I need a new ROM and have not been keeping up to date. The only requirements are decent battery life and some kind of wireless tethering. Running BAM REMIX 1.8 and need something 150% stable, what do yall recommend?
I have been using Skyraider 1.3 its been superb
Might want to check out the InfectedROM.
I'm running InfectedROM Eternity, r179. Slick and fast.

thunderstick. stable mostly stock with speed tweaks. built in cpu settings (custom kernel)
I'm using the thunderbolt synergy mod I know I went from the thunder stick mod I'm enjoying synergy mod more than thunderstick

If your looking for stability, I haven't used one more stable than BAMF Side Project (non ADR version). It's close to stock, debloated, slightly custom kernel and Sense 2.1
Another vote for SkyRaider. Only applies if you want to stick with Sense though.
Thanks everyone, I personally don't mind Sense. I use a ton of their widgets and like many, have always been pretty fond of the clock. I'll have to look that one up, many thanks.
Skyraider works great except for the occasional call answer bug. All of the sense hybrid roms are having this issue where when you have an incoming call there is no answer button. Happens maybe 25% of the time. So you are force to deny call and then call the person back. Other than that, it is an excellent ROM. Fast and efficient. The battery life is very good with nearly 20 hours of up time.
ShiftS3NS3 1.5 by DroidTh3ory is ROCK SOLID ....
not sure where to find it anymore. Tried the later version (2.x), but it would crash on me. I have never seen a ROM less bug free than SS 1.5 (hell, my wife uses it). I think I get a FC rarely, and I go weeks without rebooting. WIFI tethering works fine (or maybe i downloaded it from the market), i use it all the time.

That is easily fixed with the built in skyraider settings and a build prop edit if you want it to stick after a reboot.

Please enlighten me. So far I've yet to see a confirmed fix for this issue. Happens on BAMF, Gingeritis, Skyraider, and every other sense 2.1/3.0 hybrid ROM what are based on the later firmware builds. If you have the fix, please point me to it.
Thank,
Nathan
On SkyRaider, you can force it to use the Sense 2.1 answer screen. The issue is in Sense 3.0, which SR uses some pieces of.
It's explained in the 1st post of it's thread at Team Bamf, under the v1.3 section.
I use it... I got the bug a couple of times before I made the fix permanent and it went away 100%. I reflashed 2 days ago to remove a theme and it reverted my change and ... I ran into the bug twice in past two days. Need to fix it again.

It seemed like SR might of been a BAMF build, glad to hear it is, I've always like BAMF.
Can anyone confirm if wired headsets work with that ROM or does HTC still mute the mic, etc? Just posted another question in the general, really surprised this hasn't bothered anyone else..
Thank you. Actually I know about this option in skyraider settings, but from what I've read it, the issue occurs with the 2.1 answer screen as well. I will try it out. Maybe on SkyRaider it really does solve the issue.
Thanks,
Nathan

The only time I've seen this is when you do not change the build prop. You must change the build prop for the 2.1 answer screen to stick after a reboot. (instructions on how to do this are on the BAMF forum shortly after the 1.3 release) On the Forever ROM they have a 2.1 answer screen that you can flash. It has always worked for me. Gingeritis wants you to install the shake to answer app from the market, instead of fixing the problem in the manner that Team BAMF has. The fixes on the BAMF ROMs have worked for me and I have yet to see the fixes not work. I have read every post in the SkyRaider, Forever, SoaB, threads. I can not vouch for the app working on the Gingeritis as I considered if they didn't fix the problem they didn't care enough. So I dumped the ROM. I did like the ROM but if they didn't care enough to fix it. I didn't care enough to keep it.
Skyraider is my daily driver.cm7 protekk is my backup. Flip back n forth for different reasons.

Which ROM should meet these requirements:
1. Will get a GPS fix quickly every time.
2. Good battery life.
3. Fast 4G LTE.
4. Market works fully.
5. Relatively bug free.
6. Still supported by developer.
7. Has decent install instructions - I have not installed a ROM on the Thunderbolt yet, and compared to my OGD, it seems more complex (e.g., flash a radio separately).
8. As little Sense as possible. (None would be ideal.)
9. USB tethering is rock solid reliable.
10. Gingerbread 2.3.4 (so Google Talk video works)
I initially wanted an AOSP ROM, but it seems like Sense-based ROM are working better. Is this true?
I just rooted and I want to install a custom ROM right now. Waiting impatiently for responses. hehe

It says, "An work in progress to bring working 4G to Gingerbread AOSP. Only available for Froyo MR1 radio."
That doesn't sound good to me... however, I admit that I don't know the details about the radios. I just assumed MR2 or MR2.5 would be an improvement. I'm not very happy with the stock Froyo radio (or GPS or battery life or anything else really).
Th3ory roms have been my favorite since his introduction, everything you're looking for. Try out the tester coming tonight, or wait a day for the release. Rediculous amount of dev support.

