come along and find all the up-to-date information. You know as well as I, hopefully, that in 6 months much of this "redundant information" will be out of date information and we need a way to keep it straight.
So thank you spoland.
Uphill both ways in the snow!
Seriously, the problem with search is that it only works if you know the answer! Really.
Posts like this should be stickied. Good work.

I know a lot of the cell phone threads have them and even though we're not super far into pushing what the Nook Tablet is capable of, we'll get there eventually and this is a great starting point.

Does anyone else think it ironic that hwong96 comes to XDA to get answers that are pretty much handed to him? Did he have to do the work? No. Someone else did and he was spoon fed the answers. Yet for some reason, "Mr. Whats Wrong With The World" here feels that having a thread like this will destroy the world. Seems every single device has a thread like this. Information is fragmented. Its a good thing to have it all in on place.
Here's a suggestion. Instead of capitalizing on the world of XDA developers, figure it all out on your own. No teachers. No Schools. No books - I guess having knowledge in books will destroy the world also. Just get a device and figure it all out.

Sure you did. You were born into the world with knowledge of how Andorid works. Must have been a long flight in your space orb from planet Krypton there Indirect. I realize you rooted a NT at a B&N location. Still you had to get some understanding of Android from someplace. If you can look at a device and know exactly how to root it, then where is my unlocked bootloader, tuff guy? [and before the little indirect groupies jump all over me for daring to talk to you in such a way - humor people!]
A couple odds and ends that might be useful:
Wallpaper size is 840x1024
Press n and volDown for a screenshot.

How to sideload apps: http://liliputing.com/2011/11/how-t...ok-tablet-amazon-appstore-go-launcher-ex.html
App Manager makes it possible to add sideloaded apps to the stock app and home screens. (Someone linked to their copy here, but maybe it should be uploaded elsewhere as well.)

Unroot application is back without the issue of having another developer make it. You can just thank me this time around. But yeah, I recreated the app and now it even reboots properly.
The first post needs to be fixed. It mentions a factory restore as power off then power on + hold N. That is actually factory reset (data wipe) and is not a factory restore.
Factory restore is power down, then power up and interrupt boot cycle 10 times. This takes it back to a stock NT. I think people need to know the difference as a factory reset does not fix most problems people are having, whereas a restore does.
And, would be good to have a thread like this stickied

An unfortunate and condescending response considering that a that good part of this site is APKs redistributed or modified without permission in ROMs or for those in regions arbitrarily without access to the latest and greatest apps.
Thankfully I know how to look up modifying my build.props to get it installed, I was just hoping to avoid the hassle by finding someone helpful out there.
I guess that as is increasingly the case one will have to go and help themselves.
Off I go ...

DigitalMD’s response was the correct one. There was nothing unfortunate or condescending about it.
He went to the trouble to locate the author’s web page in an effort to help you.
As far as developers incorporating apks in their roms, all of them secure permissions before using someone else’s work

If you expect people to break rules and pirate stuff because you are too lazy, then Yeah off you go.
Impressive ...
I posted a response to the accusations to piracy and laziness, and a suggestion that maybe the reason why many users are here is to run unsupported stuff on their phone. I also stated that to suggest that all those HTC/Sony/Sammy variant ROMs are done with the full permission of the manufactures is also patently false.
My post got deleted and I have 6 months of infraction points ...
XDA really has gone down the toilet.
Anyway, the important piece of information that I posted is that DroidDia runs fine on at least two unsupported devices (Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Note) ... I extracted the APK from a Nexus One and installed directly.
Feel free to abuse me again for as long as this post remains ...
As apparently it is OK
Not that I expect this post to last much longer than the last one
Hmm.. interesting debate you guys are having in here. Here is how this is supposed to work:
MaxJavi, believe it or not, is not in fact asking for warez at all since the app is free (just restricted in its distribution due to Market's policies). Reposting the apk needs to be done with the developer's permissions but as it is not a paid app nor does it use any kind of licensing model such as Swype, it should be ok to post under our rules (of course, unless the IP owner complaints, in which case it has to be taken down).
On the other side of the coin, the answer provided to him was neither wrong, unfortunate, or condescending. It was in fact 100% correct. @MaxJavi, you were provided with the correct answer and your response to a helpful post (not too many of these around these days) was far more condescending, inflammatory, and filled with disdain than what you claim the other response was. A simple "thanks for the response" even if it would have meant for you to have to go to Google for 15 seconds to find the apk or ask the dev if you could have it would have been the correct venue. The infraction that you received was for the attitude you had towards someone simply taking the time to reply to you in a courteous manner, who even went as far as searching for the company in Google and posting a link for you to contact them.
I hope the OP doesn't mind, but I am closing this thread now as answers have been provided.
Thread closed.

