Reset counter - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

If I'm rooted and have Unamed Rom installed and I use a jig to get rid of the dreaded yellow triangle, will it do a factory reset? Will I have to re root and re flash? Or does the root stay intact?

You will not lose root, you will not lose any data either all the Jig does is get rid of the dreaded yellow exclamation point and will tell you Reset Counter. I did this after I rooted my phone when I was running the stock launch rom.
HTH,
Charlie

If you have a jig then go for it... But it sounds a if you don't yet have one. In that case make a nand backup, flag with Odin the rooted stock rom... This will remove the yellow triangle. Then use mobile Odin to flash cwm and finally restore. It sounds difficult but it really wasn't. It's a good alternative if you dint want to get a jig and you only care about the triangle and not the counter

Flash counter to zero!

So my phone has been acting up lately and I was thinking of returning it howver I had the nasty yellow triangle and my flash counter was at one. So I needed a jig. I said forget it Ill deal with it. Well I decided to take out the battery as a means of fixing the issues i was having and when I placed the battery back in the phone booted into download mode and my flash counter read zero. I still have root access I still have CWR and I can still flash custom roms and the counter is at zero and there is no yellow triangle it is the stock att gs2 boot up. Idk what happened but I removed the battery wiped off some dust and boom no more triangle and a flash counter at zero with a jig and by complete accident! lol anyone got an explanation?
No idea what happened, but seems to me like you got lucky!

[Q] Bit of a mess after unrooting

Hi,
Today I decided to root my device and tried out AOKP build 3, i decided that it was good but I just prefered the feel of stock and I wanted to unroot and lock the bootloader back up. So i did but installing it through mobile Odin because when I tried to install the firmware though the computer it would just keep freezing and failing basically. When I was following this guide (http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-unroot/how-to-unroot-galaxy-s3-i9300/) I did everything but the triangleaway bit. I decided to skip it because i wasn't sure if my firmware was supported. So I thought I would just live with it till I got to the software updater thing and was told that it can't update because the device is modified. So now it appears I will have to re root and install this tool then flash the firmware and factory reset it. My question is, will it be safe use triangle away on the JRO03C.I9300XXDLIB firmware. Or even better, has anyone actually tried it. Yes i know, I am pretty weird but I am more of a stock man myself.
Thanks,
Yes, go ahead with triangle away.

From what i read with triangle away disclaimer its pretty risky but i havent actually seen anyone horror stories. Also, i dont know how well kies isbit supposed to work but for me its useless. Never finds the device and has all my data backed up on it.

Yet to read of actual problem with TA despite the warnings .
jje
Triangle Away will reset the counter, but won't set status to Normal. If you are not comfortable with using Triangle Away, you may simply do a factory reset which should set the status back to Normal (but not the counter though).
BTW I have used Triangle Away many times without any problem.
Ok Thanks. Will try later today. My only thought isbit when i previously wioed all data and dud the factory reset frim the bootloader it loaded into a stock JB rom like a factory reset but its still says modified. Is that because i have not run triangle away yet?

and so of course Kies won't connect for me. Any tips on getting it to work. Tired restarting phone, troubleshoot guide, everything. Just want it so I can restore all my data to my phone.
Precondition: rooted phone
You need to follow these steps:
- get stock firmware from samfirmware.com
- use Triangle Away to reset the counter
- flash firmware downloaded earlier
- factory-reset the device (this includes internal sdcard on stock recovery!!!)
- done

[Q] USB Jig

Hello,
I've just got myself a USB Jig! And I turn off my phone and plug it in. The phone goes into download mode but the flash counter doesn't reset
Any reason why this is? Cause I don't wanna use triangle away as I am scared of bricking my phone. I'm running Super Nexus ROM with Syiah kernel.

The USB jig couldn't reset the binary counter because you have a new bootloader. USB jig only works on older bootloader.
I seriously don't know why you are so scared of triangle away app. I've used it many times for myself and friends.
Read the instruction on the OP very well, then use the app.
Happy Independence Day!
The last time I used Sammy kernel was when I reverted my phone to stock before going to JellyBean. What I did was I flashed my S2 with the bootloader came from Gingerbread days. Luckily my JIG reset my counter but recently people suggest the triangle away app rather than flashing an old bootloader.

flashing/changing Bootloader is a messy thing compared to using the well known method ie 'Triangle Away app' ma8
Thanks all, I used the triangle away app and it worked great! I was just kinda scared as it says it can break your phone in the description and when you click to reset the counter. But I'm super pleased now, thanks a bunch

Going back to my stock ROM and kernel

Hi guys, i'm going to sell my galaxy s2 and the buyer want it all stock. I'm using the cm10 ROM on it. I've already downloaded the factory stock firmware on sammobile.com. Until there everything was ok, but now I'm not sure about the way to flash the stock firmware. Should I flash it by clockworkmod, as the customs Roms I've flashed before? Or should I flash it by Odin, like an unrooted phone?
Since now, thanks a lot for your help

Flash it via Odin as PDA
Then wipe all in recovery

when doing this, will the yellow triangle go away, phone get unrooted, and flash counter reset to 0?
cus im sure the buyer would want any avaliable warranty back aswell.
It would probably be good to reset counter before flashing, maybe with Triangleaway. Once i flashed original rom over custom with MobileOdin. Everything went well.

No, to reset counter and remove triangle you can do it either with a usb jig or by downloading chainfire app "triangle away" (Search it on the play store")

When u're flashing samsung stocks it'll does full wipe include rom itself, kernel, root, user data & caches then turn all to factory value. So don't even too worries about all u said above. But it worth to use stock 4.0.3 & avoid stock 4.0.4 in case to avoid emmc superbrick bug if u still doubt about advancing..

If you flash a "samsung official rom" it will take the triangle away but it does not reset the counter.
I have flashed CM9 CM10 and 2.3 stock , 4.0 stock a few times and my count is at 7, each time i flash stock the triangle goes away but the counter keeps counting.

[Q] [HELP] Reset Flash Counter on bricked phone (no triangle away)

I have my S3 in a Revolution HD v51 custom rom. Everything was working very smooth until the phone all the sudden crashed and never passed the sammy screen again.
I tryed varies reflashes, recoveries roms etc. it seems it cant mount the internal sd. I've been reading for hours about possible solutionsI'm guessing some hardware error.
Is there a way to reset flash counter WITHOUT triangle away?
Any method or suggestion welcome. since the phone is already screwed.

Please take a look at this thread, may be it would help.

all you gotta do is downgrade your bootloader to the one other than the JB bootloader and follow the steps as mentioned on the guide so that the JB bootloader would not set the flash counter to an integer again other than 0.