Thank you. I've been reading a lot of different threads and I was getting the impression that Th3ory roms are really good and the support is great.
What about INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01 (SenseLESS)?
Regarding "the tester coming tonight" are you talking about this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186218
I was concerned about the market problems discussed in that thread. I know there are two different resolutions for market problems, but I got the feeling that this tester ROM is too bleeding edge for my first Thunderbolt ROM.
In reference to my list of important features in the OP, what advantages does the tester ROM have over INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01?
I'll go ahead and put in my 2 cents and suggest CM7.

Be sure that you flash the MR2 OTA radio and you'll be fine and dandy.

So if I flash the MR2 radio, I don't have to worry about the CM7 4G problems mentioned in various places such as this?

EDIT: ooops, the known issues listed rule this ROM out for me:
**Known Issues**
-Possible Data/Voice bugs and issues.
-gps slow to get locks
Looks like INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01 is still the favorite.
I just installed INJ3CT3DTH3ORY V6.01.

haha yes! sorry for the typo. i'd suggest going ahead and flashing those other 2 ROMs when you get the chance to whether you like injectedtheory or not. one might suit your preferences more than another.
I was just making fun of threads like this in another post.
I've read these threads, tried most of them people swear by, didn't like most of them... And I'm back to my daily driver as usual. Every ROM has it's quirks. It's just a matter of what you're going to tolerate. Frankly, I don't know how people stand AOSP. My girlfriend loves it and I hate even touching that phone now. I've got this sexy 3D ROM that flows like water and it's literally 4.5 times the size. I'm just saying that if I posted this exact same thread, I'd find every single answer pretty much useless. Whatever you do, don't do a nightly.

The answers were not useless at all. The conversation helped me. But you notice that I didn't just ask a generic question. In the OP listed specific features that were important to me.
BTW, I only like ASOP ROMS as a rule, but I learned from this forum that Sense-based ROMs give less trouble on the Thunderbolt. If that wasn't true I would have stuck totally to ASOP.
Inject is great, and I do believe satisfies all of your bullets, except for dev support.

Thanks for that feedback. It was one of the first ROMs I looked at and I initially rejected it because Th3ory had moved on the the tester ROM and I do value active dev support.
But the potential market issues with tester10 concerned me more. So I came back to Inject. It's nice to hear your confirmation that it will probably satisfy most of my bullet points.

Like any other question of this sort your gonna get some varied answers. My pick is GSB by workshed. That's what i've been running for a while now.
My reasons are:
- #1 It runs fast (even faster if coupled with the SuperCharger, 3G & Kernel tweaks by Zeppelinrox)
- Launcherpro, which it contains, is a great launcher! Quick & customizable
- v3.8 has been very stable
- Everything works (maps issue is not a GSB issue btw)
It is, sadly, no longer being developed though so v3.8 is it unless someone else picks up where workshed left off.
gersto is right!
I really like Marcodroids MR8 then I use Zeam as a launcher. You might try it. Use Titanium Backup - Pro recommended and flash several of these. I'm not into Sense ROMs as they bog my little ERIS. Macrodroid also has another ROM EverVolv you might look at.
Good luck! Bottom line is "Flash and Find out"
D
I have tried them all..and for me CS by far has the best ROM. It's stable, fast and has a small footprint ..he has created a stripped down version which has really done wonders for my phone.. All of the developers are great ..don't get me wrong. Just use their roms and if you don't like it, use another. Just don't go and flame the person..They do this for all of us and for them as well.Hope this helps.
Tazz AOSP.....Fastest Rom out here. CS rom is right behind it though!!!!
Best GB rom which i like,
gsb, cm7, omgb pure gingerbread.
All are best check it yourself, and which one suits best for you.
I have tried all the GB ROMs and I always come back to TAZZ AOSP. It is fast and smooth. It runs really well with no problems. No flash, just a really solid ROM.
I prefer v5 for some reason, but I just noticed that Tazz is working on a v7 and needs testers.
Condemned's CM7 rom is my favorite. Its the rom I have had the best luck with but Tazz's rom's are really good too.

Flashed AOSP-Gin-Tazz last night and am happy so far. Will give Condemned Soul a try next.
I've tried evervolve, CondemnedSoul, and GSB and they all have their quirks. All run really good though and the devs are very responsive. My favorite though is GSB. I've ran every version since 3.2 and I always come back to it. It's the most responsive and most stable for me.

