Issue started when flashing Passion (ICS) v5, but I have since ODIN 'ed back to stock, still broken. rooted and flashed CM7, still broken. My notification audio still works. My speaker phone during calls still works. My earpiece during calls does not work, and media audio will not play over speaker, earpiece, or bluetooth. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Bringing back thread form the dead. I am having the same issue with my Vibrant. I bought the phone used and everything was working but now it all went out just like the OP. My earpiece does not work during calls but the speakerphone does work. Also, when using the phone for media, i.e. Youtube, the speaker does not put out any sound but during a phone call after I have turned on speakerphone Youtube media works over speakerphone. The audible touch tones and haptic feedback work during phone calls and sometimes during normal use. Notification sounds work all the time. The phone is running Eclair 2.1. I have tried resetting the phone to factory software and still no luck. Yesterday I opened the phone up and used an air can to blow out dust and it started to work but it went out again today. I am just looking to find out if this is a software issue or firmware issue? Thanks for the time and advice.
install "toggle headset2",and set the widget, you can control audio output manually

Hello, I am a new user here.
I have a strange problem with my Bolt where at times the rear speaker plays all streams (alarm, notification, ringtone, media, etc.) so quietly that I have to put my ear directly next to the speaker to hear anything. At random times the speaker decides to play at normal volume again. I do not really hear a crackling sound so it seems the speaker is not blown.
The issue occurred when I was using SynergyROM for Thunderbolt r264, but the issue still occurs when I do a nandroid restore to a ROM I flashed previously when the problem did not occur. I am now using CyanogenMod 7.1.1 for Thunderbolt and yes, I am rooted.
The headphone jack works fine, so I'm guessing it has nothing to do with the system volume control. However, the problem sometimes occurs as soon as I plug in my headphones and then unplug them.
Does anyone know what I can do besides taking my phone to Verizon (my carrier) or a phone repair shop to fix this?
I have this same problem. I would also like to know what the cause is. It is very annoying because most of the time, I cannot hear my phone ring.
I think this may have something to do with the system thinking that headphones are still plugged in. I am running a Theoryrom based off of CM7 and if I go into the CyanogenMod settings in the sound menu and check the boxes for notifications, ring tones, and alarms to always play on speaker, all of a sudden the speaker volume seems to have improved. Something you may try. If it happens again on mine (which it will) I will see if I can figure out what the problem is.
Nevermind, it went back to being quiet, and that doesn't seem to fix it. Must have been a fluke.
It seems like there is no indication of when it will happen. Is it a hardware issue or an issue with the Android system and plugging in a headset?
My initial guess would be that it is a hardware issue. I have tried flashing new and different ROMs ranging from Sense base DasBAMF roms to AOSP based liquid roms and the problem persists even after a flash, which to me would indicate that it is not an issue with the Android system.
The last time it came and went for me had nothing to do with plugging or unplgging a headset. I have no idea what is going on.
Ok, so my speaker came back this morning, and I did notice one potentially related thing when it happened. Just before it came back, the DSPManager application force closed. I wonder if something is wonky with that program. If you are still having issues, could you try to force close, uninstall, or freeze (using Titanium) the DSPManager application to see if your speaker volume comes back?
Update: Nope, not it. Must be hardware.
The strange part about this problem is that nothing wrong seems to be happening with the software when the sound comes back on. Also, I have to play music constantly in order for the sound to come back on. It doesn't seem like the speaker is blown out... there is no crackling sound. The sound is just really really quiet.
Alright, I finally decided to replace the speaker unit inside my phone because it would no longer go back to the original volume. It seems my hunch was right. The new speaker is working perfectly now.
Hey All,
My phone is pretty much stock, (close to) latest HBOOT/Radios/OTA (ICS), although I have flashed whatever version of TWRP was around way back when the latest OTA came about and rooted it.
Anyway, I've got a peculiar thing happening that I only just discovered: When I pair and connect my phone's bluetooth radio with the audio system in my car (the car is a recent addition to the family), I can't get the phone app audio to work properly over the car's audio system.
One possible clue is that I do use PowerAmp to play music over BT, and it works fine. When I dial the phone and press send, as soon as dialing ensues, music is interrupted, the phone number I'm dialing shows in the radio's screen, but audio goes completely silent. I have to manually change the phone app's sound from BT to speaker to continue with phone calls.
Have any of your experts ever had, and solved, this issue?
Thanks!
john
Hi
I recently bought a Micromax Spark 2 Plus phone running Android marshmallow 6.0
There is a weird problem i am facing in that. The ringtone suddenly stops working. If i get a call, the phone vibrates and screen flashes but ringtone doesn't work. Speakers work fine and music also plays from external speakers but only ringtone stops working. Infact ringtones from third party applications like messenger or skype also stops working (But external speakers works as voice is audible if i receive the call). Also, if i go to settings and select the ringtone, it doesn't play. Playing a mp3 song works.
Rebooting the phone fixes the issue temporarily with everything working fine. Phone works fine for a day and then suddenly again the ringtone stops working. Again rebooting fixes the issue temporarily. I have done factory reset also but still the problem persists.
Please give me some idea as what the problem could be!! Is is a hardware related issue or a software related issue??
The vendor i purchased the phone from is not replacing the handset.
P.S. when ringtone stops working, the external speaker works for voice calls and mp3 songs, youtube videos etc. Only ringtones do not work that time.
Please help!!
Regards
currently on AOSP 5.1.1 there is no volume at all, can't play music from music app or youtube or anywhere else, the problem started off with no volume when people try to call me (yes the ringer was on full volume and sound), after a few days the volume started to not work on facebook videos and youtube and other stuff, the phone speaker works so when i notice that someone does call me (vibrate works but don't really notice most calls) the speaker works i can hear the other person (mics not broken), loud speaker doesn't work, is the actual speaker broken? how do i go about a replacement if so, have looked a lot around the web and cannot find parts other than screen and digitizer. I have tried flashing the firmware with twrp and sp flashtool, formatting everything and tried different versions of firmwares and still the same not fixed, also tried custom roms... any suggestions?
I have flashed my phone to stock Android 5.1 as this is the only stable version and all is working well apart from the microphone. When I receive a call the ringtone occurs and i can hear the other person but they can't hear me. I also tested the mic on google but nothing happened.
However, I downloaded TestYourAndroid from Play store and the mic works so I know it's got to be a firmware issue.
Also I can record voice by recording app
If you can help me I would be most grateful.
Note. this is android 5.1 lollipop so it doesn't have full permissions mode, I can access permissions for downloaded app but not for system app such as "phone" is.
Hey everyone,
So this issue has been ongoing for a while and it's a pretty confusing one. (Running OG Pixel from Canada, originally from Telus)
My speakers and microphone suddenly stopped working when I upgraded to Android 9. I thought it could have been a hardware failure, but after much testing it's clearly software related.
I bought a Bluetooth headset, audio works when it's rooted to a Bluetooth device, but the microphone still doesn't work.
When I go into settings, and adjust the volume for the ringer and the alarm, my speakers work.
When I boot into safe mode, my microphone works for one recording, then stops working. However my speakers don't work in safe mode.
I have flashed an OTA recovery, done a factory reset and also uninstalled updates to the phone, sms and camera app in a hopes it was an issue with one of those.
Any ideas of what it could be?
Do I need to install TWRP and reflash a custom rom?
