First Time Noob, Australia Vodafone - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought galaxy s2 on a 24 month contract from vodafone.
now;
the model number is
GT-I9100T
Android version; 2.3.3
Baseband: I9100TDUKF4
Kernal Version; 2.6.35.7-I9100TDUKH1-CL474234
and Build Number; Gingerbread.Dukh1
i was really hoping someone could answer some very basic questions for me as i am new.
1) does rooting involve flashing a 'rooted' firmware to ur phone using software like odin? or does it root the existing firmware.
2)Do i really need to change the kernal? what is the benefit?
PS can someone please just explain to me how to root this phone??
i've read around and it is just confusing me..
do i have to flash an official firmware first to root it???arrggh

That could be the same question...
Easiest way to root the phone is to flash an unstable kernel then root the phone, you could also just flash the rooted kernel to your phone...
If you do I would suggest getting a usb jig (from ebay, about $5) as you can reset the flash counter and get rid if the annoying triangle with "!" in it from your boot screen...
You also need to go the Aus I9100T thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166701
This will give you some advice about the Oz model....
You will probably need to get a copy of your stock modem so you have good signal strength...
Now, you have some reading to do....

Using odin to flash a new firmware doesn't require root. Have a look at this thread, it will answer a lot of your questions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Different kernels offer different optimisations for example custom boot animations, improved battery life and different versions of cwm and much more. To be honest your best off trying a few, you'll soon get a feel for what is right for you. Have a look at this thread regarding rooting kernels http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399.
.tar = odin flashable, doesn't need root
.zip = clockwork flashable, requires root
As always read the instructions and make sure things are compatible

[Q] how easy is it to roll-back (un-root)?

Hi all,
A quick question on how easy to roll back (un-root) and put back the stock ROM?
My current ROM is stock Telstra ROM. (just bought the phone today)
PDA: DVKF4
PHONE: DVKF2
CSC: TELKF3
Build Info : Jun 21
I know how to roll back a HTC Desire - by installing the RUU image from HTC or use the PB99IMG.zip install method to remove "root" and put back into std ROM.
I have yet to root my SGS2. Reason to un-root and go back to stock ROM is for warranty purposes. you never know what will happen (for example, my desire decides to dies on me yesterday, had to put back stock ROM to submit for warranty claim).
thank you in advance

Nope. Jig is only required to clear the custom Rom counter, in case you have to claim warranty and return the phone to Samsung. And also to force the phone in Download mode, if something bad happens while flashing custom ROM etc.
hey cad,
Made any headway here?
I just bought an SGS2 from Telstra as well and I have a similar phone to yours.
PDA: DVKF4
PHONE: DVKF2
CSC: TELKF3
I too would like to retain the stock kernel, firmware and csc.
If we root with an insecure kernel, how do we go back to stock kernel if it's not downloadable?
Could we just flash another kernel if we are making a warranty claim and hope they don't check?
I assume CSC is where all the Telstra crap is stored and once we get ROOT, we should be able to back this up out of \system

Usual is flash a relevant stock rom or older stock rom and update via Kies.

CSC is a file for network settings and does not contain any customized add ons from provider .

Hi all I new to all this so could someone point me in the right direction...

2. How to root.
3 what is odin and all the tools required to root and flash custom firmware.
Video tutorials would be healpful. Im comming from a HTC HD2 but it feels like the explanations were easier to find.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Roms and all tha Jazz

Hello,
i would like some guidance on the rooting side of things. with every page i read im getting more and more confused.
i have installed/flashed litening rom.
ive used the sim unlock tool to unlock my phone.
im confused on all of the unsecure and secure stuff.
i would like my phone back to how i had it when i bought it, without the root access etc.
am i right in thinking that i would need the latest stock secure kernal which i would flash in exactly the same way as i flashed litening? or am i getting the wrong end of the stick.
or would i have to flash the specific three firmware (im not bothered about having all the three stuff on it but if i have to then so be it)
You need to follow Chainfire thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Don't get too much confused, its simple.
BTW- Aren't you already rooted as you are on Litening ROM!

