Since this is General Chat............I want to say sorry to everyone here. I have a few $$$$ and for the last 2 days, have been looking to get myself a Christmas Present, specifically, another phone!
I spent the better part of yesterday doing research on Galaxy SII, Unless you switch to T-Mobile for the 1.5G processor, its a waste. And lets be honest, T-Mobile has no cash and the Fed's have a lock on AT&T giving them any.
I spent a good part of today looking at the news on Galaxy Nexus. For personal reasons, I hate Verzion, but if you look at this phone, spec for spec, Photon beats it. Funny, it has no room for SD Card and it praises a 4.6" screen, but only 4" is viewable?
We all have the need to make our phones special, I do not see what more I can actually do. I love it just the way it is and even when I look at other phones, I see no reason to leave. I'm not saying the others phones are bad, they are not. I just find that doing a COMPLETE side-by-side comparison..........
I'm here to stay!
the only phone i would consider is the droid razr. its a newer specced up phone with samoled (<3) and lte.
i dont believe however its worth 300 bucks on contract...
I agree. Verizon raping their customers with the contract price. Galaxy nexus is not that great. Having the same issuesvas the galaxy 2. Android is big, bad gps. Only positive is pure android. But that's not worth $300. Ill wait for it to be ported lol

Nice Shabby, its missing 2Gb of ROM (which Photon will likely suck up with ICS), missing FM Radio, and its missing a few networks. Nice phone, not being picky, just going spec-4-spec!
EDIT: And it only works in the Beautiful United States of America. Photon helps me pick up European and Asian women on the go! (Russian, South Korea, China, Sydney, South Africa, UK, German, Finland, Norway, (of course Sweden, headquarters), Rio, and good ole Amprior Canada!!) I'd toss in New Zeland and Singpour, but they were 2-day vacations!
And I can confirm, Harrisburg, PA! and we have 4Gsssssssssssssssss!

Its fugly though. I can't stand the design.
@Kenny, I understand your point, but I was mearly speaking of Spec wise. It's missing 3 items that make Photon a COMPLETE business choice. Will 1Gb RAM play nice with ICS? The better I get with camera, the more I use it so why downgrade? What if I get trapped in Mexican Jail on vacation?
Granted, not all of this comes into play for everyone's use BUT, nice to know we have it just in case.
Having come from the samsung moment I'm wary of ever buying another samsung phone again the only thing appealing to me about the new nexus is ICS and hopefully that will end up coming to the photon. I can't think of any other phone that's currently out right now that I would prefer over the photon.

The razor looks sexy and the new MAP on it gives it that shine. Played with a atrix 2 also mmmmm
I like this post. At the moment it is in my mind near damn a complete phone. It does everything I want and I am still only scratching the surface.

I was looking around for another device myself. Nothing really compared. I love my lapdock (when it works ) This thing is blazing fast. It works in Korea and its just MoPhokin awesome.
Now if it only did my taxes. oh wait, there's a turbo tax app.
I agree, the Photon is much more and once it gets ICS it will be even more awesome. The Nexus may have one or two things (hardware wise) that the Photon doesn't have but its not like its a deal breaker.
Besides, Verizon and Samsung won't be holders of the Nexus line forever. I see Moto taking that title soon enough and hopefully it will be on Sprint.

Only for 1040EZ or your SOL. Sorry!
Yeah it's hard to find a better one in sprint basket.
(especially when looking for a GSM/world phone)
I love my Photon, but the display tech isn't the best compared to Super AMOLED, but then again, not having burn in preserves the phone too.
I'm glad Motorola is now picking up, and I can't wait to see Motorola's Tegra 3 offering with Super AMOLED.

As a Fascinate user, was planning on getting the Bionic as I was at first disapointed with Samsung's lack of support, issues, etc. But the screen, codecs, weight, and such all won me over, and I can't wait to get the SGSII. Hopefully its coming to Verizon with an Exynos processor and Mali GPU.....

