[ROM][JULY 4th] M7 [(Almost) Pure 1.29.401.16][VERIZON] - HTC Droid DNA

This is based on the ROM joelZ9614 posted on June 27th.
It's deodexed and stripped of most Verizon apps and some HTC apps while keeping Sense.
This is different than the original release I had planned. This is close to the version I use since joelsZ9614's is coming.
This is PURE HTC stock. There's no themes, no EQS and little tweaks.
Xposed installer is included, use the MoDoCo ToolKit and other XPosed apps to make some of the usual mods.
Everything is working(?) but Zoe and Panoramic sweep.
This is VERIZON ONLY. It's been reported that MMS does not work with GSM.
Here's a few flashable additions: to the ROM:
HTC Music
HTC Calender
xLOUD
There's is now some tweaks included that I've tested but my init.d didn't make all the changes.
Recommend Trickster Mod Settings are:
Read Ahead Buffer Size: 384 (seems high but benchmarks the highest)
Deadline
fifo_batch: 8
front_merges: 1
read_expire: 30
write_expire: 250
writes_starved: 1
Conservative
down_threshold: 30
freq_step: 25
sampling_down_factor: 5
up_threshold: 60
Multicore Power Saving: 2
ALL thanks go to joelZ9614 for the ROM, crpalmer for the kernel, and zepplinrox for the supercharging.

md5: d9dc74de1ed3d78005391166562ee655
*There's been some cleaning inside the ROM. A wipe is NOT necessary, but if coming from the first ROM I posted, but I'd recommend formatting /system.
*This version also has less apps stripped since people seem to like apps I don't use.

More vaporware for the DNA!

It's a stripped version of the ROM Joel posted last week.
I deodexed, and got it to flash. His is coming soon so I pulled the link. If he gives permission I'll gladly post
for people wanting to give it a go.
Verizon and a lot of HTC apps are removed while still keeping Sense.
Mirrors or hosting will be helpful before hand.

All credit goes to joelZ9614 and crpalmer. They've done the work and it's hard.

With all that said here's the link: http://goo.gl/akLyz
If you like it and can mirror please do as i'm not a developer and this is the best hosting I could come up with without ads.
This has been a learning experience.
Developers should get more credit than they get. This stuff is hard, and even uploading is major hassle.

It's basically Sense 5 rom, nothing out of the ordinary, you can look at any other sense 5 rom's screen shot - it would be the same

What about smoothness and responsiveness? I can't use newt's sense 5 rom because it makes my phone feel extremely clunky..

Apparently I can't post a link. Don't know if I could put images in.
But as nimrodsv said it's pure. No theming at all.
I had no problem with newtoroot's ROM being laggy.
But it's been running well for me without any kernel tweaking yet.

I had the same feelings until I used Beaups kernel. No issues now. Actually running very smooth and excellent battery life.

I keep seeing posts where people say that the newt Rom is laggy. Ive been running it for about 2 weeks now and just flashed beaups kernal the other day but even before flashing that kernal I had zero issues with lag. In fact, I have not had a single issue at all since flashing this Rom. That's pre beaups kernal and post. Did I just get lucky somehow with a fluke flash that turned out to be beneficial? Am I the only person that has not experienced any lag?

Every phone is different. My phone hates overlclocking. If I run my phone over 1600 it reboots. No matter what kernel it is. So, maybe it is laggy on his phone.

Don't try the Tablet ui . Obviously Sense lacks a tablet ui and bad things happen.

This is the truth.. We all have the same hardware.. but there could be very subtle differences in something that could cause some of us to lag and others not.. Ran into the same issues when I had my Incredible 2 .. I was flawless with every rom, 99% of the time.. others weren't.. Just the way she goes..

at production, the CPU of the phone was labeled based on processing tolerances. there is slow, nominal, fast, and faster. each one reacts differently to OC and UV ect

Is your ROM stable enough?

To go 2+ days without freezing and/or randomly rebooting?
Lol huh? I don't have this problem ever...
So far:
Deck ROM: yes, could go weeks without rebooting.
CleanROM: yes, only had it about 2 days but no problems
Synergy: no, tried every kernel and it wouldnt go more than about 12 hours without a hard crash.
About all I've tried at length

Nope. And it always screws up when I need it the most.