I am rooted which was an easy process. I just can't get my head around all the different stock firmwares etc.
I would love to unlock my wife's S2 for her but want to know how to get it back to stock after.
Hope that makes sense?

where do i find the csc to go with this?
If you want to get it back to stock "back to how it was when I bought it", don't use any KG firmware unless you're from Poland or Brazil - IIRC, they're the only 2 areas that KG firmware is "official", i.e., flashable via Kies.
Sounds like you'll need a KF firmware. If you can't remember what your firmware originally was, try this:
http://fus.nanzen.se/
- will also tell you your latest available official update.
KG and KH 2.3.4
Rest is 2.3.3
Edit - see you've got KF3 - for your scenario, 99% sure it's the right choice.
ok so ive downloaded that one, it was a self extracting.exe file
i now have a tar file.
do i use odin again and put this tar in the pda part?
Anyone??
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
if the package one has one .tar file then yes.
keep in mind you will not have root access after this
Brilliant thanks all

Also after reverting back to stock roms, do your self a favor and buy a USB JIG (Samsung galaxy S JIG) from ebay for like 10 dollars. You can use this to reset the Binary Counter in Download mode, before you ship of any phone for say Warranty issues

[Q] Best way to root?

Hi, I was just wondering what way to rooting the galaxy s2 was the best/safest way?...Could someone just post a link to the rooting process? and if a few people could recommend some nice smooth roms ...that'll be great...Thank you!
i have the same ques.
my phone have these spec.:
Baseband: I9100XXKG5
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100|PKH1-CL453266 [email protected] #2
please how to root it ?
Easiest way to root is to use cf-root, full instructions in the thread
Match up the bit in bold to find out which kernel you need
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100|PKH1
If you want a newer stock rom try this thread, again to root you will want to use cf-root.
As far as a good custom rom combo, try ninph kernel and villanrom, links in my sig.
Rooting and Lag
Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and the lag on the home button is really annoying.
First thing I need to know is can I root my phone? It's on contract with O2 (UK).
Details:
Android 2.3.3
Baseband: I9100XXKDJ
Kernel Version:2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE1-CL181974

What are the benefits of rooting the phone?
If I root the phone, would I be able to do something about the lag and improve performance in general?
I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

That is FULL root
Root has nothing to do with free apps that is available via the Android market .
Comes with the phone out of the box .
Neither root nor rom are involved .
That is presuming you do not mean illegal theftware/Warez phone apps ,such posts are banned on XDA .

You may just want to update to a newer stock rom, see the 2nd link in my post.
That is a very old rom, there has been quite a lot of performance improvements since then. Try KG6 or KH3.
If you want to go for a custom rom, see my sig for what I use ninph+VR is a stock based combo where as CM7 is a whole new and different rom, though it has limitations and may not be good enough for everyone at this point.
Rooting allows you to use root apps, terminal emulators, titanium backup, CWM recovery (comes with the kernel) which allows full device backups.
Rooting is not the same as jailbreaking, you can sideload apps without rooting.

You can sideload any apps, there are also free apps in the market, and there are also loads of apps on xda if you look around.
Try the getjar store
Or appbrains
Android doesnt have the same limitations as iso, you can install apps from 3rd party's without rooting.

I'm unclear about what I need to do to root my phone with it being locked on contract to O2 (UK) and with carrier branded firmware.
What I'd like to do is root the phone and upgrade the firmware if possible, especially if there are performance improvements.
I don't understand the KG6 and KH3 - what are these are how do they differ?
I don't really want to mod or get anything custom, I just want to keep it simple: root and get a more up-to-date firmware, if possible.
Details:
Android 2.3.3
Baseband: I9100XXKDJ

I'm not really that good with the technical stuff and am not confident enough at the moment to just go follow the instructions straight away - too many questions I am unsure on and uncertainties.
First, do I upgrade the firmware first or do I root first?
Do I need to upgade to a carrier-branded firmware - is there a newer on available?
Is it possible to upgrade to a non-branded firmware - or will that not work as I am on contract/locked with O2?
Which version do I upgrade to? I have been advised KE2 but I have also been told the latest version is KE7? I don't really understand which I should be trying to upgrade to and where to start. I'm finding it a bit confusing.
If I can upgrade, what settings should I make sure I have noted?
What happens to all the data?
It just feels like a minefield at the moment. :-(
I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