For those of you who have used both of these outstanding ROMs on your MoPho, which one do you prefer and why?
Both are great ROMs. I am currently on cm7. I am really liking cm7. Its fast and battery life is outstanding. Downside to cm7 is you do need to edit build.prop to get youtube working. Also have to edit apn to get mms working. Fixes are easy to do though.

i agree with above. both are great and will wake up your photon like no other. when it was all said and done, i picked CM7 bc thats what i ran on my EVO and was just more comfortable with it. personal preference really. neither will let you down.
I'd personally go with skinnyrev1. But I've been running CM7 for a long time on my evo shift and got bored with it. But if you have never ran CM7 before on any of your devices then its worth a try. But for the photon I'd go with skinnyrev1.

Really? I haven't really seen anything other than the Alpha builds. Everything works? The Evo worked great (minus 4g, but I don't live in a 4g area anyway). I can only imagine how fast it is. My Photon runs only a little faster than my CM7 evo.
Which build are you guys running?
I am loving life on my CM7 ROM. Not a big fan of Motoblur, so wanted to try something new. To be honest though...this is my only ONLY ROM that I have tried so can't offer anything new to the conversation other than I have had few problems from it. On reboot, I get a single phone.apt error that once dismissed, doesn't bother me again. The MMS issue is NOT an issue on mine...I send and receive picturemail daily and have not had any issues with that. I wish the built in buttons for the zoom on the camera app worked, but they don't...yet. Have to use the apps slider to control zoom. The Wifi is qwerky at times. I sometimes have to FORGET a known network, turn off Wifi, turn it back on...then reenter login info's to get a reconnection on a previously working wifi accesspoint that I use...but...just a minor annoyance. Considering it is still technically in alpha...it is very usable and stable...I say go for it!

I havent had any issues with wifi, got work, home, parents home, and two friends houses in college station. 5 networks total. is it the same router that you are experiencing this trouble or is it the same across all routers?
but to anyone that is in question between the two, dont base ur selection off others, its gonna boil down to your preference. its gonna be 50/50 based on reviews. best thing you can do is flash one and play around with it, then make a backup, flash the second one and see if you like it better or not. Still make a backup of the second in case you want to move back again. Thats the great thing about Android, its your choice
since you have it narrowed down between just these two, youre in a good situation. alot better then flashin all day to see what you like the best.

I've been pretty happy with SkinnyRev1 as a daily driver. I'm currently on CM7 testing the new 1.3OC. My phone hates the 1.4 kernels for some reason and on CM7, even with the modfied APN mms is very sketchy. I can send just fine but when I receive a message, that message gets repeated over and over again every couple of hours (sometimes minutes) until I get sick of it and restore my Skinny nandroid.
I've had it happen with several versions of this alpha and cannot seem to get it to stop once it happens. Deleting the thread does nothing, I just get a notification a little later that I have a new message. I've even gone from several of the yay leaked sbfs straight to CM7, skipping skinny altogether and still have the same mms issue
Well I haven't tried skinny rom but cm7 is awesome very stable been my daily driver for about 2 weeks and love it. Very smooth and fast. I'm actually proof the ICS Phone Bricker 2.0.1 on may Samsung Galaxy SGH I777 and this is what i found on it:
1.-When i use the Talk app and somebody write to me it make a weird sound again....and again....and again......
2.- I must make around 15 wipes and go back to the factory kernel and root again my cellphone and over 3 hours or more left i make my phone works with my service provider because in ever install of this rom not works.
3.- Going crazy trying to recognize SD card on my PC.
4.- Lag buttons
5.- apk's like Android Overclock, or Chainfire 3D Pro Crashes if u reboot your phone.
6.- Takes a lot of time to sync with my Wireless Access Point.
7.- Some native functions on Setting not works.
Please comment your experiences about this ROMs.
Was on the rooted leaked ROM posted by task but I just restored back to UnNamed 2.2.1 after a couple of days. It bugged me that I was not able to view battery stats and contacts tab was missing in the dialer. I hated the wifi bug of it not being able to reconnect automatically.
I really liked that the stock messaging app did not show mms as slide show and I loved the pattern lockscreen (clock, brighter wallpaper and smaller dots). Never did get the weather to show on there though.
For me UnNamed works better. Might try out SHOstock this weekend if I am not too busy.

We have the i9100 source already and the only real benefit from i777 leaks could be NFC if it were included. Ultimatum is a good ICS ROM which will be rebased soon. Phone Bricker is also good I don't know what the OP is doing wrong. Most of it is just waiting for better i9100 firmware to be released along with allowing time for our current kernels to mature a bit.

2.- I must make around 15 wipes and go back to the factory kernel and root again my cellphone and over 3 hours or more left i make my phone works with my service provider because in ever install of this rom not works.
Did you try different modems?
Nobody else is having this issue as of yet.
3.- Going crazy trying to recognize SD card on my PC.
ICS changed how USB storage works, hope you know that.
4.- Lag buttons
Seriously? These are early stages and every build and kernel update makes things better.
5.- apk's like Android Overclock, or Chainfire 3D Pro Crashes if u reboot your phone.
Overclocking/volt changing does not work properly, its in development by the kernel devs (PLEASE DON'T BOTHER THEM)
6.- Takes a lot of time to sync with my Wireless Access Point.
Haven't heard of this problem before.
7.- Some native functions on Setting not works.
I removed a good amount of bloat, but only things that don't work is the "track me" settings as I don't care for it.
If you want it I could have sent you the apks but nobody has requested for it in my thread.
Please comment your experiences about this ROMs.