I think most of the people who have posted on SII subforum will be getting it.
Though if its delayed some might switch to a phone thats already out or wait and see what the iPhone5 brings to the table (which i will be doing if it doesnt come out this month or early May.

I am still not sure{using N1 for close to 14months now},will decide depending on how well HTC Sensation turns out{announcement might come on 12th April}
LG Optimus 2X{already available here & is surprisingly cheaper than SE Xperia Arc & Xperia Play} vs SGS 2 vs HTC Sensation will be my choices.But right now my first preference will be HTC Sensation{aka HTC Pyramid}
I can upgrade any time I want to, so I can't wait to buy it when it comes out! I was a bit disappointed with the Tegra2, so right now is a good time to see the other dual cores coming out.
Oh, and the fact that Galaxy phones are made in Korea makes me swell with pride, so that's another factor in buying the SGSII.

I was an early adopter for the original SGS and got slightly burnt by the annoying lag with Samsung's official ROM. Luckily there are some great people on XDA and a lot of effort has gone into creating a much better custom ROM.
Although everything about the SGS2 sounds great, I think I'll hang back by a month or two until I've ready the initial reviews and customer experiences (hopefully benefit from a reduced price from the original launch price).
I'm definitely getting one, to replace a rather old Sanyo SCP-8400. I've had the SGS2 on pre-order since March 18...
I've also preordered mine on Amazon.de. I trust the xda devs will come through, as they most often do.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but HTC Sensation specs aren't better than SGS2, even though it's been announced after SGS2... Where is the NFC, for example ? What's really unique in Sensation? SGS2 has some cool gyroscope functions, for example.
Ill certainly be getting this device WHEN its launched......
The Best Android Phone will be mine on the 22August 2011

im trying to see if I should wait for the Galaxy S2, GX2, or htc Sensation too.
Sensation and Galaxy S2 both have more Ram the the LG, but the LG is out now...
All 3 use are different duel core processor.
I definitely dont think you should go for the mytouch 4 with the LG out now and others on the way.
trying to decide which of the 3 duel core phones to go for myself.
if you are looking for a phone now, its the LG hands down. If you are willing to wait, then you are in the same boat as me. not sure between the LG, HTC, or Sammy
Ya, the htc is supposed to be out in June or July. But my son's mytouch slide is having issues. So I'm considering upgrading and giving him my phone.

If you can wait ............wait for the S2 the hardware is something to wait for. Over the next 10-15 months all the phones will go through a huge change. All the new phones hardware will have the capacity to run windows 7 (not that they will) but think about it ....the phone I have now has the same power as my windows 2000 computer 7 years ago............ amazing time.........
The vibrant has too much going for it to pay for an upgrade now. Especially in my mind the uncertainty of the AT&T takeover, or as i call it, when we all get screwed.
The g2x is amazing. I want one. But I also know my phone is dang good and only better phones are going to roll out... More GHz and more dual cores.
The next phone with a perfect 4"screen, 1.3+ GHz dual core on a good/cheap network may change my opinion... In the future.
S2 for sure. There is nothing to discuss, and nothing to think about. That is just the way to do it. Period.
S2 has a answered my prayers. I have been waiting for a freakin 4.3 SAMOLED phone to come out. Sammy only had the 4" galaxy S - Vibrant last year with talks of "dual core."
I'm glad that they didn't rush it either- because that would have been a huge liability waiting to happen.
Instead, they listened to our gripes.
1. 32gb memory- on bigger model
2. FFC - badass
3. FLASH!!!!
4. 8mp camera
5. 4.3" Capacitive Touch
6. Super Amoled!!!!!!!!
7. Gorilla glass?
8. External SD support up to 32gb
9. 4g !!!!!
10. GingerBread official.
11. Mod edit: to much info mate...keep it to yourself.
Seriously, it blows anything out of the water that is out there and will be out there in the near future.
Plus, Tmobile is getting is.
I'm going to buy 10 of these just in case zombies attack, then I'll just sit back and relax.
Anyway, /shameless Plug.
you get the picture.
GL with your decision.
A better way to go about this is, do you plan on rooting your new phone and installing custom ROMs? If you you do intend to do that, then i think Samsung has proven they could careless about you or the dev community so long as you buy there product.
We all know HTC shares there source code and there is a herd of diehard HTC fans who will mod the crap out of the Sensation.
I just picked up the G2x yesterday after i seen that LG has already released source code for not only the OS but kernel source code as well, and with cyanogen himself doing the CM7 port to the G2x, it will and should be community supported greatly as well
A thing that sold me on the G2x is that it supports AT&T 3G bands, so if its still my main phone if the merger goes down, it'll be a fully compatible device and i wont need to buy a new one to take advantage of AT&Ts extended coverage
So in the end it really just boils down to:
How long can you wait?
Do you intend to mod your phone?
Galaxy S2 hands down.
It will have a lot of ROMS for it since it has an unlocked Bootloader just like the Vibrant. The HTC Sensation does NOT. It also has lots of memory internal, and a 4.3 Super Amoled PLUS. Everything else you can compare to the HTC Sensation of G2X as all 3 have relatively similar "rest of the phone".
I'm on a g2x lets hope that the galaxy 2 does not have the normal sammy problems like on the vibrant I have a bitter taste for them now