You can flash any firmware via odin, it doesn't matter that your phone is locked, but it will stay locked.
Kg6 and kh3 are versions. You can update to them, once you flash a normal stock rom you won't be o2 branded anymore.
If you want a very simple setup with root, flash kh3 firmware from that thread, and then cf root kh3, you will be stock but have root and all the goodies.
You flash the rom first, then the cf root kernel via odin and you will have root.
As far as walking you though it, the guide is clear in the thread with the firmware, and me typing it out again wouldn't help I don't think.
As far as data, if you use a non wipe version, you won't lose anything, but you can backup your sms, mms, call log to your gmail with sms backup plan plus.
User app data can't be backed up without root.

I don't understand the naming convention or the differences between the different versions, such as Kg6 and kh3. What's the significance of 'kg' as opposed to 'kh' ?
Who makes these versions?
I've also been told about a 'ke7' version/update.
What is the latest branded firmware for O2 for the Galaxy S2? If there's a newer one, should I use that? Or would I be better off with one of the others above?
Do all these versions have the same GUI & look & feel? Do they all have TouchWiz 4? etc
When you said 'guide in the thread' - which thread are you referring to?
Do I 'lose' anything by flashing with a non-branded firmware?
Sorry to be a pain, finding it hard to grasp. It may be simpler than I am making it but I'm just concerned about damaging my phone or rendering it unusable.
Do I need a usb jig (not that I have a clue what it is!) ?
Thanks,
D
I chose the CF root option referenced in this thread and rooted 2 days ago. Very easy and straight forward. I'm a newbie to all this, and I'm finding it a lot of fun. I figured my car's ECU is modified, so why shouldn't my phone's be something other than stock?
They are all stock tw4 roms.
They all come from samsung, leaks.
K is the year, E G H etc is the month of releases.
H august, G is July, and so on and so forth.
You will lose any random bloatware o2 added.
The guide in the cf root thread and in the thread with all the stock roms, see my first post with both links.

Hi,
Right, have flashed XXKG5.
But I now see these in my firmware info:
Baseband version:
I9100XXKDJ
and
Kernel version:
2.6.35.7-I9100XXKG5-CL420550
[email protected] #2
Build number:
GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
My question is, should the baseband or build numbers have changed?
Only the Kernel version has changed. ???
Thanks,
D
Ok, sorted that last thing, I booted into the wrong mode.
Done a flash again with the KG5. Now, I see this my my firmware details:
Andriod Version: 2.3.4
Baseband version I9100XXKG5
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKG5-CL420550
[email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXKG5
Are these all correct?
What different / new in KG5 to KE1 (which is what was on the phone)??
Assuming this is now all correct, what's the easiest way to root this phone now?
Which zip do I need to download for the rooting (I don't know which link to use??)
Do I need to download just the kernel for KG5 too??
I apologise if this is already in instructions but I have a learning disability and find some of this hard to follow.
And do I need to do something to remove a yellow triangle or something!???
Thx

First of all, you have to flash a cf-root kernel with odin using a .tar file. Then you can flash the kernel you want, if it is compatible with your rom. Usually, this is said in kernel thread.. Hope this helps!!

You should read Chainfire's CF-Root thread and use CF-Root kernel for XWKJ2 in 7. post => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399&highlight=CF+Root
Good luck !
Flash using the cf-root that matches your stock/current kernel, make a cwm backup, then you can change to whatever Rom you fancy. Me personally i just rooted and removed all the Orange crap and tried a couple of Roms but in the end the phone is that good im happy with rooted stock so restored my backup
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I give up -- I thought I know enough to safely root my phone but it's hard =D. New things keeps coming up..
I just wanted someone to pin point me that this is the cf-root you should be using for your phone details as it is the best for you and with that you can easily install other custom ROMs (I want sensation one) and gain root access ofcourse.
Nevermind, I will keep doing the homework until I crack it up!
ANY help is still appreciated because I have files ready..