Hi, I am DroidDia developer.
I don't understand your problems with APK on Android Market. I added APK on market for all devices and all regions. But, maybe I am doing something bad.

Hi,
It was solved. I disabled "protect copy" on Google Play.

The title says enough .. -_-

Warez means things that you usually are supposed to pay for but then the developer includes it in his rom making it warez. In other words, illegal. I think
Have a nice day and a nice easter ;]
PS: Next time, just make a google search
Warrez is basically illegal or pirate paid software. I remember when the rom was in its 0.1 stages months ago it contained some file exploder paid but that was a while ago.....

yeahh thanks mate ! ill try that the next time
I'm guessing it was because of Root Explorer that was pre-packaged in 1.1.
Just a guess, but feels probable.
lucky for me I found somewhere else to get it while all the links were being deleted.
but yeah warez is bad ummkay. dont download warez ummkay.
Yeah, actually Westcrip has included Root Explorer 2.19 "Cracked by Market Militia" in his latest rom.
The icon gave it right away, since i'm using it and it doesnt look like a red hat icon.
It's a shame he did that mistake, considering it's not his first rom.
I do believe it's something he uses on his own roms, but cleans when releasing.
I reallly hope he's gonna be able to fix it with XDA, i'm tired of losing developers (first a Kernel guy from phoenix-tweaks, now this...)
EDIT : Westcrip twitter says he's fixing it, "Thread will be active in an hour"
So guess it was a private rom mistakenly released for public use ^^

Just flash the ROM zip and you're good to go.
Just delete this Thread. I've no source code. Actually I cannot find it too, actual kernel source. Only Companies own it and it's called GPL-GNU and Open source.
Look at the logo of GNU carefully, you find it miserable, there is no sign of humanity and who are behind that are miserable persons suffering from Miserables. Oh god! Have mercy on them, make them conscious, so that they can understand their situation and got some improvements.
In this world the fun is that, it's declared that we have basic human rights but in actuality we don't, we're just the slave.
Tantra says it 'how to use it and you get it'. You just need to know the ways, rules of nature and you get the benefits.
Why I said nature, human is not the part of nature, hell yeah! He should be supernatural but he has been degraded to unnatural. Even in the association of human some animals become unnatural or the victim of human, is the sign.
Great rom! Using it for some days, all seems great but Adaptive brightness (keep it off) and Play protect certification cant get rid of "device is not certified". Google really screwed us...
Really and even this forum is supporting them and making them strong, if they will be in existence then this forum has value, otherwise it's going to loose it's value and the proof is the moderator has changed the forum rules. They have control over it, it's not a community, it's something else.
I'm not ganna post anything here anymore, if they want to delete my account they can do so. Because I knew the truth and only truth has value for me, what I knew.
In fact I have Android 1.0 to 5.0 in a DVD and in laptop latest stable. I was using them on PC, at that time no one was asking Android, only java and symbian cellphones were in tread, this forum didn't exist. Then google took Android in hand and brought it to the next level and made it available to everyone. These professionals are expert in it, so we need to follow them. If google has made some rules and if we need their service.
And about developers, actually I don't know, so I don't wanna talk about them, but we need the professional one. As I can see developers are at their place bragging about their erudition and professionals are benefitting us because they are getting paid, so they're honest.
