ONLY Issues no fun :( - Nokia Lumia 800

Hi
I have purchased Nokia Lumia 800 and had set it up with my Live ID ( Country India). My Zune account also has country set to India.
I am on windows 8 and my country on windows 8 PC is also set to India. From the info i got from internet, i see that one can change country on windows OS on PC and also the country attached with Live account but not with Zune account.
Now I have 2 problems.
1. If everything is set to India i don't see "Marketplace" option in Zune.I also cant see the SIGN IN option on right top.
However if i change country on my Windows PC to US then i can see "Marketplace" option in Zune.
2. So forcefully i have to set country on my PC to US and when now i try sign in to Zune i get error message as shown below.
The location settings for your windows live ID doesn't match the settings for your computer. Why SO ???
what i am supposed to do now ? How do i purchase apps if i want to ???

BUMP !!! please help friends !!!!

Firstly, this is a general Windows Phone issue, not a Lumia issue, you would get more response in the WP forum.
Secondly, as to your issue:
Microsoft enforces regional policies, so that apps/music/videos are available only to those users in Markets where they have the rights to sell them. USA/UK etc have everything, Singapore (where I am) has apps, but nothing the way of music.
Sounds like India is like Singapore so far.
You are getting the error because the country you used to sign up for your LIVE ID account does not match your location on your computer - the obvious solution is to sign up for another LIVE ID account, using USA as your country. (If the country is auto-detected then you will likely have to VPN into the USA to fool the LIVE ID sign-up process to thinking you are actually in the USA. Try a free VPN service like Expat Shield).
So, assume you have signed up for a new LIVE ID, then you have to hard reset your phone, and use your new ID when you start your phone. Of course, you will lose any xbox achievements, contacts, emails etc... although for contacts and emails you can add your other LIVE ID as 2nd/3rd accounts.
Finally, once you have your LIVE ID and PC both set to USA, you will probably get the USA marketplace.
However, without a US credit card registered to a US address, you probably still won't be able to purchase anything.

thanks for your response..so even after going through this entire process if i am not able to purchase apps then what is the point in doing this ?
Looks like there is no solution for this and this is why Google is best :|
So now that i have developer unlocked my phone..i will just side load apps even if i don't wish to do

is find my phone working? it took me 24 hrs to get find my phone working and then I can buy apps.

I have not tried that and dont think it has anything to do here..I can /have purchased apps from phone..but i cant from Zune..read my OP.

Just a quick google tells me that there is an app marketplace in India, just no music/videos, same as the rest of the world outside US and EU.
So, try setting your PC back to India again to view app marketplace.
Also, what happens when you go to maketplace on your phone? Can see any apps or not?

1. If i set PC to India, I dont even see MARKETPLACE (on left top) and SIGN-IN (on right top) in ZUNE.
2. No matter what country i set(INDIA or US), be it PC , Live ID or Phone, i can make app purchase from Phone.

I've just been through this drama for NZ and after first getting a glimpse of the US marketplace via my 12 year old Live ID, I then had to create a new ID before I could get it to work with my local credit card.
At that point Music and Podcasts disappeared and only apps and videos remain. Not very happy about that, but I'm assuming MS is going to make it work here eventually... better be long before I replace this phone!
I was also unable to add my credit card to the new account, but that was resolved by a very pleasent guy from Zune support who called me and spent 20 minutes sorting it out on the phone. I found that guy by going to the Zune Support page and initiating a chat. They will call you if it is going to be easier to do over the phone.
The fact I have to use a enw Live ID is pissing me off thogh because it completely wastes my old account, which I've used everywhere and has loads of stuff attatched to it. Who wants to get all their messenger contacts moved to another ID?? arrghh! Now I have to run two accounts.
Anyhow.. the point here is to get hold of them through the Zune Support web page... look it up.

I have talked this with Zune support via Live Chat and they informed me that Zune Marketplace is NOT yet enabled for my country and hence my situation will remain as it is. !!!!

[MOD] MarketAccess.apk

I'm using the MarketAccess app with latest market version and it works flawless. I did not liked the original icon and also the fact that the icon title was not spanning properly on the screen. So I edited the original .apk and replaced the icon as well the title.

Is there any basic guide on how to best use this?
MarketAccess is a branch of MarketEnabler. Personally, I use its very basic function.
With the Market closed, I go to:
Market Access > Providers > T-Mobile
Then, I open the Market and install any US restricted apps. Once I'm done with it, I reboot the phone and the default settings are automatically restored. As I said, pretty simple and basic.
From what I understood, you did not create this, (correct me if I'm wrong ) therefore it doesnt belong in the development section

What kind of useful apps are US only?
My favorite are:
Amazon Mobile
Google Books
Google Music
Google TV Remote
Netflix
Not sure if Books are now open to everyone, they just added Google Videos to Canada.
Personally, I live 45min from the US border and I have an US address/credit card. We have Netflix in Canada but the selection really sucks, compared to US.
I use a E4200 DD-WRT router as PPTP server with US IP's to all my devices (Google TV, mobile, tablet, etc.) when I'm at home. For example, you need an US IP to upload your music to Google Music site but you can use any IP to download/broadcast Music/Video's to any of your mobile devices. I know is not easy, but is worth the trouble. It really sucks that we have all those restrictions.
At least I can get all my music anywhere, without taking any space on my mobile.