My personal ROM has actually never needed a reboot or crashed.
Via My HTC Evo 3D On The Now Network From Sprint.
Every ROM I've ran except some of myn's nightlies were completely stable.
Synergy - very stable
Cyanogenmod - seems to be the stablest
InfectedROM - Kind of stable
Myn's 2.3 - Not really stable, but these are experimental nightly builds we have
If it reboots randomly and freezes a lot, there is most likely too many apps running or similar stuff that is causing that. I use my phone heavily and have never experienced reboots/freezes/shutoffs.
Steelh never had an issue works for days before reboot just to clean up
Gotcha, nice replies guys.
I refuse to run ROMs with several broken things, aside from AOSP, which is understandable.
Cm7 on airplane mode. No service so im good with wifi. 3D movies. ONLY reboot I ever had was adding 2000 songs to my sdcard. Phone couldnt handle it for 10 minutes. Then it scanned properly and good to go again.
Whooo! (Cole Voice...)
Basically, the reason I'm asking is because virtually every single frequently updated Sense ROM in the development section is full of issues people are having. I'm trying to understand why they are so popular if they are riddled with issues every other update. Do people not enjoy stable phones? I've been running the same ROM since July and to this day there isn't a single 'new' feature that has been implemented in ROMs these days that I don't want. If there happens to be one, it doesn't need a full flash.
My question is: Why are so many people using Sense ROMs that have nothing but issues and stuff that doesn't work properly? Since HTC has already provided a fairly solid foundation with the Stock ROM, how are so many Sense ROMs broken?
If the answer is aesthetics and looks, why not take a stable ROM, and work from there to get the look you want?
I'm also trying to understand the mind of a "Flashaholic" and besides AOSP or MIUI, there doesn't seem to be enough differences between these Sense ROMs other than kernels and random fiddling with the framework that really differentiate them. For a person that understands how ROMs work and can easily determine the core differences between them, I can tell you exactly what differences that ROM A has from ROM B, and yet, the user opinion is much wider.
Take for instance ROM A, which has a cute tagline in its title and is made by a 'veteran' so to speak. The changelog and file-by-file difference between that and ROM B, made by a seemingly unknown person are pretty small, but the audience seems to think ROM A is much more 'stable' and 'fast' than ROM B.
Aside from messing with the framework, I have done side-by-side comparisons of where most of the ROMs features claim to shine--its tweaks to memory, ram usage, cpu, kernel, etc; which reside mostly in the /system/etc folder and under build.prop and the differences are so small and most of the tweaks are identical. With that said, framework 'tweaks' make a minimal difference in every day situations and most phones will perform almost identical to the Stock ROM. The real differences lie in random build.prop tweaks and init.d scripts which mostly come from poorly documented sites and sources that were meant for Desktop computers and/or older phones like the G1 and can actually have a negative effect on our current phone's performance. I'm sure HTC has done enough research that their method of ROM delivery is probably optimal for most people.
At any rate, I'm interested in more discussion from the people in this thread.
Id like to try your dualcore mod with 1st core at 700mhz and 2nd core at 500mhz. Can you make the file for me? But is it possible to get a screen off profile with it?
Whooo! (Cole Voice...)
I have flashed before due to aesthetics but now I'm on a hunt for a smoother (stutter free) rom. I also like having extra settings that some offer like synergys, and Eternity, and having beats is a plus although not necessary. The closest I've gotten is Eternity 1.3.1 w/stock look along with Tiamat sense 1.0.3 kernel and flashable script by Smokin. Smokins script made a difference in smoothness for me specially in the app drawer. The only issue that plagues my phone is intermittent black screen during calls.
Other reason I flash is sometimes I get tired of things and want something new to play with. Makes me feel I have a new device.

That I can understand, but with the differences between Sense ROMs being so small, why? I suppose looks is a good enough reason as any, especially if you don't know how or feel like trying to extract the apks or images needed to make your current ROM look like the ROM you're installing.

I flash roms to have wireless tether mainly. Recently i like using sprint hotspot and it ia easier to flash a modified stock rom instead of tracking down the flashable hack. Other than staying up to date with software without breaking root, i dont see a reason not to be stock rooted. I buy htc for sense so aosp roms just arent for me. Im running infected eternity 1.4.1 and love the themed look just because it seperatea me from the rest if the world, if i wanted to fit a mold i would be rocking that girly iphone.

First time I've heard anyone claim synergy is stable. Even the synergy devs have given up trying to get non stock kernels to run reliably with it and have recommended limping along by flashing the stock kernel over the included one until the ROM can be fixed.
As to why so many problems: I think half of it is kernel compatibility and half is in the baking. Some bake in the latest version of this or that apk that hasn't been thoroughly tested. Market 3.2 is a good example. Doesn't work: can't buy paid apps. Same problems occur with other apps like all the borked superuser updates between 3.0.2 and 3.0.6. So with all the pushing to include the latest versions of every low level app baked into the ROM, of course there will be some mismatches.
Not a fan of AOSP ROMs. Most of those don't have 20% of the stuff working like 4g, 3d camera, and other stuff. Most say right at the top, "dont expect this to work... Or that to work". No thanks.

