I'm having some serious lag on my class 10 32GB card and it takes like 10 seconds to load gallery. This started on the Ba2tf cm7 rom. It didn't do it before. I'm guessing the read ahead is below 3072KB. Otherwise I suppose I/O is lacking on the latest CM7 rom?

It took me 4 seconds to load the Gallery with a 32GB class 4 on Weekly 4, not too bad. It only takes half a second with QuickPic though and I like QuickPic better anyways.
I think you want SD Speed Increase from the market.

Thanks! On the previous build it was always instantly fully loaded. This class 10 card really performs excellent. It's a Wintec from newegg and I get about 15MB/s writing from windows 7. On smaller files it'll down to like 5MB/s but that's normal I suppose. Anyway I'm thinking either I/O rates are poor in the latest stable release or the read ahead it at like 1024KB. At least from my tests on my HD2, I always saw best performance and instant gallery loads at 3072KB, at least on my class 10 card.
I'll give that market app a shot. They usually have to be compatible with the kernel. We will see.

yeah, performance seems poor when copying flac music files that are like 20-40MB per file say 1.5GB worth. I get like 5MB/s when on that last stable cm7 release I'd see up to 8-9MB/s on FLAC files writing from windows 7. I got up to 18MB/s write on big files and on the Ba2tf I'm getting like 12-15MB/s. I just wonder what happened to the I/O system on the ba2tf build over the previous? I guess I may be alone on this, or no one cares or notices a 3-5MB/s reduction in writes from windows 7. I'm running a Wintec 32GB class 10 card. I'll stick with ba2tf since there are a few minor improvements however there are some I/O rate losses so it's a hard choice for me. I'll reinstall the last build again and test it out and then compare.

BTW - 3072KB seems to work ok. Looked like by default it was at 128KB?!?

Is it just write a txt file and attach to the system folder? I lose my usb wire, so i would like some wireless solution.

same with me, I'm using an 8gig card my friend got with his DX (pretty sure it's class 2 or legacy from before the class system). This tweak seems to have sped up my write speed by almost a full mbs/s and my read speeds have gone up even more,

I'm running a Sandisk 32GB Class 2 (yup, you read that right). The SD Tool readings before the script is implemented seems to be fairly high, but they slack considerably after......
My readings are wild! Here's what I got, note that each time I run the test I use a task killer to clear running apps. Blue indicates readings prior to script implementations.

This tweak is already applied in wolfbreak's ROM
I manage to set it till 3mb/s buffer, and latest version of sd tools( with improve and stability of testing speed version), had state my stock sd card (may be class 2-4?) had stable writing speed of 5mb/s (6mb max, but quite uncommon), and with 20mb/s reading speed, which looks more sense than previous diagnose than 3mb/s of writing speed and reading of FREAKING 50 mb/s of speed.
Overall, yes, it match the rumor, it "SLIGHTLY" improve the speed of SD card, but better than nothing ~hey!!!with the moded stock camera i and better writing speed of sd card, I manage get a better FPS on HD recoding, now i can throw my wvga out to my android.
my ressults :
Write speed: 377.7 MB/s
Read speed: 1.524 MB/s

So, everybody(somebody)((nobody)), explain to me the advantages of ext4 w/o journaling. I understand that write speeds for sd cards(?) is supposed to be better. My question is, where do we see the advantages? I ran an antutu benchmark on my phone and the write speeds were not the insane 150mb/s-ish write speed scores that Neutrino did when he posted that photo on his thread a while back, something more like a class 10 score IIRC. Anybody that can shed some light on this will receive my thanks!

He explains well about boosting sd cards speed. You can do that by using Rom Toolbox which you can download in the Market. If you want to try it with Rom Toolbox, it's under Performance -> SD Boost and you'd like to change the default value, normally 128, to 1024 or 2048.

Everything just runs faster and smoother. You may not notice it, but if you revert back to a stock ROM, you will feel frustrated as it'll feel much slower/choppier.
And those insane write speeds were due to GT-S mod, not because of Ext4.

I use a 8 GB Class 4 MicroSD card on my SGP 5.0 and while I'm listening to podcasts, which are saved on said card, and I start to do some other things, like browsing web pages, the whole system freezes and the only thing I can do at that point is to do a soft restart pressing down the power button for 10 seconds or so.
I'm thinking that the transfer speed of my MicroSD card is not good enough.
Since I have no experience with speed rates and classes, do you think a Class 10 card would solve my problem?