I want to root my phone. I have been reading alot of tutorials and posts made here in the forum. Now I think I know enough to root the phone. I am just confused about one little thing; can I flash any cf-root kernal to my phone or I need specific. Help me in choosing the kernal from Hellcat's one.
I downloaded XXKI4 from Hellcat's page but I am not sure. Which CF-root kernal should I flash?
This is my phone details according to Kies:
I had it updated using Kies. I want to know whether I can use any sg2 kernal on my phone or I have to be specific according to my phone details? I think I screwed up big time rooting by installing those updates..

Hi i read up on rooting my S2 on this website and youtube and i was confident that i could do it, they all made it sound and look easy.
I went ahead and flashed my Kernel (XWKF3) using ODIN 1.85 and it went through process said successful and rebooted as said but soon as the first black screen comes on saying "SAMSUNG GALAXY S2 GTI9100" it just stays on this screen and nothing else happens.
It is therefore Semi-Bricked, i have tried several kernels and firmware and then it totally bricks, thou lucky i bought a usb jig that puts it back into download mode.
My advice is to be 100% sure and do a lot of research before proceeding and if anyone got an idea what i can do to get my phone working again please let me know
If you chose to use Hellcat's Kernel, then you don't need CF-ROOT Kernel.

Kernel comes "instant rooted", after flashing this kernel your system is completely rooted (su, busybox and the Superuser app).
Nothing more needs to be done, totally newb friendly

Just download the Kernel that matches your current Kernel version.
To find out what Kernel you are using, Settings -> About
Else you can just go to Dialer, then *#1234#
The PDA version is also your Kernel Version.
Run ODIN, select the hellcat kernel *.tar file under PDA, then start.
DO NOT REPARTITION
DO NOT ERASE EFS
You say PDA version is your kernal version, it means KJ2 is my kernal version. I can't find the match for this kernal on hellcat's page. Though my Baseband version in 'about' shows XXKI4. Since it's matches the kernal on Hellcat's page, I thought this is the kernal version.
So now I have to find a kernal version for my PDA version? And what is the difference between cf-root and the hellcat's kernals?
Thanks.

my advice to you, being a 2 months old newbie myself, is to read for a few days around XDA. you can learn alot and make sure you don't mess things up.
and get yourself a JIG off ebay ASAP. It's like 2 bucks, and it's worth it.
I myself, flashed CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KH1-v4.1-CWM4 on my SII and than plugged JIG to get rid off the yellow triangle. It was easy. For now I'm running like that on stock to get familiar in android cos this new to me (former iPhone user). After a "test/learning" mode I'll probably flash Galnet MIUI.
my version of device is:
android version 2.3.3
baseband version I9100xxkg5
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100jpkh1-cl453266 [email protected]dell140 #2
build number gingerbread.jpkh1
and that's why I flashed the "KH1" version cos I'm still unsure the other "close/similar" versions I can flash on my device.
If there is an exact version of CF-Root for your version flash that one and follow CFs instructions on the first page of his thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399).
hope this helps. If you have any other specific questions ask here and if I now the answer, I'll help.
cheers.

I have only ever used CF-Root for rooting so I can't comment on Hellcat etc but what I can say is that all the information required for CF-Root is in Chainfire's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
It specifically states how to find out which file to use at the bottom of the very 1st post.
I was totally new to all this rooting and flashing firmware business until I found the XDA forum and I can only speak from personal experience but I have found that as long as you read, read then read again and follow the instuctions to the absolute letter you shouldn't have any difficulties.
Thanks for the tip man but I can't find cf-root KJ2 for my phone. I tried searching and failed. I'll keep looking.
Ive rooted my phone via odin. Flashed cf root kernel kf1 to remove the yellow triangle. But as i was about to flash the rom using cwm recovery mode, its opening up to a "manual mode", hence i cant flash the roms. Any ideas what might cause this?
I have rooted my SGS2 (xwkg1). I didn't know the first thing about it, and found this forum to be the best of knowledge for playing around with my phone.
If you research enough you will find the right post showing a step by step way to root your phone (so easy) and flash ROMs. I am ready to play the ROM game now..