as you can see from the second post in this thread, I too am trying to decide between gx2, gs2, sensation...
i see tons of people saying the samsung gs2 will be the best thing ever. So yes, Sammy does have awesome hardware (look at our vibrants). But, will it be cheap plastic? and who cares how great the hardware is if the Software sucks balls? (like our vibrants). Yes, our developers are awesome, but they are having to run circles around Sammy's terrible software writing...
I am not saying this is the case with the gs2, as im thinking about it too, just wondering these things...?
Thank you guys so much for your responses. It was exactly what I was looking for, different opinions. I needed to get a phone because two of the phones on my plan were injured. My son chose the "sidekick" not a bad phone, but I tried to talk him out of it. But whatever, it was cheaper.(good for me). I chose the G2x. And I gotta say, WOW! And for those wondering, the screen is just as good. Colors even seem a bit deeper. Quadrants (whatever) but 2200 out the box. The 4g is way better than my 3g. You tube on HD without a stutter. Couldnt pull that off before.
1080 vid recording (I was told) not tested yet.
Fast fast fast processor.
FFC (untested yet)
8mp camera with flash.
Feels much more solid and better made than Vibrant.
Stock against stock. Hands down its better. Guess I will have to wait on dev community for customization results. Maybe I will try to figure out how and root it tonight to remove some bloat.
I will miss my Vibrant (but my sis in law will be happy).
Oh! And I heard today the merge with ATT may not happen. Yay!

Hold out for a Nexus Prime... supposedly coming in October. Pure Google experience! Just hope that the latest rumors that it is supposed to be exclusive to Verizon prove false... hard to believe Google would do this, alienating all current Nexus owners & devs.
i have had the samsung galaxy s2 for about two weeks, and although it has an amazing screen and its the fastest device i have ever use - it's battery is awful.
I switched back to the atrix for now.

you switched back just because of the battery life?.. personally i HATE samsungs phones, but the nexus S was a nice looking device, never used it but yeah. sgs2 looks nice as well, idk if id trade though.
I've been waiting for the SGS2 but I will probably add it as a second line and use it as my daily driver and then turn my Atrix into more of a PMP and Hotspot.
I'm also looking to see if they do end up releasing a SGS2 variant with the keyboard that's been leaked:
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/07/26/atts-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-outed-with-keyboard-in-tow/
The Atrix is perfect for me because of WebTop. I use it for work when I go to client's businesses, a lot more efficient that carrying a laptop. When (if?) the prime comes to AT&T, I'll use that for personal use, and switch SIMs for when I need the Atrix.

