I originally asked in this in the Noob Guide thread, but this its driving new crazy so I figured id make a thread
Ok so I'm rooted now and have been trying to get CW recovery image installed but am having done difficulty.
I choose flash recovery from ROM manager, then reboot into recovery, stock 3e recovery so I reinstall packages, it comes back to the 3e image, reinstall packages again and now I have clockwork.
Now when I reboot the phone and then reboot to recovery again, I'm once again at the 3e recovery..if I reinstall packages again it will reboot me to clockwork, but it just won't stick.
I've done this multiple times now to no avail. Can anyone help me out here? Is it possible just to adb push the cw recovery image? I'm not a noob by any means, but this phone has been giving me a hell of a time, I would greatly appreciate any assistance here. Thanks in advance.

I posted in the noob guide back, I suppose a custom rom is out of the question?
They can replace the stock recovery.
If you want to stay stock, it must be possible... hopefully others can chime in if that was your intent.
Thank you for the response sir, a custom rom is the goal, since I couldnt find anyone else reporting the same problem, I was just scared to flash a rom when the recovery wouldn't flash.
I'll be flashing tonight when I get time. Thanks again for your help.
Not sure what OS you want, but I would suggest Trigger for stability.
Awesome, that's what I was leaning towards so that makes my decision easier. I wish CM7 or miui were more stable, so I guess froyo it is..

CM7 IS stable as far as using your phone as a phone and playing apps.
It does have battery drain issues (though not as bad as before), you can't charge the phone with it powered off, NO gps and 3d graphics is lacking.
Other than that, CM7 runs great. I've had it for a week now with no issues.
All that said, I would still suggest trigger.
Im Currently running stock froyo.uvka6 and dont know what to do now. i would like to flash a rom with great battery and great performance. please help

Lol - way to double post. I already linked him to that.
At least he'll know it's a good thread to view.
You can download rom manager from the Market and once installed open it and the first option says "install clockwork mod recovery" choose that. It'll install and I assume you know how to get into recovery...turn phone off, hold up volume + down volume + power altogether to boot into recovery. Good roms are bi-winning, project-v, bionix nextgen, sgs II clone....just some off the top of my head. You just download any ROM and place on the root of your internal SD card. Then boot into recovery like I told you above, it should come up and choose 'reinstall packages' it'll reboot now. When it comes back up choose 'reinstall packages' again, this time you'll enter clockwork mod recovery. Wipe factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache under advanced. Then go back and choose install custom ROM I think and then pick choose from SD card. Your roms will be in there you can choose anyone to install once done just go back and reboot system.

thanks guys
can i get gingerbread roms also?
im gonna be brutally honest!! it says in op on GB roms that GB roms are for experienced users only. And by the way ur asking for help i wouldnt go to gb roms until ur a lil more advanced. With Gb roms theres more to it then normal 2.2 roms, good luck!
My suggestion, as I was only in your place a few days ago, is to read the vibrant bible, make sure you understand all the steps and procedures associated with rooting, flashing, backing up, etc etc.
Also get famaliar with understanding what titanium backup does, rom manager does and busy box.
Once you learn all this and do your first flash, like myself, whom only did my first flash a few days ago, you will see that what you will read might sound scary, but it's really not as long as you take all the correct steps illustrated in the bible AS WELL as following the instructions for the particular ROM you want to flash. They normally put the install instructions in the OP of the thread.
The most important thing to learn and do, is how to make a nandroid backup of your OS as your fall back should things go wrong.
Now, you are on stock froyo, which means that you will have a challenge to get the clockword recovery console to get loaded onto your phone. There are ways around this, which is the development section but you can read this thread to get more info on why and what you can do to not only solve it but also backup correctly, etc etc.

You will notice both me and another member ran into the same issue and with the help of the great ppl here, we both were able to get what we needed done to move forward.
I hope this helped you out a bit.
Hello,
I'm a happy user of cyanogenmod and have loved it since the day I got it. But as I updated to CM 7.1.0 Stable mod, I've had problems with my wireless. Whenever I try to turn it on, it responds with "Error" and doesn't turn on. I can't see any wireless networks either.
I tried something from cyanogenmods forum, but with no luck, it said I had to "Format system". As I tried to "Format system", it restarted and it's stuck at the "HTC" White screen. It shows the white screen everytime I try to start it. I'm able to get into HBOOT and recovery, but I'm unsure what to do. Have I really broken my phone?
Anything I can do to get it working again? I'd love if anybody could help me here, thank you.
I'm not very good at this, so I would be nice if somebody could guide me through this.
Ok, In your possition I bet you panic a little bit? Don't worry and stay calm
First of all, i don't know what other requirements you need other than to get the rom back into your phone ie swap partition, ext partition etc, so this help is to ONLY get a rom back into your formatted phone.
You said you can boot in recovery, this is a sure sign phone is not broken, do you have clockwork mod recovery?
If you have clockwork mod still in root folder of your sdcard, your halfway to fixing your issue, if no clockwork mod, search on XDA and get the clockwork mod recovery, it'll probably be called fake-flash and it will be a zip file, might be best to get version 5.0.2.0.
Next you will need a rom, download any one you like, be it cyanogen, Blayo's froyo, ogo's gingerbread etc.
If you've already got clockwork mod on your sdcard then best to take the sdcard out, put it in a card reader attached to the computer, copy the rom zip file to the sdcard, put it back in to the phone, load up clockwork mod via recovery on your phone then flash the rom from sdcard...
if no clockwork mod, then copy both clockwork and the rom to the sdcard clockwork must be named update.zip and in the root of the sdcard, put sdcard back in your phone then follow the same flashing procedure as before. You may need to wipe data and davlik cache before flashing.
I'm pretty new to android rooting & flashing and i've had a few scares myself, the one most important thing i've discovered is to have clockwork mod recovery in the root of the sdcard, and so long as you can boot into that, you pretty much can't go wrong, unless your S-OFF, then an inexperianced user can do damage.
The other thing of importance is to either have backups (done via clockwork mod) or a fresh rom to flash on the sdcard, backups are better though because that keep all your apps and stuff intact
Good Luck
OH F*** YEAH! It started now! ranger4740, I love you!

I am very glad I could help you get your phone back up and running.
Have a look in this post my newbee tip for using Clockworkmod recovery's, it may help you for future reference. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1298680
As you probably already know, the recovery on our devices is a part of the boot partition, which means it's bundled with the kernel. This is not really bad, but something can be done about it. In this thread we can try to make the recovery separate from the kernel.
PLEASE, DON'T POST ANYTHING UNRELATED. IT'S A DEVELOPMENT THREAD, ALL THE PROGRESS WILL BE TRACKED IN OP.
Everything is done, waiting for ICS to drop and then it'll be used in AOKP. The recovery is on /data/local/recovery.img or /system/recovery.img, the /data one takes precedence.
I am trrying to flash the VRAMC3_radio.zip that Imnuts created. I have copied it to my sd and when I go into recovery, it does not show up in the list. Clockwork Mod can find it, however, when it boots into recovery, I get a script error.
What am I doing wrong? I had no problem flashing the zip that Beans created from the OTA update for this version.
I consider myself to be technically saavy and I have looked for an answer. Please help.
Thanks
Thanks to Beans and Imnuts for their expedient solutions.