I am confused in choosing the kernal for my phone. You see my baseband version shows XXKI4 which matches a kernal back there, it confuses me alot. But my kernal version shows JPKJ2, for which I can't find a kernal. Whole lot of confusion in choosing a matching kernal.. =(
Will GT-I9100_XWKJ2_insecure work for my kernel version JPKJ2?
And I found this kernel too; CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v5.0-CWM5.zip
Chainfire said XW and the initial doesn't matters if it's KJ2. But mine's JPKJ2

There are several posts which say that CF-Root kernel XX_KI4 and XW_KI8 will work fine on JPKJ2.
So, use one of them to root your phone as long as Chainfire is absent.
As soon as he posts a CF-Root kernel for KJ2, you can easily flash this kernel over the "older" one.

Please take time to read as:
Help! Which file do I use ?
Listen closely, for I will say zis only once!
Go to Settings -> About phone -> Kernel Version. Note the string present there:
2.6.35.7-I9100XXKG1-CL349526
What matters most (KG1) in this case, is in bold. Try to find the matching file under downloads:
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4.zip
The XX and OXA identifiers are not that important. Usually a "KG1" kernel is a "KG1" kernel, and that is that. Sometimes (pretty rare) it happens there will be multiple different kernels with the same name in different firmwares, that are actually different. If this happens, they are usually only very minor changes and you should expect them to still be fully compatible. I include the "XX" and "OXA" identifiers so the very advanced users can deduce from which full firmware I have taken the kernel file.
Don't worry too much, just find the matching download and use it. What if there is no matching download ? You can ask me to make one, but I can tell you right now, I very very rarely make CF-Root's for kernels on request, unless it is the very latest kernel that has been released by Samsung. In the latter case, be sure to let me know. If there's no match and I'm not making one, try finding the closest match. You should treat "KG1" as a number, but instead of 1-9, we have 1-9, A-Z (where A would be 10, and Z would be 35). "KG2" is really close to "KG1", "KF1" is not close to "KG1" at all. I hope that makes sense.

[Q] Updating firmware with CF-Root

Hi there,
Total noob here, so bear with me.
I recently bought a SGS2 and flashed it with CF-Root without any problem to KJ3.
Now, I saw there's this new KK2/5, with 2.3.6, and I was thinking about updating, if possible using CWM Manager. I guess I should follow the steps in the second part of this post.
Now my questions are:
1. Do I need to flash first the stock firmware? Or can I just directly flash the new CF-Root?
2. What does "factoryfs ("system") is mandatory part at the moment. " mean?
3. I noticed there is no stock KK5 in Intratech's thread so far (just a Frankenstein, still not completely sure what that means). Does that mean I cannot use KK5 CF-Root? Should I better go with KK2?
4. Can I flash directly CF-Root kernel and the rest of the stock firmware together? Or should I first flash the full stock FW and then flash CF-Root? Would I lose root and CMW then? That would mean I'd have to flash CF-Root via Odin, right?
5. Last stupid question. Where is the thanks button??
Thanks everyone.
1. You need stock firmware, CF-Root only gives kernel.
3. As previously answered, CF-Root goes side by side with stock ROM, if there's no stock ROM available for latest CF-Root, get a lower version.
4. You should flash first stock, then CF-Root. You will loose root & CWM.
5. The thanks button is just below this answer, near the Quote button.

I'd recommend you flash the stock firmware as there may be incompatibilities with the Kernel and existing PDA , MODEM and CSC. Plus no one just uses the newer kernel ppl flash / upgrade the entire firmware so that they can actually kernel is like the heart of the system responsible for power distribuation and stuff. PDA is the main firmware component UI sortof like the middleware .

CWM is usually used to flash the kernel or zImage files. For flashing entire firmware via SD card i'd recommend Mobile Odin Pro by Chainfire which consumes the entire tar file and keeps root intact. This'll change your firmware and kernel while keeping you rooted just flash a CF-Root after that.

Frankenstein is just a combination of different Modem/CSC(Usually Multi) and PDA of the latest firmwares which is combined for the best performance is most importantly Non-Wipe ROM. Intra usually puts in a Multi-CSC for several region's use.