I thought about the same thing OP. Realistically the top phones out right now are the iPhone 4, Atrix, Galaxy S2, and Optimus 2x. And...the next wave of super phones that are coming out will be around October. This will include a bunch of devices that Samsung and Motorola, among others will release to compete with the iPhone 5.
My advice is keep your Atrix and make the switch once the next big transition to dual core phones happens because you'll be wasting money and it's pointless to switch for such little improvement.

ill stay with my atrix, im patiently awaiting cm7 to come out of beta and have everything work cm7 hauls ass compared to any rom right now for atrix becuase its 100% blur free
Not worth it imo. You get a bigger screen with less res, worse battery, slightly better processor (but seriously Tegra2 is more than good enough esp overclocked), superthin if thats your cup of tea.
As others have said, wait till the next generation comes out Q4. Atrix to SGS2 is incremental at best. As I hate the SGS2 form factor and really love qHD resolution of atrix, it would be going backwards IMO. The only thing about the atrix that lets me down is the little bugs with VOIP/SIP stack and bluetooth as well (e.g. if you're using BT headphones for music, notification sounds keep coming out of phone not BT).
Now if you're not game to root and flash custom ROM then the balance tilts a fair bit, stock SW wise the SGS2 is noticeably faster than the stock atrix IMO.
^ only reason this is true is because sgs2 is stock clocked at 1.2ghz, but has terrible battery life. I am oc'd at 1.3ghz with better than stock atrix battery life

I plan on getting one. Even though it's already a few months old, I feel like it's one of the most "future proof" of current phones on the market right now.
Things like Exynos CPU/GPU, 1 GB ram, NFC, effectively maximum speed HSPA+... My Captivate runs quite comfortable at 1.3 GHz w/ Cyanogenmod and still beats the pants off of any stock Android device currently available in the States. That's 2+ versions of Android ahead of what it launched with (2.1 Eclair), and a 30% overclock of what the stock chip came with. By similar logic, the GS2 should last through Ice Cream Sandwich and beyond...
The Note looks awesome but if I wait for it then something better will be right around the corner, besides, been sitting on this upgrade since July

But I'll be picking up the AT&T SGSII when it comes out. Can always sell it later when something much better is released.
I will be getting it on or close as possible to Oct. 2nd I have waited this long and learned my lesson. I WON'T be waiting for the next best phone from attention after this one, I will fork out the cash for an unbranded phone. Maybe the prime or SGS3 IN the near future

I'll be getting it on launch day for sure. I was debating on waiting for the Nexus announcement but the likelihood of at&t seeing a nexus device near launch is slim to none. I know there have been hints dropped about it launching as both cdma and gsm but there is no concrete evidence. So just going by history it will likely be a few months before at&t sees the prime.

Smaller screens and lack of a stylus.
All personal preference though.

You suck!
LoL gotta admit had me laughing hard though
It's either buy this on release date or wait for the Nexus Prime or HTC Holiday/Raider 4G for me. I've been phoneless since March so I'm not sure that I want to wait much longer for such a trivial upgrade (SGSII -> Prime/Holiday).
What do you guys think?
Is there any trick or loopholes in att contract that we can exploit to get an early upgrade? Or is there any way like may be paying something around 100$ to get an early upgrade?

I don't get why people think Note is God like phone or something. By the time it comes out, the specs will be mediocre at best.

Because it has potential, higher resolution is a big thing which is the only thing missing from sgs2.
Also 5.3 sounds big, but you never know it may be the sweet spot between a phone and tablet. It is definitely going to replace both my phone and tablet.
And then there is the stylus which is kind of cool to have and might come handy in lots of places.
The only thing which is disappointing is the software. I would have liked to see ICS, but they are shipping with ginger bread.

OK, so i was thinking about either getting this phone or waiting to see what shows up at CES.
I know CES is tomorrow so i was wondering if a phone that has better specs comes out.
If You guys can recommend a phone or even give a suggestion i would greatly appreciate it.
I'm used to the Motorola atrix 2 if that helps
I need it to be AT&T and be running at least ICS but preferably JB
I have to wait til March for an upgrade
Thanks
Oh and I bet you cant hit that THANKS button at the bottom left of this post
[PLEASE VOTE]
The LGOG has ICS but runs like JB. Imagine the power it'll have when it gets JB.
The way mobile technology has been speeding along, by March, something with better specs will definitely be out/announced. Then you'll just have a short wait till you can get your hands on it. Today, I would absolutely recommend this phone. Best specs out there but, cmon, by March you probably need to be looking ahead.

