I've had my Rezound for just over two weeks and the MHL port housing is loose! I can literally flick the rectangle shaped black housing around with my finger
I purchased through Amazon as part of the Penny Pincher sale. Anyone else have this issue? I'm debating whether I should do a warranty exchange. When my phone vibrates it makes a loud noise due to this and I'm afraid it might get worse in the future.
Live with it or exchange?

Exchange. Having a function like that broken sucks, and mhl has been kind of finnicky for me anyway.

Exchange!!!
That is an important port used for everything. Charging, data hook up, output to TV etc...
My old phone's port got damaged and even though it wasn't a smart phone it sucked to not be able to hook it up as data and to have weak charging because of it. Had to buy an external battery charger for the last few months of owning it to keep it functional since it started having trouble charging at all. And then I had to copy each pic one at a time to the sd card so I could salvage them because I couldn't hook it up as data.
I also purchased mine for a penny from Amazon and mine has been trouble free.
My wife and I have had this problem on the 2 replacement phones we have each gotten from Amazon. The originals didn't exhibit this behavior. We are going to get two more replacements and hope that they don't show the same issue. It is the black plastic bezel around the port that is loose.
fyi, i don't think the plastic bezel is attached to the actual charging port... so if that's lose, it doesn't really matter as long as the port is soldered firmly to the board.

Exactly. I've had 2 Rezounds, same on both, it's just the bezel, not the port. It is slightly annoying that it rattles when the phone vibrates though.

Anyone knows where to get a replacement? I think it's what it's called. It's the small plastic cap on top of the phone over the cable socket. Lost mine at some point...
There is probably no replacement for this. Either live with it or replace the whole housing.

I'd be very happy if that thing fell off. Makes it impossible to plug charger in in the dark or with one hand!

You mean they last more that two days then It is so much easier to connect the cable without it - shame there isn't a thing to fill the holes it leaves behind though (aside from the USB one that is).
Go to a site called "netimes.com" and type "micro usb" into there search box .I.ve ordered a pair already, will let you know what they're like when they arrive.

Yup, true genius engineering design went into that usb connector. (Same guy tested the in-call volume in a sound proof room).
What?!?! Put the connector at the bottom and be like everyone else?? No X10 owner would want to put the device into a docking stand. That would just be foolish.
My previous phone, an HTC Cruise, has the connection at the bottom with no cover. In more than a year of being in my shirt pocket on a daily basis the mini-usb never got any dust in it. At least not enough to ever prevent a good usb connection.
Has anyone replaced the charging port on their rezound? Where did you get the part, and was it a simple takedown and disconnect or was there soldering involved?

It is most likely soldered to the board, which is the easy part. The hard part will be finding the MHL connector to replace it with. A quick google search turns up adapters and etc which you don't need.
I would contact http://www.mhlconsortium.org and see what they say.
The connector is a smt (surface mount) part that will require desoldering of the old part and resoldering of the new part. You will also want to be very careful to not damage the pads on the circuit board when doing this type of rework. These pads can be easily damaged if you don't know what you are doing. Without knowing the exact part number, it is had to say where to buy this part but places like http://www.digikey.com/?curr=USD sell components like this.
Thanks for the replies, I was considering picking up a pair of rezounds one with a bad screen and one with a bad charging port for cheap. They're for sale together for just over 120 on craigslist. I was going to swap the charging port but I don't think I'm up for that challenge if it is soldered to the board. Screen swap doesn't sound like a good idea to me either. I've heard too many people screwing up screen replacements with new parts let alone something used.
Guess I won't be joining your community at least not yet...

The screen is easy to replace. Make sure you buy some double stick tape on amazon specially designed for this purpose. I think it is 2mm wide. It's like 5 bucks and will do maybe 10 or more phones.

I would be counting on using the screen from the other phone, and from what I have seen the removal of a good screen ends up ruining it.

Seriously, are you looking for a Rezound with a bad USB? Mine charges, but hasn't been able to connect to PC since about a week after I got S-OFF. I have been looking for clean used ones so I can recover mountability.
Sent into the innertubes from my Arnova 10 G2.
I imagine that the USB port wouldn't be easy to replace, I remember trying to JTAG my Xbox360 where I had to solder 24 gauge wire to the board and it was a massive pain in the ass. The Rezound is way smaller do I'd imagine it'd be that much harder.

They make solder in a paste form that melts with a heat gun. That is what you need for small amt stuff. It makes it easy.
Get a soldering iron with the smallest tip you can find. Make sure it goes past 600 degrees F or it will not melt with just the tip.
I replace charger ports on the Nintendo DSi all day and its fairly easy. But if you don't melt the solder, and you pull too much, you could rip the pads off the board. (Which I have done many times) If you have access to a heat gun, then that is better. Use the heat gun to remove the port, but use a soldering iron to put the new one on.
All these surface mount things are placed on the board by robots and then ride through an oven, never to be touched by human hands.
The pins are quite small (Holy thread revival!)
Can someone check their HTC One and see if the power cable connector fit all the way in the phone? Mine seems to have a good 5 millimeter left exposing the metal part of the head of the micro USB connector. I got my silver HTC at Costco today. Couldn't wait for the black one to come in. I went through 2 phones at Costco before decided to go with one with the least imperfection. It seems to me that they all got small gap at the top left corner where the power button is. Seems like someone forgot to put super glue there. The Costco guy got a bit upset when I went through 2 phones before biting the bullet and took one home. I'm not really digging the white plastic band around the phone. I think it will become yellow in the long run. I'm gonna keep this a few days and hopefully exchange it for the black one. Kinda feel a bit let down that the gap is so irritating. No dead pixel on the phone. Thank God for that!

