The special SIM card is meant for the NFC functionality per T-Mo rep.

You don't need a special sim card just a newer one that's made for 4g. And you don't actually "need" it , I was able to use WiFi with my older gen sim.
I think its mostly for bete 4g connection.
I noticed a major dif in the phone when I put in the updated sim card.
Just ask tmo for a new sim I'd you don't have one, they shouldn't charge you for it, but then again....lol

I only got WiFi calling working after I got the TM9177 sim card. When I called tmobile they told me I could get one at their store for $20. Ended up getting one on Amazon for $7 with free shipping. I am on energy's latest ROM with stock kernel and WiFi calling works perfectly.
Well it would be perfect if I could send mms over WiFi calling. Has anyone been able to get this to work? A Google search for "TM9177 WiFi calling mms" shows that there are at least a few people that have been sending mms over WiFi. I get very spotty reception inside my apartment and this would be an awesome improvement to this already awesome phone.

I just think it's that particular ROM with some WiFi calling issues. MMS doesn't work over WiFi calling and texting over WiFi calling has issues too. Bullet Proof is working for WiFi calling including MMS that's what I'm currently on until those issues get ironed out.

Are you trying to use voip? What problem are you having, be more specific.
Okay I switched to Family Mobile (with walmart) and when I try to turn on Wifi calling this shows up:
W006. 15 ISP or T-Mobile network error
I don't know why because Family mobile uses T-Mobile satellites so why isn't it working??

What is wifi calling?
Wifi calling is using a wifi connection to magnify the strength of your phones calling and messaging signal!

It seems like wifi calling is not supported by Family Mobile. You might want to call customer support to see if they can help you set it up. Though it uses t-mobile, t-mobile network recognized that you are not their customer.
Walmart Family Plan Wi-Fi calling (T-mobile app)
I have the same problem and have been searching all around for a fix for this. Also updates to Mytouch? Wounder how to get any future updates
Anybody got this working yet?
Anyone tried Portable WiFi Hotspot application that comes with the phone?
I don't have a tethering plan, but when I enable it and connect to it, it doesn't even take to the T-Mobile page where it says I need to purchase a tethering plan. Just wondering if that's normal.
I thought this application worked on the Sensation for free.
Many people in the SGS2 forum are reporting being able to tether when using an older Sim card (not the one that cane with the phone)

Just tried an older sim in the Amaze, same result as the new sim. On my browser it's T-Mobile telling me that I need tethering on my account. Appears to be from the phone, not the SIM.

I can connect to my phone, but when I open a browser on my PC, it doesn't take me to the tether website. So what I'm saying is that something may be broken on my Amaze.

just came from the store again .. same rsults neither the sgs2 or amaze with either new or old sims have "free" hotspot.. you can however have it for 15 a month.. tmobile just became at&t
There is something going on that hasn't yet been figured out about tethering. Apparently its not the sim cards because people have varying results with new and old cards. It has something else to do with the phone or the account. And I'm not referring to whether it has been added to the plan.
Also, I'm seeing the same results reported for the sgs2 and the amaze.

I currently have CM7 on it anyway, and tethering works just fine. I think the Sensation is supported by CM as well. Then you don't have to worry about an OTA that disables it.

Are you going to swap sim cards or have two accounts? Would be nice if you could at least dup the sim card and just use one phone powered up at a time without having to swap cards. If I had multiple sims for the same account I would do the same thing with my two nexus ones.

if you are in USA or Canada you can use google voice but there isn't much option elsewhere
i use viber
IF you have a Google Voice account use GrooveIP. It's like 5 bucks, but makes calls over WiFI using a VoIP protocol. Works like a champ.
And since it's data based you can leave it on and make calls via data over HSAP(+).
there's a free version of GrooveIP in the market too. It only does wifi calls and there's some other limitations, but it's worth looking at.
Um if you ask T-Mobile WiFi calling doesn't use plan minutes.

Funny because i bought GrooveIP to avoid minuets being deducted from my plan.
I can tell you i used WiFi calling exclusively at the house and it did draw minuets.
and
GrooveIP can also be installed onto non cell radio Android Devices, Tablets, cell phones with no SIM card and can be made to make/receive phone calls. Pretty awesome calling people from my Transformer, with the help of BT headset.