There will always a better phone around the corner. At some point you have jump in.

In all honesty... I would wait to take a look at what the Galaxy S4 will bring since you have to wait until March anyway.
Galaxy S4 will have a huge selection of accessories and ROMs
However,
I have chosen the LGOG for the following reasons:
1. My upgrade was close to its release.
2. I paid $100 for a phone-beast.
3. It is the first quad-core phone with LTE on AT&T.
4. The display is not 5 inches or more.
5. It is basically a nicer Nexus 4. (I have learned that hardware as close to the current Nexus device as possible is a very safe bet)
6. The last phone that I though was this sexy was a Nexus One. This thing is gorgeous.
thanks guys
Thank you to all who replied
I think all the wow factor phones are getting held up for mobile world congress next month. All I really saw so far that was interesting was the new xperia ZL or whatever it was, but given sony's track record there will be an updated version by march.

If you're going to be waiting until spring, I'd keep my eyes out for devices using the upcoming SnapDragon 600 or 800 processors that were just announced. The specs on these chipsets are amazing...40 to 75 percent more powerful than our Snapdragon S4 Pro processors.

That's the way of the gadget world. As soon as you buy the latest and greatest, it's already obsolete.
Take comfort that everyone who buys one of those new Qualcomm chipped phones will be surpassed just as quickly by the next thing to come out.

This makes me feel better... slightly.
I won't ever consider a Sony phone, especially on AT&T, given that their phones come with locked bootloaders that can't be unlocked. International versions are easily unlocked. By Sony. Just not the US versions. I should know, I had a Sony Xperia Play phone for a while and I recently returned an Xperia TL.

The thing that kills me, and this isn't an attack, is that a lot of people are like "I would NEVER get this phone because it's made by this!"
Like me, I personally don't like Samsung. And I make it a point to not buy their phones.
Sony's I have no experience with and I've only had an LG twice (this phone and a flip phone when I was 14).
But my point is people say they hate LG for whatever reason and then sell this phone and by the N4, which yknow, made by LG.
Again, not at attack! I was simply doing research on when the N5 was coming out and all these people are like, I HATE LG, NEXUS ALL THE WAY (sent from my N4). It's just laughable.

I hope they were being ironic... and not moronic.
I only had Sony's first Android phone.
It was meh, I heard they did better after that.
It is AT&T I would never buy.
They are a terrible and lock down all their phones.

I'm going to have to say the latter, lol.

FWIW, they did much better. Their newest Xperia Z(L) looks like magnificent work of art.
As long as you're waiting, see what the S4 has to offer. Samsung's have custom ROM's about 7 hours after the first go on sale. Also, by then, the development on this phone should really be kicking into high gear (knock on wood). Also, you might catch wind of the LGOG2 then.
However, at some point there is about only so much power you're going to need in a handset that everything else becomes overkill. These phones are almost as powerful/fast as a mid-level laptop, but you don't want to type out a long word doc on them or edit an excel file. Finally, this will probably cost a coke and a smile by then compared to the S4 or LGOG2.

Yeah, I love the aesthetics of the xperia phones... haven't looked that one up yet though.
I would never judge a phone by it's manufacturer.
Look at Motorola. We went from the original Verizon Droid to the piece of sh**t Backflip on AT&T. Then we have the Atrix 4g, which in my experience had nice specs, but overall was a terrible quality phone.
HTC use to be the kind of Android phones, and now they have dropped off. (Look at their latest earnings).
Also do not forget the earliest Android offering by Samsung that I can remember - Samsung Moment for Sprint. That thing was all kids of ugly and slow.
I used to work for an eBay reseller, and played with 100 - 150 phones per day. Manufacturer is really irrelevant. You have to look at the unit as in individual.