Energy vs Revolution

Has anyone tried both of these ROMs on the Amaze? I've read all 46 pages of the Revolution forum and several Energy. Both look like they meet my needs. But I'd like a good comparison between them.
My needs:
- Close to stock feel/look (like the blue themes)
- Ability to remove pre-installed apps/bloatware
- Wi-fi calling (must have due to my location)
- Better battery life
- A bit snappier
- Free tethering would be a bonus
I've read that some have experienced texting and mms sending issues with Energy and some say that Revolution is outdated.
I realize YMMV, but I'd appreciate a comparison between the 2. Thanks.

I'm loving Revolution right now... And I ran Energy since the day it came out.
It has the stock feel and way easier to customise. It feels better than the stock Rom I just came from.
They're both easy to debloat and deodexed.
I use my phone so much that I get roughly the same battery life on both.
Both ROMs are very fast and snappy.
I would recommend both... But I'm preferring ARHD right now.
MrMako777 points out a good point though in another threas. ARHD is 1.36 build so no WiFi calling, so if u need that, then Energy would be better (although I prefer stock rooted over energy)

Hmmm. That's a little confusing. On the Revolution Thread, it says that there is "improved wi-fi calling" (from Post #1, ARHD 1.1.0 release date 19 Nov 11). Maybe since I need to have wi-fi calling, I should go with Energy.
Have you had the opportunity to test wi-fi calling with either one? Any issues (notably, the sending problems with Energy or the lack of capability with ARHD)?
Thanks again!
Sorry... Revolution is identical to stock as far as UI look... It is built on 1.36 which the stock 1.36 didn't have WiFi calling. I haven't tested it on revolution, but WiFi calling does work on Energy ROM. There's also a modified messaging apk that fixes a time stamp issue with texts.

xboarders sense 3.5 rc1.7, great rom (my DD) it's fast, stable, and had great tweaks. though it doesn't leave much room for themes, as m10tools for 3.5 was never well adopted.
for stock 3.0 with a ton of mods i recommend bulletproof 2.5, if ARHD had a current version that would be my go-to as mike1986 is a solid dev.
Good to hear about u liking blue... U will prolly be best off with NRG ROM.
I like the 3.5 (its called Sense 3.5 RC1.7) for it has 3.5 features compared to 3.0... I mainly like the snappiness and loon myself.
Here's what I do. I flash a ROM using 4ext. I backup its stock load. Then I customize. After I have it the way I want and am sure its running stable after I modify it, I do a another backup and delete the old backup. Then I format all partitions (except sd) in the recovery's wipe menu and flash the next ROM... And repeat

Well, this phone was really easy to unlock/root. The custom recovery has a lot of interesting options--I see how easy it is now to switch between ROMs when you get bored with one!
For those that are lurking and may be intested in my experience (b/c you'd like to try something like this):
- The "How To Root HTC Ruby" was very helpful. for the overall rooting process Post #2 was a bit confusing (I think there are some links missing). I basically went to the HTCDev website, registered, and followed the unlock instructions on the site.
- I used the Clockword Mod custom recovery (as opposed to what was suggested in the above post). A good thing to note is that when installing a ROM it says to do a reset/wipe, the author generally means through the recovery, not the device (I ended up doing both since I didn't know about the option in the recovery).
- Once the recovery is in place, adding the ROM is as simple as downloading the ZIP, copying it to SDcard, rebooting to recovery, and loading the ZIP. If I can do it, just about anyone else can, too!
- After installing the Energy ROM, I could not get the WiFi to work. Rather than read hundreds of posts, I did a search on that thread and found an updated kernel in Post #4. Followed the specific instructions and problem solved.
Now that I have been running this for a couple of days, only a few things that I don't like:
- Random reboots. Though I did have them on stock, they appear more often now.
- The HTC Trace keyboard acts much differently than on stock. For example, when swiping some letters, words I've never used pop up and choices that I expect don't appear. I presume it's because NRG customized it for himself.
- It is REALLLY blue. If you don't like blue, this is not the ROM for you! (Did not mean to rhyme that but if works.) Blue is my favorite color so I don't mind it that much. But because of the way he has themed it, some screens appear much darker than they should. Also, within the tray, there is no distincition between background apps (like WiFi calling, JuiceDefender, etc) and Notifications (package updates, email updates, etc) because the theme is so dark.
Overall, now that I've "got my feet wet" with this ROM, I may actually look at others. But this was a great place to start.
I got no reboots with Energy ROM. I've never gotten a reboot (unless I was testing something in alpha/beta stages) on this phone. And if u used 4ext recovery, you wouldn't have had the broken WiFi because you don't have to flash the kernel separately.