I gave up on that thing about six weeks ago. Now I use Viber. It works in any country I've been in, on wifi or cellular data.
T-Mobile WiFi calling is tied up in the kernel, to my knowledge you would need a custom kernel for it to work, or a hack that adds the necessary data to the kernel to make it work. I have a T-Mobile HD2 and when I was using it , tons of kernel modding went into making WiFi calling because of course the hd2 wasn't originally android and it needed a modded kernel to make it work, and even after it working it wasn't very stable .
RoloRacer Paranoid on JellyBean
I've been searching for weeks as well and came up with nothing. I've read that it's part of the kernel, part of the TouchWiz framework, etc. Seems there's way too many factors to get the native wifi calling for t-mobile. Apparently, back in the day t-mobile was using GAN based wifi calling, and it was an app. People got it to work on the t-mobile sensation 4g, but that's an HTC phone so it won't work for us. I was reading up on a thread in the galaxy s2 forums of some devs trying to get the native wifi calling on that device (FYI, tmo now uses an IMS based wifi calling structure) and there's a lot of work involved, including modifying some of the framework files, the phone apk and the settings apk.
The best solution at this point is to just flash the Tmo Note stock ROM in the Tmo Note Dev forum. User Tomin.fhl was kind enough to make it flashable and wifi calling works great for me on that. Just wish I was able to use AOKP or PA with wifi calling though
Yeah, I figured out how to get it done, just flash the TMobile stock ROM which is fine with me since I'm on TMobile and actually like the stock... Then you need a new Sim.
Sent from my SGH-T879 using Tapatalk 2
Dont you need the AWS chip for that stuff, isnt this a hardware limitation??????
Whatever you need is already built into our phones. I have been using the tmobile WiFi calling feature in my at&t note for a while now. No problems.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
If you follow the instructions to flash any stock based T-Mobile ROM onto your i717, it will be there. You need a new SIM though.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
GrooVeIP will let you do voip (3g and wifi)
just make sure to set your gvoice account to use your email address as the primary number.
voila! incoming and outgoing voip calls (works for every carrier i've come across)
Wondering if anyone has seen anything on this for the note? I recently moved and tmobile service sucks but I get a good wifi signal in my apartment! Just wondering if there is any other solutions besides gvoice...I get free minutes when I use wifi calling also with tmobile so it would be awesome if it could be incorporated.
Yeah, while there are 3rd party solutions like GrooveIP, the best solution is to follow the link I posted and flash the T Mobile note img file and install the tmobile stock ROM which includes the true tmobile WiFi calling feature.

If you follow the link, toward the bottom of the first post there are instructions on running T-mobile ROM's on the i717. Follow those and you won't have any problems. I also have the at&t version, I believe though, you will have to be on the t-mobile network.

Might want to make a guide on how to do this. I feel like the T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling is in silent but in high demand by unlocked users.
I'm curious...if the T-Mobile stock ROMs work, why wouldn't a custom ROM for Tmobile also work? Has anyone tried?
While I was on a call the other day I decided to browse the internet during the call....FAIL
I wondered if there was something wrong with my phone so I tried it on another call after I restarted my phone and still not internet during call. I called T Mobile to ask them about this and they told me that the HTC One does not support that feature.
That just sound crazy to me because I was able to do it with my 2 year old myTouch 4g.
Has anybody else tried or experienced the same?
Does anybody know any information or a fix to this?
I searched around the threads for a while to see if anybody noticed this or made a thread about it but I didn't see anything. If there is other information regarding this please direct me.

I believe that what you experienced is just a general, minor Android bug. I've owned numerous devices, and everything from the mytouch 4G, to the Nexus 4, has given me a rare issue where sometimes when I'm making a call, I'll try to load the web, and see that I have no data. In order to regain my data, I'll have to end the call, wait a few moments for the data to fully restore itself, and then I can make the call again and use the web.

I think it is normal for data connection to not work properly right after your phone/IMEI/SIM is first activated with T-Mobile's system..... always takes a reboot.

Glad you got it to work. That rep you talked to was indeed clueless: browsing data while on a call isn't a "feature"; it's how the freaking network works. All GSM/UMTS/HSPA+ networks allow you to do this (in the US, this is tmo/att). CDMA networks work differently and don't allow EVDO use (3G) while on call. I think most verizon phones with LTE do allow you to use LTE and voice at the same time, though it might depend on the exact baseband setup. CDMA, blech.