You seem to worry a lot about a gap that's nothing. Is your usb cable end long or is the phone hole short or blocked by something ?
My usb cords fits perfectly flush... I have a bunch of them and their all fine.
You should be enjoying your phone not worrying about a tiny gap that is harmless
thats my 2c
I have that charger gap ... I have dead pixels... The screen isn't flush... There's a gap on the top... The edges are uneven....

I sent mine to Texas after receiving RMA#. I've been waiting over 3 weeks to have it fixed. Tried to buy the cap but could not find it anywhere. I have only found port cover for Xperia phone Z but wasn't sure if they match those on the tablet. Anyway it is fixed now and recently I bought a cradle and it works great. I think it is a must to avoid damaging those covers. Pricey but I think it looks good, functions properly and it is great for watching movies, playing games and typing.
Bottom line send the tablet back to Sony and in the same time get a cradle and you will not have any issues with the tablet's waterproof tabs.

Thanks. I am sure the cradle is the best solution but not very practical when traveling and charging on the road on trains or air plains.
the cap must have a design flow if it breaks only after a couple of weeks.
Agreed. It was not the greatest engineering marvel. Cradle is in fact very thin and it fits the tablet very snug so I don't see any problem of taking it with me when I go. The threaded plug port with an o-ring would have been much better solution than that cheesy tab. But then again not many people would have bought a cradle. It is a good product but like most electronics it has its flows. My advice try not to open those tabs too often or better avoid opening them altogether. They will last forever. Bluetooth headphones, cradle, WiFi can easily facilitate it.

I would prefer that Sony replaced these, but they told me that when the tiny piece of plastic bends and breaks that it's considered physical damage. I find that odd that a main selling point is its resistance to damage but the part that protects from damage breaks off with normal use. I had to settle for replacement covers I found on ebay.

I had this situation that the cap got bend because I forgot to put it back after closing the tablet cover over it. I was able to bend it a bit the other side and also notice the little pin needed to be straighten so that it will fit back in place. This is when I notice the hole next to the usb to be used when the cap is open you insert the cap pin in it.

I don't know if that could work as a replacement part: something that looks like the current part, but with an extra rubber plug that would fit inside the mini usb port to hold it in place...
Seems like I now have a reason to get a 3D printer :S
**EDIT***
I remembered something I saw a few years back, is called Sugru, a moldable rubber that cures and can be used for almost anything. Search them out on Google.

well the problem with removing the back is that it is not waterproof any more when you put it back on
here is a link from where i got mine : battery-cover.de/product_info.php?info=p102_abdeckung-usb-anschluss-tablet-z-weiss-black.html
Btw are you talking a bout a video of replacing the cap or a video about dissabling the tablet ?
From what I've seen the tab cover has a "nipple" which can be squeezed and pushed through the hole (from the inside of the tablet). I don't think it is easily or even possible to do it from the outside. Besides I think the back panel acts like a gasket and seals the inside so I don't understand why would the tablet lose its waterproof capability. Do you have any bad experience?? Besides I don't see why could not you smear very fine silicon layer around the mating parts and make it 100% waterproof! Disassembly is here: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zczfTnBFqtA
Good luck and let us know how did you make out.

It is a pure rip off. Piece of plastic and rubber priced like silver! Even more reasons now to buy the cradle. Too bad you can't use it for USB transfer. It is a big design flaw and I have no idea why did Sony make such cheap and lousy part!

Return the phone at once to where you made your purchase. Insist on either a new phone or a full refund. No brainer.

I'm sorry, bad English.
Several cases occurred in the same issue, even in our country.
But the problem is the fault of the customer, according to Sony service center.
Many people are angry, but they do not change attitudes.
Sony's quality control is questionable, but they do not recognize it either.
I hope you look forward to a good result. Please let us know results later!
I tohught i'd found someone that had the charging port always crooked problem this is much different.
that is something to look out for.
Worried now as i use the magnetic port exclusively.
This just happened to me today. I removed my phone from the dock this morning and the port was detached from the phone and was stuck on the dock its already my second phone as the first one had digitizer lines, gaps etc.
I'm on my third device now. Just happened to me on monday but I was using a third party charging cable.
it looks like the port is just glued in with the contacts being pushed into the phone. I would have thought they would have made it with a lip so it could not be pulled out!? or is that to much like common sense lol.
This is hilarious, I can't believe this have happened to the charging port, it looks very sturdy.
i was planning to buy this (it has really good reviews, 5 stars on all the reviews,.... although its only like 9 people that reviewed it)
http://www.amazon.com/Magnector-Per...402475479&sr=8-4&keywords=z2+magnetic+charger
it says that it has twice the Magnetic Power than original Sony Xperia Charging Cable.... that sounds good because i heard the original one is kinda weak and disconnects easy,.... but in the other hand it increases the possibility of making the magnetic port loose,.....
has anyone tried this product yet????

Common sense does not exist in the corporate world. They are mutually exclusive (save for some extenuating circumstances).
So how does this affect waterproofing, is the phone stilled even if the port isn't in?
If it is then I wouldn't mind having to put dab of glue and shove it back in if mine ever came out.
If it's not then it might have been a leakage point for some of the people that ended up with moisture inside after phone is submerged.
I guess I'm going to have look for those tear down photos & see if it shows details of the frame/magnetic port.
Sent from my D6503 using Xparent Red Tapatalk 2
Well this is awkward. My port just came loose after using Sony original magnetic charger. Darn that's annoying, guess I have to return it. Should I relock the Bootloader? It doesn't have anything to do with software..

I just sent it for repair, not sure if they can fix it or I get a new phone. Hopefully it's not "my fault". I will update when I hear from them.
Please update me, mine did not come out but at the opposite it looks like it's being pushed in, there is a tiny gap showing on the left side as if it's going to fall inside the phone from one side.