Just left most button on the right side of this post is activated for a forum when you post for the first time.
Thanks Az,
I can't see the Thanks button in any other thread. Do I have to write first before it becomes available?
So, if i need the stock kernel first, what are the instructions in the post I linked (CF-Root v5.0: Upgrading your firmware) for? Flashing full firmwares that already have CF-Root included? Wouldn't that be the same as if I got the other FW files (phone, CSC) from stock and added the CF-Root kernel (pda)?
Any idea about question #2?
Thanks again.
At first follow the instructions in this thread and flash kk2 or kk5 as you want the newest ;p : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Then when you flashed a full new firmware from that guide you can proceed to the instructions of CF-root with the matching kernel (kk2 or kk5 just the same version as you chosen in the previous step) from that topic to flash and gain root and CWM.
CF-root is only a kernel that is modified, so it is only a small part of a firmware but with nice extra features added.

Yeah it activates in the forum/thread you write in .....
yup stock kernels are signed by samsung and hence are requred for flasing over CF_Root kernels. as they remove the yellow triangle. factoryfs simply stands for factory file system it is recommended to include in case the newer firmware has a change in the file system / tables if you don't include it while flashing firmware using CWM you might end up bricking your phone. But the FW flashing process through CWM is pretty complicated and cumbersome i use odin as it is a simple job.
Thanks, everyone. Sorry for the crosspost, digi. When I saw your answer, I couldn't edit it for five minutes because I'm too new.
Anyway, I would try Mobile Odin Pro, but the country I'm in doesn't support paid apps, so it shows as incompatible with my device...
The only reason I'd wanted to use CMW was in order to avoid the flash counter (which is stupid because it is already on 2 or 3, I guess) and the yellow triangle removal process. So I guess it is not much of a problem.
Ok, so here's another question. What is this non-wipe stuff? It means I don't need to factory reset the phone after flashing?
Also, would you guys reccommend to use the Frankenstein FW with KK5 and the CF-Rooting to KK5? If these Frankenstein FW are created for better performance, the only difference is that they're not the stock configuration and won't allow me to update via Kies, but otherwise should give a better experience, right?
Sorry for being a scary cat, I just don't want to break my phone too quickly.

Most of the stock roms provided directly are wipe means they reset the system SD card when flashed. Intratech removes the script from the ROM specifically from the Frankenstein. About CF's Mobile Odin there are other ways to get it PM ChainFire himself for it and just give him a beer offline. Any flash of a different region via Odin will not allow you to update via KIES for that you need to flash the stock ROM of your specific region and then update it to the new ROM for your region it will as it is be provided by intratech in his thread eliminating the use of KIES entirely.
Nice, thanks. I've been reading on CF Mobile Odin, maybe I'll contact him and give it a try then.
So, any reason I should not flash the newest Frankestein FW and then root it with CF-Root?
Also, if CSC doesn't have anything to do with the supported languages, what does it do exactly? I read it is specific region settings, what if my carrier is not included? Would that be a problem? I live in China, using China Mobile.
Thanks, guys.

Sorry weekend pretty busy
Nope no reason why you should'nt ........ Frankenstein is pretty much stock only a bit tweaked .... personally i never flash CSC for my region ...... yea they are supposed to provide APN settings and all but for you guys there in china there have been certain issues .... i would recommend you flash the CSC after you flash the ROM your region's CSC would be available in the frankenstien section as well .... just ensure after flashing the ROM everything is in order.
Thanks digi. I almost forgot about this thread. I ended up flashing Frankenstein KK5 and then Siyah Kernel to give it a try. I didn't flash CSC, but I haven't had any problem. It seems APN settings are grabbed from the network or the SIM or something. I have no idea. What are the issues you referred to in China?
I am trying to find my way into a Chinese forum, but my limited Mandarin is making things difficult. After reading a lot, I arrived to the conclusion that most problems (battery, connectivity, gps lock...) are carrier/location related (I mean, if you flash correctly and everything seems to be running fine). So I thought I should try getting some local information. Hope I can achieve something, because I am getting really poor battery when wifi is on...
Is there any place where one can compare modem/kernel/rom/battery performance in relation to location/carrier. I think that would be sooo useful. Maybe I should give MIUI a try, since it is Chinese...