Credit is clearly given into OP, I certainly hope is not going to ruin your day.
I saw many mods posted here (if you can call my change a mod... took me 2min to modify the APK), so I think is the best place for it, since is not related to Original Android development.
MOD = modification of an existing application created by someone else
There are tons of MOD threads listed in this forum, from what I saw.
Still, if I'm wrong, please let me know what would the the appropriate forum so I post there next time.
Cheers
Mate it seems to be working partially with the new market 3.1.5
You can see the currency changed to USD but you can't see the regional apps.
Could someone confirm this ?
Thanks.
It's true. I found a trick for this maybe it's too much of a headache but if you want to use new market then what you have to do is
1. Install market access.
2. Go emulate say for example t mobile.
3. Go to settings/applications/manage/ and then uninstall the updates for market. .
4. So now you have the old market. Now open the market.
5. Then wait for some time. Since it is connected to t-mobile it will update to new market.
6. Now you can download all the apps you want with new market.
The thing is it only works till restart. Then you have to repeat all the steps again.
Big hassle I know but if you absolutely have to use the new market then this is one way. Cheers.
P. S. Simply use old market with market access and freeze market updater using titanium backup to avoid all the hassle and use US APPS.

Can you give me an example of app that does not work?
I'll test it on my phone with Market 3.1.5 and let you know guys. So far all apps worked for me, I'm in Canada.
Edit: I think I know why is probably not working for some of you.
You need an US IP address as Wi-Fi spot. My DD-WRT router is set as PPTP server and broadcasts an US IP through wireless as well wired connections. So when my phone connects to the market, it does it through an US IP. Using the VPN directly into phone will not cut it.

Is there a new version for the latest Google Play ?

New app: Nokia Lumia Updates

In the General Windows Phone 7 Development forum, i've just released a beta of my new app: "Nokia Lumia Updates".
The app allows us to check and browse for new Lumia firmware directly on the device, like NDPM or Navifirm.

1. Added support for
RM-823 (lumia 900 AT&T)
RM-808 (lumia 900 international version)
RM-800C (lumia 800 chinese version)
2. Various bugfixes
To bad i have to pay for it.
I really would like to test the software before i buy it. Is there a way you can make it trial version because i'm not going to pay 1.99€ for a app that i don't even know if it works properly on my Lumia 800.
Thank You!
Nice suggestion, trial version is coming in the next days.

Selling an app that does what navifirm and the phone itself does for free ?
And $1.99 ? There are decent apps that are actually worth buying for less than $1
This should be a free app
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for devs making money from their apps, but not when they try to sell something that is available for free, especially when the phone already tells them if there is an update or not without the app
Nope. You cannot install navifirm on the phone, so unless you have a pc always with you, you cannot know when the update for your phone is coming out. And Nokia webservices are not wcf compatible, so i had to put an intermediate web service to fetch results to the phone. Webservices consume band and resources, for this reason its a paid app. Feel free to not buy it if you don't need it. 600 people around the world that bought it say the opposite.

I didn't say install Navifirm on the phone, I said Navifirm will tell you for free, and so will your phone.
You know that setting menu called "Phone Update" that is free and already on the phone.
You are selling a service that nokia already developed and gives away for free, I don't agree with that.
If you are going to sell something, at least earn it by creating it yourself, not pulling free info from nokia servers and claiming it to be your own invention.
Anyway, I'm not getting into an argument about this, I just think it is wrong.
Ad supported would be fine, you get a little extra for making the app and the user pays nothing for the already free service.
Again, the "Phone update" menu on the phone is not the same service, if you read other threads in this forum you can realize yourself.
For example: is tango (8773) available on phone update menu? Not yet. Is it available on Nokia Care servers? Yes it is and you can download it if you want. Are Nokia Care services available for free on PC? Yes they are, you can use Navifirm or other programs. Are they available on the phone? No because they are not wcf compliat, you have to wrap them in another web service that you must write yourself. But then you must host it on your own paid server, and the resulting app will be a paid one. I hope its clear now.

So does your app download and flash the update or do you still need Navifirm, NCS etc and a PC ?
If they still need a PC to flash the new firmware, what's the point of your app?
Maybe I will make a paid app that tells people when they have an email on their hotmail app on their phone
I`ll sell it for $1.99 because I will have to host some text and images to display info the phone already has.