I may try another ROM and see if that helps but I doubt it will.

Need Testers - Hopefully Better Multitasking (Flashable Zip Inside)

first thing, this wont brick your device (0% chance)
what i have done is patched the services.jar to allow more apps to stay in memory (up to 8 i think)
ive been using it and so far my browser have not reloaded once, only when i load up over 8 apps at the same time
this means your phone will have less available memory, but its being put to good use, since its not being used anyway lol
the main change ive noticed so far is improvement in the browser, way less reloads.
i need a couple people to flash this and report your findings
it also makes your phone UI a bit faster as well. lemme know. maybe its a placebo for me, which i hope im wrong
flash away

Another note is Mikey mentioned he fixed MeanROM on the previous base to have a higher OOM priority (lower number) for the browser, gapps, and other stuff so they wouldn't get killed so easily.
Any thoughts on doing the same thing also? I have no idea if Auto Memory Manager works on ICS, that allows you to modify the OOM priority for specific apps.

first thing, this wont brick your device (0% chance)
what i have done is patched the services.jar to allow more apps to stay in memory (up to 8 i think)
ive been using it and so far my browser have not reloaded once, only when i load up over 8 apps at the same time
this means your phone will have less available memory, but its being put to good use, since its not being used anyway lol
the main change ive noticed so far is improvement in the browser, way less reloads.
i need a couple people to flash this and report your findings
it also makes your phone UI a bit faster as well. lemme know. maybe its a placebo for me, which i hope im wrong
flash away

Yo flex, i'm flashing now.. and will report back :good:
Doesn't seem to be working for me,a lot of my apps reloaded when jumping around. Running stock w/ goodies 2.02

Under developer options I have standard number of background options selected, which one do you guys have it set too?

Is there and newer roms that don't use Sense?

So I was using that twisted build but always have issues with something and the longer I run it, it just starts going haywire. Seems all the newer roms that are more active are sense based and I cannot for the life of me get used to that terrible UI. I hate everything about it.
I'd like just stock ICS, so what's out there? Thanks guys :silly:

You will need to register an account to view this forum. However he has a very good non-sense rom that runs fast and is completely stable. Just make sure you update to the newest radios and read the instructions.
weird, I thought I looked at all of his roms and they all had Sense UI, Thanks man!
It has most of the sense elements removed but it is still sense-based (if I understand correctly)
You could also try santod's misenseless rom. It's desensed, uses milauncher, and has some miui theming.

this is more of a Question then development, Mods can we get this moved to the correct location?
This thread needs to be moved to q and a. Anyhow, jblacks cm9 runs great for a dd. I ran it for almost 2 months and helped with building it. Only complaint is the ril kind of sucks and data drops a lot. If that bothers you though unsense by Santod is a great alternative.

[Q] *Animation Transitions*

Peace All,
A while ago (specifically on the HTC Evo OG) there used to be MOD's for custom transition animations, like Bounce, Flip & Fold, blur and etc. I am aware that there is an app called Animod that used to be used, but it hasnt been updated in a while and I doubt it will work on JB.
Just curious if there are any themers that could possibly make Metamorphs for transition animations (or give a brief DIY run through)
Thanks

Peace southernstyle,
I was just on the latest Viper ROM, but unfortunately was having issues w/ SMS constantly showing up as failed msgs and keyboard lag (that drove me crazy especially when I was web-surfing or looking for something important). I loved the ROM and the various tweaks (including the custom transitions) but I just couldnt deal with the above mentioned issues.

I have had issues before with Viper, but I have found that usually it's the kernel. I'm using ElementalX 4.3. I bumped up the voltage a little from the default and turned off overclocking graphics and no zram. It has been working much better for me, maybe play around a little with it. IMO it's the best Sense rom for customizing. Maybe give it a good 2 days to settle after fresh install. Hope that helps a little

Nova launcher has those options if you prefer AOSP or a de-sensed viper rom can do it as well...

BTW southernstyle...does use of the kernel help with keyboard lag (ie it refusing to pop up on certain occasions)? Please let me know..I would consider going back to Viper if it helps with that.

I don't notice any lag on the keyboard. I also recently flashed, what I think was, the Sense 5 keyboard. You can find it in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2212334 It works pretty well for me.
Cool!!

I decided to re-try Viper (new update)...still getting the persistent failed txt msg notification--but keyboard lag is mostly gone. Need your assistance and no one seems to know. Have you upgraded to the latest Viper ROM? If so, have you been able to flash ElementalX ? What app are u using to control voltages (SetCPU, Kernel Tuner, Viper Tweaks or ROM Toolbox)? What are the current settings u are using?
Please let me know...it seems that development in the ElementalX forum is *dead*.