I would rather say that maybe some apps had caused high occupancy rate of cpu ,since apps are commonly installed on internal sdcard.(This sdcard seems to be class6)
Probably the issue lays on read speed because I only have freezes when there's an app reading constantly files from the external MicroSD card even if that app is installed on internal memory.

I've always used a class 4 card without issues.. I've also tweaked the SD card so it's hitting class 6 speeds.
Does the device even have the capability to use a class 10 card to it's fullest potential?
Perhaps you haven't had any issues because of your tweaks. I would like to try that for mine, so if you don't mind, could you share a guide or a place where I can learn to do that?

I use "SD Tools" from the market to test speed. Go test the stock settings and see what you get. Then I use "System Tuner Pro" to adjust the SD card cache size under the "tweaks". Change it, go back to SD Tools and see what your speeds are.
I've gotten the best performance around 1024, YMMMV.

I apologize to all and sundry for being a noob, but must it seems post this here.
I have been testing GBX0C with the above phone on the 2degrees in New Zealand (GSM). I have found that the following odd behavior:
Adata 16GB class 10 & GBX0C = aprox 5 hours standby
Adata 8GB Class 6 & GBX0C = still going after 8 hours standby
Adata 16GB Class 10 & FRX07.1 = still going after 8 hours standby
To me this indicates some incompatibility between GBX0C and the 16GB SD.
Will logs be helpful to any one in this regard?

Battery usage is so random. Hardly anyone actually conducts a 'good' battery drain test - because usage patterns vary day to day.
Regardless, if your lower class smaller card gets better battery life - use it. Honestly the size of the card is probably meaningless, the class is more important here. I and many others have told people to stay away from higher class cards when using HaRET - there's no benefit, and you could potentially ruin the card. So why destroy a new fast card when an old slow one would probably work better?
Class measures raw speed, for sequential read writes. Operating systems use a lot of random read/writes, so you want a card that is best at that. In all my heads up tests of my cards, my 'classless' 2gb Sandisk card was the best.

Run FRX then? Not sure what you want me to tell you... You're comparing apples & oranges there as the kernels are different, and obviously userland is different as well.
There are several kernels for GBX0C. Perhaps you could try all of them, and see if one works better for you.

I have spent some time testing different cards, I got a 16GB sandisk class 4 (was the lowest class 16GB I could find on Trademe.co.nz) it also uses battery fast but is better than the ADATA. I have noticed some other odd behavior:
I have Identical copies of GBX0C on the 2 16gb and the 8GB SDs. I have been booting each in turn and comparing.
They each have a media folder with my custom Notifications & ringtones folders in them, at the Root of the SD. but the system will not show these on the 16GB cards, also "handsent" gives me an error when I try to set music as a notification "no music files or SD card not present" there is plenty on there.
The 8GB card has none of these issues. but it is alot slower.
I know I could just get an 8GB sandisk and it would probably help. and I know I can copy the media folder to the system folder.
I have attached logs for the 2 different sized cards they do seem very different.

Have you formatted them to fat32? Have you formatted them with the HP tool? Can you see any data, or are you just missing the music? Do they work fine in other phones/computers?

The music can be accessed by "Folder Player", and you can see them in "Astro" it only appears to be in relation to "Handsent" so far as I can see and the "Music" app I have just noticed, lists no songs. it is very odd.

Yes, very well in fact. I don't have another phone to test them with, just my PC.
I'm still running a sandisk 32 gig class 4 card. While getting ready for ICS I backed up everything, including copying the card to my PC. I noticed how much stuff is on it from apps and such, that it makes me question....
Does the microSD card speed have any impact on how the bolt performs? Will it be faster or have less lag with one of those newer Sandisk UHS cards?
The only benefit you will see is faster read write speeds to the SD card. You would probably have to increase the read ahead buffer to get the full benefits.

And that is part of my question.
I guess my thought process is... With the newer card having faster read/write speeds, I would think that any access the phone does of data/apps stored on the car might be faster. And with all the .Android_secure, android and other files/folders the bolt stores on the card (as opposed to internal memory), that isn't pictures or ring tones, I was wondering if it could make a noticeable impact on the performance of the phone or installed apps.
Has any one tried? Is there a way to measure or verify any improvements? I guess I'm looking for reassurance it will make a worth while difference before I go an spend money on another card.
As for the read ahead buffer, is that something that is easy to modify? how would that be done?
It in theory would make viewing pictures and stuff on the sd card faster. As for apps I'm not real sure. You can download apps like Rom toolbox that let you change the read ahead buffer but I think the thunderbolt maxes out at 4096. Anything faster will just default to that speed. To test it use one of the benchmark apps like antutu.