There is an error in your logic here, but i'm pretty sure you've already seen it.
Your phone does not already have this info, you need an external program or app to get it.
You don't need an external program or app or service to read Hotmail, but you do if you want to know which firmwares are available on Nokia Servers.
As for your other question (do you still need a pc and Navifirm) the answer is: it depends on what you want to do.
There are three things you may want to do with Nokia firmwares:
1) KNOW which ones are out and which ones are not.
2) DOWNLOAD a firmware that you may want to flash
3) FLASH a firmware
Tipically, for all three things you would need a pc.
Specifically, you'll need a PC and Navifirm (or Nokia Data Package Manager) for 1 and 2 and Nokia Care Suite for 3. The point of the app is 1 and 2.
Without the app, if you want simply KNOW if there's is a new firmware available you must have a pc with those programs.
1) The app allows you to check this on the phone: no need for Navifirm or a PC, and it's a great thing because having to turn on a pc just to know if there are new things is a loss of time, especially if you're on the move and knowing that 99% of the times there will be no new things on Nokia Servers.
2) Should you find a firmware that sounds interesting, the app can send you download links to your email address. Put them in any download manager and the files will be ready when you're back home. So, no need for Navifirm or Data Package Manager for 2. You will need a PC for downloading, but no external programs.
3) Should you decide to flash your phone, you will need NCS and a PC, but that's not the point of the app.
So at the end the answer is:
- Do you need Navifirm : NO, never
- Do you need a PC : NOT for browsing, YES to download
- Do you need NCS : YES for flashing, NO for all the above.
Updated to version 2.8 (should be published in marketplace soon)

Google Play UK

Hello everybody,
I've been highly anticipating the arrival of Google Play in the UK ever since I heard of the cloud service where the user can store up to 20,000 songs from their personal library onto the cloud so they can access it on the browser and Android devices. On paper, it sounds amazing but as usual, there's an issue.
I've been trying to set it up all night but unfortunately it keeps asking me to create a Google Wallet account. I only have access to a Maestro debit card so I shoved in the 16 digit code only to find an error- 'Invalid credit card number' even though it states debit cards are supported. I can't seem to find a way around this so I'm pretty stuck. It's incredible how one of the largest companies in the world want my debit details in order to verify my location.
So, I'm wondering if there's a way past this. My iPod Classic is almost at the end of it's life and music is a very big part of my life so not being able to carry my 7000+ song collection around with me it's a real bummer.
Basically, any way around this or an alternative (Apart from anything that requires a subscription e.g Spotify)
Thank you,
Curtis

Hi CurtisAndroid5,
Thats just the start screen havent you got any music on your phone? it doesnt look like it.
Have you got the google music manager software installed on your pc? if not get it from here https://play.google.com/music/listen?u=0#manager_pl
Then upload some music from your pc to it and you can play it from your google play music app on your phone.
Just to note when uploading new music you need to refresh in settings in the app on your phone so it see.
yeah. you need to add the music to the cloud from your desktop computer before it shows up from your Google Music account
I know that. My problem is with setting up Google Wallet in order to register my account to allow me to use Play Music. I emailed Google and Maestro isn't accepted yet which resolves my issue as to why my card isn't accepted.

Mod edit: Removed paid app link
First, the app isn't working for me: probably, your host is blocked by my firewall. Second, I should be a complete idiot to stream my (private) camera via your host with insecure (however it's doesn't matter - even if you'' implement https - who knows, maybe you are owner of the some sort of "live porno" site, who knows?!) http connection. No way, sir!
Actually, the app only create one local port people cant just accesss it over the internet ( someone correct me if i am wrong), and the other there is NO HOST thing LOL. Everything is done within your local network only.
What happened when you tried? What is your phone model?

That means your app is buggy and can't detect real (internal or external) IP address of the handset connected to the router. It shows 172.20.20.20 (I just googled it: yes, it's not your IP but rarely used private adresses range - I have NO idea why you used it as a text template instead of common 127.0.0.1, for example).
Having bugs like this in the paid (and expensive for it's kind) app (JFYI, paid app promotion is against the xda rules) is also "NO WAY".
P.S. It doesn't really matter what handset model is used (it's your implementation bug!) but I used L-640 for test.

Hello dear sensboston, the app gets all the IPs that the phone is connected to ( this is not a text template the defaut xaml incode template is 0.0.0.0 haha) then show it in the links menu, but Windows Phone attaches the port to only one ip, my implementation is not buggy - this is Lumia 640 issue ( I can say that because I have a lot of email sent by user using this phone and bad reviews also).
sorry man maybe you will not be able to use the app not by my fault but by the way you are speeching you don't really need to, best regards.
Maybe you are right about L-640-specific bug but just tried (just in case!) on my L-920: it detects IP correctly but still doesn't work in Chrome
And, @myrcello, if you are writing something on the public forum, you should be ready not for the "thanks" only but for criticism too. Your app has too many issues for the paid app; you've posted paid app promotion on the enthusiasts forum - I believe it's a good reason to criticize your app.
Please read the article posted in the link below before posting any more paid apps on this site.

If the OS is Android 9 or higher a factory reset will purge any rootkit or malware on internal memory.
Isolate, purge.
New phone account, talk to the phone company tech support. Once that's change, the phone is factory reset and a new Google account is set up he shouldn't be able to hack you.
File a complaint with the FBI, it falls under their jurisdiction. They have the resources to pursue this.