Oh good Lord. Not only do we have like 2 dedicated ICS threads, this thread serves ABSOLUTELY no purpose. Im not going to allow threads to be started to bash Dev's hard work (THAT STILL IN PROGRESS I might add) and to just whine. If you dont like ICS, then downgrade back to GB. No need to start a thread about it.
Thread closed.
This is based on the ROM joelZ9614 posted on June 27th.
It's deodexed and stripped of most Verizon apps and some HTC apps while keeping Sense.
This is different than the original release I had planned. This is close to the version I use since joelsZ9614's is coming.
This is PURE HTC stock. There's no themes, no EQS and little tweaks.
Xposed installer is included, use the MoDoCo ToolKit and other XPosed apps to make some of the usual mods.
Everything is working(?) but Zoe and Panoramic sweep.
This is VERIZON ONLY. It's been reported that MMS does not work with GSM.
Here's a few flashable additions: to the ROM:
HTC Music
HTC Calender
xLOUD
There's is now some tweaks included that I've tested but my init.d didn't make all the changes.
Recommend Trickster Mod Settings are:
Read Ahead Buffer Size: 384 (seems high but benchmarks the highest)
Deadline
fifo_batch: 8
front_merges: 1
read_expire: 30
write_expire: 250
writes_starved: 1
Conservative
down_threshold: 30
freq_step: 25
sampling_down_factor: 5
up_threshold: 60
Multicore Power Saving: 2
ALL thanks go to joelZ9614 for the ROM, crpalmer for the kernel, and zepplinrox for the supercharging.

*There's been some cleaning inside the ROM. A wipe is NOT necessary, but if coming from the first ROM I posted, but I'd recommend formatting /system.
*This version also has less apps stripped since people seem to like apps I don't use.

More vaporware for the DNA!
It's a stripped version of the ROM Joel posted last week.
I deodexed, and got it to flash. His is coming soon so I pulled the link. If he gives permission I'll gladly post
for people wanting to give it a go.
Verizon and a lot of HTC apps are removed while still keeping Sense.
Mirrors or hosting will be helpful before hand.

All credit goes to joelZ9614 and crpalmer. They've done the work and it's hard.
This is PURE HTC stock. Been using this for a couple days, everything is working but Zoe and Panoramic sweep.
Xposed installer is included, the MoDoCo ToolKit takes care of some of the usual mods.
With all that said here's the link: http://goo.gl/akLyz
If you like it and can mirror please do as i'm not a developer and this is the best hosting I could come up with without ads.
This has been a learning experience.
Developers should get more credit than they get. This stuff is hard, and even uploading is major hassle.

It's basically Sense 5 rom, nothing out of the ordinary, you can look at any other sense 5 rom's screen shot - it would be the same
What about smoothness and responsiveness? I can't use newt's sense 5 rom because it makes my phone feel extremely clunky..
Apparently I can't post a link. Don't know if I could put images in.
But as nimrodsv said it's pure. No theming at all.
I had no problem with newtoroot's ROM being laggy.
But it's been running well for me without any kernel tweaking yet.

I had the same feelings until I used Beaups kernel. No issues now. Actually running very smooth and excellent battery life.

I keep seeing posts where people say that the newt Rom is laggy. Ive been running it for about 2 weeks now and just flashed beaups kernal the other day but even before flashing that kernal I had zero issues with lag. In fact, I have not had a single issue at all since flashing this Rom. That's pre beaups kernal and post. Did I just get lucky somehow with a fluke flash that turned out to be beneficial? Am I the only person that has not experienced any lag?

Every phone is different. My phone hates overlclocking. If I run my phone over 1600 it reboots. No matter what kernel it is. So, maybe it is laggy on his phone.

Don't try the Tablet ui . Obviously Sense lacks a tablet ui and bad things happen.

This is the truth.. We all have the same hardware.. but there could be very subtle differences in something that could cause some of us to lag and others not.. Ran into the same issues when I had my Incredible 2 .. I was flawless with every rom, 99% of the time.. others weren't.. Just the way she goes..
at production, the CPU of the phone was labeled based on processing tolerances. there is slow, nominal, fast, and faster. each one reacts differently to OC and UV ect
My mobile network is saying disconnected after setup I can't seem to get it on even tryed wiping and reflashing any suggestions?

Tried that. Also full wipe and clean install and still nothing. Never had this issue before.
